I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Do you mean tabs or windows?
If tabs...
Close all but the tab with the URL you want to open as your start window.
In the upper right, (below the [x] to close Chrome),
you will see an icon that is three horizontal bars.
Click this. (Left click!)
Go down to "settings" (near the bottom of the list), Left Click.
It will open a new tab.
In the second section (On Startup) you will see three options.
The third is "Open a specific page or set of pages".
Left click the link to "set pages"
Left click the button that says "use current pages"
and your current "list" will clear and become only the tab you have open.
HTH.

The first thing I thought to do was run scandisc or checkdisk but can't seem to find it since I'm familiar with Windows XP only. Is there a secret place to look?

The problem is with ordinary websites -- not the spam sort of popups, but just Yahoo email for example -- I click to open and it opens but with about 100+ different windows of the same website and they just keep opening until I shut down the computer.

I downloaded "Smart Popup Killer" and every since then everytime I click a link that has to open in a new window or a popup comes up, my internet freezes. I've tried deleting the program, still didn't fix it. Is there some kind of corruption in a file somewhere? Can someone please help me out?!

A:Internet Freezes when I click a page that opens in a new window

I'm not familiar with the program, but usually a program will have an 'uninstall' file which is reached through the AddRemove Programs in Control Panel. If you just delete a program, some files are left in your system.

Try to install the program again; then go through proper avenue to uninstall (not delete). If nothing is shown in AddRemove Programs, look in the Popup file for a file labeled 'unwise' or 'uninstall'

Hi there

I got a virus/trojan of some sort today when an IT technician just had to poke his USB inside my netbook. The immediate effect I noticed was that Google Chrome started opening whatever link I clicked in a new tab, even though I did not press CTRL when clicking. Also, when I clicked the newly opened tab, it instantly closed. I noticed that pressing CTRL + Tab allowed me to swtich between tabs without them closing, so yay for me What was even weirder was that the virus/trojan not only affected Chrome, but also my desktop. I could no longer drag and drop to move files into a folder, and I can't move a single thing on my desktop (they'd return to their original place and not snap onto another grid/column/row).

Then I tried finding a solution, and came across two posts on Google support forums, describing the exact same problem as what I was facing (both were dated 2011):

http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=67613fa3ec0a4204&hl=en

Windows Media Player automatically pops up when I first turn pc on. Most icons on desktop have wmp icon. when I right click, it doesn't give me "open with" option, it only gives me "Open" and it opens wmp.

Also, when I right click on desktop, then properties, I then click on "display setting".. it opens wmp.

When I click on "default setting" it opens wmp.

When I click on "Start', control panel, uninstall a program, every is ok until I click on "Turn windows feature on or off" wmp opens again.

I tried all suggestions on different forums, but at one point in one of steps suggested, wmp opens before I can complete unistall or disable.

Any better suggestions? I'm afraid quick fix links suggested in some forums. I am not computer savvy so not sure what to do. I start job next week, and I'll need to use my pc, but don't want anything to go wrong. Help!! Thanks

Hello genesis, and welcome to Vista Forums.

A quick fix would be to do a system restore at boot using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened.

If that is not an option, then you could download and merge the .reg files for the listed lnk (LNK), exe, and dll options in the tutorial below. They will restore the default associations for these file extensions and hopefully fix this for you. You could also download and merge any other file extension that is not working properly as well if you like.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

Hope this helps,

After doing so, and everytime I click on an email address on a webpage, my internet explorer opens up 30 to 50 blank windows automatically. System then generally freezes and often requires a reboot. What's going on? I've already cleared out the temp internet files. I've attached a copy of HJT.

hi...please help! i have windows vista. i recently used my office 97 cd to install word, excel, etc. it installed successfully. now, when i try clicking on an email link (on craig's list, for example), windows mail opens about 40 windows, and then says that windows mail is no longer the default mail client. i then realized that an older version of outlook express had installed along with word and excel, so i uninstalled it. i'm still having the same problem. i can go to options under tools in windows mail, and i always have to check the 'make default' option. it won't stay that way. i found a thread elsewhere that addressed this problem, but the instructions were for the xp operating system. i would rather the instructions be for windows vista specifically. these instructions talked about changing something in the registry, and i got to the registry, but i could not find the next item it told me to go to...thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

I have a strange problem that has been occurring since I very first installed Windows 7 x64 fresh. Whenever I click on the primary C drive in Explorer (or any other CD, card reader, or network mapped drive), sometimes 1 new window will open up, sometimes 2 new windows will open up, and sometimes 3 new windows will open up. The new windows usually, but not always, have an address bar. Explorer just seems to randomly open multiple windows at will.

I've been searching and searching online, trying various Tools->Folder Options as well as registry settings, but nothing seems to work. All I've found is a couple other forum posts with the same problem (random amount of multiple windows opening), but no resolutions.

This doesn't happen on any of my other Windows 7 x64 computers. The main difference I can think of is that this is the only machine I have with an SSD, but I can't see how that would effect all drives in Explorer.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to fix this? I would like no new windows at all to open up.

A:Explorer opens multiple windows when I double click a drive

Go to Control Panel - Mouse properties. Reduce the Mouse Double Click Speed and check. This could be one of the problem.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Basic, SP2. My browser of choice is Firefox, currently at 3.6.13. I use a hard-wired, always on broadband connection.Recently, Internet Explorer has started opening itself, usually displaying advertisement pages. Also, when clicking on links provided by a Google search (while using Firefox or IE), I'm redirected to yet more ad pages. I've tried all the basic tools I'm aware of ---- Malwarebytes, AVG, Spybot S&D, and SuperAntiSpyware. All have been updated, and I've run them in safe mode. A few things have been caught (by Malwarebytes, Spybot, and SAS) and quarantined and/or removed, but this has had no effect on the problem.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Edit: Moved topic from Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs to the more appropriate forum, due to the absence of malware removal logs in topic. ~ Animal

DDS and GMER logs are pasted below.

Some details on my problem: I first posted about this on the Am I Infected board and was instructed to post these logs here.

I'm running Windows 7. The first sign of a problem I noticed was when Internet Explorer windows began opening spontaneously and loading ad websites. I don't use IE - this occured while I was using Chrome. A window like this pops up every several minutes, usually with an ad on a site called "Epic Arcade" or a google search results page like this: http://www.google.com/search?q=111211url.cptgt.com

I began Googling to see what this problem might be, and noticed that when I clicked on links to malware support forums, my browser was redirected, usually to a site called "7search." Here's one URL that I have been redirected to when clicking on a google link: http://7search.com/scripts/validation/v1/validate.aspx?x=P3ZWU9fFYokfnnjaYxwfhg%3d%3d_nhOtydLqdv9m6IipKcv8Csb3oog/rIHWxLXRQpm5OIxY1HZ0OXtkN7jEn0g2y6mHUizHc1ETuRC8VT5T7SWYTH7WQGSsZNkCqYQ7/1ACCJyEvepuK8cXQge6EJTP0dfaKi2o%2b7n7e7cpA3ZOUknmFBZR8a07pMy%2b4LSmVv6WAUEPMXL569LJ1gS6JS9DKiFFap3QsqaeXqcWCIDXVQaLuIGdh6wSh1hiAWlUa%2bTaTK3zNpFdgdARBBCOdxcaQhTsCnxiwsSWwRxPkmX01CCu3t12JQBQdfSGb2bQcWJHuvb3XdnDhbmQrScmWA/VqNhO

Hi,

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and IE 9. If I do a search on Google, IE will not allow me to click through on any links. Problem only happens on Google, not on other sites (Bing, Yahoo, CNN.com or any other site I've tried).

Firefox works fine but IE does not. The only workaround I've been able to make work is adding Google to my Trusted Sites in IE. But that's stopped working, too.

Any ideas for how to fix this?

A:Internet Explorer not allowing click-through on Google

Only https sites are affected by "Trusted Sites". Start by making IE your default browser.

Immediately after, LEFT click stopped opening anything (except on this site, oddly enough). On eBay, hotmail, Amazon....anything other than this site, I have to RIGHT click, then chose Open. Using Internet Explorer 7.0 - I use a website that has links that open up into a new window, and a Quicktime video comes up... I'm using a lap top that I've had for almost a year, but haven't used online much... anyway, when I click on the link, a new window opens, and the video begins to play.... but the original window also changes to the video, so they are BOTH playing, at the same time. How can I change it so that the new window opens and plays the video, but the original window stays on the page where the original link was selected?
Additional Details
I've been going to the site using both Firefox and IE7 on THIS computer with no problem, but the problem is with the OTHER laptop... The site is lynda.com - but for the above reason, I don't think it's a problem with their site. Where, on IE7, can I find "preferences"? Is there such a thing?

A:Click on link, new window opens AND same opens in original window

Look under Tools in IE and click on Internet Options. Look in Control Panel under Folder Options as well. Hope this helps. Jazz

New programs installed after the malware was removed connect to the internet perfectly, but programs installed before the malware do not connect to the internet. Installing the programs do not work. Hi,

I hope you guys can help me out here. This started yesterday on my PC. Basically if you open google and perform a search (lets say for Tech Guy), when you get your results and you click on the one you want, instead of going to the right site, it opens up a new window with the heading "Please take a second to help us identify click fraud" at the top with a list of search terms shown in a central window. Obviously this isn't right so I'm not sure what's causing this to happen, must be something that's got into my PC.
Can someone help, HJT log is as follows and if you need any more info please just ask.
The only thing thats come up recently is that Bullguard asked if I wanted to allow or block C:\windows\che3.exe and I blocked it as I didn't recognise it.
