Single click generates 2 mouse clicks

Q: Single click generates 2 mouse clicks

This is very strange situation. When asking for a new pasword as a registered user on a website like www.phpmydriectory.com from a Vista computer and then clicking on the confirmation link in the email sent by the website, generates 2 mouseclicks, so that the mail with the new password is sent twice. This only happens on Vista systems. All other OSs work fine, so it is not a bug in the script.
Any idea what the reason might be? And how to solve it?

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Single click generates 2 mouse clicks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Frlill, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might have your double-click speed set to fast in the Mouse settings in the Control Panel (Classic View). Check there (in Activities tab for me in Mouse settings) and slow it down a bit and test to see if that helps any.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hey all, I got this rather annoying problem lately. As title says, my mouse seems to double click when I just clicked once. You can notice that in browsers, when I click on an address in the suggestions, but the click "goes through" and clicks on a bookmark behind the drop down menu which vanished after first click.

Same goes for youtube, when I just want to pause a video, and single click, the video goes to fullscreen which happens only when you double click. Starts to be really annoying.

Same issue can be noticed in few other circumstances as well.. thou now that I think about it, I think it only occurs browser related.

I am using Mionix saiph 1800 mouse.

A:Mouse double clicks when i single click

Could be the switch in the mouse is causing that. I just got rid of a Microsoft mouse for that exact problem.

Go into the Mouse configuration panel in the Control Panel and change the LEFT mouse click to the RIGHT click. Then try it with the right mouse button and see if you still get double clicks. If you don't that would confirm that the mouse is the problem.

For a long time now I've been experiencing issues with my old mouse. My old mouse either double-clicked on a single click, or didn't click at all. I assumed the mouse was failing and got a new one. The new mouse is working fine 99% of the time, but every now and then it will randomly double-click on a single click. The mouse can't be failing as it's brand new. I suspect that when it double-clicks that it is registering the downward click as a click and the upward release as a click as well. What I fail to understand is why this only occurs rarely. For the past week I've been attempting to notice when it does double-click and see that it doesn't matter what application I'm using and that I am not double-clicking by mistake.

A:Mouse double-clicks on single click

In most instances, especially when it's that rare of an occurance, it's operator error.

Having said that, you can adjust the double click speed in the mouse settings (Control Panel / Mouse / buttons tab).

Hi Guys,
I am posting this under software because my mouse behaves normally on my laptop, however on my desktop it behaves a bit different. Hi, I'm having a very strange issue with my Lenovo G500 laptop that started with my touchpad mouse erratically clicking more than once on a single click. It started as a minor annoyance and escalated to the point where the touchpad mouse no longer works at all. To get around this problem, I now use an external mouse. This worked fine for a while but I am now starting to notice the same issue with it as well.

It does not seem to be a virus or malware or a failed hard drive as I just replaced my HD with a brand new SSD & fresh copy of Windows and I am still having this issue. Any ideas?

I called support team and my laptop is under the warranty even as per the online warranty check tool of HP. But the supprot team is saying your warranty has been ended and they also told me to upgrade the BIOS which I had done already even after that I am facing the same issue. Could anyone please tell me what should I do to solve this problem?

I am finding that oftentimes, though not always, when I am on a webpage that provides a link to another webpage, and I single click the link, the link gets framed but the butterfly refuses to fly unless I click once again and I don't get to the link unless I click once again. In the past, and often in the present, a single click would do the job. I had this problem with my old mouse, which uses a ball, and also with my new one, which is optical. Any thoughts? Thanks, grandpaw

What I mean is that let's say I am trying to hold and drag a desktop file it will sometimes just click, making me drop the file on the spot. It will also double click when I try to make a single click. I tried to lower the settings for double click timing on the settings menu.

EDIT: Tried out another mouse, it doesn't click out of nowhere but is there a way to fix my old mouse? I can switch the buttons so right click acts as left click so it seems that specific button got practically destroyed

A:Mouse double clicks when I click once and click when I hold it.

Do you mean the other mouse works fine? As far as I know there's no way to fix a mouse other than making sure the trackball or optical lens is clean, whichever your has.

A repair would cost more than a new mouse I suspect. You can get an ordinary one for about $5 or so.

I'm running Win 7 Pro x64 and IE11.

My mouse click appears to be highly sensitive and does multiple clicks when I only click once. For example, if I open the calculator and click on the various number buttons, I will get double or triple numbers.

I've done a complete clean-up and I've removed flash player, but the problem still persists.

Is this a common issue and is there a solution?

This has generally been happening once a month. When I go to single click an item, the mouse (sometimes) double clicks and opens said item. I don't think this is due to a virus, as I have scanned the computer with avg free. Do I simply need a new mouse? Or is it possibly something more? The mouse is a laser mouse, micro innovations. I'm not sure how good the quality is, but it was pretty inexpensive. Last month when this happened it was a bit more severe, when I clicked on an item, several around it were highlighted and the taskmanager wouldn't even open.

If you can help at all I appreciate it, thank you in advance!

Recently (in the last month) my computer has started giving me a double click on a single click of the left button.  This is very irritating.
It does this with both, a USB Logitech Track Man Wheel and with a wireless HID mouse.
I have tried adjusting the settings for the mouse but that doesn't seem to have any effect.
I have AVAST antivirus.  I have run Microsoft Security Essentials, Malewarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot search and destroy, Super Anti-Spyware and Junkware Removal Tool.
I have updated all of my drivers and used Drive Booster 3.
When I click to close a window on Firefox it will double click and minimize the browser.
This problem is active in all of my programs that I run, not just the browser.
I have Windows Vista, 64 Bit on a Dell Inspiron laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions.
I think this has to be a software problem, but I don't know how to correct it or which software is involved..
Thank you

Just a goofy phenomena that seems to be puzzling me. Each time I single click on a desktop icon, it acts like it was double clicked and opens the file/program. When single clicking on a scroll-bar to the right of a window, it acts like it was double clicked, traveling much further down the screen than expected.

I'm using Windows ME. My mouse is an IBM Scrollpoint II, 3-button mouse with a small scroll pivot-lever. Any assistance to solve this problem will be appreciated. Thanks.

Try updating your $120 mouse to latest driver from manufacturer website. It might resolve the issue.

Also check mouse settings in control panel > hardware > mouse or in mouse software if you have installed it.

Has anyone else had the problem of single clicking an object to focus on it but having it execute instead?

Example: I select a music (MP3) to Edit - rather than focus on the MP3 Explorer launchs the file and begins to play.

Possible (though illogical solution) - the speed of the mouse being set to higher movement seems to stop the behavior. ie: slower movement rates of the mouse present the problem.

Just wanted to know if anyone else has seen this behavior.

A:Mouse single click too sensitive...

Hello Rkseagle,

When using single-click, you would just want to let the mouse pointer hover over the file to select it instead of clicking on it. If you are using a touchpad instead of a mouse, then you may need to adjust the tap sensitivity to help prevent tapping when you are just moving.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi,
Out of the blue for some reason I am having a strange issue, every time I click fold/files/icon it automatically highlights the text to rename.
I have also noticed that this is not an desktop issue, when playing a game the menus will start flickering as if I am constantly clicking on them at high super high speed.
I have removed drivers, reinstalled drivers, checked the settings. I also booted into linux to make sure it was not a hardware issue, its fine.

BTW I just realised that this issue does not happen on the windows/program files of system folders.

The last thing I was doing before noticing the issue was using steam and watching youtube video, I noticed that there was some flicking on the youtube video.

What else is there?

Doesn't happen all the time, but has increased in how often it takes place.

Today, I go to Desktop background. I try to click once on a picture file, and then use the arrow keys to scroll down the files. This worked fine last week. It now acts as if I turned on single click. I haven't.

I checked double click speed, and I have moved it waaaay down towards slow. Probably less than 10 percent of the way from 'Slow'. It was up at 75 percent towards Fast.

It really doesn't seem to make much difference.

or

Go to device manager, check drivers for mouse. Make sure it is the most current (from company website, not automatic update). Look for yellow warning markers.

I have a wired 5-button Microsoft optical Intellimouse, about 5 yrs old. Lately it's double-clicking when I single-click, which obviously is quite annoying. It's not the software mouse clicking speed, that doesn't solve it. I switched to an old mouse temporarily and the problem didn't occur, so it's definitely the hardware. Driver is up-to-date.

So, this mouse is kaput, right? There's nothing I could do to fix this? Thanks.

A:Mouse Double-clicking on Single-click

Well, this is impressive. I googled the problem and found it's a common one with the intellimouse and there's a little free utility out there called, appropriately enough, "MouseFix", which I dl'ed and ran. It appears to have solved the problem. Cool. Saved me having to buy a new mouse.

I'm new to the forums and I have this recent problem with my mouse. It double-clicks sometimes and it disconnects once in a while even when the USB is already inserted. Now I have a new mouse but it still does the same problems. I checked my browser, Sony Vegas, every program I had. This is getting annoying. My old mouse also used to click every once in a while when I wasn't even clicking. I think the problem is due to dust and microbes inside the mouse. This is super urgent because now the mouse doesn't click whenever I do a click and the wheel scrolls instantly whenever I do a click

A:Mouse double-clicking on single click and disconnecting even with USB

Hmm, if your new mouse is showing the same symptoms then it is not the problem. However, check your mice (both old and new) on another PC to make sure they are not faulty.

Load defaults in BIOS.
Perform a clean startup - Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

To eliminate PC hardware fault, download and make bootable DVD/USB for Linux Mint MATE and boot with it (no need to install), see if both mice will work alright.

Almost from day one, using an external mouse with my W540 laptop has been a real struggle.  While the trackpad works okay, the mouse's behavior is erratic.  Sometimes a single, left-click doesn't register and other times a single left-click fires twice, effectively double clicking. This happens in any application. I've read several other posts here about very similar issues... https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/Mouse-Click-Issue/m-p/1552048/highlight/... https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T430-left-mouse-button-occasional-multi-... https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Erratic-mouse-behavior/m-p/3413734/high... https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/tp07_en/thread-id/38692/highlight/t... ...but none of the suggestions have worked for me. - I have tried swapping the left and right buttons but it still double-fired w/ the right button now.- I have tried 3 different mice: Apple magic mouse (bluetooth), Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500, and a Logitech performance laser mouse, and all 3 experience the same issue with the W540, but work fine on other computers in the house.- I've tried updated drivers for each of the mice as well as the synaptics touchpad.- This behavior occurs regardless of which user profile is logged on.- I have tried disabling the touchpad and uninstalling the driver. Does anyone know how to fix this issue or a... I hope someone can help me, as I have been searching for a solution on the web, and getting absolutely nowhere.

I have one computer, out of about 15 which run Excel 2003, that exhibits the following problem:

Single-click the left mouse button to select one cell, and suddenly, whenever you move the mouse (despite not holding down the button), the cells get selected in whatever direction the mouse moves. You can't escape out of it. Right-clicking has no effect. Keyboard commands have no effect. The only way to stop it is to close Excel by right-clicking on the taskbar.

This version of Excel WAS working fine, and, as far as I know, nothing has changed. It does the mass selecting with any Excel document, but only in Excel. The mass selecting only starts as soon as you left-click to select a cell.

I have tried changing options in Excel, wondering if something got ticked accidentally, but I can't find anything that would start this behaviour, especially when it won't let you get out of it.

If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful.

Thanks very much.

Since the day before yesterday, I have been having a problem where my mouse double-clicks when I single-click. This happens sometimes when I open a program (I ended up opening a Firefox window with a session restore that I wanted as well as a second blank window. I didn't minimize the session restore one, so when I clicked the X on the blank window it closed both and I lost the session restore links since it closed both windows). When I right click to open a link in another tab, it sometimes opens the site in two tabs. When I click on the google window or the address window, all of the text is highlighted for replacement as if I clicked on the text twice.

I've only noticed this in XP, although I have only done a little work in Word over the last couple days.

I've looked in google and found a couple links that say it is a hardware related program (the mouse is a Logitech MX110 and I can't find it listed at their site for a driver). That is possible, but it has been very sudden AND it seemed to start after XP's latest auto-update (I really should update my OS to one of the professional ones because I've been complaining for years about XP Home's auto-update and reboot).

Is it possible that the latest XP update could have done something to the mouse driver? I should add that I think I'm still using the old Intelipoint driver with the Logitech mouse because I heard that the Logitech drivers were buggy.

Should I try updating the Intellip... Read more

A:mouse double-clicking when I single-click (left and right clicking)

It is likely a problem with the mouse itself. I have experienced the same issue and there are numerous reports of this problem ... and I include a link to one of them for your interest and amusement:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic360903.html

The problematic behaviour may come and go: In my own case, my problematic Logitech mouse has been behaving itself recently. I have not been able to find any reason for the variation in its behaviour from time to time. When it plays up, I simply resort to using another mouse for awhile.

Correct. "Folder Options" refers to Windows Explorer. The "folders" within a program, like WLM, are under the control of the program. However I noticed that my version of WLM (2009) behaves the way you want without the "Reading" pane turned on. If I turn it on then a single click shows the email in the reading pane. If I turn it off, it takes a double click to open the email to view it. The reading pane is controlled via the "Layout" Viewing option.

If it happens everytime, there is a setting in windows, but if it's only sometimes, it might be time for a new mouse.

Hello,

I came up to a problem that I cannot solve. Using the Explorer (not IE but the plain explorer to organize folders and files) I cannot change the behaviour of an Active Desktop like in WinXP or others.

I am very used to this procedure: single click = mark an object / doubleclick = execute an object.

Unfortunately, the Explorer just uses the option single click = execute. I remembered the option in XP/Vista, that you can go to Extras -> folder options -> Select Elements and tick a radio button for the Active Desktop method or the classic method (execute via doubleclick). Just as described in the tutorial "Single-Click or Double-Click to Open an Item" within this forum.

I tried this, and now I'm getting nuts: The radio button is already put on the classic mode (execute by doubleclick, select by single click). The other option is grey, i.e. it cannot be selected.

I guess, there's some tick wrong in the registry or else, but I cannot find out which. Does anyone has an idea what can be done?

A:folder options / single-click or double-click

The checkbox/radio button option is under the View tab in the same dialog.

The same touchpad that selects links without being clicked on, also randomly requires a double click or a single click, or a light touch anywhere on the screen, or a serious hard tap on the left corner.   It is not consistant.  Can it be adjusted or disabled?

I've got Windows XP Professional with SP3. About 3 weeks ago my computer started taking a single mouse click as a double click. I've gone into control panel/folder options and made sure it is set up correctly there ("double click to open item")

Any of suggestions??

I've got McAffee virus protection and it is up to date. I ran a full scan and nothing was detected. For Grins and Giggles I did a "CHKDSK /R" but this did not help either.

Thanks,

I need a way to record a series of clicks on the computer and combined them into 1 click. Is this possible?

What I'm trying to do is control my wireless Wi-Fi from my modem to temporary maximum my Ethernet connection speed. I live in a rural area and have extremely slow internet and have several laptops, ipad, wii, smart tv all sucking up my bandwidth and at times I have to shut down the Wi-Fi so the main Desktop computer - Ethernet connected - can operate at a bearable speed.

DSL Modem is controlled on the Main Desktop (Ethernet) running Windows 8.1

Currently I have to do these steps
1. Click on DSL modem icon (shortcut I created on desktop)
2. Choose Wi-Fi "disable" or "enable" (inside modem setup page)
3. Click "OK" on the warning message (saying Wi-Fi service will be interrupted)
4. Click on "Save" (to save the change)
5. Click on "x" to exit the screen
Thanks,

A:Combind several clicks on the computer into 1 click? HOW..

Probably, you'll have to smoke out VBS folks and/or Windows PowerShell folks -- they can probably help you construct the script you need. Although I am a former power-BATchfile user, I doubt any batchfile will do what you want.

Whenever I use my touchpad and left click, it sometimes right clicks. To temporarily remedy this, I would just right click to make it stop. I already resetted my laptop to its factory settings because of it. Before I factory resetted it, it would constantly happen all the time and also the scrolling would not work and it would select stuff on the desktop screen by itself. However, it is still happening. I did all the lenovo driver updates that Thinkvantage System update tells me to do. It is happening less frequently after I resetted it to factory settings but it is still annoying. This problem somehow occurs much less frequently if I use an external mouse.

This was a problem i had forever ago but i found what i needed to fix it at the time. After a small windows 10 update the problem came back and i have been unable to find the solution to fix it again. So the problem is every so often if i click something it will click 3 times. So if i opened a folder once it would open 3 times. Along with that if im scrolling with two fingers, sometimes the curser will move like i only used one finger. It was fine and not doing any of this before the update. Ive done many things to fix this but not has worked. I remember the solution to this was going some where to edit a file or something but i no longer remember what that file was or where it was.

From your question it is understood that, after installing windows 10 updates, your laptop touchpad is not working as normal and it works erratically. To help you troubleshoot the issue, please follow the instructions mentioned below:- Open touchpad control panel, click on Start button.- Type ?Mouse? in the search field, and then select the Mouse control panel program from the search results.- On the ?Device Settings? tab of the Mouse Properties panel, select the ?Synaptic TouchPad? device and click the ?Settings? button. - Now select ?Tapping? option from the mouse property panel to adjust single- and double-tapping.- Expand the Tapping category heading.- Select ?Tap Zones? option and the change the actions associated with it. Tap Zones allow you to configure each corner of the Touchpad to function as separate button, when a specific corner is tapped; the action associated with it is implemented.- Click OK.- Now select ?Pointing and Sensitivity? option from the mouse property panel to adjust ?Touch Sensitivity?- If the cursor moves erratically when you barely touch the surface of the TouchPad, move the slider toward the ?Heavy Touch? position, click Apply , and test the sensitivity again.Hope this will help you.
