Preferred Solution: cannot enter bios from my system

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: cannot enter bios from my system

When you first turn on the machine-Press the Delete key until the BIOS appears.
Remember - changing BIOS settings can cause issues that may require a reset to the Default (opriginal) state of the machine.

Please provide us with the full spec's for your machine (motherboard, make and model of unit, etc.) This makes helping you so much easier.

You'll need to place a voice phone call to Dell support - have your ownership details ready along with a credit card to pay for the call -- a support call charge applies out of warranty, as this system certainly must be.

Hello! I am unable to get into bios or the boot options menu on an older machine. (Emachines T3304 desktop, phoenix award bios NAA21EM, FIC K8MC51G MB).

When attempting to enter the boot options menu (F10) or the bios (F2) all I get is a blank screen, no display. Will flashing the bios fix this issue? If so, how do I get the machine to boot from usb or from cd to complete the update with no access to the boot options?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello everyone!

I've made my Sony VAIO into a dual-boot machine (Win7 64-bit and Ubuntu Linux) and I'm having trouble getting into the BIOS.

When powering up, even though I repeatedly press and hold down the DEL key it always goes straight to the GRUB menu:

And then when I select to load Windows 7, I keep pressing DEL but it goes straight to Windows.

It doesn't seem to matter how fast I am on the keys - I can't get into the BIOS.

I have a should I be trying to enter the BIOS before getting to the GRUB menu, or after?

Also, (and this may be irrelevant) I've checked my registry to determine what kind of BIOS I have (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / HARDWARE / DESCRIPTION / System ), where I found that the SystemBiosVersion variable = Sony - 20110905 BIOS Date: 09/05/11 11:20:58 Ver: 04.06.03

(I would have thought the BIOS would be something like American Megatrends!)

Anyways... is there any way I can get into the BIOS from Windows, i.e. after Windows has loaded? Do I have to remove Linux from my computer? I hope not!

Thanks so much for your help and have a great day.

A:can't enter BIOS when booting (Win7 / Ubuntu Linux dual boot system)

Best to keep in mind that the BIOS is completely different from ANY operating system. There is no connection between the two things, other than the BIOS handing off control to an OS.

You press DEL (or whatever key enters the BIOS) before any operating system begins to start up.
You can start pressing the key repeatedly (once a second) just as soon as you hear the POST beep or see anything happen on the display screen.
Once you reach the Grub loader it is too late. Start over.

You can't get into the BIOS from an operating system. You can only shut down and/or restart.
Nothing in the operating system's registry has anything to do with your system's BIOS, other than communicating with it initially.

Hello all, I've been messing with and Googling this problem all day and am stumped. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My laptop:
Toshiba A105-S4134
XP SP2
MCE 2005
Intel T2400 Duo Core
2 GB RAM

1. Two days ago I had a glitch - a bunch of browser windows were open and the system just sort of froze up. I ended up doing a hard restart. The PC then took a longer than normal time to boot back up.

2. That made me nervous, so yesterday I made True Image images of both partitions on the HD, that is C: (OS and apps) and D: (data).

3. This morning I decided to run a memory diagnostic disk (I had memtest86+ and Windows Diagnostics CDs on hand). I set boot priority to CD/DVD ROM using Start > All Programs > Toshiba > Utilities > Toshiba Assist > Optimize > Toshiba Hardware Settings > Boot Priority

4. When I restarted the PC, I heard the CD Rom drive spin for a few seconds, but the screen stayed lack and didn't boot. After some time passed with no activity, I hit control/alt/delete a couple of times and XP then booted form the HD.

5. I unsuccessfully tried multiple times with three bootable CDs (that worked on another Toshiba laptop), including the Recovery and Apps disk that came with the laptop. Same result. I re-checked boot order a few times and the setting priority was still as I had set it.

6. I then found that I was unable to get into either safe mode or BIOS, or to get the PC to boot from the CD ROM during startup using any of F12, F8, F2... Read more

hello everybody here at B.C

As this topic mentions this is supposed to be a BIOS guide, not exactly tho....
I will write about what i have encountered and worked with when it comes to this motherboard in hope to expand this knowledge and hopefully finding a solution with a broader network.

As mentioned this is the ABIT AN8 Fatal1ty S939 Motherboard without the SLI = double PCI EXPRESS installed
Basically my old motherboard stopped functioning so i had to replace it with the Abit Fatal1ty, at first i was very pleased becouse i read alot of positive stuff about it, altho i dont really like too much advertising this motherboard looked promising.
A part of the horror that struck me was that i needed to install WinXp from start, there were reports of users who could simply do a repair of winxp so they wont loose any valuable data, but in my case i didnt have that option, my windows could not be saved. Since i had 3 HDD's i plugged in another one after backing it up from another pc, becouse i simply mistook it for the hdd that had winxo on it, anyway i thought to myself i could backup my winxp containing drive at a later state when i get winxp installed on the drive i just cleaned. I then instaled all the hardware where it belongs and booted up and put in the WinXp SP2 cd and ran thru the first part of the setup ( where the files get copied over to your hdd before the restart )
All went well and the pc gave me as usual a 15 second timline to restart or it would do it by its... Read more

A:Bios's ( Disk Boot Error Please Insert System Disk And Press Enter )

Simply put, the disk that you think that you are booting from, and the disk that you are booting from, are not the same. I did the same thing myself not too long ago. Pull out the other disks and install XP. Once it is working, then install the other hard drives. If you are sure that you are booting from the same drive on which XP is installed, then the disk is thrashed.
You said you took out a disk from another system and it booted fine. How about trying this? Take the disk out of your system that you think is the one with XP on it, and see if if it will boot the other machine?
This is no huge mystery. It can only be one of very few things.

Hey all,
my cousin dropped of her laptop (Acer aspire V5-571 series) with a problem.
when she booted up the PC it gave a message "Operating system not found", after a quick google search i found that if i boot from a USB installer and repair the PC, or go into bios and change the HDD location etc. I could fix it.
This is not the main problem, the main problem is i CANT get into the BIOS after everything i have tried and the only way i can fix this PC is if i enter the BIOS, anyone know either how to fix the OS not found without BIOS, OR, how to get into BIOS without windows.

I had a strange set of circumstances today. I was trying to update my memory from 2 to 4g. My system would not boot with the new memory and the bios gave 3 beeps. After removing the new memory, the system would boot to XP but I had no video. I powered down and powered back up. I now had video but the system would hang. In Safe Mode, it would hang after the following entry system32/config/system. Note I never observed any windows error messages, just the hang.

I used the Recovery Console from an XP CD and did a chkdsk /r and chdsk /f
I also ran fixboot

None of these solved the problem.

I then ran fixmbr
Recovery Console displayed some kind of caution message that I had a "invalid" or something MBR and that it might prevent me from access partitions or something.

Well, I ran fixmbr anyway since i was out if ideas.

Now when I try to boot, it is freezing during the post process. When I hit F2 to enter the BIOS setup, it says "entering setup" but it never does. It seems to be hanging right after the drive detect process.
Note I have one standard IDE drive © and 2 SATA drives. Windows XP is installed on one of the SATA drives.

Any ideas? Let me know if you need any more info.

A:BIOS Hang, unable to enter BIOS Setup after running FIXMBR

This sounds more like a BIOS = hardware issue. Since you have been inside the case it is possible something got nudged loose. Re-seat your memory and video card if it is an add-on.

My laptop has no problem before. Recently I try to install Windows XP. First attempt fail, so I change SATA at BIOS from AHCI to Compatible, success. However the partition that I want to install*Windows XP to is not available.*

So just to test I choose my Windows 7 partition. Since it want to format the partition, I cancel the installation. After restarting windows, it stuck at bios. I restart again and change SAT to AHCI. Restart, still stuck at bios. This time I cannot enter BIOS, recovery or change boot media. Assuming the boot sector has corrupt, will reseating the cmos battery will fix this *problem. Please help. Thanks in advance.*

A:Windows 7 Stuck At BIOS Cannot Enter BIOS or Change Boot Media

Somehow with guidance from Lenovo Community, I solved the problem.

For future reference:
1. Take out HDD, battery, plug off ac power.
2. Restart, change SATA Controller in BIOS to compatible, restart.
3. Check whether the SATA Controller is Compatible or AHCI. If Compatible, force shutdown laptop.
4. Put back HDD, boot with Windows 7 Recovery CD or Installation Disc.
5. Choose Autostartup Repair.
6. Restart.

Hi Guys
I restored an image created with Macrium Reflect on my wife's computer (Custom build with Asus P8Z77-V LX mother board) and everything went fine until rebooting when i got to the "Please press DEL or F2 to enter UEFI BIOS settings" then everything stopped.
I have tried F2 DEL F8 F12 just about all the F combinations and nothing works, I have two SSD drives one with Win7 Pro and one with Win10 Pro (not connected at the same time) and neither of them will boot up.
I have tried changing the jumper pins from 1 and 2 to 2 and 3 for 10 sec to clear the RTC Ram in CMOS then returned then to 1 and 2 and tried rebooting...no change so i removed the battery and repeated the jumper pin swap then reinstalled the battery and still no change, cannot get passed press DEL or F2 to access the BIOS settings.
I even downloaded the latest BIOS and updater as shown and put them on a USB flash drive together and tried the Macrium Rescue disk, and still nothing happened and it will not open the BIOS maybe i got it all wrong ?
I was hoping someone here might know how to put it right, i am out of idea's and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, i have a really annoying problem: Everytime i start my laptop, it wont boot up. The capslock button is blinking twice so i guess the bios is damaged. First i checked if there is a update for my bios on you driver/software download page but there isnt. So afterward i tried to recover and reinstall my bios but i cant even enter the bios update menu.In the bios recovery manual http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833 it says:With the computer off, press and hold the Windows logo key and the B key at the same time.Still pressing those keys, press and hold down the Power button on the computer for 1 to 2 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows and B keys until the BIOS update screen is displayed or until you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps). But this isnt working. It only blinks twice continiously but wont boot. Can anyone help me? I cant find further information regarding this issue. I start to get really really annoyed by the problem because sometimes it takes up to 15-20 times to get the laptop running. Best Regards

An hour ago I was on my computer playing World of Warcraft when my computer froze. I tried rebooting it, but it said in all caps, "DISK BOOT FAILURE, ENTER SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER." So I tried entering my windows vista reinstallation CD, and it asked me to reinstall windows so I shut down the computer and took out the CD. Than I tried unplugging everything, replugging it, changing voltage, and changing it back. I tried changing booting priority to hard-drive as first, but than the boot disk failure was gone, and a blue screen popped up and restarted the computer real fast. I tried setting CD to boot priority one, and I tried reinstalling windows, but when it said "Click any key to boot from CD" and I pressed a key, it said that windows is collecting files from the CD, and the screen went black with a white cursor only showing. When I take out the CD and restart the computer, the boot disk failure thing comes up.

Computer: Velocity ProMagix E2230

I also stink at computers, so I wont understand a few computer terms. And no, I haven't put any new hard drive into the computer, but I reinstalled windows a few weeks ago when Windows was messed up.

Hi

Your Hard drive has gone to silicon heaven, thats why you got the boot disk error and why windows wont reload.

If your unsure about anything computer wise, take it to a qualified person, never mess with things you dont have a basic understanding off.

I have the exact same issue with the lenovo helix 37xx (3701-33G, 1st generation model). I tried to unplug the battery and discharge by holding down the power button for 20 sec, then replugged the battery and still get a blank screen with a frozen cursor in the top left corner of the screen.

Did not try to remove the hard drive, because it wasn't obvious where it is. Also, this tablet pc has and SSD, but I'm not sure if its integrated or removable.

Any other ideas?

Also worth noting, the screen brightness is stuck on max and not adjustable in windows. Also, oddly, when the ac adaptor is NOT plugged in the screen in on max brightness, and dims when I plug the ac adaptor in (should be the other way around).

Last thing to mention, is that after these issues, I have tried to roll back the bios (I think its v1.43 currently) to the most recent previous version (I think 1.42, not sure of the exact number, but rolled back 1 point). When I tried the computer froze after it restarted to flash the bios as part of the installer. After waiting >40min, I decided to hard reset, and luckly the computer booted (ie, I dont think bios started the flash process), but still has the issues above

Ive been gradually morphing the system in my sig for about a year and recently decided to tweak the oc up alittle more after getting a top notch heat sink.

1st boot after changing sink reported Windows file missing so just for the hell of it I entered BIOS and relaxed RAM settings on a hunch and it booted fine.

Everything runs fine, including a 6*C drop in load temps (thats another 6* of clocking then ;] )

EXCEPT: hitting del during startup no longer enters BIOS, it goes straight through to windows.

I have a USB keyboard which I suspect, however I was in the BIOS only 4 hours ago with this kb to change the RAM timings after the 1st unsuccessful boot.

All ive done since the refit is zipped a few big files to check load temps, surfed a bit and gamed for half an hour. At no point did temps rise above 45*C.

Odd...

Hello Everyone!

My first post on these forums, I am looking for help with a specific problem. I have a Lenovo G40-30 laptop which does not boot up the BIOS. Pressing the BIOS button on the laptop and selecting the BIOS gives me a black screen with a still cursor in the top left hand corner. The only part of the BIOS I am able to enter is the boot selection.

I have Windows 8 running on the laptop, but I occassionally get a BSOD which is why I have been wanting to enter the BIOS and format everything and get a fresh, clean install.

My question is how can I reset the BIOS? I am unable to reset the CMOS battery because it is soldered onto the motherboard, unless taking it apart and re-soldering will reset it?

I am looking for any ideas/solutions to my problem.

Many thanks!

A:G40-30 - Can't enter BIOS?!

Hi Akuto ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Depending on the model of your machine, initially best way to start is to perform power drain.

Turn off the pc and remove the battery and unplug the ac adapter charger .
Press down the power button down for 15 seconds.
If possible to remove the harddrive to prevent fast boot .

Place back the battery and charger.
Turn it back on using the Lenovo button and choose BIOS set up .
F9 should load defaults and F10 to save and exit.
Any BSOD  without the harddrive?

Turn it back off and place back the harddrive .
Start back with the same Novo button for the BIOS set up and check if the harddrive is detected  and restart .

It would be helpful to have the model and machine number so that we can check further but you may also refer to the user guide and hardware manual downloadable from the support site.
It would indicate the same process for a Factory reset  for your machine accessible thru the same Novo Button.

System Recovery will delete everything on the PC and reimage it back the way it was from out of the box .
One Key Recovery from Inittial backup is the hidden factory partition on the same harddrive.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Can't get into bios. 'puter will start up... Hang at "hit del to enter setup"....then I get 2 short beeps pause and 1 beep. It show CMOS checksum error and CMOS Display error. I then get .....Press F1 to enter set up .......Press F2 to continue. have check AMI and it says it's a memory problem. Have tried moving CMOS jumper....Have tried removing CMSO battery(overnight).... It comes up the same way...Not sure what I'm doing..
I don't know what the psu is... no lable where it can be read...
Just put in an FIC SD11 mobo. Have checked all cables, and memory sticks. Have tried with only HD and Video card... keyboard isn't reconized. When I try to tap del or F1..F2 nothing happens. Lights on drives light up... except small floppy. Computer was working before changing mobo.
:giddy:
Thank you for any help you can give or direct me in any direction.

Hi...
PSU stands for Power Supply Unit.

if AMI says its memory... go ahead and try anothe memory module (if you have one) to see if you still have the problem...

if you do... then it could be dead CMOS...

This is not the first problem i have with this model. I never had som manny problem with a laptop since i got this trash computer. Yesterday i could enter bios by hitting Fn + F2, but now it wont no matter what i do. The thing with lenovo computers is that i think its the old IBM that changed the name. And the most wired thing is that the hardware and software never works 100 %. My problem accured after updating to lastest Windows 10. Please someone help me cause i know that Lonovo wont. I simply just need to change some setting so install new windows from USB

Hi, I have a custom pc, and I am trying to turn of the automatic fan control (so I can use speedfan to control the fan speeds). to do this, I need to enter the BIOS, but I cant.

when I boot, my pc tells me to press DEL to enter bios, and I do, and... nothing

cue 10 , minutes restarting and mashing the hell out of my keyboard. still nothing.

I dont have a fn key to press, its a standard keyboard, no special bios, just the standard asus bootscreen.

any help?!?

Hello SF, me back again.

I have this problem for a while. The problem is next:

On my laptop, with Win7 Ultimate, I can't enter into BIOS. Simply, there is no Del - Bios text or anything like that... I don't know why is this happening. I can only use F8 to enter into Safe Mode.

Laptop model Asus K55VJ.

Thanks, StalkeR.
