ThinkCentre M710t - Change 180W psu for a 210W

Q: ThinkCentre M710t - Change 180W psu for a 210W

Hi!I've just received a M710T (product code 10M9000CIX - i7-7700 + m2 ssd + 8gb ddr4) which comes with a 180W PSU.I'm from Italy so it was difficult to find the US version with 210W PSU, I see that the US version had it http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkCentre/ThinkCentre_M710_Tower I was looking to buy the 210W as an aftermarket part but I cannot find the code / website where I can buy it. The reason why I need this is because I've just buyed an Nvidia GT 1030 low profile which should consume about 25/30W.Reading online I think that my PSU should hold up the load but I would like to power up my PSU for the future. Another thing to consider is that Lenovo ships various M710T with 180W + NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 2GB + 7200rpm HDD.The power consumption of the GT 730 is similar to the 1030 and my machine have an m2 ssd that should consume less than the HDD. So the questions are:- is there anyone with my machine (180w) who is using a dedicated gpu without a problem?- how and where I can find the 210W online (shipping to eu/italy)? Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

As you wrote, systems with the 180w supply are available with the GT 730, which is similar in power to the GT 1030, so the 180w will power it no problem.  The reason this is possible, is that current generation processors use much less power than those from a few years ago, ie. 65w vs. 80 or 95w.

I am confident that there are some models with 210w available in Italy.  You could search the PSREF for system models ending in "IX", same as yours.   I imagine that in a couple of years you'll see good used 210w supplies on Ebay for reasonable prices.  The part number can be found in the parts list in the back of the HMM.  So that when you want to upgrade the GT 1030, you can do so.

Hi.We purchased 5 new ThinkCentres M710t for our company last week (model 10M90007GE). According to the product details on the Lenovo Shop, and also the product description on other websites, there should be preinstalled Cyberlink Software (CyberLink PowerDVD Create especially) but none of the pcs has it installed. It's not available for download on the support website either, and there is no SWTOOLS folder on the harddrive with software or drivers in it. Any chance to get the promised software somewhere? Thanks in advance

I'm trying to find out whether it is possible to put inside of a ThinkCentre M710T-000CUK, an EVGA GTX 1060 3GB card (as it does fit in the slot) and if it would work using the motherboard currently on it? I know I would need another power supply to get it to work, so my other question is whether there is a power supply out there capable and that would fit in the tower chasis or if there is an external power supply that I could connect somehow?

I've tried booting from several USBs; I've tried windows' media creation tools; and I've been trying different combinations in the setup utility (boot modde to UEFI, disabling secure boot, changing the boot sequences and so on...). When running the windows media creation tool from my desktop, it tells me tha the parameters are incorrect. Has anyone an idea as to what I should do? As you can tell I'm new to all this... Thanks!

A:ThinkCentre M71e tower, 3165: can I change the motherboard?

Ive owned a few m71e towers In my experience they are matx and use standard power connectors so a matx board will likley fit however, i am not so sure that you could get the front panel i/o, lights or switches to work without rewireing. And i dont remember if the cpu heatsink screws to the case or if it has its own backplate. If it screws to the case it wont fit but Im fairly sure it has its own removable backplate so it should be fine. Ive always done it the otherway around by putting lenovo main boards in gaming pc cases.

Problem: I have a dimension 4500s, it's a slim case design, with a compact 180W power supply. I got a new dell 2001fp monitor a few months ago, and the picture is great, but i'd like to get a video card with dvi to make it better and especially to run dual monitors. Most new video cards recommnd 300W power supply. I'm wondering how much that matters, and if there is a (PCI only) card out there that will do what i want with my power limitations. I don't generally play a lot of games, so i don't really need powerful card, just a reliable dual monitor support with dvi.

Hunt around for a Matrox G550 low-profile, available in both AGP and PCI. I've had this card in AGP for many years now, it should suit your power supply's limitations.

I have a M710t desktop with Windows 10. The bios screen doesn't appear on clicking any of the keys f1, f2, enter, shift, or any combination. There is no splash screen either. The UEFI-Firmware path through Windows 10 restarts the computer then puts it to sleep immediately if the keys are clicked. I restarted after turning off hibernate, and fast-start to no effect. Trying to access firmware settings through a linux installation freezes the computer completely. When I updated the bios with the one on the support page dated 8/29, the computer starts and two beeps are heard indicating fault in the ram.  The computer arrived about around 16/8/2017. Lenovo should not have shipped a machine with a faulty bios! I feel as if I have been scammed successfully.   There is the added happiness of random long double beeps indicating, I suppose, low fan speed as the cpu overheats...but I cant adjust it since UEFI/bios is inaccessible. I happen to be living in Japan. There is no email service, at least on the website.  I want to send this machine back to lenovo and run away from it. What can I do? Thank you very much.

Purchased the i7-6700 version of the M710T specifically because I wanted to run Win 8.1, not Win 10, which it shipped with. Installed a Plextor M8Se M.2 NVMe 256 Meg, which was immediately seen at boot under 10 and appeared with it's own screen at the beginning of the cold boot process. Then proceeded to backup Win 10 and then install fresh Win 8.1 Pro which also went smoothly. The issue: when booting under 8.1 the Plextor screen never appears (weird since this is at beginning of BIOS boot, before the OS begins to load) and Plextor's own utilities can see the boot drive, but as an SAS drive and doesn't recognize it as a Plextor it can interact with, in short it sees it as a Sata drive, not NVMe. Plextor is baffled, Win 8.1 is supposed to support the PCIe x4 NVMe. HWiNFO64 sees the Plextor just fine as a NVMe Controller, Device Manager  reports it's using the 6.3.9600.16421 Standard NVM Express Controller (ancient 2006 driver, MS has never updated this afaik). The drive has no other issues and works just fine except it's slower than expected and the Plextools cannot act upon it. What really baffles me is how switching the OS immediately had an effect on how the intial BIOS cold boot no longer 'sees' the Plextor boot up screen. Attempting to boot the M710T in UEFI hangs the machine completely (Win 8.1 was installed under AHCI with the Plextor formatted as NTFS as a Simple MBR volume). Pretty sure that I need to partition as a GPT volume to boot under UEFI, will t... Read more

I am having more problems with my IBM thinkcentre motherboard.

If you saw my other post you know about the bad capacitor that I replaced. I just got around to testing it today, because I had to wait for my new SATA hard drive & SATA power to molex cable to ship. Everything worked fine for a few hours, but I'm having the same problem I did before. Apparently that wasn't the problem (although the capacitor did need to be replaced because it was bad).
The video signal gets all "scrambled" and there are purple lines on the screen, the computer freezes and I have to turn it off with the switch on the power supply.
I don't know if it's overheating or what. I opened it and it was cool. Can a bad processor cause this?

RELEVANCY SCORE 31.6

My workstations (2) are each running only 4GB RAM.  Can they be upgraded to 8 GB?  Can I just add 4GB more, or should I buy 8 GB straight away?  Haven't even opened up the box to see whether there are any more slots? Have been using it just as it came out of the box a few years ago..  Don't know where else to find the info.. Thanks for this support group.Rich
