I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Firefox won?t connect to a network. The WiFi icon has disappeared from my task bar; the icon is enabled and won?t show up in actions. In Network and Internet Settings there is no WiFi option. For Network Status it just shows a line and won?t show status at all, troubleshooting does nothing, network reset did nothing. My friends who?s good with computers had no idea.

I?m awful with technology and have tried to follow several help walkthroughs but none seem to have my problem and don?t work. I recently followed some tutorials to speed up my laptop because it was super slow and I don?t know whether I messed something up so it doesn?t register WiFi anymore.

Can somebody please help me or send a link to another tutorial?

Hi i have a hp probook 4530s. I recently installed a new norton security package upon restart the wifi icon amd every thing to do with wifi has dissapeared. There is a wifi on off button on the keypad area and when i press it, all that seems to happen is the Bluetooth turns on/off i have looked in the network adapters amd nothing is there. Its like wifi option has just got up and left my laptop. I recently upgraded to windows 10 and when i went to the hp support site they dont provide drivers for windows 10 as i was going to try install the drivers for wifi again. Im stumped can anyone help?

A:Wifi / Wifi icon has left my laptop

I remember seeing a post on the HP Forums about this, but just now, I can't find it. From what I remember, this was a known problem with the new Norton security package. You should check the Norton security forums to see about this as they probably have a fix for it.

All of a sudden, the wifi icon says "no connections are available", also in >ipconfig /all the wifi adapter does not show up. The icon sits there with a red X over it. It's an HP8710w with an Intel 4965AGN. It looks OK in the device manager. It works OK in Linux.
I have tried all attempts with manipulating the driver. Updating, deleting then restating - I would bet if you mention some maneuver regarding driver for the adapter I've probably tried it already in vain. I have some things in the services...I have looked at the error log yet. I tried Win7's self-diagnosis and self-fixing.
Before I do a reinstall of Win7, maybe there's other things I could try. Any suggestion appreciated.
Also I remember in XP there was a way to use the install disk to repair corrupted system files - not sure the steps for this in Win7(?) Would that help?
Any diagnostic info needed about please cite it and I will post. Thanks.

Hi, I?ve been having this problem for about a year in which my home laptop (a macbook air) won?t connect to my home wifi. It?s not the wifi, as other macs (younger, the same age, and older than mine) work on the wifi. My mac connects to my iphone hotspot, and it sometimes works at libraries and coffee shops (sometimes=like 20% of the time). I?ve grown frustrated with using my hotspot, as it takes so much data. I?ve tried renewing my DHCP thing, restarting, updating, turning wifi on and off, everything that I?ve ever read online about it, nothing works. Please help

Ok, I start with the FF problem:

An online browser-based game have problems showing one of their frames when I use firefox... It works fine with Explorer and Netscape. A few other players have the same problem: it won?t show anything!
I have tried on 2 different computers using win xp sp2, firefox 1.5 and 2.0 in normal and in safe mode.

More importantly: (not sure if this is related in some way)

I can?t open my bank site (I tell which one if necessary). It says that it doesn?t support my browser and I should use:

* PC i kombination med: Explorer 5.01 - 6.0
* Netscape 7.1

Macintosh i kombination med:
* Netscape 7.x

(sorry about the swedish language; it says "in combination with")
I have explorer 6, firefox 2, netscape 8... not one of them can enter their hompage.
And, btw, I can?t delete messages when I log in to hotmail.
-> Would like to be able to pay my bills in time this month <-

Heh... already looking for a new HDD to install a clean OS, but prefer to get this one working first - if possible!

Edit: When I boot from another HDD (same computer as in specs) it works fine.. .everything: bank site, game site, hotmail... yeah!

Any ideas, or similar problems, would be nice to know of...

A:some sites and/or frames won´t load properly

Which firewall are you using?
Netscape and Mozilla have the same source code and both are basically the same in foundation. Which site is the bank? I'd like to check please.
Do you have any extensions/themes installed in Firefox?
Which Firefox version is it - 2.0 or (check in Help>About)
Make sure to update to the latest one.

In XP, put the XP CD in your drive

Hi everyone.
I'm building a website right now and since yesterday, it seems that it won't load on my laptop, and only my laptop. I use a wifi network with this laptop.
The website is http://infocom.ca/rea-pathologies, and the error it gives is "Connection timed out".
I tried on Chrome, Firefox and Explorer, and I get the same problem
Here is a list of everything I tried, and all the information I could gather :
I tried loading the website on my smartphone (Galaxy S4), both with LTE and Wifi, it worked both times.
I tried loading the website on my laptop using my smartphone as a wifi access point, and it worked.
I tried pinging the website, it works. I tried loading the IP it returns in Chrome, but it won't work.
I tried rebooting my modem and my router, without success.
I reconfigured my router (D-Link, DIR-655), without success.
I checked the HOST file in system32, there is nothing there related to infocom.ca. I tried forcing the proper IP on infocom.ca, no success.
I tried ipconfig /flushdns, /release, /renew
I tried using both auto-detect DNS, OpenDNS and Google DNS in my IPv4 and IPv6 settings, with no success.
I tried the diagnostic tool, tells me everyting is fine.
I tried turning off Windows firewall, nothing happened.
I scanned my PC with Anti Spywares, without results
I tried everything the user SLOOKSTERPSV suggests on this post, without success: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1750739.html

Hi everyone. Yesterday, while at school, I downloaded and installed WAMP on my laptop, and this seems to have caused my computer to be unable to load any webpages.

Before I knew about WAMP, I was partway through setting up Windows IIS (I think), and I had enabled it in the "Turn Windows Features On or Off" menu. After installing WAMP, I fiddled a bit with the stuff in the toolbar menu, like starting/stopping services, installing Apache through the menu, etc. to get the icon to go green. Once it did I went to "localhost" in Chrome and was brought to some Microsoft welcome page that seemed to be related to their IIS service. Thinking this was not the page I should be seeing, I disabled IIS in the Windows Features menu, and restarted my computer. Upon trying to reopen the Chrome tabs I had, nothing loaded. The only thing that showed up was a page that said "This webpage is not available" with a message below in smaller text that said "ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED".

Also, I was able to ping servers (tried and through command prompt's "ping" command at multiple times yesterday. At one point while I was home, I power-cycled my modem. After this I was able to ping websites by name, such as google.com and facebook.com, and I was also able to load facebook's website in Chrome. I didn't try loading Google. This only lasted for about a minute, and the same ping command returned "Ping request could not find hos... Read more

A:Laptop won’t start up

Hi Koldys,Thanks for posting.Apologies that your computer is not working as expected.Have you tried taking the battery out and using the adapter plugged in?  If it works, then it would indicate the battery has failed.  If it still does not work, then the charging/power circuit is probably at fault.  If that's the case, the motherboard would have to be replaced.

Latitude E6520 running Windows 10. Was working fine and then 2 days ago the wifi dropped and won't go back on.

When I boot up, the wifi icon shows black and white with the little asterisk. I can click on it and see my network, and my neighbors, all showing up fine. However, after I click to try to join the network, it thinks for a bit and then says: Can't connect to this network. Even if I put in the wrong passcode I get the same error so it's never getting far enough to even validate that.

After I click Close to that, the Wifi icon then shows with a red/white x. I can then no longer see any wifi networks available at all. After a minute or so the red/white 'x' goes away and I can then try again but get the exact same results.

The network card that was in the laptop (DW1530) didn't technically have a Windows 10 driver from Dell so I took a card from a different laptop that is supported (DW1504) but it has the exact same results.

I also tried connecting to a different wifi and got the exact same results.

Anyone have any idea what might be causing this or how I can fix it? My other laptops, phones, Fire TV stick, etc can all connect to the router just fine. The laptop was just reimaged a week or so ago and worked fine for a few days before this happened.

My laptop had a problem with the hard drive (or so it seemed because it was unable to load up) What happened with the laptop was I tried to turn it on, the computer will load for a few seconds, then it will turn off. (So it never made even to the Windows logo screen).

My friend took it to the technician and the technician said it was a hard drive failure and needed to buy a new hard drive and install Windows onto it. The technician was going to charge $165 for new hard drive and Windows installation.

I thought $80 for a new hard drive than another $85 for a installation was overpriced. So I ordered the hard drive on my own and planned on replacing the hard drive myself.

So, I replaced the hard drive. What is going on now is that if I press the power button, I see the red light on the power button. Then in less than 5 seconds or so, the computer goes off. There is nothing on the screen during those 5 seconds.

This laptop is quite broken down, the CD Rom sometimes does not work. But regardless, with less than 5 seconds, it was quite hard to even eject the cd-rom. So I am not quite sure how am I supposed to go on and continue with the installation and such if the computer does not even turn itself on.

Now, is this really a hard drive problem or something else? Please help. Thank you very much in advance.

A:Laptop hard drive replaced, won’t boot up properly, shuts off in less than few second

$165 is actually a reasonable price.

If you remove the new drive, does it still shut down in 3 seconds?

Hi there,i just unpacked my laptop from a flight and now it suddenly doesn?t turn on anymore.when I press the power button nothing happens, no indicator leds, nothing. When I release the button I hear that thud noise you hear when you manually kill a laptop by keeping the button down. Now the weirdest thing: when I plug in the adaptor the fans start spinning like crazy, immediately when I plug it in, I don?t even need to push the power button.the same thing happens when the laptop is unplugged and I keep the power/reset button down for a longer time, the fans start spinning out of control but no leds, no nothing, and they immediately stop when I let go.If anyone has any clue how this could be or what to do please tell me. I will contact the seller on Monday (I have had this laptop for 2.5 years, thank god the insurance runs for three years) but as I?ve just moved to another country I?m not sure if that?s going to work out.Any help or suggestions appreciated.

It was working day before yesterday.

The Tray icon only shows the network/Ethernet adapter; the wifi icon is missing. Normally I'd click on the wifi icon to connect to wifi networks; that option is not available. Instead I get "Not Connected - No Connections Available." (If I plug in an Ethernet cable, that message goes away. But I need wifi!)

I head into the "Settings" app, choose "Network & Internet", and the topmost tab is "Airplane Mode"; the "Wifi" tab is missing from the Settings app.

I head into the control panel, network and internet, network connections, change adapter settings, and my Wi-Fi adapter is there, enabled, and full green signal strength.

"Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6235"

Disabled it and reenabled it to see if that would help, didn't help. Rebooting (twice) didn't help. Full power reset (press-hand-hold power button for 5 seconds) and restart didn't help.

Ran network troubleshooter, it says there may be an issue with the wifi adapter's device driver; it tried to fix it but failed. So I manually updated the device driver in the Properties dialog; that seemed to actually install a new driver (based on how long it took) but it didn't help.

I wonder if there was a recent auto-update for this device that's causing a problem? Or is there some way behind the scenes to hook up this device (who's driver seems to be working) with the windows 10 app (which isn't recogn... Read more

A:WiFi Settings Tab Missing; WiFi Tray Icon Missing

OK I solved it this way:

in control panel, network and internet, network connections, change adapter settings:
1) disabled the adapter
2) uninstalled the driver (removing from disk)
3) deleted the adapter (right-click didn't let me do it; the option was disabled, but I could delete it by pressing the "del" key while selected)
4) refreshed the view (f5) and saw that the adapter was no longer in the list
5) went to the device manager
6) removed the device
7) chose "find new hardware", the device showed up in the list again
8) rebooted.

I was connected to the internet through an Ethernet cable connection while I did this; it may have helped but I'm not sure.

The one with the monitor and the Ethernet cable is showing that the Ethernet connection is working.

Usually if an Ethernet cable is plugged in it will override the Wireless connection and Windows will choose the Ethernet connection. If you unplug the cable it will go back to using the wireless connection.

Does anyone know how to change this icon back to a WiFi icon? This is on my laptop and it is really annoying that I see this instead of the signal strength of the network I am connected to. Also, whenever I move the mouse over the icon to see the network I am connected to (I have two) it always displays the wrong router name until I click on the button that opens the WiFi connect window. I don't know why this is like this but it seemed to have happened after I plugged in my Ethernet to transfer some files to my Xbox. It has never returned to the original icon since then.

Any help would be appreciated,

Is there an arrow just on the left of the icons ? If so, click that and it should show the full range of icons available, one of which should be your signal strength. What you are seeing is the icon for your ethernet connection status(not connected at present)

Computer just turned off automatically today and it will not load past the begining load screen with the Alien Head load screen where you can press f2 and enter setup or f12 to boot options. I cannot load safe mode or remove the battery as it does not have any place to access it.
Windows 7. Alienware m14x.

Any fans running, any post beeps? Your laptop does not have a CMOS battery. Try removing the chargeable battery and power adapter. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Plug in just the power adapter and try powering up the machine again.

I've read through hundreds of posts trying to figure out my issue. Unfortunately, I've been unsuccessful.

Here's the issue, I was given a new laptop for work and it connects fine to our secure wireless network at the office, but when I brought it home it will not connect to my wireless network at home.

When I try to connect to my network at home the wireless manager sits and spins saying "trying to acquire network address". I have 2 iPhones, 1 eMachine and 1 Macbook connected to my network working fine and dandy. However, the HP laptop from work simply won't connect unless wired.

I have tried the following:
1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.
2. Power Cycled my Router
3. Power Cycled my entire network
4. WinsockXPFix tool

I'm completely at a loss here. No idea what to do to fix this. I'm running Windows XP and have a 2Wire router.

I appreciate any advice anyone can give me to help solve this annoyance.
