Function Keys keep defaulting to Hot-Keys after switching on Yoga 920

Q: Function Keys keep defaulting to Hot-Keys after switching on Yoga 920

Whenever I change the Function Keys setting to use F1-F12 (via Lenovo Vantage), after a few reboots the setting changes back to using the Hot-Keys instead. Why? And what can I do to stop this from happening?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It seems to happen when I leave my computer shut for a period of time. Nothing has been installed or changed since this has been happening, but I have been able to revert it back in the UEFI of my computer. Does anyone know why this is happening? This is super frustrating. This is the third time this has happened in the last day. And yes, I do save the settings within the UEFI menu but it obviously isn't lasting.

Dear Lenovo, How can I have both Esc and function keys work normally in Yoga 700? That is, as in any normal computer keyboard where Esc is Esc, and F1 is F1, etc. If I set 'hot key' mode in bios then Esc is normal, but function keys act as hot keys.If I set 'function key' mode in bios then function keys are normal, but Esc is paper display toggle. I don't think it's too much to ask. Best regards.

Hi, Try the following. Download the AMD HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74501-75000/sp74716.exe When done, open your Downloads folder, right click the AMD Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Hello all, my function keys have stopped working completely. I tried following the keyboard troubleshooting guide where it says to look for a HOT KEYS driver on hp.com, the problem is that this driver is not avaible for my device. Also, I tried googling it and download this hot keys driver for windows 10 and when I try to install it, it just says it's not compatible with my device. Don't know what else to do.

Just got a new Yoga 910. One thing is driving me crazy -- it appears the function keys by default require pressing the Fn button. I don't use the alternate things like airplane mode and speaker volume as much and would prefer to have function keys primary and then press fn keys for the quick keys. There is mention of reversing the fn key in the bios, but under configuration I have no hotkey option. I'm running bios 2JCN39WW which appears to be the latest. How do I switch the hotkey / function key priority so I can use F4 and F2 without holding the fn button?

When I press the F3 key, I need the Yoga 920 to interpret this as "F3" and not "Increase sound volume." In the past, certain Lenovo notebooks had a BIOS setting that let you reconfigure the function keys to do just that. I don't believe the Yoga 920 has this BIOS setting (why don't all Yoga models have a similar BIOS structure is beyond me). I have an excellent Microsoft external keyboard that allows you to lock the function key, simply by pressing "Fn" (a small light turns on in the "Fn" key, similar to the "CapsLk" key.) Any suggestions? It can't be this difficult, can it?

It's not. The setting is in Lenovo Vantage. Launch Vantage and navigate to Hardware Settings > Input

Normally I have to hold down the fn key and then a function key in order to do something. For example I need to hold fn and then click F1 if I want to mute the sound. Today all of a sudden, I did not have to hold down the fn key anymore. This means that the ways fn and the function keys interact have switched. I was wondering why this would have happened out of nowhere and if I should be worried? I have looked all over and I definitely have not accessed the BIOS and fn+esc just changes the screen to paper display. How could I have changed the way fn and the function keys have been working?

Hi ab001atl ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

When hotkey mode is disabled, press the Fn key and the appropriate hotkey to access the corresponding hotkey function. (page5)

By default, the hotkey functions are accessible by pressing the appropriate hotkey. However, you can disable the hotkey mode in the BIOS setup utility. To disable the hotkey mode:
1 Shut down the computer.
2 Press the Novo button and then select BIOS Setup.
3 In the BIOS setup utility, open the Configuration menu, and change the setting of HotKey Mode from Enabled to Disabled.
4 Open the Exit menu, and select Exit Saving Changes.

Context menu provided with right click mouse have corresponding key on traditional keyboards in between the right alt and ctrl keys (may not be available for the yoga due to design) as shift +F10 .

Else onscreen keyboard may help or simply use a key remapping software to assign the task of right click to another key such as this and this.

Update us how it would work for you.

Regards

If I do not use my "mute" key, the other two increase and decrease volume keys work perfectly fine. Muting my laptop using the volume slider in the Windows toolbar has the same effect.  Thank you

Touchpad is working only intermittently. Under Human Interface Devices, I have 2 entries for 12C HID Device. When the pad stops working, one will have a ! in a triangle with a code 10 error. I can uninstall, hard shut down (note: restart does nothing. Hard shut down is required) and have the touchpad back, usually throughout startup. It will disappear again just after startup. Rinse, repeat four or five times, and it will work for maybe a couple of hours. I've removed everything from Startup. I've updated using Lenovo Vantage and Windows Update. I am at the point of considering a factory reset, but I'd rather not do that if anyone has a suggestion? I've been dealing with this about two weeks. Not sure if it was in conjunction with a Windows Update, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised. Note: If I uninstall both 12C HID Device entries, rather than uninstalling the second entry, the first reappears with the warning sign.

Nothing happens when I press the buttons. I'm running Windows 10 Home, version 1709, OS Build 16299.125. Maybe someone can help me in restoring the functions of those buttons? And additionally, maybe add a UI prompt for F6 (touchpad)?

Hello,I'm in dire need of help. I have a Yoga 900-13isk that is running Windows 10 and it will not let me get into the boot or BIOS screen so I can repair or reset my failed Windows 10 rest. This occured the other day when I tried to complete a Windows 10 reset and it failed halfway through - it just hung on a black screen. Is there a way to completely disable the HotKey setting?  I always need access to my F1-F12 keys without having to hit the function button first.  I know how to go into settings and turn on the F1-F12 function, but I was wondering if there is a way to disable the HotKeys altogether.  Every time I shutdown or restart my computer, the F1-F12 setting automatically goes back to the HotKey setting, thus, causing me to go in and change it every time.  Thanks!

So I changed the shortcut back to none in the properties dialog and F11 still tries to open the afore-mentioned application. Is there somewhere else other than rt-click-properties-shortcut key that I need to change it so that I can have the nifty hotkeys too? Or do I just need to have the creator assign a different enable key for mine?

Why have the function keys been disabled in Windows 7? I know from other threads and tutorials thatthere are ways of getting atthe functions (though not if your laptop is on the old side - my Toshiba Portege can't access the option to show both a display on its screen and a video projector for example). But even a simple things like rename and help, which many programs access via F2 and F1, now don't work.

Seems silly to disable these useful functions.

A:Function keys (again)

They aren't "disabled", you need to install the drivers for your laptop that tell windows what the function keys do.

Not sure how to explain this abstractly, so I will give an example. If I press the F12 key by itself, it turns off the wireless connection. If I want to actually input "F12," I have to enter fn-F12. What's the procedure for reversing this? I.e., I want to have to enter fn-F12 to turn off the wireless, etc. Isn't there a way to do this in the control panel of Windows 8?

A:Function keys and F1, F2, F3, etc.

It probably depends on the make of computer (presumably a laptop?).

There may be a utility provided by the laptop manufacturer, or you may need to get into the machine's BIOS or UEFI settings to change it.
