I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I've searched the web endlessly trying to solve this problem with one of my laptops - without any luck at all. Hoping someone here is able to assist.

My main PC, 2 laptops, an iPhone and an iPad all connect to my home wifi network. All worked perfectly until 3 days ago.

The 2 laptops and my PC all run Windows 8.1 (all updated). 3 days ago my Toshiba Qosmio stopped being able to connect to my home network. All other devices still connect perfectly.

The Qosmio doesn't detect my wifi network. I immediately went to the network adapter's (Qualcomm Atheros) website and downloaded the latest driver. Installed it and for a brief (very brief) time it could once again detect and connect to the network. Last 3 days unable to either detect or connect.

It detects other networks fine, and has no problems connecting to any other network - except mine (doesn't even detect mine anymore). It connects to the iPhone (when used as a hotspot) without any issues.

I've uninstalled and re-installed the new driver, re-booted the wireless router (several times), re-set the router to factory settings, used Windows trouble shooter, checked & deleted the netsh profiles. Re-booted the laptop a dozen + times, disabled (& uninstalled software) for the laptop's Bluetooth.

It simply stopped working.

I've tried everything I can find on the web - without any success at all. I've had the laptop sitting only a few cm from the router.
Not sure where else I can go with this now... Read more

Hey all!

Few days ago I got Acer V5-531. On this laptop, I can easily connect to wireless networks, but my home one. I could do it on my old laptop with no problems. How is it possible to solve this? It's getting quite annoying, especially knowing that this is the only network I can't connect to. In case with this network, it prompts password and then says "Unable to connect".

What have I tried

Air Mode is off
Updating/rolling drivers back
Resetting the router once (owned by neighbor, thus, I cant perform all maintenance on it)
router lights are on
pw is correct
wireless switch is on
What else can be done?
Thanks all!

I am still able to connect to same wifi properly with my other laptop.

Can anybody please help me to solve this problem?

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Try removing all your wireless network profiles then reconnect to the desired Wi-Fi network, if it's encrypted make sure to type the correct pass-phrase.

Dear Community,

I am trying to get my XPS to connect to my 5 GHz home wifi network because there is far less interference and the speeds are therefore much higher. However, every time I try to connect, Windows 10 gives me the message Unable to connect to this network. The system can see the network but it refuses to connect. Other devices, such as my mobile phones connect to the network with no problem.
Here are my system details:

XPS 15 9550 (Skylake)
Win 10
Dell Wireless 1830 802.11ac Wireless Adapter (version 1.566.0.0)

When I set the same network (same router) to the 2.4 GHz band, the connection works without a problem. It seems that only the 5 GHz band is causing issues. I'm therefore guessing its an issue with the network card. However, I'm sure that it does support 5 GHz networks. Has anyone else encountered similar issues? Are there other drivers I can try?

I recently used this tool for the first time and used it to install all my latest Windows updates. Since then, the machine has never been able to connect to any WiFi network at all and the only option I have to connect to the internet is to physically connect the machine to my phone and use the its hotspot. Clicking on the list of available networks successfully displays all the networks in range, including my home networks - if I select my network and enter the password for it nothing happens - I am left with the greyed out wifi icon on the task bar with an asterisk in the top left hand corner of the icon. I have been through all the steps on the troubleshooter including going through all the NETSH commands on the command line and disabling all the network adapters but still nothing works. Note that I can successfully connect to the wifi networks from all the other devices in my house including my MacBook Air and my iPhone. This is a Yoga 910 512GB (16GB RAM) machine - has anybody else had this issue after proceeding with any updates recently?

Hi all.

I have an external hard drive permanantly plugged in which I install my games to and run from there.

Well, it crashed and I got it running again but now it won't run Sims 3. So I want to uninstall it and change over to my new hard drive.

When i try to uninstall it I get the message shown in the picture. It says the files are installed to drive F, but my hard drive is drive G. There is no F.

So. My question is - how can I remove any traces of Sims 3 from my computer? I don't care if there is anything left on the external hard drive because I'm getting rid of it. I just don't want anything left over on my computer.

Here is the deal. I am running Windows XP SP2 on my home tower (custom built). The tower is hardwired to a Linksys WRT54GS router. The tower does not have a wireless NIC. There are a few other computers that access this small network at various times.

The router is using WPA-PSK encryption. Wireless MAC address connectivity is enabled.

I bought an HP 1022NW Laserjet printer and tried connecting it to the wireless network using the enclosed getting started guide. I initially tried connecting it in ad hoc mode because I believe this is what I should use in my home office. No dice. Nothing was recognized. The only printing success I got was when I hooked an Ethernet cable directly to the router. After unplugging the cable, I had no luck printing wirelessly, even though I tried also configuring the installation for infrastructure mode, where the printer was recognized but still would not print once the cable was removed.

I have taken the printer's MAC address and added it as a trusted endpoint in both my router's configuration table and in my firewall (Norton Internet Security). However, that has also not helped.

Some advice I have read is making sure QoS is disabled on the router and also making sure that the SSID and pass key for the printer match that of the router. It should be easy to make these changes to the printer, but I cannot access the embedded web server in this printer to make these changes. Also, one source said to make sure the printer is on the sam... Read more

I have a strange and unfortunate problem. I have a Netgear JWNR router located in my living room. The wifi there works well on my laptop, but as soon as I move over to the bedroom (not far away) I lose the signal and can't connect to the internet. The strange thing is that all other laptops or phones I've tried this with can easily connect to the wifi in there, it's just a problem with my computer. I have windows 10, but have tried it with another laptop running windows 10 and there was no problem.
This is really frustrating since my desk is in the bedroom and I need to have the internet there to study.

I have tried everything I could think of and nothing works, I would really appreciate some help!

I'm having some issues with connecting to my laptop using other devices over WiFi since moving to Virgin Media. I'm trying to connect to various services on my laptop using my Palm Pre phone (I've also tried using an iPod Touch).

I'm trying to run apps such as VLC Remote, Web UI, and a WiFi Media Sync App. None will establish a connection to the laptop. In the case of uTorrent WebUI for example, I have the address which allows access. In my laptop browser, entering this comes up with the username and password window, as expected. However, doing so on my phone results in an "Unable to make connection," error.

I've tried disabling Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials as well as Spybot S&D. I've tried opening the ports in the router (D-Link DIR-615), and verifying the port remains open, even after re-activating the aforementioned programs. Whatever I do, I just can't get the phone to connect as I want.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I could go about sorting this out?

Hi there,

My neighbour has a problem which I've tried to help with, but have to say am stumped....

He is running a cable modem into a wireless router (Belkin), but since changing ink cartridges on the printer (maybe a coincidence) has lost his internet connection.

The PC (desktop running Xp) connects to the network, but there is no internet connection. I've been there with my laptop and all is well.

It also seems that every time you try to do something with network connections etc, the PC freezes the window/app and you have to reboot/log off and on.

I've never seen this before, but am thiniking pehaps the network card is done for.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

A:Unable to connect to Net via WiFi

Can't think of any reason changing the ink cartridges should effect the internet connection.

If I understand the problem:

Cable Modem --------> Belkin Router ---------> Desktop
No internet connection for the desktop.

Are you sure the Desktop is connecting to the Belkin? Can he access the Belkin's user interface from the desktop? If he can acccess the Belkin, then the card and cable is probably OK.

Did he try connecting directly to the cable modem to see if that works?

If you connected wireless, try connecting your laptop by the same ethernet cable to see if that works?

Could you supply the followong information for the desktop?

Taken from a JohnWill post.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Please post a  MiniToolBox log, so we can see the specs of your computer. Also this seems like a network issue, and a MOD may want to move it to the appropriate category.

I am having trouble connecting to any websites through wifi. I have connected to the wifi and used CMD to ping google.com and i get no errors but when i open my browser and try it it says "? Make sure the web address Google is correct ? look for the page with your search engine ? Refresh the page in a few minutes. " all of which i have done i then proceeded to click the Fix connection problems button and i get an alert saying nothing could be found. How do i fix it?

A:Unable to connect through wifi

Which web browser are you using? If you are using internet explorer, do a reset by going to tools, internet options, advanced, reset, ok, then start browser again. Make sure there are no proxies set that would interfere.

Also check any security software or antivirus, they can cause this problem many times.

I am unable to connect to wifi with this laptop. The other laptop and 2 iphones  and a tablet will connect to the wifi. It is with AT&T. I know it must have something to do with a setting, but do not have a clue to what. I have tried all I know, but that is very limited. Any suggestions will be helpful!

I am using a Nokia Siemens router. Using two laptops one with Vista and another with XP-SP3. My laptop is Acer and my wifes is HCL. And now the issue is that after i set the Security for network with WPA-PSK. My wifes laptop detects and tries to Connect with the network but finally it fails. I tried some possible steps and it didnt work. My Vista Laptop works fine after i delete the old access point.

Can Someone help me to fix this ?

A:Unable to connect thru wifi

She's using the same Network SSID and WPA-PSK security and algorithms and shared key?

The router is set to allow ALL MAC access (not block by MAC)?

The router is set for multiple access (usually a 50 address range)?

The wireless network mode is set compliant with her mode (G, B)?

I'm just rambling off everything I can think of.

Ok so I am working at a friend's house and I have run into a debacle. He needs his wireless adapter to be in a new room with better reception for the house. There are two Wall ports let's say port A and port B. He used to be in port A but wants to move to Port B. When hard connected to either port the internet works fine as well as generates the same IP, DNS, and gateway settings. When I connect Wireless however only port A connects to the internet. Port B will not connect to the internet even though the IP, DNS, and gateway are still the same when I check the wireless ipconfig. Any ideas. I have tried renewing, refreshing, flushing dns cache, making sure his ipv4 is automatic.

A:Wifi unable to connect to DNS

Are these ports connected to a router - whats the make and model of the router
Does if have two fixed IP address OR perhaps the DNS is set to 2 only

can we see an ipconfig /all please
ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the infomation above those entries
