I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there, My Yoga went to repair because one of the hinges was loose. When it came back it was formated (no idea why). Well, I confirgured a new account but the fingerprint isn't working. Says windows hello isn't available for this machine.Seems to be a driver problem, since everything is enabled on gpedit.msc. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks in advance.

I have a Thinkpad X1 Yoga (3rd Gen). The fingerprint sensor is not working and I don't have the option to sign in with my fingerprint. I bought the laptop around a year ago and the fingerprint sensor worked fine for the first few months, but stopped working recently.  Here are the symptoms:When setting up sign-in options, there is no fingerpring option in Windows HelloIn the device manager, there is no entry for "biometric sensor" or anything similarIn the bios, when I selected "reset fingerprint data", I get the response "no fingerprint reader is attached"I have tried a full re-install of Windows 10 and it did not change anything. Is anyone else having similar issues? Is this something I can fix through software or would I have to send it in for servicing? Thank!

You're not alone, and unfortunately it's been identified as a hardware issue. The BIOS message that you got is actually being used as a confirmation that the problem is hardware, not software. See this thread.

Ever since I updated to Windows 10 1809, my fingerprint reader has not been consistently working on the lock screen. Sometimes it would turn on and scan, while other times it wouldn't work at all. I checked device manager and saw the attached screenshot. After fumbling around with some drivers, now it won't work at all. The BIOS says there is no fingerprint reader attached. This makes me think it it a hardware issue. I may try a fresh install of Windows before I contact support. Any other suggestions?

Based on response from Lenovo employee Someotherguy in below post.  If you cant see it in BIOS then its a hardware problem.  Sorry.

My fingerprint login stopped working about 2 weeks before the pin number login stopped working.  Now I can only log on with password.  I read to uninstall the fingerprint driver, but then couldn't find it under programs.  So then I tried to reconfigure fingerprint, it seemed to go through the process and accept it.  Then it asked to set up a pin number. When I tried to do that, it required my password to verify. Then nothing happens.  I did this several times, even restarting, but nothing works.

Hello Lenovo team, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 370 (20JH0023US) less than a year old, since we set it up out of the box, we have been unable to get the fingerprint reader to function. In Device Manager, it shows the device cannot start (Code 10). We have uninstalled, reinstalled with the latest drivers, performed a BIOS update. When we try to clear the Fingerprint data in the BIOS, it sits as "Resetting Fingerprint Data" and gets no further. We have also replaced the Fingerprint reader itself (under warranty) on the keyboard bezel and it is still not working. Can anyone assist in helping us get this working? Is it possible it's a bad factory image of Windows and maybe we should do a reset? Thanks in advance!

Additionally, when I look at the driver for the scanner it says "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. Recently bought a brand new Yoga 920. Fingerprint scanner worked perfectly for about a week, then suddenly stopped working. I googled some solutions and have found that if I restart the computer or uninstall/re-install the fingerprint scanner device in Device Manager then it will temporarily work again, but usually only for the next sign-in attempt. Very annoying - are there any more permanent solutions?

Two weeks ago I bought a Yoga 720 and it has worked fine (including the fingerprint scanner). Three days ago it just stopped working. Now the Windows Hello says that my device doesn't support that feature. In the device manager it indicates that the Windows can't load the driver (Code 31?). I have been trying to reload the drivers for the fingerprint scanner from Lenovo without success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. Last month, my yoga 920 glass vibes got broken (doesn't start), so I had it fixed at a repair center (still under warranty). They said that they changed the motherboard of my laptop. After the repair, the fingerprint option to open my laptop is missing. I read some related problems and solutions such as updating the system and drivers, but it still doesn't work. And under the sign-in options, it says that "Windows Hello is preventing some options from being shown." How to fix this problem? Thanks

Hi!I use a Lenovo Yoga 720 15-inch which supports Windows Hello.  In the beginning of January the fingerprint reader stopped working for some reason. Device manager showed Driver error, which after a few log ins changed to Error 45. Then, in Device Manager, the biometric scanner fell of the visible and hidden devices lists altoghether. Since I was doing a heavy amount of work on a tight schedule I decided not to deal with such a incovninience back then. Today, I did a complete PC reinstall due to some performance issues after the April update. Unfortunately, that didn't fix the problem with the fingerprint reader, as Windows Hello still shows up as unavailable. The Biometric category in Device manager is nowhere to be found. My PC is up-to-date both in terms of Windows updates and Lenovo Driver updates. The device is still in warranty. Current Os & Build: Windows 10 Home, ver. 1803, build 17134.112 Local Lenovo Support didn't do much work, unfortunately. Also, I wasn't able to find an appropriate solution in other threads. Could anyone help me out with this issue? All ideas and advice are welcome. Thanks!

A:Yoga 720 - Fingerprint scanner & Windows Hello not working (showing up)

I don't have a 720, so I don't know if biometrics is a setting in the BIOS or not. First thing to do is update all the drivers and the BIOS using Lenovo Vantage. Once you're sure all that's up to date, then boot into the BIOS and look for a biometrics setting.

If it's not there, then you might want to open up the computer and reseat the ribbon cable that connects the sensor to the motherboard. If it's still under warranty, let Lenovo do it. Since there's no biometrics device listed in Windows, windows isn't seeing it for some reason.

Hi,As the title says. When I try to change the screen brightness there tends to be a lag of ~ 1 minute and then it changes very slowly in short intervals, not smoothly as it used to.This is a somewhat new problem. Secondly the fingerprint sensor stops working after a while. It will work again after manual deactivation and reactivation or reboot but this is extremely annoying. Lenovo Vantage tells me my drivers are up to date and there are no pending system updates.

A:X1 Yoga fingerprint reader (Synaptics WBDI) stopped working after repair / motherboard replacement

Okey!  Few rounds around the Internet got me absolutely nowhere. Lenovo said that it was a known problem and the only way to fix it is to do a factory reset.... BULLS** is my response to that. Anything software related can be fixed without nuking your system. So i refused to give up and with a bit of trial and error i found a way. You have to tie your Microsoft account to a pin AGAIN! Even if you already had one. I guess the account is tied to your hardware somehow. Here are simple steps to fix it:  1. Make shure to Activate and Resett fingerprint reader in the BIOS Reboot and enter the BIOS (f1 during boot) Go to Security > fingerprint Make sure Predesktop Authentication is [Enabled]And to to "Reset Fingerprint Data" and press [Enter] to reset Save and exit   2. Make shure drivers are up to date and working Run Lenovo Vantage (windows store) to make sure your running the latest drivers for everything including the fingerprint reader. You can also download the drivers directly form Lenovos product support page, but Vantage actually works (so Kudos to Lenovo for that one). After that check you device manager if the driver is running currently. Like this: (Start menu > type "device manager")Like this... Something is weird with the fingerprint sensor. When it works, it works instantly and recognizes my fingerprint right away, no matter which part of the finger I use. The problem is that it's *constantly* forgetting my finger. It'll work fine, then I'll close my laptop and come back in a little bit and it doesn't work at all...fails three times and have to use my PIN. Once that happens it doesn't work again, at all, until I re-enroll my fingerprint at which time it works perfectly again for some time. I end up having to re-enroll once or twice a day. Lenovo Vantage pulled in a new version of the driver package today but it didn't help...the issue just happened again. Anyone know what the cause might be?

Hello, I am using a P40 Yoga with Windows 10 (64-Bit). I have installed the Synaptics Fingerprint Driver 4.5.519.0 and it worked well untill the 1803 release of Windows 10. However, since the Update to 1809 it is only possible to register one finger. If I try to register a second one I receive the error message, that the reader is not able to recognize the finger.  The interesting fact is: this does not depend on the finger I am using. If I delete the registered fingers (even in the BIOS) and start the process again, I use the finger which was not recognized in the previous step, and it works. The second finger fails again. And: I am also using an external keyboard (Lenovo USB Prferred Pro) and here I can register all fingers I want. Any idea what is going on? Michael

Hey guys,  Coming to you because I'm a little lost here! My in-law recently bought a 13" Yoga 720, which is a cracking little beast, less one nut we've been unable to crack so far: we cannot setup the fingerprint ID to work with his index. Whenever we do, we get an error message saying it's already attributed to another ID. The problem is, I have no idea which one.  There is only one user setup on the PC, and I've succesfully removed all fingerprints associated to it, but still got the above-mentioned error message. I also tried dis-associating the device from his windows live account, but this didn't solve my problem. I went into the BIOS, but found to functionality pertaining to stored fingerprint IDs.  He told me he setup the PC a first time (and used his index to log-in), but for some reason had to fully restore it to factory settings, and since then he hasn't been able to associate his index with his new ID. I'm therefore pretty sure the problem is linked to this first setup, but have no idea how to solve it.  Any help is welcome! Thanks

Got my Yoga 460 a week or two ago, and the fingerprint reader has been hit and miss a lot when trying to log in: whereas my office door scans me in without issue (or second attempt at worst).  So today, as I swiped I noticed the bump in the bar just above the reader light had seemed to move across a bit. I scraped it to the right, thinking it was just some protective wrapping to do with shipping; now of course the fingerprint reader doesn't work at all. I can get the light to go on, bit it never acknowledges any finger swipe. I'm guessing that must have been some capacitive sensor film ?  And if so, why was there a bump, like a fold/wrinkle ?Disappointed.

Hey guys. I've owned a 920 from a couple of months now. The figerprint sensor is the only bummer for me. From time to time, it gets deactived, so I can no longer log in with it. When I go to the device manager, an error 43 is shown saying that Windows stopped the device because it reported problems. To get it working again, it's as easy as disabling it, and then enabling it again, I even made a bat file for that, but it's really annoying because it can happen from several times daily, to one time every couple of days. I have the latest drivers installed. Anyone else experiencing something like that? Regards!

Yoga 720-13IKB (Type 80X6) has been running perfectly for most of the last year.  However, a recent Windows update (I think) has caused the fingerprint scanner to not work.  I get the message "This device cannot start (Code 10)" against the Synaptics WBDI driver in Device Manager. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driverupdating the driver using "search automatically..."updating the driver by downloading the driver from the Lenovo siteI currently have driver 5.5.2603.1050 dated 1/12/2017 installed.  Windows reports that there is no better driver available for this. There are situations where the fingerprint scanner will work initially when I delete and reinstall it, so I know this is not a hardware issue.  However, the error comes back after I put the laptop to sleep. I've seen other postings that relate to the fingerprint scanner not working after a Windows update, but not one for the Yoga 720. Is there a real solution to this problem?

Last Friday something went wrong with my login.  Suddenly I could no longer login to my Yoga 920 with either my fingerprint, nor my PIN, nor my password.  I have no clue what caused that.  Never had such a thing happen before.  But I knew a quick fix...  I was able to login as Administrator, so I wasn't quite dead in the water... I had a recent Acronis True Image backup of my drive C: (1 day old) so I used an ATI recovery memory stick and restored that image to drive C:.  All went well and after reboot I was able to login using my correct user name and password.  It had dropped the PIN and fingerprint login options though, as if they'd never been setup.  Curious but not problematic - or so I thought. So I setup the PIN (using the same digits) and tried to setup my fingerprints again.  When I tried my index finger, it refused, saying: "That fingerprint has already been set up on another account.  Try a different finger." Well I tried all the fingers that were previously setup and ALL got the same failed response.  So tried my ring finger (which had not been previously used) and it worked!  Hmmm Thus I began a search for a way to clear ALL fingerprint data from any and all accounts.  NOTE that I used the exact same account (John) and the password associated with John still worked.  Only the fingerprint data is somehow associated with a phantom "John" account that I cannot re-crea... So, I've gone through this cycle several (too many) times over the month of owning this laptop. I'll save several fingerprint profiles (the first 2 fingers on each hand). But whenever I try to log in and happen to "misfire" with my finger and get the alternative login prompt, I find that I can no longer use that particular finger any longer in futire attempts, as if it's chosen to "forget" that profile. But I can use any of the other fingers I've saved just fine. Problem only seems to be corrected by resaving the "forgotten" finger as a new profile again. I honestly may be assuming incorrectly that this is initiated by a "misfire" (and by that I mean not landing my finger precisely on the sensor, picking up too fast, whatever). It might be that the attempt didn't cause the profile to be lost, but that it was lost for some other reason and the attempt was just the first failed attempt. All I know is that it happens.

I have two week old X1 Yoga (20FQ) and the fingerprint sensor seems to work very unstable. It worked fine for a while and and suddenly in Windows 10 login it didn't work at all. And now again I cannot login using fingerprint sensor. As the issue was resolved for couple of days with reinstalling the device, it might not be a HW-issue.
