Preferred Solution: Spyware changed my proxy settings now my global settings are messed up

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello hello!
Well i'm guessing like most spyware attacks, I dont really know what happened!
Suddenly a load of pop-ups, and then everything I tried to open said it couldn't be opened as it was infected, and firefox said the proxy settings are incorrect.. so i've restarted into safemode with networking and changed my proxy settings to not using a proxy so my firefox is able to load up webpages.. (internet explorer isn't though)

I've downloaded GMER.EXE like it's written, but i've hit a speed bump before the programs even loaded..
it says "C:\windows\system32\config\system: The system cannot find the file specified"

I have found a path similar, in c:\windows\system\config\system

i've attached the logs from that DDS program..

Not really sure what else to do at the minute!
Thanks a lot in advance!

Here's the DDS.txt log

This morning I found myself unable to access any https sites. I tracked the problem down to the fact that somehow my network settings had been changed to connect via a proxy. Once I deselected this option, I was able to connect again without any problems. I have been advised by the technical support desk at my ISP that this is often caused by malware, and that it means that the offenders can potentially skim important log-in information. I have done a series of scans, but I am unable to tell if the results show anything significant or not.

I have run full scans using Malwarebytes, Microsoft Security Essentials, Hitman Pro and ADWCleaner.

Malwarebytes reported no malware but one PUP - PUP.Optional.Spigot

Microsoft Security Essentials and Hitman Pro reported no threats.

The ADWCleaner log is posted below.

Is anyone able to tell me if I am likely to have been compromised in any way, and if there is any further action I should take?

I run Windows 7 64 Home Premium. My security setup is Malwarebytes Home Premium, Microsoft Security Essentials, Hitman Pro (paid version), Windows Firewall.

Hello everyone,

I have this problem for a week now: my proxy settings in Internet Explorer/Chrome keep being changed to HTTP: 127.0.0.1 Port 38365, with the following exceptions ; *origin.com; *ea.com; *akamaihd.net. Thus i have no access with these browsers as they try to use a non existent proxy. Firefox is fine though, I am currently using it to write this.

When I change this settings, as soon as I close the parameter window they are switched back to their previous state. I did notice in the register the following keys

ProxyOverride REG_SZ <local>;*origin.com;*ea.com;*akamaihd.net
ProxyServer    REG_SZ http=127.0.0.1:38365

I know that the problem is the same as several other users:

However I did not find in these threads an answer to my issue.

I would appreciate any help!

Hello all,

I would very much appreciate an answer to ease my anxiety. To be able to watch a basketball game on a foreign tv channel on-line, I was advised (on a fan forum) to connect to some member's computer since the tv site only allowed people who lived in that country to connect to the site and observe the game. I normally use Firefox but the directions were for Internet Explorer. I connected ("use a Proxy server for your lan" - entered the given address and port numbers), watched the game and ... forgot to change the LAN settings back to what they previously were. In fact, I turned off the internet explorer and was using firefox for 1.5 days before I remembered to change the settings on IE. I have a wireless connection and it was on all this time. My question is: could this member whose proxy I was using (or anyone else) access the content of my computer? If so, is there a way to check? Should I worry about viruses? I have a firewall etc. Thank you very much for your help!

Hi, I have been struggling with this issue for the past two days. I do not want to reset my computer. Ever since two days ago, my internet browsers (google chrome and IE- which I never use) have been nonfunctional. It says "unable to connect to the proxy server" and when I tried unchecking the box and hitting "OK", it automatically reselects the box.

I have tried running several anti-malware devices such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and AdwareCleaner. MBAM has given me a lot of PUP.optionals that I have quarantined, however; when I run AdwareCleaner it shows that YTDownloader and OneSoftPerDay, etc. has been detected and deleted, but after the restart it still shows they are there if I run Adwcleaner.

Please help.

I have been having numerous problems with this machine (and another desktop). Something keeps changing my Internet options to "use proxy server" In the Options tool menu. I am also getting script error warnings now on IE. I had to make IE my default browser today because I couldn't see some of the buttons on the forum pages that I follow. I.E. "comment", "quote" etc. while having Firefox set as my default browser. I usually use Firefox. I had problems last week and Mozilla recommended a "beta" version 34 but that didn't fix the issues. I also paid for and activated Malwarebytes Pro and it found problems on multiple scans on this machine after restarts.

I just installed a brand new hard drive in the problematic desktop too.

Running IE 11.

Can't even find the search window in IE 11 (it's MIA). Can't set my default search engine which has always been Google.

Firefox, Steam, Filezilla, Skype all work.
IE, Chrome, Evernote and others all dont.

Windows Network Diagnostic tool says:
Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings

Chrome Says:
Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error.

Its not a virus or malware, its likely because i removed registry keys related to old web filtering software.

In the Internet Options settings it is set to automatically detect settings and no proxy server is set.

Please help and thanks.

Our current Windows 8/IE10 tablets apply a group policy which sets up the IE proxy configuration and prevents users from changing that configuration.
This is done using the settings "Prevent changing proxy settings" and "Disable changing automatic configuration settings" (located at computer configuration\administrative templates\windows components\internet explorer).
With Windows 8.1/IE11, the proxy server settings are still greyed out in the LAN settings dialog box under Internet Options\Connections in the desktop IE environment.
However in 8.1 the proxy settings can also be accessed from the Settings charm: Settings - Change PC Settings - Network - Proxy.  From this location, ordinary users can modify and save changes to the proxy configuration.
Is there any way to lock this down?

A:Locking down IE proxy settings under PC Settings\Network\Proxy on Windows 8.1

Update on this - a very helpful Microsoft engineer came back with a workaround which, while not ideal, is a lot better than letting users change their proxy settings.
When I said I was going to post it here, the engineer said to make sure I started with the statement that Binary registry keys as used in this solution shouldn't generally be messed about with, and that editing the registry without first backing it up may
also lead to plagues of locusts, etc.  All the usual disclaimers, so use this at your own risk.
His solution, which we've tested, involves switching from per-user proxy settings to per-machine proxy settings.
The Microsoft workaround word for word is:
The first thing we need to do is to export the following registry key from a machine that has the correct proxy settings set.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections
This contains the following 2 binary registry keys which have the connections settings: ?DefaultConnectionSettings? and ?SavedLegacySettings?
The next step is to open the newly exported .reg file and to change the path:
From: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections
To: HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections
For a test on a single machine you can manually change this, from elevated cmd: regedit <file>.reg
For a bigger scale you can create a script to deploy the... Read more

There is a software which often changes the proxy settings so I decided to config the internet settings registry right to reject the proxy settings. But When I decided to delete this software and return the rights back, I suddenly found that I can not change
the proxy settings manually!
The detail is that I change the auto proxy url, to let my pc use a pac file and I don't want any softwares to change. However, when I decided to give the rights back and try to change the url back, it never success, and even the same when i'm sure I have
cleared this url in the whole registry, but it back, as it never changes!
I check the registry rights twice or more to make sure that the rights has given back, just like it originally should be. But it never works.
So the result is I have to clear and reinstall the WINDOWS 10 AGAIN!
Never should you save such information both in registry and somewhere I don't know! Or you should let these stuffs out of the ** registry!

3- Certain settings Did change like the 'no active audio mixers available' problem , i searched the Internet for this problem and i found the solution using services.msg , i turned it to automatic but after i restart it turns back to the way it is . somebody mind helping?D:~i think i did the right thing this time already><Hello siqilee,We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The reason we ask this or do not respond to your requests is because that would remove you from the active queue that Techs and Staff have access to. The malware staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. That is why I have made an edit to your last post, instead of a reply. Please do not multiple post here, as that only pushes you further down the queue and causes confusion to the staff. Please be patient. Can anyone explain to me how I can change the layout globally in Outlook 2003 so that all views when looking at emails automatically display the sent date as well as the received date.
I have a number of emails that I have sent and I keep a copy straight from my sent items folder rather than cc ing it to myself.

After importing the files to 2003 from 2000 they are all listed at the bottom with no date. I have worked out how the change the view and add the sent date but this only seems to do it for each folder I have open at the time so to save me a mamoth amount of time could someone please tell me how to change the global option so it automatically changes all the folders containing emails.

Thanks,

Tim

I have a few laptops that I'm working on in a professional capacity, and I am stymied by the situation, which is...

The laptops have not successfully checked for updates in over 12 months. In my experience, if a computer on Windows 7 64 (unsure about 32) has not had an update check for over 6 months, it can take hours upon hours to do a successful check for updates. During that time, svchost.exe uses 100% of a CPU core, and a varying but large chunk of RAM, maybe 30MB to 150MB. I could be wrong, but I believe the only way to overcome this is to wait. All these laptops have 2GB RAM.

The laptop is on Windows 7 Professional, and is installed to a domain. I am logged in as the domain administrator and have tried logging in as the local administrator (account enabled via the command "net user administrator /active:yes"). Where the laptops are at the moment, the domain controller is not present (and besides, I'm a stand-alone PC fixer-upper, not much server experience). They are each set with a global power setting that puts the laptop to sleep after 2 hrs. All power plans, including newly created plans, are stuck and cannot have their power setting changed. I've tried GPEdit.msc and I have tried powercfg command prompt. GPEdit has no affect (does it need the server present to work?) and powercfg says permission denied (even in cmd prompt as administrator).

I have read somewhere that I need to install Remote Server Administration Tools, to make adjustments to ... Read more

This affects my system proxy settings in PC Settings - Networ - Proxy - Use Automatic Configuration Script (ON) - Acript Address http://wpad.com.gr/proxy.pac.

I have used TDSKill and it deleted a file "router.exe" from my windows folder. And Adware Cleaner removed some registry entries alongside some folder in Chrome that has something like "\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Storage\https_static.olark.com"

Then after resetting my settings and manually turning off Automatic Configuration Script in PC Settings, everything was fine and my google searches were back to 2015. A day later it changed, I scanned with Adware cleaner and it found same stuffs, I cleaned, And it;s back again.

When I go to change the proxy settings it has it saved to "<-loopback>" and

Whenever I try to change it, it doesn't save.  And it is

Please do the following.  Please download and run RKill RKill is an easy to use tool that kills known processes and removes Windows Registry entries that stop a user from using their normal security applications.  These settings will remain until the computer is rebooted, for this reason you must run the security application before the computer is rebooted.   Please download RKill and install it. When RKill is run it will display a console screen similar to the one below:  When RKill has finished running a log will be displayed showing all of the processes that were terminated by RKill. Attention:  At this time you need to run the software posted below. While RKill is running you may see a message from the malware stating that the program could not be run because it is a virus or is infected.  This is the malware trying to protect itself.  Two methods that you can try to get past this and allow RKill to run are: 1)  Rename Rkill so that it has a .com extension. 2)  Download a version that is already renamed as files that are commonly white-listed by malware. The main Rkill download page contains individual links to renamed versions.   After all of the scans have run successfully you should reboot the computer to restore the processes and Windows Registry entries.   Please run Malwarebytes AntiMalware Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.  After cli... First - I've already sought help at SmartFTP's forums for this and the developers chose to ignore the problem their installer caused on my system. But this is a global problem in Vista now, it affects a lot more than SmartFTP, which is why I came here.
I very actively use FTP and connect to about 20 sites over 5 or 6 hosts.
Beginning immediately after installing SmartFTP 3, and now, get the ""No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it." message on any and all connect attempts.
FileZilla is also giving me error messages, and the basic Windows command line FTP program is the only one that even lets me connect and log in to my sites. However, upon login, I'll try to do a simple dir command and get a timeout. What's even more strange is that if I do a basic command like a directory change, that is successful.
Also, programs give me errors when they try to perform some FTP-based function, such as Ad-Aware trying to connect to the update server.

This problem began immediately after I installed the latest version of SmartFTP on my Vista machine. I noticed during the installation that it listed some other active programs as sharing files that would need to be updated in the installation. These included Thunderbird, a couple of other Internet based programs, and Windows Explorer itself. The latter I found very odd.

After all this happened, I tried uninstalling Smart FTP and was told that I would need to restart before the installat... Read more

Hi everyone,

I'm having some issues with Adobe Flash. In the Global Storage Settings it gives me the option to disable flash content, set the storage to none, etc. However whenever I close my browser this resets back to its default settings. Can anyone figure out how to fix this? It cannot be a virus or malware as I've scanned my computer with multiple scanners. I have also tried changing the Flash Settings with my extensions disabled - because it could have being Adblock, but it doesn't seem to be that either.

Ideas anyone?
Thanks

Ok, wow this is gonna suck to explain, but bare with me. Ok, now I go to www.soundclick.com alot, and you have to stream songs to listen, now it used to work, but then I installed A-Squared Guard, and Outpost Firewall.

And I didn't stream for awhile, and I tried to stream and it's all messed up, I get an error message that says "the server is not responding" I e-mailed their support, and they said it would be a problem on my computer.

I clicked the message from Windows Media Player, that said "More Information" and it said I might have a problem with my proxy settings, did the firewall mess it up? Or it said "I might not be connected to the internet" i'm using 56k dial up, and i'm clearly connected or I wouldn't be able to post this..

Please help, I need to stream, thanks.

When a user tries to set the new proxy settings and presses ok when they go back and double check, the old settings are still there. An administrator has to log in and change the settings so they can stay for another couple of days.

You could check the proxy settings for IE under Internet Options\Connections\Lan Settings. If you don't have a proxy server that you use, uncheck the "Use proxy server for your LAN..." checkbox. You can also uncheck all of the checkboxes that either auto detect the proxy, or use automatic configuration script; these would speed up starting up IE, since it doesn't have to look for the proxy server.

There are so many issues about Norton, that's why I didn't buy it.

Well, I'm not very sure if Norton is the cause of this.. I guess it's a firewall who's causing this... When you turned off or disabled Norton, does this problem happens?

At the first place, I don't know anything about Norton, because, I don't have Norton, that's why the only thing I can suggest to you is to uninstall Norton and install AVG7, or Avast!, that's only my opinion.
