Just got a new Probook 4540s and cannot get the on/off function of the touchpad to work. There is a small dot in the upper left corner of tochpad. User guide says to double tap it to turn on and off touchpad. Doesn't work. I then went to driver download and got the latest synaptics drivers. Still doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

FIgured it out. I had disabled the "touch to click" function. After I enabled it the touchpad on/off button worked as it should.Read other 2 answers

I understand that your touchpad will freeze.
Do a hard reset.
Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
This should reset the hardware in the computer.
As you power it back on tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.
Run the startup test.
This will test all the hardware in the system and detect any problems.
If the entire test passes, turn off the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.
When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.

I am unable to use my laptop's touchpad and keyboard. Even my mouse is operational only when the windows is loaded. Meaning, during the booting time when i wish to change the booting option, at that time i am unable to use even my mouse. Which otherwise is the only outside device used via usb port. Attempted to up-date to Windows 10. Couldn't do it. Microsoft (MS) Tech tried to do it and couldn't do it. It seems there are some security tools that must be removed as they are incompatable with Windows 10. MS tried to remove and couldn't do it. He said they were on the mother board and when he tried to remove them they just kept coming back so once again he couldn't do it. He said contact HP and they could do it. Unable to find anybody at HP that can do it. As you can see nobody can do it so I guess it just cannot be done. That is unless some fine person out there has discovered a way to do it. Hello,I am having an issue with my Probook 450 g3 running windows 10 pro x64 anniversary update v1607.Most of the time, the audio doesn't work. When its not working, it says that there is no playback device found in control panel --> sounds.I have updated the machine with the latest drivers and bios and it still does not work.However, if I uninstall the synaptics touchpad drivers and reboot, the speakers work fine. Unfortuantely, windows will automatically install a driver for the touchpad and it wants me to restart. The next time I restart, the speakers break again. I have disabled the setting to automatically install drivers in advanced system settings, and it still installs the drivers. I found that my Probook 4540s sometimes cannot boot. I have to use the trick applied to 4530s: remove battery, press power button for 40s, put the adapter. Sometimes the trick works, sometimes it doesn't. Is this a bios issue? Any solution for this?
Well did you try reseating the memory? Has the computer worked since you have upgraded the memory? Also are the memory chips the same speed? If your running two different speed chips it could cause this issue. ThanksSeanRead other 10 answers

Hello! My ProBook 4540s was working fine until a half hour ago, when I unplugged it to move it and then attempted to plug it back in, and it stopped charging. When plugging in the power cord (that came with the ProBook when I bought it around 18 months ago), the light above the power jack (and no other lights) flashes white 9 times. I've tried following this fix I found on Google: 1. Turn off the notebook2. remove the battery3. remove the charging adapter4. press + hold the power button for 40 seconds5. insert the charging adaptor only6. press the power button and it supposedly continues but I get stuck at this point, because even plugged in, my ProBook won't start up without the battery in also. Is this a know problem/is there a fix for this?

I have a new ProBook 4540s notebook that I shut down over the weekend. I am not sure if I put it into hibernate, sleep, or what as I am still getting use to it. When I tried to turn it on (not plugged in) I got nothing. So I plugged in the power cord and hit the power button again. All it did was the LED above the cord plug blinked about 8 times and nothing else. I let it "charge" overnight and tried again in the morning. Nothing but a blinking LED. I Googled the problem and it said to take the battery out, unplug, and hold the power button down for 20 seconds. I plugged it back in but left the battery out, and still the same thing - flashing LED. HELP! Thanks.

HiI tried to update to W10 and failed with OXC 1900200 which suggests a compatibility issue. It is unclear on the HP website if this model supports W10 - HP has not tested your PC model for upgrade to Windows 10.If your Windows 7 or 8 PC was manufactured before August 2013 or is running Windows XP or Windows Vista, HP cannot confirm it can be upgraded to Windows 10. We have a Probook 4540S laptop runnung Windows 7 64-bit. We encrypted the machine using the HP encryption software that came with the laptop. After less than a week of use the use is getting the error "Windows Boot Manager - Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause".I see the onscreen instructions to insert the Windows installation disk and run a repair. My laptop is running Windows 10 64-bit.
For the past few weeks my laptop has been turning off unexpectedly.
I've tried with battery only. With battery and power cable and with battery removed and only power cable.
I am using the machine normally and then screen just goes black and power offs - no restart, no hibernation, no shut down. Just instantaneously off.
It's not overheating. Could it be a fan issue?
I don't know - but it's getting quite irritating as I often have many apps open and many files open on each app and takes me 30 mins to get back to where I left off.

When I push the power button to my HP ProBook 4540s, it does not boot, but a few seconds later the fan turns on and the screen remains black. If there were any error messages, I can't see them. The only way to shut it back down is to press and hold the power button. Then I try to boot it agian. The computer will boot normally about 1 out of 35 or 40 attempts. Briefly removing the battery and placing it back does not help. I haven't made any changes to the computer. It is about 10 months old. Any ideas???

So I have had my laptop for little over a year now and before yesterday it was working fine . However yesterday I tried turning it on and now it doesn't even start. Intel chipset drivers are not available for Windows 8 or 8.1 on hp.com (Intel ME drivers are available in their place, some kind of inside joke, I guess). Given HP's recent corporate reorganization, hp.com may never be updated. I think only an HP insider could answer these questions: 1) Did HP modify the Intel chipset drivers as OEMs often do or could I use ones from Intel? 2) Is there any difference between Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 chipset drivers?Read other answers

I installed the base graphics drivers for my Intel HD 4000, but Catalyst Control Center will crash my system. This is a switchable graphics system. Am I missing something here? I bought my laptop about two weeks ago. Then first, I installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I installed "HP Protect Tools" & could enroll all 20 fingers at once without any issue. Then recently, reinstalled the whole system with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Then, installed Protect tools & could enroll my two thumbs. But I couldn't enroll any other finger. For each other finger, first two confirmtions work properly. But at third, it always fails. I cannot think that this is an issue related to how I sweep the fingers. Because, then how do every first two confirmations get passed?. Hope anyone will help me to sort this out.
