Preferred Solution: Touchpad and touchscreen stopped working on dell XPS 13 9360 with ubuntu 16.04. They work on liveUSB

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Guys,
I have bouhgt new DELL XPS 13 9360 few weeks ago. Worked perfectly, until some Windows and/or Dell Update. My TouchPad stopped working.
In device manager I can see that I2C HID device can't start (ERROR CODE 10).
The external mouse is working fine.
Sometimes helps to stop the I2C HID device, remove external mouse, than run Hardware Problem Solving and 1 from 10 times it ends with fixing the driver for I2C HID and it works for a while. Than it crashes again.
I believe it's some kind of driver issue.

Can you help me please?

Hi all,

For the last 3 weeks my touchpad buttons stopped working. The pointer works well but the buttons are not clicking. This is probably a driver issue but all drivers are up to date and the buttons are enabled.

Please help.

I've had this computer for nearly 3 years now and it has served as a somewhat problem free laptop minus some problems with the ram and charger. This problem started after I got my laptop back from dell support after they replaced all the internal hardware, about 3 months ago.. They gave me a clean OS install, but installed windows 8 on it, because that was the original software that came with it. After arguing on the phone for about 2 hours with a stubborn technician, he finally agreed to install windows 10 for me. After going through some shady websites, he downloaded it onto a USB and everything installed. I later realised that the copy of windows was not genuine even though I had paid for everything. Pointing it out to the technician, He told me the certificate would activate later. It never happened and I ended up paying again for a product key.
A little while later, the synaptics touchpad driver kept crashing after reboots, and I realised that I would have to reboot my computer twice. This has been going on for about 3 months now. Then, two days ago, all of a sudden, my touchpad AND touchscreen stopped working. Nothing seems to fix it, even a full reboot (sometimes). Once it starts working for no apparent reason, it stops working again at random times. Times working range from 20 seconds to 5 minutes. I have the power switch set to hibernate and hibernating and waking it up seems to sometimes get the touchpad and touchscreen working, but it suddenly stops working lat... Read more

Hey, I have a Inspiron 15 3521 running windows 8.1 and touch screen just stopped working.  I tried updating drivers and downgrading drivers but no luck.  Tried Windows 10 but no change.  Tried adjusting power mgmt. settings and no change.  It seems like it is not detecting the touch screen and HID is hidden so no option it enable or disable.  Diagnostic does not see the device so does not attempt to run. There are tons of posts on this issue but I can't find any resolution.  Can anyone provide a fix?  A touch screen generally shouldn't just stop working and with all the issues I am thinking it is some sort of Dell or hardware issue?
Please help.

Hello people
I have a Dell Latitude E6410 running on Windows 7, I installed some windows updates and after that the cursor just froze, upon restarting the problem still persisted. Right now my touchpad is dead. I have uninstalled all the security updates of windows except for one because it is not uninstalling, I tried uninstalling the touchpad driver and re-installed different drivers but nothing seems to work here, I even tried the troubleshooter.
The Dell touchpad software detects the touchpad and even shows that it is ON.
In short I have tried all the methods posted on the forums online but I cannot find a solution. Please help me out here!
Thanks in advance!

For about two months now, the touchpad on my Dell Inspiron 1420 has not worked properly. The touchpad does not respond to touch (at all) nor do the buttons work. Additionally, the touchpad driver does not show up in ?Device Manager? at all. The files do still exist under ?Dell Drivers? though and the application can be found under ?programs?.

So far, I have:

-uninstalled and re-installed the touchpad driver (many times). If I remove all files and re-install the drivers, and reboot as instructed by the prompts; the touchpad will usually work until I put the computer to sleep or restart it. Then, once again, no response at all. The icon in the bottom right of the desktop also disappears, as does the driver in ?device manager?. The files still exist though in ?dell drivers? and under ?programs?.

-started the computer in safe mode. The touchpad works fine anytime I am in safe mode.

-disabled all programs (programs that had that option) that run on start up. I did this thinking that a start up program was controlling the touchpad since it starts fine in safe mode. The Alps driver (for the touchpad) that should appear under start up programs does not and I have never disabled it when it did show up. Stopping all programs that run at start up did nothing to fix the touchpad.

-I run AVG anti-virus software every day and have run Ad-Aware antispyware multiple times but this seems to have no effect on the touchpad problem.

Hi,
I am thinking that maybe that is a 64bit, if so then you are having a driver conflict, i suggest that you make sure you have the right drivers from the Dell website for your Laptop, or check you Even viewer logs to see what could be the cause of that problem.
If that isn't the problem, then lets us know...

I have my XPS 13 9360 for about half a year now (since November last year), but now the touchpad is starting to act up. I'm experiencing the following issues:
- From time to time it suddenly thinks I'm scrolling, even with a single finger on the touchpad, this is "unlocked" by left clicking the touchpad, but that often only works for a few seconds to minutes.
- Tap clicking is not registered anymore, almost always paired with the above issue.
I'm running Linux (Fedora 25, kernel 4.9.11 at the time of writing) since the beginning since I need it for my work.
I've ran the diagnostic accessed through F12, which found no error. I'm fairly positive at this point that it is a hardware issue, since it often happens when the laptop is under heavy load (though also during regular use) and a tiny bit of mechanical pressure on the laptop casing above the center of the touchpad fixes it.
The reason I'm trying the forums is because when I try to enter a support ticket it wants me to execute the Dell Diagnostic program, which I cannot do since I'm on linux, but I also cannot continue before doing that or having diagnostic data.
As I said above, at this point it seems like a hardware issue to me, but I'm open to suggestions.

P.S. I'm from the Netherlands, but I couldn't find a Dutch forum so here I am.

I was playing a video game on my laptop around 4:30, when the keyboard suddenly stopped working. The mouse still functioned, so I tried clicking around to see if it was just a problem with the game. Then at 4:32, the mouse stopped working, too. I decided to try turning it off, but neither holding nor pressing the power button worked, so I unplugged the laptop from the charger and left it to run out of power on it's own. At 4:35, the display froze. I know this, because up until then the clock was still working. Currently, the vent fan is still running, and the screen is frozen. No keyboard buttons work, and neither the built-in trackpad nor an HDMI mouse is working.  Is there anything I can do to fix this, or do I need to send it in?The laptop was a brand new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series, with Nvidia GeForce GTX and an Intel Core i7.

Hi,
I had my XPS 13 working fine on the TBS16 docking station, until the Dell update yesterday.
Now the network connection through the docking station is no longer working. In fact it does not even register the network adapter in device manager.
I have downloaded all the latest drivers for both TB16 and XPS 13, as well as the bios for the XPS 13 laptop, but no luck.

Are you referring to the Win 10 update which came out on Tuesday?
I just set up a TB16 yesterday with my 9365 and it seems to work OK so far..
If you are talking about a Windows update, there may be another one available from the catalog but I have not seen it on the normal Windows Update process.

The Dell support assist is just sitting on data transfer verification test after 17 minutes.
I cant download the Killer drivers as it tells me theyre not signed for the system.
it basically makes the laptop unusable on battery, which is one of the main points of having a laptop.

I bought the PC in July 2015 and it had to be returned to HP 3 times! Firstly the hard drive failed in autumn 2015 and was replaced. The keyboard was failing in june 2016 and was replaced. The touchpad was not working properly in July 2016 and was replaced. It is now conveniently for HP out of warranty after more than 1 year and is worse than ever. The cursor is constantly not responding to the touchpad touch and constantly disappears, it also jumps around the screen. The touchpad was replaced in July 2016 and still doesn't work. Occasionally the touchscreen will fail to respond to touch.

The touchscreen on my HP Pavilion 14-b141sa laptop stopped working yesterday morning. It was intermittently failing to register touch for a while but now it doesn't respond at all. It did this before a couple of years ago, but luckily I was able to fix it earlier this year thanks to a SoftPaq called SP63116. Now it has stopped working once again and SP63116 doesn't help when I run it. I tried all of the troubleshooting advice on this page, the official HP help page (short of fully reseting/restoring the system) but none of those solutions worked either. To be clear, I tried checking everything in device manager, hard reseting, reinstalling the touchscreen driver, installing all available updates, checking I had the latest BIOS and drivers (Couldn't do a component test; that option wasn't on my F2 start-up check anymore strangely...)And as I said, I tried SP63116 again but all it does, after going through the set-up screens, is flash up for a moment then disappear without doing anything. I'm suspecting because I used it once before/it's out of date. Any help? It's not the end of the world not to have a touchscreen but it is useful sometimes.(If it's at all relevant, the battery on the laptop is a bit old and is getting the message it needs replacing. I doubt that would be affecting it though)

Hey all, My Spectre's touch screen stopped working after trying to upgrade its firmware.I was looking for a newer firmware version to make the stylus work, but after running the software I got a red screen, it rebooted and never worked.I called HP support and they told me it is a hardware problem, however the hardware is detected correctly when I boot it with a Linux distro. Looks like it's a matter of having the correct firmware or driver to make it work again.I looked everywhere for a firmware update or a tool to diagnose it, but I had no luck.HP support here in Brazil says they can't do anything, even if I have a global coverage. I recently bought a Dell Precision 5510 with Ubuntu 14.04 factory installed.   When adding common packages to get the machine up and running for work the display eventually disappeared and the machine just booted to a black screen.  I then installed 16.04 but have issues with the sound, touchpad and external monitor.
1) Sound does not work at all.  No speakers or head phone jack.  Under settings/sound it says Dummy Output.
I've been through this whole page, and updated the kernal several times.
help.ubuntu.com/.../SoundTroubleshootingProcedure
It seems to find a soundcard.

2) The touchpad does not work at all, and I have to use an external mouse all the time.
3) When connected via the VGA adapter to some VGA projectors the external display is dropped after a few minutes.  It will come back with enough clicking around.  I've used these same projectors just fine with my old 12.04 machine.
This is all extremely frustrating.  Buying the machine with Ubuntu installed should mean it works with Linux.

I have tried going to acer's website for the driver for that model, it is not there. its like they stopped supporting it. help guys, i'm stuck. i need either that driver, a third-party touchscreen software, or something short of restoring it to earlier state.

A couple of days ago my Touchscreen stopped working. I went online to find solutions from the HP support site, but am unable to make progress. Perhaps I can get help here. I checked the Device Manager Human Interface section. There are only two devices listed. None have to do with the Touch Screen. Earlier I downloaded the Synaptics Touch Pad Driver (sp72088). This also did not resolve the isssue. I did a System Restore to an earlier time (01/10/2017). That also did not resolve the issue. Then I found the UEFI Hardware Diagnostic Test and did the specific Touchscreen  test. Oddly the Touchscreen worked through the test. I removed all the squares by touching them. So, what else can I do to get this function back? Thank you,Beverly2108

The touchscreen on my Inspiron 15 7000-series started to go black, 15 months after buying the laptop.  I don't watch movies or play games, or use the touchscreen-feature more than 1% of the time.  The servicer said it cannot be repaired and the entire screen (laptop cover) needs to be replaced by Dell. Is this a common experience -- that is, do touchscreens go bad just after the warranty expires?

My U920 has been goten worst every day, first it was the thouchscreen, then the cameras and finnally today the screen has stoped working.

The ribon attachment has problems, don't know if I'm the only one or if is a design problem, but the main problemhas been the total lack of support from Toshiba.

Amazing how bad can costumer service be....

A:Satellite U920T - display, touchscreen and camera has stopped working

I don?t understand why you are not satisfied with the consumer service but fact is that in case of hardware problems, you should always contact the local Toshiba authorized service provider which is available in your country.

How to now if it?s really an hardware problem or maybe just an software issue (corrupt system)?
There is a very simple method and workaround:
In most cases if you recover the notebook back to the factory settings, the software issues should be fixed the notebook should work properly.

In case the recovery does not solve the notebook problems, the notebook?s hardware might be affected. In such case (as already mentioned above) you will need additional help from notebook engineer.
