I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Murpg,Sorry for the delay, this forum is swamped right now.Because it has been quite a while, I need to see a fresh HijackThis log. Before you run the new HijackThis scan I want you to replace your old version of the program with a new one. Please delete the version currently on your computer, then click here and download the new version to your desktop. To use HijackThis, double-click on the icon. When it runs it will prompt you to extract hijackthis.exe to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis. If you would like to extract it to another location you can change the directory. When it is done installing, HijackThis will automatically launch. When the license agreement appears, select I accept and then click on the Do a system scan only button. When the scan is complete, click on the Save Log button to create a log of your information. When you post the new log, please post it directly in the body of your reply, rather than attaching the file.Dave

Hey everyone.

I hope this is the correct place for this kind of problem.

I would say, about two months or so ago, i starten having the problem where devices that are plugged in to the USB ports stopped responding.

Mouse went dead (Using the Logitech G9x, and the "sensitivity" light would start flashing)
Keyboard went dead
Headset sort of died, i still had sound, but i am unable to use voice.

Only solution was a "hard shutdown" of the computer.

The problem have been there since then, with an average crash every other day, and some days up to 3-4 times.

I'm not sure what other information i should add, but let me know and i will supply it.

Thanks in advance

p.s. Might also add that during this time i have also had quite a few randomly apearing BSOD

Hello and welcome Fesgen mate I am wondering if you have checked the drivers for updates if not have a look at these

You mention you cannot remember what memory you have so have a read of this

DownloadHW Info and pick the right bit version - HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download - (copy andpaste this site into the search bar) If you do not need the running informationin the smaller right hand panel close it. In the left hand window click on the+ for the individual device groupings and they will open out to the variouscomponents.

Goon opening out further until you get to the device itself. click on it and itwill highlight. In the right hand window there will be a very detaileddescription of that device as in brand, speeds model number etc etc These arevery detailed and are just what is needed for searching for drivers etc.

Seemy pic for an example - in this I have opened out one my components and then highlighted one of the one you need andyou can see the detail. (It is a pic of my RAM)

Hello all.
My name is Bing & I'm new to this forum & this is my 1st post, so please be gentle with me!
I have recently change back to win 7 fron 10 because I didn't like it.
However, I noticed that once I reverted back I was suffering problems. The 1st thing I noticed was the wireless mouse that I had been using for months no longer operated. I swapped back to the original wired 1 which works but not as it should. It now sticks a lot & sometimes I have to reboot my PC because it as locked up completely. I did try pulling the wireless Mouse USB to see if it would reload but nothing. I am only a computer user & have no relevant skills so any help would be greatly appreciated. I really hope someone can help me & point me in the right direction! Many thanks in advance.

So, while watching some streaming video (not the bad kind) all of a sudden the touch pad on my laptop stopped working. I hit the hotkeys to disable and reenable and still wasn't working. I did a reboot of the computer and it still wasn't functioning.

After a few minutes of fiddling around, the mouse cursor began moving on its own. It wasn't smooth or steady movements. Just inches jerking here and there. It was clicking on random things, opening tons of tabs in Firefox and such.

I was able to run a Malwarebytes scan that showed up with nothing wrong. Ran System Care as well just for kicks and they say nothing is wrong either. That was just too odd for me to not possibly check out. Below are the requested documents.

I have read that windows 7 requires a KVM with active DDC or DDC - EDID to function correctly.
Trying to find this out for the various units is time consuming, It usually isn't noted on the web sites.

I have a hi res monitor, VGA connector with 2 usb, mouse and keyboard. I just want to control 2 PCS.

Does anybody know of any reasonably priced units meeting these requirements ??

A:KVM control 2 PCs, mouse and keyboard

Sorry, my Win 7 computer still has the legacy PS/2 ports and works fine to control 2 computers. I forgot to mention my two KVM switches, with sound as well are IOGear.
a KVM with active DDC or DDC - EDID to function correctly.Click to expand...

That might be because of the USB ports. I'll have to looking to see what it means.
Here are three different IOGear units, all with 4 egg ratings.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007790%208000%20600030365&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&CompareItemList=143|17-107-417^17-107-417-S01%2C17-399-032^17-399-032-03%23%2C17-399-021^17-399-021-TS&percm=17-107-417%3A%24%24%24%24%24%24%24%3B17-399-032%3A%24%24%24%24%24%24%24%3B17-399-021%3A%24%24%24%24%24%24%24
The first is controlled by a button, the last by a hot key (on mine I press scroll lock twice in rapid succession to switch computers). No mention of how you get the middle unit to switch between the two computers.

I did some reading and it is a problem with monitors.
Multiple monitors: http://raywoodcockslatest.blogspot.com/2011/03/windows-7-kvm-in-multimonitor-setup.html

I can't guarantee you won't have this problem with one monitor connected by VGA.
I do notice I sometimes have wrong screen size settings but only if I boot a non-7 computer before the Win 7.

Well, this is embarrassing. Basically this is the equivalent of locking your keys outside your car with it running.

What I did:
I used gpedit.msc to restrict windows from automatically installing generic drivers.

What I did after:
I went on a driver deleting/rebooting frenzy in device manager to remove various drivers and their duplicates. In the process I deleted my keyboard and mouse drivers.

Why I did it:
I'm currently trying to diagnose a BSOD error, and I'm installing fresh drivers from the ground up for all devices.

In my BSOD diagnosing rage, I deleted the keyboard/mouse drivers without even thinking about the consequences. I plugged in PS/2 keyboard/mouse assuming it would work. WRONG.

Now what the hell am I supposed to do?

A:Help me get control of my keyboard/mouse!!!

First of all, keep calm. Drink some hot tea. Why did you want to restrict your computer from installing drivers automaticly anyway?

It would be wonderful if you had some kind of abillity to acces the computer on remote, like using logmeing or something. this way you can access your computer by remote and reinstall the drivers.

Otherwise I'd say you're somewhat forced to make a fresh reinstall...

How can I control the mouse cursor with my keyboard in Windows XP Pro? Sure it may not be as nice as the mouse and therefore I wouldn't use it always. Just when I code and need to do a little navigating. This way I wouldn't need to keep swaping from keyboard to mouse.

A:HOW: Use keyboard to control mouse cursor

I don't know if Win XP has the function, but go to Start, Help and search for mousekey.

In win98, you would enable it by going to accessibility options and turning it on there.

Hello, and thanks for being here.

I am working on my mother's computer. She has Windows XP SP3. Recently, she had a Microsoft keyboard stop working, so she had it replaced and had her system 'cleaned' by the local computer shop. Now the mouse is not working. The scroll only works some of the time, and often the window jumps around haphazardly as though you are spinning the scroll wheel up and down erratically.

I installed Security 360 and Spybot S&D and did scans. S360 found a Trojan, a Keylogger, and something else, but they were all in Restore files, so I don't know if they are active or not. Spybot found only tracking cookies.

The mouse is still behaving erratically, and I suspect it's the keylogger making it do that. Also, the screen saver never comes on. The screen blinks when it is supposed to go to the screensaver, but then it quickly refreshes and goes back to the desktop. This occurs without any user input.

Can you help me figure out if any nasties are living in this machine? TIA

First off, let me just say I don't know if this is posted in the right spot, so if it isn't, it would great if a Mod can move it.

So anyways, my computer has been having these problems since yesterday. The entire computer would completely freeze, and I would have no mouse or keyboard control. If I have music in the background, that stops playing, or just loops the same 10 seconds over and over.

I've opened up the side and made sure nothing was lose, cleaned out the dust that was in it. Ran a few scans (Spyware Doctor, Ad-Aware, Trend Micro, Norton, Uniblue SpyEraser that have found nothing. Ran Uniblue SpeedUpMyPC and Registry Booster which didn't solve the problem either.

The components in my computer include:

Intel C2D E6600 @ 2.4GHz (Stock)
2 GB Mushkin Dual Channel RAM
BFG GeForce 7900 GS
700W OCZ GameXStream PSU
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE

And it's running Windows XP SP3 32-Bit (this problem started before I installed SP3)

Any help is appreciated,
JK

Ever since I built this computer a few weeks ago, the first time I boot it up I'll get a stop error while starting Windows. Upon restarting, I have no keyboard or mouse control when Windows attempts to repair the problem. I've found that if I restart it enough, eventually keyboard/mouse control comes back, I can decline the system repair, and on the next reboot it boots normally. Subsequent restarts work fine, and even if I shut it down for several hours it will boot up fine. I've yet to boot normally on the first boot of the day , however.

I've run Prime95 blend test for several hours and had no errors.
Typically the bug check code is 0x000007e, and the affected driver is ntoskrnl.exe.

Hello, I have a semi-weird question. Is it possible to control multiple computers using one keyboard, mouse and monitor? I would like to be able to do the same task at the same time on many computers (8 or 10). I understand they would have to all be running the same operating system and screen resolution and pretty much same everything else. I know it is an odd question, but I was hoping that someone could tell me of a way to do it. A piece of hardware or software that would allow it. The computers will all be located in the same place, so no remote desktop connections are necessary. Please let me know if it is possible. Thanks so much!

Hi, I am looking for a good remote control for the keyboard and mouse on Windows 8. I had an Android app that I was using under Windows 7 but the mouse won't work under Windows 8. The developer said this is not possible on Windows 8 touch screen devices. I am now considering hardware remote controls but I'm concerned about the mouse issue before purchasing. Any input on keyboard and mouse remote controls that work under Windows 8/8.1 would be very welcome. Thanks!

Hi, if you still have your Android phone or tablet you can use Vectir Remote Control. I am successfully using this for controlling the mouse and keyboard on a Windows 8 touch screen computer. It has a dedicated keyboard and mouse driver which will make it work on any Windows PC. It also works really well as a VLC and iTunes remote control.

Yesterday I successfully wiped my computer and reinstalled windows. Everything seemed to be fine until I tried to install the INF driver. It did its thing and then said click next to continue. At this point I realized my mouse and keyboard didn't work. I restarted the computer and noticed that the mouse and keyboard glowed as if they were working until windows started up at which point they stopped glowing and I couldn't use them. Because of this I'm pretty sure I have access to the BIOS options but nothing else. Does anyone know what went wrong or how I can fix this problem? A speedy response would be greatly appreciated as I now have limited access to a computer.

Hi All, I visit thee forums frequently but rarely post. Anyhow, on to my issue -

I am running an HTPC on Win7 64-bit. I have a Microsoft Arc keyboard, no mouse. I can do most navigation, etc with a keyboard fine (majority of the time it's in Media Center anyhow) but there are a few applications/buttons that are inaccessible without using a mouse/cursor. Windows has Mouse Keys built-in but you must use the numeric keypad to control which is not an option for me (or most laptop users probably). I have done some searching but haven't found a solution yet. Ideally, in a perfect world, I wish I could do something as simple as when I hold down another button the arrow keys could be used to move mouse instead of normal arrow key movement.

Mary, keyboard problems are not invariably software or malware-related. First things first - what OS are you talking about ? XP, Win 7, Win 8 or what? What type of keyboard is it? PS2, USB or wireless?

Disconnect it and reconnect it a few times, reboot and try again. Turn the keyboard upside down, placing one end on the edge of a thick book, and thump a few times on the back with your hand. Sweep the crud onto the carpet.....

Is it just a keyboard hardware problem, and if so which keys? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/keyboard-shortcuts#keyboard-shortcuts=windows-7 tells you a lot of key combinations with ctrl and shift and alt. Tell us if any or none work?

Open a document and try typing a bit of text. Do all the characters work?

If it appears the keyboard is faulty, can you borrow another to test?

Quite often, keyboard problems are down to wireless problems: and can often be solved by re-installing the keyboard driver.

I had connected my USB device somewhere else and as soon as I connected it to my computer strange things were happening: I could not access the device's content via "My Computer" for a while so I got suspicious if I might have caught a virus or something. I tried to access the task manager, but something told me "Disabled by administrator". I tried to access the registry editor: same message. In both cases my computer automatically made a restart instead of getting me where I wanted to. After that I discovered that I cannot see hidden folders anymore as my computer was adjusted to before. I tried to change that, but the "tools" have been altered so I cannot enable "Show hidden folders" anymore. Then I've tried to access Windows' system restore in order to try to restore to an earlier point of time. It just resarted the computer again. Looks like have lost control over my computer and I cannot even see what caused it.

From what you describe, it appears to be a flash drive infection. Flash drive infections usually involve malware that loads an autorun.inf file into the root folder of all drives (internal, external, removable). When the removable media is inserted, autorun looks for autorun.inf and automatically executes a malicious autorun.bat file which calls wscript.exe to run autorun.vbs on your computer. When a flash drive becomes infected, the Trojan will infect a system when the removable media is inserted if autorun has not been disabled.Download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear. The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.Reboot your computer when done.Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder...it will help protect your drives from future infection.Download RatsCheddar.zip and save it to your desktop. It is a Policy Controller program written by Rathat to remove certain restrictions on XP systems often disabled by malware.Extract (unzip) the file to the desktop. I have a Sony (vaio) computer using Windows XP home edition. A few weeks ago the computer started acting up and I was getting various pop-up messages. I do have Norton Security system which is supposed to help prevent viruses and other malicious infections. I have been getting a recent pop-up from Norton telling me my subscription will expire soon (it won't - I have at least 7 months left on it). I have been reading some messages from other people on this web site and a lot of people seem to have similar problems. When I went to install a program I was surprised to find that my Control Panel access was missing. I clicked on start and then "run", keyed in control panel and got a message " This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". I also get a pop-up stating that (in essence) my hard disc is filling up. This is probably true, since I do not have the Control panel to delete any temporary files which are filling up that folder and I have several games which take up space. I am not a genius at this stuff, but not a dummy either - somewhere in between, so be gentle with me.

Tech Guy, please forgive me if posting this in wrong category - I'm a seasoned computer user but totally new to forums and indeed asking for help !!
I have managed to get the Trojan.downloader-Gen/nomultitask amongst others yesterday. AVG noticed it and gave me the option to heal but froze whilst healing. I've had super anti spyware for a while so I ran that and on 1st scan it found Trojan.Net-APV/AVT and quarantined it successfully or so I thought. I noticed a loss of the Control Panel and all administrative activities, even such as getting into windows firewall settings. Each attempt gives me an error message saying my computer has restrictions which were never there before. 2nd scan showed up the Trojan.Net-APV/AVT and also quarantined that.
All further attempts to scan have left my machine clean as far as the various programs are reporting but I still cannot access control panel. Nor can I 'system restore' or, seem to do anything to regain the admin control.
I have serched the net for assistance and all I can find is your site with a post of b cavender / cheeseball refering to a similar issue but the entries from the helper warn that the action is specific to the user and asks for several pastes of scan logs. I've managed to resolve several malware / virus problems over the years but this one has beaten me and I'm a little worried about connecting to the net with this machine it in it's present state or indeed whether the machine is safe... As has apparently happened to many people I have somehow lost my volume control program in xp (home edition). And, as has also happened to many people, in attempting to rectify that situation I have discovered that the instalation CD that I have from emachines (the manufacturer of my machine) is not really THE XP CD. Not that I'm telling any of you anything that you don't already know (but it is a decent typing exercise), I was wondering IF there is a solution that fixes that, and if there is not is there a program that (freely or cheaply) solves the problem? The purpose of this, of course, is to be able to get the volume control icon in the system tray.
There is a program listed if you dogpile search xp volume control program that looks very nice, but it's a $20.00 buy, which seems a lot for something that should be there anyway.
Thanks

A:loss of xp volume control program

Hi,
First go to Control Panel-Sounds and Audio Devices-Volume and be sure that a check mark is in "Place volume icon in the taskbar."

If that does not solve the problem try a fix from Kelly's Korner at:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Line 320, left side-"Restore Volume/Net Icon to Notification Area"

Good Luck,

Hi,

Clearly, I am new here. I would first like to say thank you to the many contributors to this forum as they have been full of useful advice and help in the past. I find myself at a crossroads with my laptop. I was infected with a variety of adware, spyware, trojan, and rootkit problems about two months ago. I used Spyware Doctor initially to rid myself of Security Tool. While that was effective, I've been infected with something new and more insidious. Some symptoms of the problem include but are not limited to: I can't change the background from that annoying blue color, I don't have administrative control over many areas of my computer, everything runs extremely slow.
I considered wiping the system but I can't transfer my documents, music, and movies because I am told that I don't have proper permissions and to contact my service administrator. I used superantispyware briefly and it seemed to be extremely effective but it requires a restart to eliminate threats and every time I restart and try to open it again I get the following message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I've tried renaming it multiple times but still seem to be sunk.
I've heard much of different utilities like Hijackthis which I presume are used for diagnostics. If i need to use this please let me know.

As I am extremely novice, I appreciate any help and any patience with ... Read more

On some systems depending on how much data you had in RAM must be copied back from the drive to the RAM.

Gudday all
I have just noticed that I cannot open the power options via the control panel in XP Pro on my laptop.
The power options is visible but clicking on it has no apparent effect i.e. nothing happens.
I noticed it because I wished to change the behaviour of the laptop itself.
I hadn't loaded any XP updates lately so I am assuming that that is not an issue.
I do not have an XP Pro disc as I brought the laptop 2nd hand.
Would I need that disc to repair anything? I do have a couple of XP Home discs.

I will get a short beep and once in a while my PC will reboot. Rebooting will usually occur when I am printing through a USB port. I use a belkin 54g network adapter and have recently doubled my RAM to 1 Gig. I am at a loss.

A:random reboots and loss of pointer control

Well im not really sure why you are loosing control of you mouse but there is a way to find out what file is not working properly. I am going to quote from Etaf as he puts it best:
"goto
control panel>
system>
advanced tab>
startup and recovery - settings>
under the title - system failure
untick - automatically restart"Click to expand...

After doing this the next time your computer restarts a blue screen will come up telling you in what file the error code is and filename.

Now search microsoft for the error and forums for the error code. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/ph/1173?sid=216

Most of the icons on my desktop have vanished
I cannot download certain programs
Links on the desktop to Error Cleaner, Privacy Protector and Spyware&Malware Protection have appeared
The system time has VIRUS ALERT! after it
Three is a red X in the system tray that notifies me of an infection
Popups appear every few minutes to try to take me to websites using IE browser (I typically use Mozilla Firefox)
I've lost administrator rights and the resources are being overtaxed, making it near impossible to do anything

I disconnected myself from the internet and am using another computer for all internet business.

I tried to follow your first 5 steps as best I can, but was unable to complete steps 1 or 2 due to computer restrictions. After using the DSS tool, only the main.txt window appeared, so I cannot attach the extra.txt (main.txt to follow)

I was searching the net and found someone else on your forum with the same problem (http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...rus-alert.html) Following the steps there I downloaded ComboFix and used it to open WindowsXP-KB310994-SP2-Home-BootDisk-ENU. The log for that follows main.txt.

This is just a real mess and a huge inconvenie... Read more

A:Possible Trojan - Loss of Administrator & Missing Control Panel

Sorry for the second post...but I wanted to update you on the situation.

I had some more success today.

I was searching my computer for files I didn't recognise and I found the extra.txt file for the DSS scan (attached)

I browsed some more on the internet and found another place offering solution. I downloaded SmitfraudFix.exe and ran it in safemode.
It seemed to give me back control of my computer (administrator status regained!). I can tell the trojan is still lurking because I'll occasionally get an IE popup...I add the URL to the zoneout blocker. SmitfraudFix gave me a rapport.txt file (log to follow)

I went back to panda scan and had so much more success this time because my computer's resources weren't bogged down. I completed the scan and only found 2 dangerous files which I got rid off. (ActiveScan.txt attached as well)

So my computer is at least in working order again. I am probably going to leave it like this while I travel. I'll check back here when I return around the 5th of September to see if there is any advice you guys can give me.

THANKS AGAIN!
IB

Hello.

I seem to have the same exact issue as several others here.

A couple weeks ago, I started getting these "warning! potential spyware operations..." and then I noticed that my control panel is simply gone, and that I'm locked out of certain operations such as "view system information" under My Computer.

I have a feeling that an expert will recommend I download HJTInstall.exe, then post the contents of the log so that he/she can analyze it and tell me what to do next?? I replied similarly on another thread expressing the same problem but thought it might be more effective if I started my own thread.

Please excuse my inexperience! I'm brand new to the forum and the sort of problem that brought me here.

Cheers.

I have been having problems for a while with my laptop pausing, running slowly and I have recently had my email hijacked. I also am having trouble with not having administrative privileges even though I show I am an administrator. I am attaching a hijack this log to see if I can ascertain what the problem is. I am running Vista Home Previous 64 bit. Thanks in advance!

A:Loss of Administrative control, Slow computer, hijacked email.

HijackThis is no longer widely used due to it's failures to keep up with the changing face of malware. Please follow steps six, seven and eight here and then start a NEW thread and post accordingly. Will you also include a brief description of your PC's issues to keep everything together, or just say that it's a look-see, and somebody will be along to help as soon as.To keep things tidy i'll lock this thread.

I just recently reconnected my computer to the internet and it has quickly gotten bogged down with malware. I've got McAffee, but it is pretty worthless. I disabled iexplorer by brute force (deleting files) and that solved most popup problems. However, I still have some nasty program that has hidden my control panel, and does not let me add/remove programs, chance times and dates, mess with the desktop, etc. My task manager is still working at least, but that is about it. I have no clue where to start... something keeps closing down spybotSD before it even has a chance to install.

O benevolent tech support guys, help me please!
