I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I recently updated to windows 10 but the Waves Maxx audio is not working properly. It doesn't start automatically at startup (it is not disabled in task manager) and the audio is cracking both in speaker as well as in all my headphones and earphones. I've reinstalled the driver from Dell's official site several times but nothing works. My windows 10 OS is up to date with anniversary update. In device manager all the drivers are installed.

Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista. Bought Windows 7 and followed all the online and book instructions to install.
Now when I turn the computer on, the pretty Windows 7 screen opens and asks for my password then immediately turns to a black screen where all this information is scrolling so fast I can barely read it.
I can see something about Windows did not shut down properly...and crash dump files...

HELP!??!?!?

I can get into Safe mode but "run windows normally" takes me through the same loop as above over and over.

What am I missing here!?!!??

Try running the Dell Diagnostics Test (the full version) to see if it detects any problems. Here's how: How to Run the Dell. If it does, contact Dell Support for assistance (there's a link near the bottom of the above article).

I hope this helps. If the test comes back completely clean, then post back and we'll try something else (or if your computer is still under warranty, contact Dell Support anyway as they should be happy to assist you and know more about your computer than we do).

Good luck!

i have a dell inspiron 1525 with windows vista and am currently experiencing problems with the sound. Specifically i have none and want to know why.

Hi roger.ledger, welcome to TSF..

Best thing I can advise is to uninstall your sound drivers and install the latest available from Dell:

I'm using the power supply that came with the computer (I assume 300W?) along with the above specs. So my question is will this video card upgrade work with my Dell Inspiron 3847? And if so, will I need a new power supply, or can I keep the one that came with the computer? If this upgrade isn't realistic, then a recommendation for the right direction to go towards would be appreciated as I am very new to messing with computer hardware/building or upgrading a computer.
I heard that the size of the video card could be a problem for the Dell Inspiron 3847, but this one is only 1.5 x 5.7 x 4.38 inches according to Amazon, so I'm pretty sure it is small enough for the case.
If anyone can help a newbie out then that would be greatly appreciated. If I am missing any details that are needed so you can help me I will try to provide with those if I can.

I currently have an inspiron 15-3520 laptop that I bought in 2012, that came with Windows 8 pre-loaded. I have updated to Windows 8.1 and are wondering if I can get the free upgrade to Windows 10 when it comes out. Any response would be appreciated, thanks.

A:Windows 10 Upgrade - Dell Inspiron 15-3520

Had the same problem after Win10 upgrade, my 3520 had a black screen and 3 beeps.  NONE of the traditional resets/setup/fixes worked! The only way I got mine and a neighbors 3520 going again was to remove the CMOS battery, which resets it enough to let you in the BIOS via the "F2" key at the now visible -Dell start-up screen- and then you can set the BIOS to reload the default values and restart.  Now you should be able to get in to your previous windows OS or Win10 (depending on how far the Win10 Upgrade got before it died) -in my case back to Win7 and Win8.1 for my neighbors.  The hard part is getting to the CMOS battery... take the laptop apart (all the way) AC/battery removed, remove keyboard (4 small push in  tabs along top of keyboard) then remove 3 cables (all marked with blue color/tabs) 1.) flip brown cable connector clasp to the right to remove keyboard cable, 2.) lift brown connector to remove power cable (upper left) and 3.)  lift brown connector to remove track pad cable.  Next remove 2 screws from the hole now open from where the keyboard was removed (the only 2 screws down brown plastic holes, middle left and upper middle) Now flip over laptop and remove all screws from bottom and then flip back upright and separate top of case from bottom, you have to gently pry apart at several points (guitar pick is a great tool or small screw driver) around case until top pops off, set aside.  The CMOS battery is a round flat cr2... Hi Thanks for reply. My friends Inspiron 1545 came pre-loaded with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. He bought the activation key from Sofoway in Banbury. They sent a link to Microsoft to download Windows 7 Pro 64 bit., which I did for him, as he’s not computer literate. I clean installed Windows7 Pro and then did the free upgrade to Windows10 Pro 64 bit. His computer was running fine. He came to pick it up from my place. I showed him it running Windows 10 and he was happy. Then about ten days later he called me and told me that he’s installed his mcAfee unlimited Internet Security, which he’d purchased from PcWorld. He got the activation key card, went home and went on McAfee, downloaded the software and so he tells me, after it activated, he got a message from McAfee telling him all his drivers were either out of date or weren’t installed. He called them and they passed him to some company on the phone that he doesn’t remember the name of and they offered to update and install any missing drivers for 80 pounds sterling and they requested him to activate Remote Assistant, which he did so they could take over his laptop and configure the drivers and missing drivers. He gave them his, either Debit card, or Credit card details and they took the 80 pounds from his bank account. He tells me that his laptop is running fine now, but it was running fine when I did the Windows 7 installation and the Windows 10 free upgrade, so I don’t understand why his l... Read more

Any chance the 32 bit vs 64 bit was involved when McAfee was installed?  Maybe McAfee was for Windows 7 and not 10.
I have a 1545 which seems to run Win 10 fine, although I had previously replaced the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card.
Have your friend check the Event Viewer and go through the logs.  Something may be there which would help lead to solving some problem.  Keeping track of what time something happens would help in finding entries in Event Viewer.

Last week I purchased a new desktop from Dell.com. The desktop comes with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit pre-installed and also came with a free copy of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Windows 10 came with the desktop in the form of a DVD that I have picutred here: http://i.imgur.com/Z3N84IS.jpg

Does anyone have experience using the Windows 10 Pro 64-bit upgrade disc that comes with this desktop?

I popped the included disc in, rebooted the computer, and then hit F12 to boot from the disc. The disc ran and I attempted to select the option to install Windows 10 and keep my files that are on the drive. It attempted to install but then stopped because there was a "partition missing". So instead, I then tried another option which was to wipe the entire drive clean and install Windows 10. That didn't work either because drive is locked.

A:Dell inspiron 15R n5010 no sound, Windows 10

Warning to anyone reading this thread:
Make sure you know your model name before installing a driver!
The subject of this thread is "Dell inspiron 15R n5010 no sound, Windows 10". The problem is that there is no model with that exact name. There is an Inspiron 15 N5010, and an Inspiron 15R N5110.
They are different models and use different drivers. In other words, the audio driver for the N5010 is not meant for the N5110, and vice versa.
To complicate matters, somebody named aimeehuang posted in this thread and put in a link named "dell 15r n5010 drivers download". But if you click on the link it goes to a page for Inspiron 15R N5110.The person named "aimeehuang" is not a regular on this discussion board and probably got the model names confused.
Check your model name. If you have an Inspiron 15 N5010, use the IDT R280657 audio driver. It is meant for Win7, so install it into Win10 using compatibility mode (instructions below).
If you have an Inspiron 15R N5110, use the IDT 6.10.0.6421 audio driver. It is meant for Windows 8. It might install without a problem into Win10, but if there is a problem, install it using compatibility mode (instructions below).
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive..2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write... Read more

My computer is a dell inspiron 14z.

So my wifi was working ok before I upgraded to Windows 8 but afterwards seemed to not even realize it had wifi capabilities. I looked at the Wireless network adapter thing in the device manager and it had a little error icon next to it.

Here's some pictures of the error and device manager that might help maybe.

I've tried updating the driver but it just says that its all good and up to date.

Dell wanted me to pay 120$ for a single customer service session.

I'd be so happy if you guys could fix this.

you guys are awesome thanks

120$? to fix a driver issue? That is extortion in my eyes lol.

Anyway I had a quick look on the dell support site and found there are 3 different models for Dell Inspiron 14z Could you tell me which one it is? Also try navigating to the driver downloads page and downloading the wireless network drivers for your model and installing them. Pic Attached

Had a look at the drivers on each of the models and they only seem to support 64bit Versions of Windows 7 & 8, Do you know if you have 32bit or 64bit edition of windows 8? If you have 32bit then the drivers for the hardware probably wont work.

If you don't you can check it by following this easy guide (I would walk you through it but I havent used windows 8 yet) http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/windows-8-64-bit-32-bit.htm

I've browsed several forums with this issue, and cannot get a fix.

I upgraded a Dell Inspiron 1545 from Vista 64 to 7 64. Everything went off without a hitch (boy was I surprised).
Now that I have it all up and running, I cannot get my webcam working.

I have attempted to install the drivers off the Dell CD that came with the laptop. These are Vista 64 drivers, and they don't work. I have downloaded the drivers from the dell website - they are the same drivers as the CD.

Someone told me I could 'run the webcam in compatibility mode', but if the computer isn't even recognizing the webcam, how would that work?

Device Manager says the webcam is working properly.

I'm at my wits end with this. I really don't want to have to downgrade to Vista, but it's pretty important that this camera work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Dell Inspiron 518 desktop with 64 bit Vista, and attempted to update the BIOS to version 1.0.7 last evening.  I closed all open programs, disabled anti-virus, and ran the BIOS update as administrator.  The update began and asked if I would like to update from version 1.0.5 to 1.0.7, and I clicked on the update button.  The BIOS flash began by deleting the previous BIOS and then attempted to install the new 1.0.7 BIOS but produced an error message similar to "error writing BIOS to block," an the only option was to cancel the update.  I knew I did not have any BIOS installed at that point, but my computer was still operating so I made an additional attempt to re-download the 1.0.7 BIOS and re-install it.  No good, it would not even run now.  There was no turning back and no way to reinstall either the previous BIOS or the new one.  Eventually I tried to restart the computer, and it would not start.
Dell is sending a tech next week to replace the motherboard on this otherwise great computer that is only about two months old.
DO NOT upgrade the BIOS on a Inspiron 518 with 64 Bit Vista to version 1.0.7.  The upgrade does not work and will kill your motherboard.
Art

A:Dell Inspiron 518 BIOS v1.0.7 64 Bit Vista DO NOT UPGRADE BIOS

No it happened to me too.  Dell is replacing the motherboard under warranty but I was told somewhat firmly not to update the BIOS unless advised by a technican.  In my defense the BIOS update was listed as "recommended" under the download section for this unit on the Dell support website.
I would recommend to avoid two phone calls (over 40 minutes each) to tech support and several days waiting for a new motherboard, not to update the BIOS at this time.
Thankfully it is being covered under warranty.

Hey everyone, I recently purchased an ADATA Ultimate SU800 256GB SSD and installed it in my Inspiron 7537. However, when I leave the computer on for extended periods of time the computer will crash and bluescreen, reboot, and the BIOS says there is no boot disk to be found. The strange thing is, the computer will boot back up with no issues after the power is turned completely off.
At first, I thought this might be an issue with the drive itself, but I've tried multiple disk utilities (including CrystalDisk and the native disk utility in Windows) and they've all reported that the SSD is functioning.
I've installed all the latest drivers from the dell support page, I've flashed the latest BIOS version, I've installed the most current version of windows 10 and verified the installation files. I can't seem to think of any reason for this to be happening other than the laptop is either broken or incompatible, both of which seem highly unlikely considering it was working fine before I instlalled the drive, and it is a newer machine and shouldn't be incompatible with a SATA drive.
Another thing to note is, connecting the old HDD through USB via an external casing causes the issue to happen much faster, and sometimes will yield the windows recovery menu (suggesting it was trying to boot from the HDD)
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I've tried everything but I'm stumped.

My DELL INSPIRON N5110 Windows 10 64 Bit having Crackling Sound Problem on Both Speakers and Headphone. I have already tried twice to format window, uninstall sound drivers and only keeping High Definition Audio native driver only but the problem is not getting rectified. I shown my Laptop to a Mechanic also and he said speakers are ok. So the problem is with Software but yet I am not sure about where is this problem in Software or Hardware? I have also done diagnostic test but everything fine in Test. Please help me with this problem, I am unable to listen music and watch movies. Your Help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks!

Several weeks ago my laptop stopped producing sound. I have investigated multiple options and am wondering if there have been any recent known bugs in lost sound, due to upgrades or something else that caused problems for others. I have tried the following:

- double-checking all the keyboard "F" function keys
- using Dell's trouble-shooting tools and instructions, which tell me the sound components are in good order
- updating drivers/removing and re-installing drivers
- using Windows' and control panel's trouble-shooting tools
- altering the sound "theme" offered by Windows
- adjusted the volume settings on my laptop

My laptop has IDT High Definition Audio CODEC as the default sound device. I don't use plug-in speakers or headphones.

I haven't dropped, jarred or otherwise damaged the laptop.

However, over the past several weeks I have:

- installed ERUNT as an emergency recovery utility (I receive error messages when I log on, so I think this utility is not working properly, but I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot it or remove it)
- installed suggested Windows updates
- installed MS Office updates
- regularly run Spybot and Spyhunter in addition to Malwarebytes

I noticed that my browser is slow and often locking up. I have to go into the Task Manager to get things moving again. I wonder if this is caused by script problems - Java, Shockwave? Could one of these be affecting my sound?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. It's driving me crazy not... Read more

Try System Restore, choose a restore point before the issue began.

I am having the same issue. I just bought this laptop from somebody who had completely erased the laptop before selling to me , telling me I had to reinstall windows vista onto it. I tried putting disc in and as the laptop (Inspiron1545) reboots, it loads to DeLL screen and option for setup and boot pressing f12 comes up and when selected, options come up where I select CD\DVD then the entire DELL screen comes back loading over and over again. loads, goes black like its trying to boot , white blinker comes up at top right, then just reloads over and over again.
I have run a diagnostic and everything has passed including extended diagnostic. What do I do ?! I just purchased this laptop and it is not working ? Please help if you could. If directly emailing me will make this easier please, feel free to !!

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
We would suggest you to boot into BIOS and check the Boot options.:

Start the computer
Choose to enter BIOS setup. ...
Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT tab. ...
To give a CD or DVD drive boot sequence priority over the hard drive, move it to the first position in the list.

Let us know if this works.

Try hitting F8 repeatedly after you restart your system. You must do so before windows starts to load.

A:Where to locate Run on Dell Inspiron 1501 Windows Vista

you can hit on your keyboard the following combo to make it pop up:

Windows + R

I've used that on both Windows Vista home Prem and Ultimate

I think if you right click on the start menu and access its properties you can enable the run icon..I'm not really sure on that one though

Does anyone have experience using the Windows 10 Pro upgrade disc that comes with this desktop?
www.dell.com/.../pd
I ordered this specific model a week ago I'm now sitting here using it as I type this. I popped the included disc in, rebooted, and then hit F12 to boot from the disc. The disc ran and I attempted to select the option to install Windows 10 and keep my files that are on the drive. It told me the drive is locked so it can't install. So instead I then tried another option which was to wipe the entire drive clean and install Windows 10. That didn't work either because there was a "partition missing". There is an astonishingly low amount of search results related to my problem on the internet. So I was hoping someone here had some experience or advice to offer me.

I cannot get sound to play through my HDMI cable from my desktop to my LG TV. I am able to do video but no sound.

I have a Dell Windows 7 64 bit. Kaspsersky Internet Security

I used to get sound and then after a couple of months of not connecting my Computer to my TV (because there was nothing on Hulu to watch) - I connect the HDMI cable and it doesn't play sound.

I've searched this site and tom's hardware and microsoft for hours to no avail.

Here is what I've done.

When looking in Playback Devices, I only see my Conexant HD Audio.(I've right clicked and clicked "Show Disabled and Disconnected Devices"). No LG TV shows.

I went into Device Manager, I see no HDMI in sounds. I only see Conexant HD Audio and Intel(R) Display Audio. I've also scanned for hardware changes. Nothing shows up.

I've checked the audio set up on my TV - all is set up correctly (unless someone knows something I don't know)

Under devices, My LG TV shows up and is named Generic PnP Monitor. I've Disabled/Enabled both; as well as, unistalled and reinstalled and updated drivers.

MS has no drivers nor additional updates.

I'm really at a loss.

A:LG TV & Dell Windows 7 64 bit - Sound won't work via HDMI

What Model Dell do you have? It helps.

If you have Intel Display Audio, that is the audio for HDMI, unless you also have a separate video card that provides it.

Uninstall the Intel Display Audio, in the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the Intel Display audio entry then LEFT "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall any drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Intel Display Audio. If there were any Windows corruptions with this, the reinstall will fix it.

Hi, not sure if a thread like this already exists but I couldn't find one.

I took my old laptop to my local pc store for a re-store (it used to run xp) i got the laptop upgraded instead to win 7 to try and make it faster and better. Everything on the laptop now works apart from the sound, there is no sound at all, I've been told its because its incompatible but i was wandering if there is possibly a way of fixing it.

the laptop is a sony vaio vgn-fs485b.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 32- bit laptop with 2 GB RAM and windows vista basic
I had to install a new hard drive since the old one had failed.
I have installed windows vista basic using installation CD from dell that came with the computer and all the drivers but one (as mentioned below) by using drives CD from dell.
I have installed all the windows update as prompted.
The only driver I could not install ( do not have an idea how to ) is
Serial ATA drivers ? intel matrix storage manager
Because it gives the option of selecting 32 or 64- bit version but then no option to install it ( I did not see an exe file). I tried to download this driver from Dell website but same issue.
I am also having issues with internet explorer (currently it is IE 7) and when I select to download IE 9 it gives me message that it is not compatible with 32-bit computer.
I have tried to open and download IE from other websites, even tried to install google, fire fox but keep getting the message on all webistes that
IE cannot open the internet site ?http//???
Operation aborted.

Please advise.

A:Issues with IE and windows Vista reinstall on dell inspiron 1545

See if the Intel Driver Update Tool can find what you need on your system:

Intel? Driver Update Utility

About IE, sounds like IE has something wrong with it in its current state. Where are you finding the IE 9 download? See if a full reset of IE helps with anything.

Contact Dell and see if you can order the installation disc's. There's usually a minimal charge for them....last time I order any was from Dell and for XP Home....and those ran me $20 plus tax/shipping.

I am going to preform a factory wipe and reset  on my Dell Inspiron 530 which has windows Vista Home Premium installed. My question is will I have problems downloading any of the factory software and drivers or update the system if windows is not supporting Vista ? This is my first time doing this and any advice will be appreciated. Thank You.

A:Does windows support windows vista after a factory reset on Dell Inspiron 530

Microsoft have ditched support for all IE versions earlier than 11 and only allowed up to version 9 on Vista. Google have also ditched Chrome support for this operating system. Office 2013/2016/Windows Live Essentials all do not support Windows Vista.
Consider the Operating System at End of Life.
Theres no official free upgrade path to Windows 10 TH2 however you may use the unofficial 10130 Upgrade path. The Inspiron 530 runs Windows 10 64 Bit TH2 well.

After upgrading to windows 10 from windows 7, surround sound does not work properly. Whether using analog or digital.
First of all, 5.1 now has side speakers available instead of rear speakers. I had to actually unplug from rear channel and plug into side channel to get surround speakers working. But it still does not sound right, it does not sound as it should. Not like it did in win 7 I don't think this is proper format and mapping. Using the same exact drivers in win 7, I get rear speaker option (not side channels) and it sounds proper.

Furthermore, When watching videos in vlc, wmp, or browsers. THX Trustudio surround settings have no affect on sound. And Neither do any of the realtek control panel enhancements. Only time realtek enchancements have an affect is when playing mp3 file formats in wmp in stereo mode.

Updating to the latest realtek driver does not fix this issue. I believe this is a Microsoft windows 10 issue. One of the things MS has always had over linux is better sound and surround sound controls. This is a huge step backwards and a disappointing experience.

Also I notice now under codec it says alc3220 instead of alc887 like on win 7. So I think it is not recognizing the correct hardware?

Thanks,

Rich.
