Which Lenovo laptops support dual monitors?

Q: Which Lenovo laptops support dual monitors?

Asking this here because there isn't a general category. Which range of Lenovo laptops would support dual-monitors with least hassle? I think I'm asking which models have displayport outputs as that seems the preferred route. The product selection system on the website doesn't allow this granularity of filtering so one would have to look through the entire range! Thanks, Rob.

Preferred Solution: Which Lenovo laptops support dual monitors?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I typically work with dual monitors by using an external monitor with my laptop. I run windows 7 on the laptop. Typically I need dual monitors to run applications such as statistical software, GIS (ESRI), and archival research software e.g. Atlas.ti etc. I also need to keep interview transcripts (ussually word docs) and excel spreadsheets with raw data on one screen while I write using a word doc on the other screen. Here's my problem. I will be working overseas for the next three months and need to use dual monitors but don't want to lug an external monitor on a flight. So I was wondering if there is a way to use one of my two laptops as an external monitor. Both run Windows 7. I've thought about taking an Ethernet cable and trying to build a network between the two laptops, but don't know if this would work.

At this point I am too addicted to using dual monitors that I can't go back to one monitor. Any advice?

I have an HDTV and a laptop and my laptop has a DVI output (thats it) and the TV has an HDMI input therefore I bought an DVI to HDMI cable hooked up the HDMI to the tv and hooked up the DVI to the laptop

HDTV LG 20" Model 20LS7D
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

So I plugged in both and the TV will not let me select HDMI input, basically theres no signal, I already activated the second monitor via the xp settings and set it to a display that the tv can support tried to turn the tv on and off and nothing worked. My Omega drivers are recognizing a second Panel, an "FPD" and the display however it wont work, I even tried to force connect to a tv and that wont work.

I was given an alienware 5500, the f4 function key only allows the switching between LCD-only, CRT only and LCD and CRT. F5 and 6 are audio options (because I know some laptops function keys allows dual monitors).

Any suggestions? Should I not be using Omega drivers? Was this free alienware laptop worse off then I thought, etc?

I have two working laptop pcs, and I'm curious about the possibility of combining them into one unit and running both screens as a dual monitor system.

My question is 1) Is this even possible with notebooks, and 2) How do I go about doing this?

I've found a lot of helpful tutorials on the topic in relation to desktop computers... but I'm pretty sure it will be completely different if trying it with laptops. And as I said, I'm not even sure it's possible... but I feel like it should be.

Any tips or links that might help point me in the right direction?

A:Combining 2 Laptops to Run as Dual Monitors?

I agree it should be possible, but it's not

Now, in saying that there are ways
One way is to have Remote Desktop setup so one computer can see the other Computer through sharing Remotely
Since one computer can see the full Desktop, you could split the screen to see yours and the other.

Yes they can, but unless they also happen to support Eyefinity you are limited to one of the displays being the laptop's own.

I have these cards on a fast Dell T7500 with 65 GB RAM and they are FLAKEY. They came with 2 Wesson Active Adapters but the AMD guys said to get ACCELL so now I have 8 ACCELL adapters. At first 8 monitors worked, then 6, then 5. Since 5 does not work at a contiguous desktop, I have dropped one fro the matrix within Windows (still have 8 connected).

AMD tech support is a JOKE! For MONTHS before the Holidays their phones many times said "Can not connect to support at this time" and this was in the advertised business hours for tech support. A few times I did get through, there were people there who had no idea what what going on (had RCV) and kept finger pointing to "software on your machine" And, yet, I have been running with NVIDIA or AMD 2460 cards on this machine for over a year with no problem. I got the W7000 for speed; well, that part is OK, the four that work are fast. But, it would be nice if they all worked. Duh?

Lat week, for instance, I had a talk with a AMD person named Dan who told me (once he heard my story) that there is a ligh level guy named Charlie who really, really wants to work on my case but Charlie is busy now and will call me at 7AM Monday morning. I was here at 6:45 this morning and no call. In fact after an hour I called AMD and the message was AMD tech support does not open until 11 AM. At 11, I called and got some poor guy who barely knew up from down (very polite though) and made all kinds of excuses for Charlie l... Read more

A:Dual AMD W7000 for 8 monitors - No support from AMD

Ok so if I am reading correctly this is the card you purchased correct?

Now then, you have two of these running in one machine im assuming X-Fired together so you can output on 8 displays. So the way im reading this (please correct my if im wrong) you have 8 display port adapters going to 8 different monitors (Display port to HDMI, DVI, or what?).

So here are my questions:
Which monitors have dropped off (Which card or both and which ports)?
Do you have the latest Catalyst for the Workstation cards running?
What version of windows are you running?

Here's a couple of quick things you can do to try and get all 8 working and ill see if I can't figure out the issue with you:

Try disabling eyefinity and running every monitor as an independent display.
Try rebuilding eyefinity in the control center and see if it detects all 8 monitors

One thing is that display port is designed to hold more than one monitor per port, im guessing you are using the DVI connectors since they came with it. My advice would be instead of using every port on each card, buy some of the dual display port adapters and use only the top card to run eyefinity, using 2 cards for multiple displays tends to run into issues at times especially when connecting such an extreme amount of monitors.

As far as I can tell, the Lenovo no longer has a solution for running dual 4k monitors using the P50 Thinkpad. When you use the docking station, you are limited to the bandwidth of a single DisplayPort 1.2.  This is not enough bandwidth for 2 x 4k monitors @ 60Hz. There was a solution using the Thunderbolt 3 interface with an external adapter, which is what I bought.  Lenovo used to have a Thunderbolt 3 Firmware NVM upgrade to permit inter-operation with the external adapter, but that link has been removed, and there is no way now to upgrade the Thunderbolt 3 firmware. I know of no other solution which will enable me to run dual 4k monitors with the P50. I bought a P50, two 4k monitors, and the Plugable Thunderbolt-to-Dual-DisplayPort Adapter.  But without firmware upgrade, the P50 will not recognize the adapter.  So my very expensive purshase, in terms of both time and money, will not work. Can someone please re-post the Thunderbolt 3 Firmware Upgrade link? Or should I just return all my equipment?

DisplayPort connector, DVI-D connector, VGA monitor port, and a Kensington security lock slot.

I have a user with a Thinkpad T460 (20FN003FUS) and a LenovoThinkpad Ultra Dock. We are using two external monitors: one going out from the VGA port of the docking station and one going out from the DisplayPort port and going through a DisplayPort - VGA adapter. The system worked fine at first. I have just purchased a Lenovo Y900i and I am having an issue with connecting dual monitors on my PC.My computer has two HDMI ports and one VGA port. However, only one HDMI port actually seems to work and the VGA does not.I have test both monitors and neither monitor is faulty. When I connect the monitors to the non-working HDMI port or to the VGA; they seem to sense that they are connected to something, but obviously do not display anything. However, when I go to the display options in System, it does not detect the monitor.I have also tried going into the NVDIA Control Panel to try to detect the device, but that is not working either.I have tried changing resolution settings, but to no avail. I have checked BIOS and there seems to be nothing about display or port options that would assist me in activating any particular port.I have a feeling that the issue has something to do with adaptor settings, but alas I am not tech savvy enough to figure this one out by myself.Currently both monitors are connected to HDMI ports.Model: Lenovo Y900iOperating System: Windows 10Graphics Card: NVDIA GeForce GTX 1080

Having just upgraded from XP using the Nvidia dual monitor desktops for years, I was surprised to find Windows 7 has this feature in-built with the added bonus of slideshow desktop images C00L!
So beyond Win7 eye candy which is better, Does it come down to games running faster under the Nvidia dual desktops, what is the general preference here?

A:Is Nvidia dual monitors a poor cousin to Windows 7 dual monitors?..

afaik, there is no real performance difference, as all stuff is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

And of course the more monitors the higher performance hit as there is more screen surface to work on (the same as increasing resolution).

Btw, the main pityfall of the multiple monitors is that the taskbar is only in the primary monitor, but there are a ton of good third party programs that can handle this, like Actual Multiple Monitors.

Hi! I just upgraded to Win8 this weekend and so far I really like it. I discovered something this morning that now that the weekend is over is bugging the crap out of me and I need help. I work from home and use this alot so it would be helpful.

I am trying to do a couple things I could easily do in 7,
- have Chrome open in both monitors at once with different things on them.
- currently Chrome has no minimize/maximize buttons on the upper right like it used to. Makes it very hard to multitask.

I have 2 monitors, the main is a 23" touch screen and the second is an 18" non-touch screen.

Also, is there a way to have the taskbar to appear at the bottom always like it used to?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help!

Now if someone could tell me why windows 8 won't fill the screen at the resolution recommended for my 23" monitor I'd be good!

Anyone know if there are any laptops out there that support 48-bit addressing and support two hard disks?

A:Laptops that support two hard disks?

Never saw one, since the whole point of a laptop is size. Also, the largest 2.5" drives right now are at 100mb, LBA48 hasn't been a factor for laptops yet.

Obviously, you can add an external USB disk, I have a 60gig USB 2.5" drive that's not much larger than the 2.5" disk itself, it travels with my laptop. If you're needing more storage, any USB hard disk will connect to the laptop, I've connected my 300gig USB drive to the laptop, works fine.

Hello all,
I would like to ask your opinion about Dell Australia technical support and Dell Pro support (the one you pay extra for next business day service).  What do you think about it? Are you satisfied? I am starting to believe that it is actually a scam. Let me explain:
A few days ago my laptop (Dell XPS 15 Haswell) died, it wouldn't power up. I called support and they told me they will send someone to replace the motherboard in 2 days (it was 17:30 or something). I also explained them that it is very important to have the laptop up and running this week because this is the laptop I use to work. After two days the technician came at my place (he was late, I missed two important meetings at work because of that) and replaced the motherboard.  After he left I realised that the laptop will power up itself after shut down from both Windows and Linux. To avoid that I had to hard-shut down (press power button continuously). I called them back and the PRO support was insisting that it was a software problem. I was explaining them that this is impossible based on several facts. They even asked me to run a GPU test from windows which was just testing the D3D11 capabilities of the GPU. Clearly the technicians at PRO support are incompetent. After spending 2+ hours on the phone they realised the obvious: The problem was indeed a hardware problem. Also, they told me that the replacement parts for the laptop are always refurbished parts. I kinda understand the poi... Read more

Hello dunna, welcome to Sevenforums

With a laptop, (assuming you have an HDMI port), it shouldn't be too difficult. However, laptops are different. For example, mine, you plug in the secondary monitor, and there is a function key (Fn) that you press, and the corresponding key to change the output mode (for me, it is F1). It should let you choose how you want to display to the monitor. Test it out yourself to see, but if you can't find it, let us know. It helps if you provide the laptop type, so we can tell you the keys exactly

Hello, My company recently purchased a dual 4k setup for a work station. The setup is the following:2 ThinkVision P27 monitorsLenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 DockT570 (Type: 20HA) I setup the monitors and docking station yesterday and was able to power the displays using a X1 Carbon 5th gen (i5 model type: 20HQ) thru USB-C without issue. I have a user testing out the desk now with a T570. I'm able to get one monitor to funtion at 4K and the other is running at 1080p. If you check display settings I'm unable to increase the resolution to 4K. I've updated all drivers on the T570 including the display driver and thunderbolt docking station driver this morning and the system still fails to power dual 4K. I brought back the X1 I used previously and it powers the screens normally. I checked the specs of the T570 and its identical to the X1 as far as processor is concerned and the model page claims the USB-C port on the T570 can power dual 4K. What else can I try?
