I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The key you need to backup, and then delete, is the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio Once you browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio right click on the VisualStudio key and select Export, select a name for the backup and a safe location to save the backup, and then select OK. You can also try the fix tool linked in the information below from this Microsoft KB article Refer the link below and run the fixit tool available, check if you can uninstall all the versions of Microsoft Visual C++ from the computer and later reinstall the latest version of Microsoft Visual C++ on the computer. Why aren't these redistributable packages distributed with Microsoft Windows as default and why are they not backwards compatible? There are even separate x86 and x64 builds for it. This is creating a mess of approximately 20 separate installations in
the installed apps section of Windows. Also this is creating a potential problem if some of the developers do not include the vcredist installer with their software thus getting an error of msvcr...dll not found or even worse less explanatory error.

This will allow you to run certain programs that use C++ components.

It is needed if you intend to run said programs. It is NOT insecure if you download it from the microsoft website.

Hi,
Today i tried to install Nero 10 which requires the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) which i do not have on my computer. When ever I try to install the package i get this weird error.

"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD_ROM or other removable disk that us bit available.
Insert the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable disk and click OK"

This is weird because i do not have any CD with this software and i downloaded this package from Microsoft website.

I just purchased a new laptop (Lenovo G70) with Windows 10 operating system. I am having a problem installing an video editing software that I also just purchased: Cyberlink's Power Director 14. When I attempt to install this software, I get the following

"This process cannot continue because the Microsoft visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package SP1 (x64) install was unsuccessful...The installation will now abort."

I once had this before when I tried to download Age of Empires Online. I decided one game isn't worth the problem, and I'd avoid all "Games for Windows" games because of this issue. Now, I recently bought a Vita and now I can't download Content Manager Assistant because of this, so now it is becoming a problem.

I really don't want to reinstall Windows, but if there is seriously no other way, I guess I will. This is becoming ridiculous.

I've tried downloading .Net framework and the x64 version, but nothing worked. Do I need to use a registry cleaner (if so, which one, and how can I use one without possibly screwing up my computer worse)? What do I need to do to fix this?

Hi, I am not sure about this....

I run Secunia - the software updater/ checker and it tells me that this is outdated and needs a patch for "security reasons"

microsoft visual C++ 2005 redistributable package (x86)

Does anyone know what this is and do I really need to update it?

Obviously I can make a system image before installing in case anything goes wrong but I was just more curious to know what this is.

Thanks!!

PS I am 32 bit!!

A:Update Needed: Microsoft visual C++ 2005 redistributable package

Microsoft Visual C++ is normally installed along side an application. They install runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries which are required to run applications developed with Visual C++ on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2005 installed.

Theres a good chance that a piece of software on your system requires the C++ libraries to run, it is safe to leave the application on there, you might have issues with a specific program if you remove it.

If you can verify the update is coming from Microsoft, there should be no problem downloading an update for it.

Hello,

I tried to install the trial version of Sony Vegas Pro 9, which installs Microsoft Visual C++ 2008. The C++ external installer crashed and the Vegas installer failed. I got the standalone installer package from microsoft's website, but it does the same thing. Hallo,

excuse me for my mistakes bu I am not a native English speaker.

I run a Windows 7 Pro sp1 x64 and I use NTBackup.exe to perform my weekly full backup (I know that NTBackup is not meant to be run on Windows 7, but it perfectly fits my needs and it perfectly run until last windows update).

Since last windows update of 10/02/2015, NTbackup fails and in the NTBackup log I find this message: "Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:Catastrophic failure".
Looking into Windows Event Log/Applications I find 3x error messages related to in VSS, where the only really significant one is "Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine CoCreateInstance.  hr = 0x80004002. 42554543584D4C43333533320000000042554543584D4C433334393400000000".

I spent the last three hours reading about potential NTBackup issues and I think I can exclude those related to VSS itself because:
- the "Volume Shadow Copy" and the "Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider" services perfecly start, stop and restart
- I can browse previous versions of files being saved (e.g. because of system restore points)
- the "vssadmin list writers" reports all writers being stable and with no errors
I therefore wanted to try and uninstall the KB3032622 but was unable to, since it is not listed in those than can be uninstalled.
Here my questions:
1- Is anybody experiencing my issue?
2- Has anybody been able to solve it? ... Read more

A:Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 Redistributable Package (KB3032622) breaking NTBackup

the only other thoughts I have;
- it could be broken, because it was never intended to function, and it has only worked ok until now as a happy accident
- it's extremely unlikely that MSFT would have ever tested for the use of WinXp NTBackup on Win7, so unlikely to get formal support for the scenario
- there may be others with related experience, you may find in the dedicated storage/backup forums like

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=winserverfiles or

Hi,

For the product we develop, which is now compiled using MSVC 2015, we need to provide a way in our installer to automate the process of installing the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015.
Now I've seen that prior to 2015, I could either find what is called a Redistributable XY or a Redistributable Package XY.
It's not clear to me what the difference is between the two. Could you please explain to me what are the pros and cons between the two?

Also, is there a plan to provide a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package 2015? Or is the "Reditributable Package" thingy over now?

Thanks.

I can't install Visual C++ 2010. Or 2008. Or any Visual C++ as far as I can tell.
I am literally tearing my hair out. I can't play a ton of games that require this and now is a really bad time for me. I have tried almost everything the internet can come up with, and I thought I'd post it here, though it's very likely that like last time, I won't get a single reply.

In any case, I've tried:
Running the installer as administrator
Running it in safe mode
Running it in a clean boot
Uninstalling all VC++ files and reinstalling them (re installation didn't work)
Uninstalling all .NET frameworks and reinstalling (worked fine)
Installing it using a game installer (Specifically, Mechwarrior online, also failed to install VC++)
I've tried running dozens of variations of MS fixit, to no avail
I've posted on the MS forums and called tech support, which suggested that I would pay around 250$ (**** you Microsoft, thank you very much ) to get it fixed. Screw that.
I've used C-Cleaner to clean the registry (might have caused the issue in the first place)
I've de-fragmented regularly
I've updated all the software and drivers (including Windows)
I've created a separate user account that had admin privileges (didn't work there either, meaning it isn't a corrupt user account)
I don't have any restore points from before the issue (trust me, If I get it fixed, I sure as hell will from now on)

On Steam, there is a game I bought several months ago called Victory at Sea. I played this game for several hours on my laptop and it worked okay. However, when I installed it on my new desktop PC and launched, it gave me this message:

I launched this game directly from the Steam library like any other game I have on Steam and there are no internet connection problems. I looked on the discussions page for this game and I found some posts of players explaining they've had a similar problem just like mine. Fortunately, someone from the game developer team have read these posts and responded with solutions. For some, they fixed their issues. For others including me, they lead to other issues.

I ask because my Win 7 is very slow to fire up, though fine once up and running, and I'm going through the whole repertoire here - checking startups, checking errors in event viewer, updating drivers etc, so far without much sign of improvement.

A:Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable

It is normal to have multiple versions. Windows adds them to the WinSxS folder and the application picks the version it needs

Each has its own runtime libraries. Each is independent and the various programs needing them will call the one needed. These are not the reason for your slowdown. If you haven't seen these already:

I'm a tech guy myself, but I'm really stumped on this one.
My display drivers were demanding updates, so I download the newest driver and let it install. It kept stopping/hanging whenever it got to "Currently Installing: microsoft visual c++ 2012 redistributable".
I go to check out if theres anything wrong, and of course, I can't re-install, repair or uninstall the current 2012 on my computer.
I went and got a program to forceably uninstall it, and that worked, but I still can't install a fresh copy of visual c from either the package that came with the drivers, or the install directly from microsoft.
It just sits there, telling me "Hold on, hold on, were getting started, here it comes" and never going anywhere.
A google search for this issue seems to always be solved by just uninstalling and reinstalling, but I'm never so lucky.

I keep trying to install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2005 on my new computer and it just does not want to finish. I get to about 70% through the configuration thing and it just stops. And then when I want to try and install again, I have to reboot because it says that there is already an install occurring.

My system specs are :
Windows 7 64bit Professional
AMD Radeon HD 6700 series

What exactly are these programs? I have like 5-6 of them, and was wondering if it is safe to uninstall them.

Like, are there any programs that are dependent upon it?

A:Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable

They are normally installed along side an application. They install runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries which are required to run applications developed with Visual C++ on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2008 installed.

Theres a good chance that a piece of software on your system requires the C++ libraries to run, it is safe to leave the application on there, you might have issues with a specific program if you remove it.

I am unclear how the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable installs are handled.

I have 15+ versions installed, do I need all of those? can I uninstall all the old versions and keep only the most current? How does this all work?

Thank you for any clarification a head of time

Hello everyone,

This problem has been haunting me for awhile and I've finally decided to address it. My Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable has been giving me difficulties mainly when attempting to install programs. I receive an error about V C++ being missing and being prompted to install it via CD, considering I don't have the CD I cannot install it. Upon trying to install it via software downloaded from Microsoft themselves nothing happens, the software prepares for installation then promptly disappears. When I try to uninstall it via Add or Remove Programs I am prompted AGAIN to insert the CD for the software.

Can anyone please help me solve this tediously annoying issue before I go insane?

Thank you to all in advance!

A:Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Difficulties

Which one in particular?

Since you have 64bit Windows, download and install both x86 and x64 service packed versions (if applicable) of:
- 2005
- 2008
- 2010
- 2012
- 2013

VC Redist don't have much of an installation, do they appear in programs and features? should be lots of them when you install all I listed

A:How do I uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable

uh... a lot, and I mean a lot of applications and games need it to run, it's likely it was installed by a game or application you put on your computer.
I would not remove it.

It's likely windows isn't letting you remove it because it knows you have system components that need it.

I am trying to install some software. The installation goes smoothly until the last minute, when the installer tries to install "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable". This also works, but at the last minute it hangs with one second left to go, thus preventing me from installing the software at all. An error then pops up, saying: "Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86"'. I am running on Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit with SP1.

Can someone tell me how to fix this?

I think this will fix it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956699You can either run the fix manually or download the automatic FixIt tool on that page.

I saw the Fix Below, but don't know how to Rename the File?

Looks like the easiest fix to try is to rename C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\S-1-5-18 to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\S-1-5-18_old and re-install. If that doesn't work that link has other possible fixes.

I want to use XAMPP on my machine. But unfortunately, I cannot run Apache without installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable. I tried installing x64 first (since I am using 64bit windows), but after waiting for almost 3 hours, it's stuck on almost 89%. Next I tried installing x86. But it's the same as the x64 installer. Stuck at almost 89%. What should I do?

When I click the cancel button an error log can be shown. Attached to this post is the error log. Thanks!

Hello,
well, first off, check this image:

As you can see, I've blurred out all irrelevant programs. The rest, are all Microsoft-related-programs, and the highlighted are the multiple Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable applications I am talking about.

As you can see, there are two C++ 2005 Redisitributable, which doesn't make much sense. (although the first one weights 2.69MB and the second only 346KB) The last two that are highlighted are both C++ 2008 Redisitributable for x86, however the second is a newer version (do I really need the first version so that the last one can work?).

I ask this because I believe this is a complete waste of space and processing memory. Thank you in advance and if I missed any valuable information, please let me know and I will post it up ASAP.

Hello,

I am trying to install Autodesk Maya, a 3D graphics development program.

The first part of the installation gets hung up when it attempts to install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.

I figured I would install it separately, and I got this error message with every version of the software (x64, x86, x32, etc...):

Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly
"Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.42",publicKeyToken="1fc9b3b9a1e18e3b" ,processorArchitecture="x86" Please refer to Help and Support for more information
I searched for information about the error, and tried many methods.

First I tried the Microsoft Fixit for Windows Update (apparently problems with windows update can cause this error), but that fixit was, ironically, the only one from the list which DID NOT work. It says that the version is outdated and to search for a more current version.

Next I tried a windows repair install from disk, and the repair install got at far as "Copying Windows Files" when it told me that the installation could not be continued. It then told me to restart and check for current updated.

I even tried making a separate admin account, and this, too, failed.
On an added note, I USED to be able to run this software since when I first got my computer, I installed Maya 2010 which uses the same software. I wish I had never uninstalled it.

Does anyone have a clue what to do? Let me ... Read more

The only cause I know of for this is a registry problem, below is the only fix I know of if I diagnosed this correctly.

In Windows, click Start > Run...
In the Run window, type 'regedit'. In the Registry Editor window, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control.
In the 'Registry Editor' dialog box, double-click on 'RegistrySizeLimit'. This opens the 'Edit DWORD Value' dialog box.
In the 'Edit DWORD Value' dialog box, enter ffffffff as the 'Hexadecimal' value. Click on the 'Decimal' radio button, and enter 4294967295 as the 'Decimal' value. Click OK.
Reboot the machine.
Log in as an Administrator and open a Command Prompt and run 'SFC /SCANNOW'.
