Turning off a Lenovo Yoga 11e Chromebook when it is frozen

Q: Turning off a Lenovo Yoga 11e Chromebook when it is frozen

I was using my charged Lenovo Yoga 11e Chromebook when the screen went dark and the power button is now continuously blinking, I have tried holding down the power button (which normally would turn it off) however this has not worked. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just something that we as a schoolboard found out about these devices, is that they use a magnet to sense when the lid is closed.  This issue that this causes is that if you have the devices stacked on top of each other that the magnet from the device below will stop the top one from turning on.  Some of our techs had them stacked while they were trying to enroll a large number of devices.  This is just an FYI.

Just got a brand new Lenovo Yoga 710 laptop today and within hours of using it has completely frozen. Was watching a YouTube video and suddenly it froze and I can't turn it off, the keys aren't working, nothing is responding at all. All I see is a frozen image on the screen and a lit up keyboard. I tried holding down the power button but nothing happens. What do I do?

Hi, yestarday I was using my laptop with several opened applications and 1 hangouts video call active.Well, the CPU has decided to freeze at 0.5 GHz due to the generated heat. The laptop of course became unusable, so I closed everything and restarted the system. Once the reboot was completed I noticed that frequency was still at 0.5 GHz. Then I ran an Ubuntu live usb and I checked the CPU: again, still at 0.5GHz. I came back to Windows 10, I made a bit of research and I used ThrottleStop. I unticked the BD Prochot and then the laptop came back to life with frequency at 2.9 GHz (for the sake of precision it works even without turning on Throttle stop...you only need to launch the app and untick the prochot). Now, the problem is that I can use the laptop with all its capabilities only after I run Throttle stop. In all the other cases, even when I boot my laptop, frequency is at 0.5 GHz (and you understand it is working at low frequency because it lags a lot). Investigating a bit, I found that only motherboard replacement can fix this issue.....really? What do you think? Do you any kind of solution?

I just purchased my Lenovo Yoga 260 Thinkpad and turned it on for the first time today. It initially walked me through the set up, wherein I picked my language and time zone, and then entered my email and chose my home wifi, then set up the fingerprint recognition. Next step I believe it said it was going to restart and then it went to the blue screen with the "Just a moment" message. That was abut 3 hrs ago. It went to sleep with that screen on and when I woke it up, that screen is still on. I turned the computer off and on again and still that screen is on. This is a BRAND NEW COMPUTER. I have terrible luck with computers and am not very computer savvy.  Is there a Lenovo Help phone # to call? I can't find one on this site... What do I do next?

A:Lenovo Yoga 260 Thinkpad BRAND NEW frozen on blue screeen

Hi MS12,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Aside from allowing the battery to fully drain and go off on its own to have a fresh start since it is a new computer, it would be better calling in technical support at 800-426-7378 24 hours/day 7 days/week.

It would seem to have more of a Windows update issue here but do call them to best provide you immediate options to try.

Hope this help answer your query.

The laptop was working just fine, then all of a sudden shut off on its own. I thought the battery might've ran out, so I plugged it in, tried to power it on but did not power on, even after hours of charge. The white light on the side is lit when plugged in, and the keyboard lights up for 1 second when pressing the power button before shutting back down. I've done the hold the power button for 15 seconds, release, hold for another 15 trick, but all that happens are the fans turning on high-mode for 2 seconds then shutting back off. I'm decently tech savvy and build my own computers, but just not laptops. This says to me the motherboard is still intact and isn't having an issue communicating with parts. If I were to guess on the next thing, it'd be the battery failing. I don't hear any beeps or anything, which usually occurs with CPU errors, and with the screen/system not turning on, I can't diagnose if the m.2 ssd is failing (most likely not the issue). I've found this maintenance manual online to replace parts, but unsure if this is a common issue that others are having, and which part should I look into replacing (if any). I don't have an active warranty on this anymore but prefer to not spend a couple of hundred of dollars at a repair shop. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The screen is just completely black. The backlight on the keyboard is on, the light for my charging port and power button are on, but the screen won?t come on. I can hear the fans and everything going, just not the screen. It used to play sound but now the sound isn?t even working. I?ve tried fully shutting it off and turning back on, but that doesn?t work. Sometimes the screen turns back on and I can use it, but then if I close it the screen turns off for good again.

Hi guys, I had a Yoga Pro 2 but I got it replaced by Lenovo under warranty because it was having some major major issues. They sent me a Yoga 900 and I am already noticing problems with its connection to my bluetooth mouse. I used this same bluetooth mouse on my Yoga Pro 2 and it always connected fine without any problems at all but with my Yoga 900 it seems that the mouse will be connected for 5 minutes max and then the Yoga 900 will no longer recognize the mouse. Any help is appreciated, this is very frustrating and I have had been having a lot of problems with Lenovo's devices. Their warranty is great but I am getting tired of so many problems for such expensive machines.

Similar problem here.  Yoga 900 just a couple of months old, and I decided to try a bluetooth mouse.  It connected and worked just fine for a couple of minutes and then stopped.  Windows still says the mouse is paired and connected, but it doesnt work.  Turn bluetooth off, turn mouse off, remove mouse from bluetooth devices, re pair mouse and it works for a couple of minutes and then stops.  Lather, rinse, repeat.  I'm hoping this is a Windows problem and not a Lenovo problem, but if anyone finds a solution I would love to hear it.

My Lenovo Yoga is not turning on, no screen lights, key board lighting, or light next to power button is on. But when I plug it in the charging light turns on (see pictures). I have tried re-seating the ram, taking out the ac adapter and holding the power button for 30 seconds to a minute, and took out the battery pin and tried the same but to no avail. It still doesn't work. But, when I hold the power button with the battery plugged in, this fan on the back turns on for a few seconds. There isn't any CMOS battery that I could find, even on the other side of the motherboard. I also used two cables that work with another laptop, and still it wouldn't turn on. The One-Key button does not work either.Picture of Charging light on: Link to IMGPicture of inside: Link to IMGPlease do not ask me for the model number because I really do not know it. Can you try to press and hold the Reload key + Power button for 10secs to force shutdown the system. Once the machine turns off, try to turn it back ON and observe the machine's functionality.

This morning, my laptop seemed to be working fine. I was on it for about half an hour but once I got home, and waited a few hours before using it, I went to turn it on and all it displays is a gray screen. This gray screen is smooth at first, but slowly deteriorates to a display such as this: Laptop Display Example  I really can't do anything else because this screen appears right after startup, and blocks me from using it any other way. If you look close to the deterioated screen, you can see tiny dots of different color. Buttons such as the wifi button, brightness levels, and the capslock still function. The screen will brighten or darken, and the lights on the other two keys turn on and off normally when clicked.  This upsets me because I have only had this laptop for about two years, the warranty is finished, and I've had so many issues with this laptop from the software to problems with Windows 8. I didn't do anything to damage the screen, and no one comes into my room who could have damaged it.  Also, I have tried removing the battery and removing the charger ( which it can't run more than 10 minutes without ) and letting it cool down, but when I turn the laptop back on, I recieve the same response. My laptop is an HP b011nr, at least that's what it says after 'model' on the bottom of my laptop. Bear with me, I'm not much of a computer person.

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

A photo colleague dumped his Chromebook on my lap (gratis) with some [email protected]#$ comments ... I will not comment as to why, and I thought this could replace my clunky W540 for pre made portfolio/slide or video presentations. OK, here is the deal.  The Cloud storage is nice, but I'm off on the road with no WiFi, at a client's house. Last time I tested the Chrome Cloud, the presentation 'stuttered' and the flow was disconcerting, and was a discredit to my abilities. I have mutliple prsentations, and 16gb is not enough, particularly when visiting distinct client with different or multiple  portfolio requirements. Is there any way to change the 16gb standard card to a 64gb (There are now 200gb micro SD cards!): Sandisk 200GB SD - The future. I hate to fiddle with the built in SD port, not counting the potential loss of these tiny cards.  I would like it to be an  internal or at least sealed and protected from accidental 'pop-outs'. As the eMMC is actually built on the SD card protocol, can I open and replace the meager 16gb with a more modern larger storage for of WiFi use. Any hack or hints before I pass this unit off, would be appreciated.  Incredible 'oyster' closure system.  Even the Chrome Pixel has a lid finger catch groove.

I do have and use the "SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive":  Did not try it in Chromebook yet, as the Google Store does not seem to have the Chrome extension.  It does play well on my Adroids (Cell and Tablet). Sandisk Wireless Media drive. That may be a way to go if I can get it to work as just a raw drive using some workaround software controls.  I guess another workaround and something else to carry & lose.

Last week, I purchased a refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad 11e Yoga Chromebook.  When I received it, it was sealed in the original packaging with a sticker indicating that it had been refurbished at a Lenovo facility.  When I turned it on, I got stuck at the Enterprise Enrollment screen.  It seems that it was registered to the domain of the original owner and would not let anyone login without credentials for that domain.  The trackpad was also non-responsive, but I figured once I logged in, I could toggle the trackpad settings and get it working. There was a link to contact Google for help with this, so I followed those instructions.  Google said that they could not help me, and that I'd need to contact the original owner to have them de-register the device.  Since I had no connection to the original owner, I contacted the seller who apologized and told me that, since the device had a full warranty, Lenovo should be able to fix the issue. So, I contacted Lenovo for help on Sunday.  The Tech Support Agent that I spoke to first tried to tell me to return the device and get something that ran Windows since Chrome OS and Android are inferior(!).  Anyway, once I assured him that I did indeed want a Chromebook and knew all about Chrome OS, he told me that I could send it in for repair, and that all they'd need to do was wipe the system and re-install the OS with a consumer image instead of the enterprise image that was on the m... I recently got the 4k version of the yoga chromebook: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/yoga/yoga-c-series/Yoga-Chromebook/p/88YGCC61096 Part number: 81JX0008UX I've noticed that occasionaly with this laptop my pointer will lag insanely and not respond to small inputs for multiple minutes at a time.  At the time it occurs there isn't high CPU load or memory load. It occurs with the touchpad and the mousepad. It occurs when I do and do not have any peripherals attached. Closing the lid, letting the laptop sleep, then waking it back up has helped once so far. I usually just hard reboot as a workaround. I've seen review articles mention freezing as well, which were chalked up to running linux apps, which I did not run when this started, but are running now: https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/02/22/lenovo-yoga-chromebook-c630-4k-review/ I'm running Version 73.0.3683.88 (Official Build) (64-bit), and this has occurred across multiple verison of Chrome OS. It first occured the first time I started using the laptop and signed into my account. I restored from a USB flash drive which appeared to resolve the issues for multiple days whereupon it started happening again. Has anyone else seen this? What's the support option here since I've already wiped the chromebook? Must it be a hardware problem?

Everything else is off like the ThinkPad light. It is draining my battery power and I looked through support and I couldn't get any help from it. I have the latest Chrome OS (Version 39). I believe it could be a hardware problem but if it is a software problem, can you please advise me on how to fix this problem.  Thank you

Any help at all? I desperately need help.  I found out that some other people who got the same laptop as mine have this problem and some don't.

Has any one out in ChromebookLand been able to use the acclaimed system to show picture full screen from sets of jpg files? Due to the puny memory capacity, and difficult to work with external SD card slot, I tried to connect a Sandisk Media drive. The Media drive connects very well, but the display operations of pictures is just not professional.  The keystrokes are quasi not functional or not present.  When giving the show, I need to waste time explaing the customer what to do, and the 'slides' are not full screen, but small.  The colors ARE GREAT, but that is about it. As an aisde, any one ever wonder why the letters are in lower case????  My 5 year old asked me.
