Rebate informer/giant

Q: Rebate informer/giant

I have had a virus installed on my computer called rebate giant. It has 2 files on my desktop (one called rebate informer and one called rebate giant). I know how to remove files through the registry editor and was wondering if anyone had the file paths for me to manually remove it??

Preferred Solution: Rebate informer/giant

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Rebate informer/giant

I don't think rebate informer/rebate giant qualifies as a virus. It looks as though it installs an Inbox.com toolbar and some desktop shortcuts. Uninstall the applications, and the toolbar, and delete the shortcuts if they are left behind.

There are no files in the registry, but there are references to files. Be mindful of travels in the registry.

First of all, please do not use capitals. It could be misunderstood as shouting.

How are you trying to remove the program, and from where? Is it available to uninstall from in Programs and Features? From typing msconfig in the start menu, opening that up, and going to the startup tab, does it show the program there?

Help.  I purchased this notebook computer last year from Staples.  There was a $50 rebate on this computer.  I submitted the necessary paperwork the next day.  When I did not receive the rebate, I contacted Staples and was told that I would have to contact HP.  When I checked my rebate submission thru HP online it stated that there was a problem and that I would be notified by mail.  I never received either the rebate nor the problem notification by mail.  The tracking info is BLJH-2296-2083.  There was a problem with my  rebate submission but yet I just received an email from you that my warranty for this computer is about to expire.  Please contact me ASAP about this issue.  It would be nice to have a phone number to contact somebody but I could not find one.

A:Software Informer

AdwCleaner usually will remove third party software of this nature.
Please download AdwCleaner and run it.
An image like the one below will open, click on Scan.

Once the search is complete a list of the pending items will be displayed.  If you see any which you do not want removed, remove the check mark next to it.
Click on Clean to remove the selected items.
You will receive a message telling you that all programs will be close so that the infections can be removed.  Click on Ok.
When cleaning process is complete a log of what was removed will be presented.  Please copy and the paste this log in your next post.

Would appreciate your advice on using Softwareinformer as a tool to automatically scan for available new drivers and updates for all software installed on my computer. I downloaded the free utility at http://drivers.informer.com/. After this utility scanned my installed programs on my computer, it came back with a customized list of drivers and software updates that are available through their website. Can I trust that these drivers are as good as going one by one to my device manufacturers to search for driver updates?

Thanks in advance for your opinion.

A:Software Informer

I'm not familiar with the program, but....
Generally, drivers should be left alone unless there is some issue with some driver.
Updating drivers in bunches is asking for a disaster, because if something goes wrong you'll have no idea, which installation caused the issue.

If it ain't broken......

Back in Nov. I purchased a Plextor PX 712 DVD drive. There was a $30 rebate so I got the rebate form and sent it off. Two days later I realized that I hadn't written in the SN. of the drive,so I made a copy of my copy of the rebate form, wrote in the SN , and wrote a short note explaining what happened. The first form had the UPC code attached and the second form only had a scanned copy. After about 8 weeks I received a post card saying that the form didn't have the UPC attached. Well of course there was no mention of the original form with the UPC code attached. I know that it was a mistake on my part ,but I feel they are playing dirty ,and taking advantage of the situation. So my friends be careful if you want your rebates.

Hi,  I earned a Rebate from CyberScholar towards $200.00 on a HP purchase. The Computer Rebate Form number is 587C065E11A4. I sent my Rebate with the correct address to mail the Rebate Check.  My address had a #34 unit number.  The Rebate team mailed my Rebate check on 7/18, and forgot to put the Street number on the check. I called and the person told me that they would send a new Rebate Check out 8/23, this does not appear in the CyberScholar area that you put in to track your rebate, while the first one did show. Today's date is 9/10/2016.  I do not think that they resent the Rebate check.  Thank you!

Does anyone know of any good sites out there which offers free software (or almost free) and even hardware after sending in a mail in rebate? I used to patronize CyberRebates, but they went down under like so many other dot coms.

I know that CompUSA often offers free software, CD-Rs, and even hardware after a rebate. I bought a digital camera from them for only $10 after the rebate. Many times CD-ROMs for free. But they don't do this all the time.

I was wondering if there's any good & reputable web sites which has such connections to utilize these rebates.

I'm one of those suckers that bought Zone Alarm with a promise of a rebate and can't get the company to pony up the $$. They actually sent multiple emails confirming the rebate is coming/was sent, but nothing actually arrived. The company refuses to discuss rebate issues, saying they have outsourced that problem. However, the outsource company doesn't answer their phone lines.

I filed a complaint with the California Attorney General and BBB in Oakland. Zone Labs needs to stop ripping off their customers. I urge you to do the same if you've experienced the problem.

Of course, if I can't trust them to honor a contract, I probably can't trust their product either. Any recommendations for a new one? I switched from McAfee after it repeated refused to work post-renewal.

Last weekend, Fry's offered SystemSuite 8 at a net price of $9.99 after rebates.

Having tried their trial offer, I did not want it bad enough to pay full price because it does not seem to offer anything worthwhile when compared to Version 7.

For $9.99, I hoped that it had improved since the trial version was offered but if not, I would not be out much after the two rebates that were offered ($10 and $20).

I got it home, installed it, and within an hour, had crashed my computer. This is similar to my experience with the trial version 8 that I tried a while back.

Anyway, I started preparing the rebate coupons figuring that I would take it off my computer and wait for an upgrade on their site that might improve the product.

After completing the first rebate coupon downloaded from their site, I started on the second coupon. At that point, I realized that both required the box top and the two coupons went to different addresses.

I sent an email to them last night an promptly received an answer saying that you can only get one of the rebates but not both. Assuming that a mistake had been made, I replied and asked them to check this out again but did not receive a response.

Later last night, I mailed another request for verification of this response. Today, I got the same answer again.

They offer a 90 day money back guarantee so I am going to return it to them. The two reasons will be that this version offers nothing new of any value that I can see and I do not need a... Read more

A:Be wary of Avanquest SystemSuite 8 rebate 0ffer

I had a similar experience with rebates for the Avanquest Fix-It 8 Utilities. The Avanquest rebate had two offers. One was a $20.00 bundle and the other was a $10.00 single purchase, but it's an either one or the other deal. Staples also advertised $30.00 in rebates. It turned out that Staples had an additional $20.00 rebate that had to be submitted separately. Also, the web site info on the Avanquest rebate coupon wasn't complete. Here's the full web address: http://webate.avanquestusa.com/Rebate/Registration.aspx

I just ordered BitDefender Antivirus 2008 -- 3 PCs, 2 Years -- from Amazon.com for $30. Then there is a rebate for $20 on top of that. So basically you are getting it for like $10.

Go to NewEgg and Buy.com and you can get similar deals.

Based on that price and what I have read about BitDefender, I chose it over the paid versions of AVG, ESET NOD32 and Avast. I know it is not necessarily the best over those, but I figured that price is hard to beat. I need a paid version because I am using this for my home-business, not just personal use.

I still have time to cancel, so please give me your impressions of BitDefender Antivirus 2008 (both good and bad), and whether I made a good decision based upon price point and the effectiveness of BitDefender.

A:BitDefender Antivirus 2008 for $30 and offering a $20 rebate on top. Good choice?

well... i have never used it myself but i have heard decent reviews, i would certainly choose it over AVG and Avast (paid versions) but i have heard NOD32 is damn good! massive detection rate but yea $10 is a bit too good to pass up

i have recently bought TV Giant as i fancied a change from the regular type of games i usually play and this caught my eye. installation was fine and quick. the game then started up, got past all the manufacturer screens and got on to what looked like the loading screen, all five icons would light up to say that this has loaded then it would just shut off and go back to my desktop.

i am running vista so i thought whether it was that stupid problem where you have to run some programs as administrator, tried this and same thing happened, the weird thing was that no error message popped up detailing what happened, just a dialog box with looking for solution and then the end program screen. i checked in the problems page of control panel and looked at what the problem was. this was what it came up with:

When I add an attachment, the image appears huge to the receiver. How do I reduce the size of the image.

A:giant images

Hi carol, you would need to reduce the image size in a graphics program, like Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro. Adobe Photoshop is rather expensive, but Photoshop Elements and Paint Shop Pro are arouns $100. There are free image editors out there, I just don't know the names of them, try going to http://www.download.com and look under the graphics section and there should be some editors there you could either download for free or atleast get a free trial to see if you like them. Hope I have helped.

I used to have Giant AntiSpyware but it has been taken over by Microsoft.
I downloaded their new version when my subscription expired but when I installed it, it froze my computer?
I removed it and am reluctant to install it again?
Does anyone have any ideas? Or would a proprietary program be better if I purchased one? e.g. Spyware Doctor?

A:After Giant Antispyware?

Hello nabbersHere are a couple of on site links, that will hopefully, steer you in the right direction. Simple steps to keep your computer secure!Virus & Malware ResourcesThe school of thought is to have more than one spyware/adware program. Which is called layered protection. Reason being what one may not catch, another may.The first link above, has information on recommended programs. I personally do not use Giant AntiSpyware or Spyware Doctor. I did come across this though. Important information for GIANT AntiSpyware users who have active subscriptions Product and Definition File Updates. As previously offered by GIANT Company Software, software and definition file updates will be made available to you through the length of your subscription period as they become available.Microsoft will continue to provide the same level of support to current subscribers of GIANT AntiSpyware software as was offered by GIANT Company Software prior to its acquisition by Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft, however, will no longer sell new licenses, subscriptions, or subscription renewals for GIANT Company Software products, including GIANT AntiSpyware. After reading the info above, I wonder where you downloaded the new version of Giant AntiSpyware from.Since according to Microsoft., there are no longer offering any new licenses, subscriptions, or subscription renewals.Could you please reply with the location where you downloaded it from. If it is not an official download. That could be the probl... Read more

Recently my computer has started displaying giant pixels anytime I want to start up a computer game like The Sims or Trickster. For a while I thought it was just 3-d games that were not working but then I tried playing a 2-d pixel game, and I had the same problom, here is a screen cap of what I am talking about.

The computer that I am running is a eMachines T3256.
It has a nvidia GeForce 4 MX graphics card.
Is there anyways that I could fix this with buying a nother card, or downloading something, or will I have to take my computer in to someone to fix it?

A:Giant pixels, I need help

Re The Sims (original?) - your card should be able to play that

Re Trickster - your card doesn't support DX8 for 1.1 pixel shaders so probably cannot play that

Re the pixel problem - uninstall your present nVidia dtrivers in Add/Remove programs, reboot, and install the latest drivers.

edit: if the l;atest drivers don't fix it, uninstall them and try one of the 53.xx series - they apparently could, with hardware assisted software emulation, support vertex shader model 1.1.

I had this problem as well after removing ArcadeGiant.  I found that it had installed a scheduled update that was calling Aghelp.dll When I removed the scheduled update, the popup error did not return
I have the same problem. Ran Malwarebytes and ccleaner but had no effect. How did you eliminate the scheduled update?

Hi there

I'm a sucker for these strategy sim games, so I bought Hotel Giant, (Sold Out Range). I have installed it successfully but it won't run.

It looks like it's about to start, and then just jumps back to the desktop and nothing else happens. It does not crash and I don't get any error messages.

I have written to the support team but they never bothered to answer, so I'm stumped.

You guys are always so cool at helping me out, so was hoping you could help me get the game to run instead of it just jumping back to the desktop.

Thanks again

Meg, Scotland, UK

A:Solved: Hotel Giant (Won't Run)

Okay, I unticked the compatibility option altogether, and the game started, it got to starting the tutorial then froze and jumped back to the desktop. So i'm back to square one. Still no error messages.

I just got a new Gateway All-In-One Touchscreen computer. Every application I open, however, has these huge close minimize and maximize buttons. I was fine with them before but now they get in the way of Firefox 4's UI. Is there a way to make them normal. Picture of the Buttons here. Thanks.

Please load the picture onto this site using the attachment button. Though this may be a coincidence, my AV (Norton) flared up moments after entering the site. Thank you.

Sometimes I seem to get a HUGE context menu that goes completely from the top of the screen to the bottom. It seems to have a lot of options that aren't normally there on a simple right click. I never know what I did to get this menu and it seems to pop off about as fast.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv: Gecko/20101203 BRI/1 Firefox/3.6.13 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0E)

Windows XP at home and XPPro at work.

It has happened on both computers.

Just curious as to what this is and what I did to make it appear and disappear.

A:Giant Context Menu

I know that sometimes default settings get changed by accident. If you want you can try and change the settings for the browser. If you hold down the CTRL key and then use your scroll wheel you can change the size of the text on the page. I can look for a more permanent solution for you if this doesn't work.

I just installed WIN XP on a virgin harddrive. I don't like icons on my desktop so I like to use quick launch for recycle bin. my ISP and Internet Explorer. When I checked quick launch my taskbar grew to double its size. No matter how I moved or squashed it, it was either gone or double, but never the normal size. As soon as I uncheck quick launch I can compress the taskbar back to normal. Ideas and fixes welcomed.

A:the case of the giant taskbar

Have you got large icons selected for the quick launch taskbar?

To check, unlock the taskbar, then right-click on the quick-launch bar, and from the popup menu choose view, then large or small icons. Small icons will return the taskbar to normal size if this is what the problem is.
