I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just received my second delay notification on a custom P51 after being promised by support it would not move again. This one just says hoping to ship within 30 days. We all know this is crap and Lenovo knows there aren?t parts way ahead of time. It?s much harder to sell if all computers say they won?t ship for well over a month. What are typical delay times for those of you that have waited recently? I have two other older workstations and really like the quality of them. I really don?t like the idea of being played by Lenovo and this being strung out for months. Thanks in advance!

Hello, It's been more than 6 weeks that I ordered ThinkPad 13. The shipping date has been changed like 4 times already. Every time I contact the customer care, they say the same story of some part shortage. Looks like system is automatically pushing the date a week ahead. Is anyone else facing the same problem? What's the max that Lenovo has taken to ship ThinkPad 13 for the laptops that are already shipped till now? Thanks,

Sorry if this is not the right venue for this topic, but I was hoping you all had experience with this problem because I'm getting really frustrated at Lenovo. I custom ordered an x1 on August 9, with the expectation (and written confirmation) that the machine would take 3-5 business days to ship. Each day on my order visibilility portal, my expected ship day shows up in the morning, and is pushed back until the next day when I check back later. Does Lenovo have any idea when my order will be shipped? It would be one thing to postpone the order (which they did and emailed me about a week after I checked the order portal), but now there is no communication and I have no idea when the machine will arrive. I need the machine for work and school, and ordered it specifically because of immediate use. I'm using an old MacBook in the mean time and truly struggling. If I had known how much they would delay shipment, I would cancel but now I'm in limbo just waiting each day to see whether they actually ship it. My order screen now shows a shipment for Aug 28, which I'm sure will be pushed back again. Has anyone else experienced this type of delay and lack of communication? When should I expect my computer?

I?ve got an order out for a X1 extreme with a 4K screen and the hexacore CPU. During ordering, the ship date estimate was the 13th. Then with the order placed it was the 20th. Check today and now it?s the 30th. They don?t give me any emails about this - I have to manually visit the site to check. Is this common? I?m seriously thinking of just cancelling the order. If they can?t handle getting me something I ordered (or at least telling me it?s delayed), they?re going to be worse repairing it should that need arise.

I was going to get my new T490 in early august--now it is pushed out, won't get until the 15th. What sort of delays are other folks seeing for custom t490s? If this is likely to go out further I will either cancel the order and live with what I've got, or find a (hopefully Lenovo) in-stock box...

hello.
first of all, I have a MSI X320 that I purchased in October and on the second day I registered for the Windows 7 Upgrade Option. The way that MSI's system is set up I have not gotten any indication that ith has been processed, is in processing, or set up and I sent it to processing. I called MSI Canada and they said something about waiting for the vouchers from Microsoft or some other crap and that they do not know when it will ship.

Second, in August my mom bought a HP laptop because she was told that while Window 7 will be avialable in October, computers with 7 pre-installed won't arrive into shelves until November. She was going to wait until october until she heard this because She does not want to use Vista. I registered the HP upgrade program for her and she recieved three emmails, the last one saying that her disk is being built, but last time i checked the online webside says that it was shipped and had a tracking number for THL but THL said that the number was not valid and to wait 24 hours. that was in September. if she had known that it would've taken so long she would've waited until october where there WERE Windows 7 laptops on the shelves.

it is now December and niether one of us has recieved our upgrade disks or any indication as to where they are.
any idea why?

Hi I recently bought a ThinkPad P51 on the Lenovo online store in the UK, the shipping of this of the order experienced a few days delay going from the advertised 7 business days to 11 business days this due to a shortage on memory, luckily I didn't have to wait a long time for the order to be shipped as I could see it happened to some customers who bought the new P series back in May. However the factory from where these laptops are assembled LCFC (HEIFEI) ELECTRONICS TECHNOLOGY in China always seems to missed the latest collection time for the courier that Lenovo uses UPS, this is the second order where I have had the same problem, this factory tendered the shipment to UPS after the latest collection time causing a further one day delay to an already delayed shipment. I don't understand why on such high end machines and considering the prices that customers are willing to pay why Lenovo doesn't offer a premium delivery service so customers can receive the shipment quicker, also I noticed now that the advertised shipping time for some models on the new P series is now showing on the Lenovo online store in the UK from 3-4 weeks probably because of some sort of shortage in parts I believe. Anyway, I just wanted to share with those thinking to buy any model of the P51 or P71 the current shipping situation and delays you may encounter.

Well, as usual, trying to reload windows XP has failed and my computer won't boot up... It gets to the point where it's trying to load a file called a347bus.sys and it just stops and reboots itself. I have no clue what to do about this. I've tried booting off my windows CD, that doesn't work, nothing works at all... I was having a problem with a program with Windows and just decided to reload it. I should have known better to think something from Microsoft would actually run smoothly. Anyway, If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated... I'm trying to get through this without losing my data on the C drive.

Ok, pretty typical to have a bluescreen thread on an XP forum right?

Well this one sucks. The first time it bluescreened, I saw something about a bad driver for an AGP card, funny thing is, there's no AGP or PCI-E slots in the computer. The computer is a Dimension 3100... time for an upgrade right?

Anyway, when the bluescreen comes up, the stop error numbers are 0x0000008E(0xC0000005,0x8054BFD2,0xA90D8B1C,0x00000000)

Searching these numbers brings up results until I hit the 0xA90D8B1C line, then it just drops everything.

Any ideas?

Hello, I need someone's assistance in looking at these logs and/or explaining to me what my problem is and what to do. I'll start with my problem; Internet Explorer seems to have a hard time opening up a handful of web pages including www.avg.com, www.microsoft.com, www.pctools.com and some others. I get sent to a 'cannot be displayed' page. This is really a pain in my ass because I literally just bought a brand new 320GB HDD 2 days ago and installed Windows XP Home Edition SP3 on it creating 2 seperate partitions. Since microsoft sites don't work I can't manage to activate my windows cd-key and since the AVG sites don't work, I'm not able to download the updates for FREE AVG Anti-Virus 8.0. A:Typical Problems - In Need of Your Help

I'm sorry to bump this thread back up, but I thought I should mention that I did try and go into 'safe mode with networking' to attempt to open web pages. Every page opened up perfectly fine including Microsoft's and AVG's websites. So then I figured maybe it was a program that I have running on startup preventing me from opening up some web pages. I went to Start, Run, and typed in msconfig. I disabled all startup items and restarted the computer. Still can't open these web pages. What could be the problem?

Looking to possibly, maybe, perhaps purchase an SSD. 64gb at the VERY minimum. 128gb pref. That said, how would a Kingston 64gb SSD such as:

Kingston 64GB SSDNow V-Series 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive - Aria PC
stack up against a WD 300gb raptor

Scan.co.uk: 300 GB Western Digital VelociRaptor Hard Drive - HDD - WD3000HLFS

Thanks.

A:Raptor HD vs typical 64 - 128 GB SSD

I suppose it depends on the following... the SSD is a 2.5" and you are comparing it to a 300 GB 3.5" drive. Do you need large amounts of space and what are you putting it into. Personally, if you are planning on putting a 2.5" drive into a desktop, you might be paying too much for performance to also have to find some sort of frame to fit it into a computer.

And getting a 300 Gig drive that might not fit into a laptop drive space or a 2.5" drive bay is a bit silly.

But ignoring all that, the size difference is the question. The SSDs you want more for a system drive, you would hardly want to go out of your way to have a 300 gig drive for a system performance and use it more for an independent app drive or data drive in general and a high performance hard drive, you would use more for a heavy use app or heavy data access drive. Like a SQL server or video/music editing.

I am building a new Haswell PC here on the right coast of the US, and need to ship it to the owner on the left coast - built, tested, and loaded.

Has anyone done this and have any tips to try and get it to it's destination in working condition?

The owner is fairly mechanically inclined, but has never worked inside a PC before, so I am wary of what I can ask her to do.
My main concern is we are considering a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO, and I am concerned about the height of this thing creating enough leverage to tear the socket out if there was a jolt. I've considered removing it and then trying to walk her through installing it at her end but I'm not sure this is the best plan.
Or we could just stick with the stock heatsink and fan and not deal with the EVO.

Any experiences and tips would be appreciated!

A:Shipping a PC

Well if it was me I would get bunch of static free bubble wrap and stuff the inside of case so things don't move then wrap outside of case put in box then get bigger box and put more wrap between the two boxes. That should protect everything then make sure you put insurance on it for a value twice the amount of the package. Forgot to say to mark the box this side up so motherboard is on bottom of box.

I've had good luck with HP computers, and recently ordered a new EliteDesk. The problem is, I paid a premium for next-day delivery. The unit was shipped from Texas (to Northern California) on May 25th. It is now May 31st, and I don't have it yet. FedEx dropped the ball and failed to deliver it today, and they say I'll have it tomorrow -- but in the course of my discussion with them, they said it was shipped GROUND. Because it was shipped ground, I am certainly entitled to a refund on the premium shipping charge that was billed to my credit card. But here's the real problem: As far as I can tell, there is NO page on the HP website that provides a phone number I can use to call and complain about this. I have looked and looked and looked. I would love it if some kind person would provide a customer support phone number so I can call and explain the problem to them. Or even a URL of the web page that has a phone number. I do quite understand that large corporations don't want to hear from customers after they have made a sale ... but in this case, if I don't get a commitment from HP to rescind the charge for next-day shipping, I'll have to have my Visa cancel the entire payment for the computer, and then where will we be? It will be a headache for everybody. So how about a phone number, eh?

Hi all, new to the site but feel like family with how much I've been browsing hoping for a possible fix for my problem.

Here's the deal, about 2 weeks ago I turned on my laptop one morning to find that the cpu usuage was abnormally high and the game I was playing was lagging more than ever. I took my usual steps, virus/malware scans, ccleaner, spybot, defrag, disk clean-up but to no avail. I took my laptop into the shop for them to diagnose my system but they returned it assuring me it was running at it's full potential but the problem still persisted. I then reformatted my laptop thinking there could somehow be a virus or some malware hiding deep in my system but the cpu is still jumping to 100% and my laptop isn't running as it used to be. Note that the cpu usage isn't always at 100% but whenever I start a game or firefox they jack the usage straight up to 100 and it seems it struggles to go down afterward.

Hi Guys,

Let me say first that I appreciate anyone checking this out. I am having a really hard time with my PC and I'm hoping for some assistance. I've been reading all sorts of information on bootmgr errors but none match my situation. I promise I haven't seen a fix for my specific boot issue anywhere

If I may, give you some background... any assistance is FANTASTIC thank you!

My system is a Dell Dimension E520

I reformatted the hard drive via the Command Prompt using the reinstallation DVD I was sent with my computer. As a result, I have no OS left on the computer.

My plan was to reinstall using that same DVD. Once reformat was complete, I named the drive and rebooted.

Upon restarting, the computer attempted to boot and I got a bootmgr missing ctrl al del to restart error.

I then switched BIOS around so that the DVD/CD drive is #1 and upon starting up it asks me to press any key to load from cd/dvd

The problem is... the files begin to load but fail and I'm shown a WINDOWS BOOT MANAGER error that prevents the dvd from starting.

Status: 0x00000e9
Info: An unexpected error has occurred

Every fix I saw requires the DVD to load. This isn't possible for me.

I also download NEOSMARTS windows recovery disc and that DID load, but it doesn't actually allow you to reinstall windows.

I was able to access the command prompt and tried this process:

Click Repair your computer
- Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next
- In the System Reco... Read more

My main family use computer is a dual boot system (Win XP / Ubuntu). We are slowly escaping the Windows virus trap...

Anyway, in XP I found all my GUI inputs getting messed about. 1st thing was I couldn't open an e-mail account in Thunderbird. I have several accounts all loaded into the program, but whenever I clicked on an account to use it, the entire account closed as if the "-" button had been clicked. Even clicking the "+" symbol to open the account did nothing. After only a few clicks every e-mail account had closed and I couldn't get to any of them.

Then, I went to Firefox to search if a virus could do this. I typed Symantic into the search box, and Google came up with a list of hits on the term "citnamys" - my search key had been reversed.

By now I was certain I had a virus, so I shut down and rebooted into safe mode and did an AVG command line scan on the entire system. AVG reported lots of files locked, but no virus found. Then I rebooted again, this time into safe mode with networking so I could go to Symantic site and do a virus scan from there. Again, nothing was found.

So, I rebooted normally, and everything seems to be working normally again - but I'm not quite confident that there isn't a virus hiding waiting to strike once I get too comfortable. We can still use the machine in Ubuntu, and from there can access the XP partition...

Am I being paranoid, or is there a real chance I may still have a dormant v... Read more

First I have to say I am not as good with computers as I used to be. I am a DIY kinda guy and I want to try to fix this problem before paying someone to fix it for me.

Bare with me.

Computer is an HP Pavilion laptop with Vista Home.

Problems:

Windows sounds don't work (but it does make some when I turn on the computer - but then nothing).

When I watch a YouTube or Hulu video there is no sound.

When I watch an instant Netflix video sound DOES WORK. This is currently the only sound I am getting from this computer.
What I have done so far:

-Unistalled/reinstalled Adobe Flash.

-Rolled back the sound driver.

-Fiddled with all the sound settings I could find in the CP.
Also, I have reason to believe that an update did not install correctly.
Any help/ideas is appreciated. I am sick of searching the bottomless pit of information AKA the Internet.

Bryan

A:Not so typical sound problems

Also when I test the Windows sounds in the CP it will make the sounds, but not outside of the test!

I guess there are a lot of these problems, so I am glad I came here. Currently I am running in safe mode with networking because Windows 7 will not start normally. I can select which user account, and then every time, while the account is loading, the system goes into a freeze and the blue screen appears. There is always a stop message and sometimes there is even a driver identified (something.sys). I cannot even reinstall from the Win7 installation disk because the freeze happens during installation setup. Some time ago, I took my PC to get serviced because it would freeze, but with no BSOD, just totally lock up, had to press and hold the power button to restart. They did not specifically identify the problem, and at that time, I upgraded to Win7 from Vista. The freeze problems stopped until a month ago, and I ran checks, scans, virua protections, and uninstalled programs like limewire that allow automatic access to the computer. Then the freezing stopped completely, and for a month or so, no pb, until just a few days ago, the computer froze, blue screen comes up, and that is how things have been since. Every time I try to login normally.
I dont know if any of that history helps. I tried system restore, didnt work. Tried to reinstall, froze. I am going to try the driver verifier program next to see if there are drivers in err, but I think this problem may be more deeply rooted...??? Luckily in safe mode I can back my files up, just in case I need to give this machi... Read more

Ok, long story as short as possible: I'm having the mup.sys issue.

I used to have a dual-boot, PIII, with 98 and 2K SP4. After my 2K crashed, I decided I needed a new OS. So I got a burned version of XP Pro SP2. however, during the install (after wiping that old partition), windows detected an error and could not continue after the first part of install. So I wiped my 98 partition as well, making a clean HD. When I installed XP again, voila, the installation went the whole nine yards. then as it was rebooting, it just stopped for about 3 seconds on a blank screen, and restarted. I tryed Safe mode, and while loading it stopped at mup.sys and just restarted again. So now, i have looked over the net, and i have found nothing but solution beyond my grasp (price-wise). The only other solution possible is using the Windows Recovery disk, which i DO NOT HAVE. I have an install disk for XP Pro SP2, a CD-key, and absolutely nothing more. I NEED HELP!!!

A:mup.sys after install, not a typical case

Normally, when you put in the install disk, at the install screen it will allow you to run the recovery program.

It should look like this:

Try running that if you can. Let us know if you can't.

Hey guys,

I'm currently having a pretty damn frustrating problem. I have a custom built PC that was running (now not running) Windows Vista. Out of the blue, no pun intended, I started getting the BSOD for no apparent reason. I've had two recurring error output messages along the lines of EITHER: 1) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL with a 0x000000A OR 2) STOP: 0x0000007E with no title and a slew of various characters after the 7E.

Obviously, my first attempted solution was to repair the Vista installation. Not possible. When I put the Vista disc in, 32 or 64-bit, I'll get the BSOD while it's trying to load the setup. Eventually, I popped in Gparted, a partitioning tool, and reformatted the HDD hosting the Vista installation. Many times, my computer won't even recognize the Vista disc. It doesn't make any sense. To make sure my computer wasn't completely dysfunctional, I tried to install Linux Mint, and it was a complete success! That's fantastic and all, but I need to have my Vista installation back on there.

Even after wiping the hard drive completely clean, I get the BSOD while trying to even get to the beginning of a new Vista installation, yet Linux Mint floats on without a problem. I researched the errors a little bit, but it hasn't helped at all.

Does anyone have any ideas? Please? I am at a loss.

Also, I apologize for not following the BSOD posting instructions, but I don't know how to follow those instructions if Vista isn't even usable.

First off, thanks in advance for helping me out! :) I'm here because my computer has been giving me random pop-up ads, sometimes even if no browser is open. In addition my computer is running slow. (I know there's a sticky section on that, which I'll read right after I post this!) Webpages are loading slowly, Firefox will randomly stop responding, etc. I had BitComet on my computer but uninstalled the program before doing this. I did, however, move all the things I downloaded to another folder. (Mainly MP3's, but some also have text files, cd covers, as well as .bc! files, which means the program didn't complete downloading the file.)
Also, I'm in the process of backing up my files, but I'm wondering, should I save it to the D: drive already on my computer? Isn't that what it's meant for? I also have an external hard drive, but isn't there a chance some files are contaminated?

I've got everything on the checklist. I've attached the Attach.zip folder.
By the way, just thought I should mention that after I ran gmer.exe and closed the program, I get a pop-up telling me that gmer.exe may not have downloaded properly. I deleted the first one I downloaded, ran it again, and it said the same thing. The results of the scan were the same each time.

And here is the log from DDS.txt

Hi, I'm having some minor problems related to Binkw32.dll .
Now, I've read a ton of different threads and random Know-How On how to to some basics to fix and issue im having with it, and all the issue is, is typically I got the error with my cracked version of a game. Now the only issue is, is that the game ISN'T installed yet and im just getting the "Binkw32.dll is not found" when clicking my Setup file. I've tried restarting my computer (Obviously), and I've extracted the file to my system32 directory. I've tried to use command prompt to manually "Regsvr32 -File-Name-" and Still nothing works. People have told me to install it in my Game Folders Directory, BUT I DON'T HAVE ONE.
It's just a pain in the *** spending Days trying to find the right download then having these issues. I guess my main concern is that maybe Binkw32.dll May not be compatible with my Windows 7 and I worried that it might have been a wast of time.

Any suggestions?

I am your typical newbie to networking. I built a new machine and want to use my old one as a workstation. I have been through all the set up wizards on xp and the setup discs for secondary pc's. The first time I did this everything worked great except the network kept constantly dialing the internet. I turned off the work station and when I rebooted nothing worked again.

I intend to use this network for lan parties if I ever get the hang of setting up a secondary pc with out screwing things up.

Any info would greatly appreciated

Interesting hypothetical question for you.

What is the typical lifespan of the different pieces of hardware inside a computer, provided that the computer is used daily for work and gaming on average of about 6 or 7 hours per day?

I'm on my final year of warranty and it is a good thing that I still have a warranty too because I just had a video card and CD-RW drive die on me in the last two months after having them for about two years.

I'm getting sick and tired of having to keep getting different parts and pieces replaced. Are these two things fluke or are things meant to only last about two or so years?

I'm wondering if I should start saving up if something else decides to go again after the warranty expires.

Opinions? How long has your hardware lasted? What have you guys had to replace and how long was their lifespan?

Good day everyone,

I am trying to find what are the materials used in making the components of a membrane switch keyboard ( specifically a genius series KB110 keyboard).

I have looked it up myself, however, what I found is a broad answer of plastic, instead of the specific material.

The key matrix and the PCB materials are my main points of interest, I would like your help on the matter.

Sorry if this is not the place for this type of topic.

All the best

Hi,
I've a PC :-
Celeron 1.7 MHZ, 40 GB HDD,256 MB DDR-SDRAM, Intel 854 GL based M/B(ATX), 15" CRT Monitor, 52X CD-ROM Drive & a 600 VA UPS as a peripheral. I've a 250 W SMPS.

How much power do you think it consumes?

Thanks.

A:Power Consumption of a typical PC

Abeer_d
If you are calculating Possible Power usage to see if you Power Supply can handle the load then have a look at This Site
The figures are for Maximum Utilization but I would still add a minimum of 10% for safety.
Note: Most cases the Monitor will not figure into the equation but if you wish to know its consumption there should be a label on it somewhere defining such.

Hope that helps.
