I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: windows xp auto delete

Well, I have never heard of that before. Perhaps you have a virus on your computer.

Download HijackThis. Unzip it. Run a scan, and save the log file. Copy and paste the log file, along with your problem, into a new thread on the HijackThis Log Help Forum (not this forum). The analysts will scan your log file to check for any malicious programs running on your system (viruses, trojans, worms, spyware, etc). If anything is found, they will provide you with steps to thoroughly cleanse your computer.

Hi all, I created a Windows Credential (Control Panel/Credential Manager/Windows Credential/Add a Windows Credential) for my external Synology NAS so that I don't have to input my NAS username and password each time I want to map the NAS as a drive in Windows Explorer. The strange thing is that the credential is created successfully but after a certain time, or after reboot it disappears from the list as if auto deleting itself. Any idea whats happening? Thanks

how can I delete them from auto filling where they are stored or save to

A:How to delete auto fill

That's controlled through the browser's own settings. In the menu bar>Tools>Options open up the Privacy tab and simply change the "remember history" item to the "never remember history" alternate from the dropdown list of choices. That should remedy that for you.

Note how that looks in the image here.

With my HTJ log I can see references to some programs which are used very infrequently - steam, photoshop, messenger, quick time and some which seem to be just auto updaters - realsched, google, sonic. Is it possible to turn off the auto updaters?

If so is it best to do so via 'fix checked' button within HJT or should I look for other ways to do it

Many thanks

A:Is it okay to delete via HJT auto updaters

Do not fix anything in HiJackThis without knowing for sure what you're doing.

If you want to prevent certain startup entries from auto-loading and running, uncheck them in

Start - Run - MSCONFIG - OK - "Startup" tab

If you want to prevent certain service entries from auto-loading and running, change their "startup type" from Automatic to Manual in

This is sereiously trying my patience. I am trying to annoy my little bro by using backorrifice to mess around with my old PC he uses. So I install the server and all just fine (he has XP) on his pc. I then go to mine and try to install the client. I drag the files out of their .zip, and some of them dont extract, they just dont appear. I kno Win 7 is doing this since I did the same with netbus and it kept deleting the setup.exe I saved. I have Windows Defender and my AV disabled while I do this. Someone help me please. This is really annoying now.

Wow, you have a LOT of programs loaded on that ME machine. Let's start you out by running some tools.....

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Go to this site to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Download and install Spybot S&D. Run Spybot and click on the Search for Updates button. Install any updates if they are available. Next click on the Check for Problems button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello Leen, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Unfortunately Windows Backups are not deleted automatically. They are created until you run out of HDD space, then you get a notice to manage your backups to manually delete the ones you do not want to free up HDD space.

I recently installed AVG 8.0 free prior to the 7.5 product being discontinued.

It found a false positive inside an archive and decided to delete the file.
Since the file was within an archive, AVG apparently decided to delete the archive.
And I guess the archive was too large as it has been completely deleted (not moved to the vault).

The offending (false positive) file was an OS/2 library to allow UNIX compatibility (emx: omflib.a)

I recommend when installing this software that you change the settings to disallow scanning inside archives and automatic file deletion.

Hidy ho all,

I wanted to know if there was a program that would automatically download email attachments from an email address, then delete those attachments on the server?

I know outlook can do that, but this would be on a server, and outlook can be quite the resource hog when running for long periods of time (IE months, or years). As such, I can't really afford to use anything more then something very lightweight.

Mind you, I'm only interested in downloading the attachments, I couldn't care less about the emails in question.

Edit: I'm also not wanting to store those attachments in some sort of mail file only a mail client can read and pull data out of. it would be like me clicking on the file to download it, choosing where to save it, then downloading it.

A:Auto Download Attachments and Delete from server

Not really. Since the email is on a server not under your control, you have no idea if and when the email and attachment is finally gone.

Does anyone know of a way to auto delete the internet explorer history on browser shutdown?

I have had several patrons ask me about this.(I administer a Public Library network)

The patrons do not have the option of restarting the computer and pulling a new mandatory roaming profile. I really don't want to give them access to the internet options toolbar so they can mess around with the settings. Trying to use a batch file running from the command prompt does not work either due to the way the history is stored.

Hello, recently i've tryed to download a zip file with an .exe file in it. At first, I clicked open (I used WinRar to open the zip file) and I extracted the contents to a file in C:/ drive. Once extracted, I noticed that the exe file was missing and all
the other files were there. So, I went and redownloaded the zip file and saved it to the C:/. Once saved, I opened the Zip file with Winrar again and highlighted the .exe file and retried to extracted it and I also monitored the file that the exe was suppost
to be in. I noticed that once it got done extacting, the exe file appeared for 1 second and disappeared. I tried extacting over and over again and the same results. I went online and download 7-Zip (Another Zip file opener) and tried extracting using that,
same results. I thought that it might have a virus or something. I turned off Windows 7 Firewall, D.E.P., and Avast Anti-Virus. Same Results. Also when I was using WinRar, an error popped up saying that the file could not be excuted sometimes. The zip file
can be saved on my computer with the exe file in it, but when I try to extracted it outside the Zip file. It disappears fast. Please help me! I don't care if there is a virus on it at this point. Please tell me how to fix it.

A:An Annoying Exe File Auto delete problem!

Hi,
The issue can be caused by following factors:
1. Virus.
2. Your Anti-Virus applications may detect the exe file as virus and have the policy to delete virus automatically.

Therefore, you can try these methods to determine the issue.
1. Running your security applications to scan your system to check whether there are viruses in your system.
2. Boot your system into
Clean Boot Modeto check whether your Anti-Virus applications delete the exe file.
3. If above methods failed to help you, you can run
resource monitorto detect which process did the track.

Hope this helps. Please remember to click ?Mark as Answer? on the post that helps you, and to click ?Unmark as Answer? if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

Here are some pics of what I see.

Through msconfig, I see one OS

However, 7's default OS menu shows me both

Then bsdedit shows me 7 as a option, but also shows Auto Super Grub

How can I delete Auto Super Grub from showing up on boot?

A:How can I delete Auto Super Grub from showing up on boot?

Some more info

What happened:
1. I installed Linux on my D partition with win 7 on my C partition
2. I didn't like the grub menu and wanted the windows startup menu instead so I used Super Grub
3. I used the help process (don't remember it exactly, but had something to do with fixing windows mbr)
4. Said it was successful and needed to reboot.
5. Upon reboot, it said something about not being able to boot and "press any key to restart"... and if you press any key, it just repeated that message. This appears right after Bios load.
6. So I boot linux off a USB and reformatted/reinstalled linux on my D partition, so I had grub back again
7. I reinstalled win 7 and thus the win 7 boot screen came back, but Auto Boot Grub Disk still appeared as a startup option
8. I removed linux from D partition and reformatted D to be ntfs
9. Still currrent problem persists

I have Word 2002, SP3, for Windows Office XP Pro.

My problem is I want to permanently turn OFF the autocorrect options (all of them: correct initial capitals, correct first letters of days, etc etc, autoformat, as well as auto text and auto type).

Yes, I have unchecked all the boxes in Tools > Autocorrect Options, the problem is I have to painstakingly go though all the boxes every time I open Word and uncheck them. My setups are not remembered.

I can't figure out how to make these options stay set this way.

I've tried installing the Office Resource Kit and setting a system policy (though I am the only user on this PC), but no success.

I had to rebuild my system a month ago -- before that, I never had any problems, Word seemed to remember exactly my preferred set up and saved autocorrect options etc to the normal template.

I checked the normal template and it is in Doc Settings folder where it should be.

I searched the forums and Word help but can't seem to find any advice, mainly because most people usually run these options and they only wish to modify the instances where they apply, rather than permanently disable them.

Please help! Much appreciated! Thanks!

IF ANYONE HAD EVER ENCOUNTERED THE FOLLOWING SITUATION, PLEASE GIVE ME A HAND. WILL APPRECIATE.

I use the "Outlook Express" for my email for years, no problem.
I had been using ISP for my email server and have my own email account set up, so far so good.
I had checked the box "delete from mail server after deleting from trash" and it works out just good. This is because, no need to log-on the mail server each time to clean up the read emails by hand, this way could release enough space for receiving email. Is because the ISP charge on over-quota space for emails, or just will block excess emails over the allowed space.
The problem started, when a friend told me could set the email folder away from the hard-drive C, I set it as per his suggestion. Then, the "auto-cleaning function" stopped performing.
I asked the ISP and was told because "Outlook Express" is designed by Mircosoft Inc. so they could not help.
Then, I set it back to the "defaulted folder", but the function could not be recovered.
This is quite annoying that I have to log-on the email server and clean up the emails daily by hand.

I see you have My Web Search installed. Do you use this?

Most of the time, this is actually malware.

Code:
C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe

Code:
every minute, every hour, every seconds.
That's a very broad piece of information. So you are saying sometimes
you get hours out of your PC before it shutsdown/hibernates?

You need to check Control Panel, Power Options. (screenshot)

Note the tabs. In this dialog you set your options and they are set for the Power Scheme shown. In Laptops, there are usually 2 schemes listed, one for AC powered and a separate for Battery powered.

Desktop OR AC powered Laptop, the only thing you MAY want to turn off is your Monitor.

Hello everyone. I'd like to know why win7 64bit decides by itself to auto refresh a window minute and literally the next second or two later it does not.
Lets say, I save a pic from the net, just before I go into the browser I already have my downloads folder open. I save a couple pics and I go back to the open folder and the pics are there at the bottom (I sort by date modified). I go back to the browser save another pic or anything, I go back to the folder and the pic or whatever is not there, so i have to refresh myself. I was just in that folder 10 seconds ago I seen no reason for it to not refresh now when it just did it 10 seconds ago. Now, I have not changed any setting regarding this or any explorer action. I can't even find an auto refresh option anywhere.
So how is this possible? What the heck is wrong with this OS?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I must say, I will soon be at my wits end with this OS. I paid $300 to spent more time organizing and moving files around. A lot more time. They have really screwed up explorer this time around. Explorer in XP was essentially perfect (I never even touched Vista on my machines. My wife has Vista). I'm starting to believe that win7 was just a money grab and that of the many problems with this OS will not be fixed in any hotfix or service packs, but win8 will be all better just as long as you spend another $300. A:Explorer windows auto refresh then don't auto refresh. Why?

We have a thread for this kind of thing. I can't find it at the moment. I think unsubscribed from it on accident, but I'm pretty sure its in general discussion. Explorer is working like it always does. It can be annoying that it doesn't always refresh, but I'm sure you can find a pattern, like how many added files it takes or how long it takes to "auto-refresh". The reason you don't here anything bad about Windows 7 is for three reasons. 1) you haven't looked hard enough. There are plenty of news stories with Mac lovers saying its Vista with a new paint job. 2) XP was as unstable as Charles Manson on Crack at the best of times when it first came out. 3) Vista was, well Vista. MS claimed it would run fine on 512MB of RAM, so people were installing it on old computers, and new computer were being bought that were seriously underpowered. When it wouldn't run worth a crap, everyone hated it. Not to mention the incompatibility issues that no one saw between 2000 and XP. If you didn't use Vista at all, the changes do seem a lot more drastic. If you don't like it, go back to XP SP3. Problem solved!!!!!!!
