Low Server Knowledge+Access+SharePoint=Success?

Q: Low Server Knowledge+Access+SharePoint=Success?

I am wondering if it is possible to use Sharepoint in connection with Access 2007 for the purposes of building a database to manage information that myself and employees out of the office can access... if I don't know the first thing about servers.

Does Microsoft make this possible, or does it require a high level of server knowledge?

Preferred Solution: Low Server Knowledge+Access+SharePoint=Success?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

First, my thanks to this forum for giving this intermediate user the knowledge to effectively eliminate agent e. In the process, however I may have messed-up my email connection. (Outlook Express running on XP Home; I connect through a cable modem that is routed to another home computer).
Outlook displays this error message iommediately upon striking the send/receive:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.mindspring.com', Server: 'pop.mindspring.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

I've checked the routine stuff with the modem, and of course the internet is working including the springmail access to my email. As best as I can reconstruct, in my frustrated effort to rid the virus, I used hijackthis and selectively deleted three or four suspicious files. Other than that, I followed the regedit name change very carefully. I suspect this is a simple fix, but I am really in the dark.. All advice welcomed. GB

A:agent e success, but email server problems remain

The 0x800ccc0f error occuring right away appears to indicate that you have a blocked port. This is most commonly caused by firewalls and AntiVirus programs. Try removing the router from the mix and directly connecting the computer to the internet. Test the send\receive from this configuration. If that doesn't work try telneting to the server to see if you can connect. To telnet (no quotes):

1. Click on "Start" and then "Run". Type "cmd" and press "OK"
2. At the DOS prompt type "telnet pop.mindspring.com 110" and press "Enter"

If you are succesful you should get a welcome or an OK message from the server. If this fails it means that either the server is down or your port is blocked. You can easily check the status of the server through your webmail interface. If the port is blocked try disabling or uninstalling your firewall and\or AV programs and test from that configuration.

hey guys I was a little confused if this was the right place 'all other applications'
So I have extremely limited experience with Sharepoint 2013.
But my boss asked me today if I could just 'check out' what possibilities we might have with sharepoint 2013.
Regarding two things.
1: We have documentation spread all over our 'older sharepoint' and 3 other purchased systems..
this documentation is everything from firewall logs, to password lists, IP lists, printer manuals, etc etc.
2: We have our own constructed Wiki, in reality we have 600 documents in a folder.
like: "How to get rid of this virus" "How to push our security out on iphones" articles to help us in the IT department.
We have an Active Directory and Exchange user setup.
So lets say you wanted to sort all this out, and have it placed in one spot.
with easy search functions, and of course the possibility to limit users as only our Admin accounts from the AD should
be allowed to view the password lists.

Not knowing anything about sharepoint 2013, could you maybe point me in a direction towards something that might be suitable?
also if you plan on suggesting alternatives, let me make it clear we don't wish this to be online, no cloud services

On January 13, 2003, Microsoft released Service Pack 2 (SP2) for SharePoint Portal Server 2001. Soon afterward, continued internal testing revealed a previously undiscovered problem in the service pack. Microsoft immediately discontinued downloads of the service pack and is completing the required updates, which will be made available soon. In the meantime, Microsoft has provided this patch for customers who may have downloaded and installed this service pack.

This problem involves the way that indexing is performed. Indexing is a process initiated by content sources set up by the administrator, through which the content on the server is made searchable. This problem may, in some cases, cause the indexing process to be incomplete, therefore preventing portions of the content from being exposed to searches.

Microsoft recommends that customers who have downloaded and installed SharePoint Portal Server SP2 apply this patch, or avoid performing indexing (also known as crawling) until the corrected version of the service pack is made available. Customers who downloaded SharePoint Portal Server SP2 require either this patch or the updated SP2 to correct the problem

I think what I'm doing should be pretty simple but I'm not sure why its not working.

We have a Linksys RV016 router receiving 2 separate dynamic IP connections on WAN1 (Linksys adsl modem) and WAN2 (Billion wireless adsl router). We also have a dynamic DNS service subscribed to from DynDNS.

Currently, all three the RV016 and both adsl modems are configured to report the public IP to the DDNS service. I'm not sure if ONLY the RV016 should be doing this, or only ONE of the two modems, or if it doesn't mattter.

We have a SHarepoint Server running behind the RV016 that I want to make available from outside, by Internet users.

In the RV016, I've enabled the DDNS service, and forwarded ports 80, 444 and the specific port that our Sharepoint Site is running answering on. I've forwarded these to the static IP address that is assigned to our Sharepoint Server. I've set the Access Rules to ALLOW these connections from any interface, always.

With the RV016 Firewall on or off, hitting the DDNS name always times out, but I know the DDNS service is working because the login information resolves and updates in the RV016 admin, and pinging the name resolves to the same IP address as our reported public IP address.

What else must I do on the RV016, or what should I be doing on either or both of the dsl modems? I have disconnected one, and then alternatively the other adsl router/modems so that we're only receiving one internet connection in trying... Read more

Not sure if this is possible so any feedback would be useful.

Have several document libraries, with many files in each. Each file has a column which defines the files contents ie Junk, useful, etc. Is it possible to restrict access to files with a specfic tag ie "junk" on either a library or site setting rather than per file.

I have been told the only methods to get this working are to move the specific files to a sub folder and control by folder persmission or to control the permissions on a file by file basis. Is this true or is it possible to do what i want?

I need to find out if there is a faster way to update a sharepoint list with data from access. Right now the query that is doing the Update takes about 30-45 minutes. There are about 1200 records and 15 Fields. Part of the Concern is that it aslo Marks each record in Sharepoint as Modified. I was wondering if a better way might me to pull the data from the linked table into a temp table update the records and then just update those specific records to sharepoint....Havent Used sharepoint in this capacity before so im not sure it that would work.

A:Solved: Access/Sharepoint question

Fixed this by using the data from Sharepoint to make a temp table updating the main table with an update query writting in VBA and then deleting the records in the temp table, cut it from 15-30 minute query to about a 3-5 second one.

From what I've seen online, it's not possible to rename a folder pinned to the Quick Access list without renaming the folder itself. This is posing a challenge for me with respect to setting up SharePoint libraries as "favorites," like I had in Windows 7, because of the way my company set up SharePoint.

Our IT Department told me to add a shortcut instead of a direct link, I'm not finding any info on how to do that. I tried creating a folder, pinning it, then adding a shortcut within that folder, but it doesn't show a list of files in the library, it's literally a shortcut to the library.

My questions are:
1. Has anybody successfully pinned SharePoint libraries to Quick Access and renamed in that list them without renaming them in SharePoint?

2. If not, is there a workaround?

Thanks in advance! I'm trying to avoid a list of folders called "Shared."

Please help. I need advice on what could be the cause and why but not a fix solution yet. It is a work computer and I am being blamed. I need to know enough to run scans and what to look for.
Barracuda filter reports 49 attempts to access http://img100-493.xvideos.com/thumbs/... in a span of 4 minutes. Some are four or five attempts in a second. This computer has NEVER accessed ANY porn sites, it is a work laptop. It has Chrome, Firefox, and Explorer. Chrome being used the most.

How did this happen? How come I didn't see it happening? Can this be malware, junkware, or a trojan? Why doesn't Kaspersky see it as a virus when they scan now?

I am supposed to set up a method so that a client can access reports and data 24/7 but they also want to be able to limit access so certain users can only access certain data.
The easiest thing I can figure out - aside from using a special service - would be to set up FTP accounts on my company's website and set different levels of security for them, or set up different folders that each contain the limited data (and one with all of the data) and only allow the limited users access to those specific folders (this is for a project covering a number of regions, and the overall admin needs to see all of the data, but a person from one region should only see the data for that region.)

I have an Access db that updates a large number of sharepoint lists (over 800). The lists that it updates are on a large number of workspaces that are always changing.

Right now the database uses the DoCmd.TransferSharePointList to link to the sharepoint lists one at a time, then deletes the table after it's updated. This causes a lot of bloating and slows down the database until it's nearly unusable.

I would like to find a way to simply change the sharepoint list that the tables are linked to instead of constantly creating and deleting new tables. Is this possible? Maybe there's a way that will reduce the bloating?

Any help would be appreciated.

I am working with a Sharepoint developer on creating a site. When I open the site using Sharepoint Designer, I can't access the information in the Data Source Library pane.

When I view the Data Source Library pane, I get one line that says "Current Site" with a "+" next to it but it is grayed out and cannot be clicked (can't expand it).

The developer I'm working with sees the same but it is not grayed-out and she can click it and browse the data sources.

She says she has given me full permissions and indeed when I access the site and view Site Permissions, it say "Full Control" next to my name.

Anyone got any idea of why I am unable to view the Data Source Library?

You can use WebDAV that will make SP site look and use like a normal folder structure. Our Network admins implemented shortly after upgrading to SP10 and it has been a live saver.
I am able to acces folders like \\MySharePoint\DavWWWRoot\DDS\QA\Consumers and access files stored in sharepoint folder. I think configuration is available to allow the skipping of the wwwRoot part as well.

You might also try using the url path and replaceing the %20% with a space.

I am experiencing difficulty getting at my files. I have used the "Take Ownership" registry hacks (which open a command window) on files and/or folders, and I get a "SUCCESS" message each time; however, I still cannot access the files. I can copy the files, and the proper permissions get set on the copies ... but I have several hundred gigs of files and not enough disk space left to do that, to say nothing of having to rename the files.  Strange thing is, after I copy a file, I can delete the original file ... but still not "execute" it (double-click; the app that owns that type of file opens, but reports that it can't get access to the file). I set UAC to "off" (lowest setting) and am trying the "Take Ownership" thing again to see if that makes a difference; in the meantime, has anyone else experienced this problem?

A:Integration of Access 2007 , Sharepoint 2010 and Info Path 2010

I see no one is offering anything on this post. Not a great site for SharePoint(SP) information. But SP its self is relatively new for developers. We can't afford real SP developers so se make our own. Not a great plan but we are supporting a large SP site.

I think with Access 2007 the best approach is to use it to update list and make reports from list. There is no integration to InfoPath forms that I know of. You have to build them on top of your list with SP Designer.

I did find this video in my favorites that says publish access 2007 to SP2010. I haven't whatch recently...
If you really need Access (in SP) you have to go to 2010. I waited till Access and SP 2010 were available on a test site and build a relatively simple db with a couple of reports and queries that did funcion correctly (without too much alteration). I did have to key each table before it would 'publish'. The 'publish' wizard will walk you thru needed fixes. I looked for the DB to refresh my memory but someone has rebuilt the test site and dropped it.

Any way good luck. I wish I had some recent experience on the issue to offer. Maybe this will 'bump' your thread and get some more information!

I have a Access 2000 database residing on one sever and an installation of SQL Server 2008 residing on another. Both servers are running Windows Server 2003. I created a linked server using the code below. When I run EXEC sp_tables_ex 'PropCont' I get the following,
"OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: The provider did not give any information about the error.].
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_tables_ex, Line 13
OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error."

I tried changing the code to specify my account information, which has Administrative privileges on the domain and I get,
"OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80040e4d: Authentication failed.].
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_tables_ex, Line 13
OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error. Authentication failed."

Originally I was getting an error that said, "The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user" I found an article on line that suggested I do the following,
"1. Open SSMS
2. Expand Server Objects, Linked Servers, Providers
3. Double click the provider (Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0)
4. UNTICK the "Allow inprocess" option"
I did this and I stopped ... Read more
