Hard disk Crc-errors +programs that stop working and games that can't be installed

Q: Hard disk Crc-errors +programs that stop working and games that can't be installed

I have lots of problems with my hard disks. CHKDSK finds errors in the values every the time in my 2 hard disks even after running a CHKDSK/f!!

Also I can't install games from CD/DVD's because there comes always "read error in file x" or "unpack error in file x" or a "CRC-error occured...".

Also corrupt program files: almost any program might stop working, this happens every day. It can be Skype, WMP, RealPlayer, Itunes, Mozilla Firefox.. You name it. Even WIN XP self complains about many problems (at least once a week).
I have SP2+latest updates, use a Antivirus+firewall and Ad-Aware +some other similar programs can't find any problems.

I had a Samsung harddisk P120 (250GB) which had these problems, then a bought another one (because I thought it was broken), a WDC hard disk and installed Win XP to that instead but the problems still occured like before.

What should I do, are there any good diagnostic programs?

Please help me, I can't stand the situation anymore!

With regards, a novice!

My system is:
Intel C2D E6400, Corsair PC5300 DDR2 2048 MB, Samsung Spinpoint P120 250 GB, WDC 250 GB, Nec DVD-burner AD 7173, NorthQ 4775-500Bulk(500W), Gigabyte DS-3, Powercolor Radeon x1950Pro EE 256 MB, Win Xp Home, Cooler Master Mystique 631 Viewsonic VA912, MS Wireless Laser desktop 6000.

Preferred Solution: Hard disk Crc-errors +programs that stop working and games that can't be installed

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds like a bad connection.

From these three factors, my first suspicion is that you have I/O issues. Your drives are probably fine.

If the HD and the CD are on the same IDE cable (assuming these are IDE, you didn't say), I'd check the cable for breaks/burns or just for a bad connection (cable detaching from connector, or not plugged in tightly to the MoBo).

Check your connections... ESPECIALLY to the CD. Any software that was installed from that drive might not have installed properly, and half of your trouble may just be your hard drives reading badly written data.

Note: I actually "fixed" this problem with a system restore, but seeing as how it keeps recurring every few months I'd like to find out what the root problem is.

So, the programs my laptop had installed with Windows 7 stop working around 1 - 2 minutes after I start up windows. I can still use Firefox, Google Chrome, Skype etc. but any windows-related programs such as Task manager or cmd.exe stop responding. If I use ctrl+alt+del to get to the menu and then return to windows, the whole screen turns black. If I open Skype or other programs like that, they show up on the black and a snapshot of the window stays if I move the window around.
Also I can't stop the programs, they just get stuck.
Shutting down the computer shows that all the stuck programs suddenly start working for those few seconds between windows stopping all processes and shutting down the computer.
I figured it could've been Explorer.exe messing up, but I tried killing that process in the 2 minute window and the system still got stuck. Tried googling for the problem, but didn't seem like anyone else had anything like this.

New to the Tech forum boards but I am having a problem with my HP Pavillion dv6t. The hard drive went bad so I installed a new Seagate 1TB internal hard drive in the notebook. Starts up fine and then it says that "No bootable device found"---insert disk press any key. The disc is in the cd rom, I went into the BIOS enabled the CD/ROM boot option. I also went into the Boot option menu and tried selecting the internal cd/dvd rom drive option and I went into the actual boot order screen and adjusted the boot order so it read the cd-rom drive first then the hard drive. I also am using the HP Application and Driver recovery DVD. I am not sure if the disc is bad or cd drive is bad. The other thought is that because it is a brand new hard drive there is no information on it for the drivers so maybe the computer is not processing the information. If anyone has knowledge of this issue or any ideas that can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank You

My friend is at a loss. He has been trying to help me with this problem. Any game that uses graphics, besides certain small programs. Recently for example, I played Bejeweled Twist, a small PopCap game and it just BSoD's. Well, XP style but I hope you get the idea. What makes things worse is that it keeps BSoD'ing unless I manually turn off the tower for a while, then turn it back on.

This is all I have. I also have a minidump file that has this error.

STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x01BA6CC0,0x00000002,0x00000000,0xF9B2F8E6)
ALCXWDM.SYS - Address F9B2F8E6 base at F9AB5000, DateStamp 48d9a891

I have used HP's website to update my sound and video drives, but that didn't even help.

If it's not too bad for me to show my personality, I will royally crown anyone who could help me.

I'm running Vista Home Premium SP2. My computer is a Gateway GM5410E, Intel Core2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86 ghz, 2 gb RAM - 32 bit
For as long as I can remember this computer will be working fine and then I will hear the hard drive start making a lot of noise (maybe its not the hard drive) once this noise starts everything slows down to almost a complete stop. It usually lasts 3-5 minutes then goes away. I have not found any way to make it start or stop and it seems to happen randomly. I've run scans with MSE and malwarebytes and AVG but have never found any problems. What can I do?

Hello SevenForums. I've come here like many I'm sure after not being able to fix or figure out my own problems and seeing the knowledgeable user base here as I've explored for solutions. I'll get to my issue, but first I'll provide some context...

Some months ago now the computer I'm currently on, a Dell Studio XPS 1647, had a hard drive failure. I don't know what brought it on, but fortunately with some help from friends I was able to recognize the failure early on. I shut down my computer and didn't touch it until I could acquire a new backup external HD. Once I did, I backed up all I could from my laptop's dying hard drive. Most of the files came across alright but I had to use a recovery program to retrieve some off of some bad sectors. Once most everything that was important to me minus some things I knew I could get again was backed up, I ran a chkdsk and during that long process the HD died entirely as all the sectors went sour evidently and the chkdsk stopped. Windows could not be booted from the HD any longer.

Time went by as I shopped for a replacement for my failed internal HD. I finally stumbled upon a sale for the Seagate 1TB Hybrid. I couldn't say no after reading good reviews and researching hybrids. I wasn't entirely certain it would be compatible but was told that most all computers with SATA connections would accept it, so I ordered the thing. I grabbed a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium as that's what I'd run previously and used a progra... Read more

Hi there,

There aren't any .dmp file in your attachment. These are required to analyse the BSOD.

Follow these steps:
Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

Then, when the system next BSOD's, follow this:

1. Download this .BAT file to your desktop

2. Right-click the .BAT file and 'Run as Administrator'
3. Locate the .ZIP file created on your desktop, and upload it here in your next reply.

I've been having problems with games crashing with c0000005 as soon as I run them. This isn't happening with games I've had installed for a while, it has only started when i've tried to install new games in the last month or so. I've attached my files from the SF tool. I was wondering if anyone had any pointers?

Thanks in advance.

A:c0000005 errors when running newly installed games

Hi, Welcome to Seven forums.

A C0000005 Error is a Windows System error, not a VFP Error. It is an Exception Error that occurs when a process (application, driver, etc.) tries to execute a processor command that references memory outside the space allocated to that process by the Operating System.

There are many possible causes ranging from corrupt data tables, to a bad network connection, ActiveX controls, or Printer or Video driver errors.

And from the attached files, I will suggest you to install/update DirectX. Please update your system specs. Update the drivers for graphic card and sound.

Keep us posted.

Welcome to SF gamerak228 .
The biggest offender appears to be as you said World of Warcraft.
Did the game receive any updates recently?

Does the BSOD's happen with other games / other circumstances, if so what are they?
Just for trouble shooting purposes go ahead and physically remove the GPU from the system
and use the PC as you normally would using the integrated graphics.

The past three days, it's happened about twice a day to me. Just at seemingly random times, my currently running programs stop working and attempting to open new programs just results in the program's icon being momentarily highlighted in the taskbar, and then it disappears, as if the program automatically closed itself. This even works for simple programs like Notepad or Paint. Any currently running programs usually crash or stop working. All of my tabs in Chrome will have the pages using Shockwave crash, and attempting to open any new tabs or navigate to new pages will just result in a white screen. The computer is fast and responsive on the desktop (ie, I can open and close the start menu and highlight programs on my desktop with a mouse rollover), and nothing on my computer is frozen, just not working.
This all happens just at one single moment when everything stops working right, and I have to manually shut down the computer, because going through Windows to shut down or log off does not result in anything. Upon startup, everything is back to normal. CTRL+ALT+DEL command results in a black screen with the cursor visible, but nothing happens.
I was recently infected with quite a bit of malware, but as far as I know, I got it all off. I don't know if this is was "malware" or just my computer being a bleep. What do you guys think?

A:Currently running programs stop working, and new programs won't start.

So I recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium on an Acer Aspire 5349. I've been having a bunch of issues with it since the install.

Firstly, When I boot, it takes me to the "Disk Check" screen and tells me that one of my disks needs to be checked for consistency. However, the disk in question isn't something like "C:" or "D:" it's "\\?\volume{c4afec15-cb60-11e4-9583-806e6f6e6963}". The disk check also automatically cancels. It doesn't prompt me with the usual " Press any button to stop the disk check" option, just straight to " Disk check has been cancelled"

When I eventually get to the desktop, I get the screen " Windows detected a hard disk problem ". I look at the details and I'm told that my C:\ drive has been reporting failures. When I check the status of the disk via the Disk Management tool I'm told that all my partitions are healthy.

When I actually use the laptop, it's very slow and frequently freezes. It takes a while to catch back up and sometimes these freezes lead to a BSOD. The BSOD message was KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. I checked the event viewer and it also seemed that before certain crashes I would have driver controller error on an IDE Port. I've attached a picture of the disk check screen, event viewer, and memory dump. I apologize about the quality of the pictures, I couldn't screenshot the images on the actual laptop as it was freezing and crashing too often.

The keyboards lights started flashing and the mouse just stopped responding (even though the mouse light was still on). I thought this was temporary so i shut down my computer and turned it on again. The first 30 mins or so were fine but then the same thing happened. So i disconnected their usb ports and connected them again...it didn't work. So the only solution seems to be is reseting the PC. And thats only temporary. I need an urgent solution please. Also this doesn't happen on boot, it only happens when i'm playing a game or have several programs open or drawing something on paint.

What could have caused these games from quit working? Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi. I've been looking around the internet for a couple of weeks now but have not seen a solution for my issue.

My problems started after I decided to update the drivers for my graphics card (radeon 9600) and Catalyst software, as over time several processes began to crash meaning most functions stopped working. After installing the lastest driver versions, upon reboot, the computer was making a low bleep sound, unlike the usual higher picthed booting up sounds and the display to my plasma via the DVI port disappeared after the BIOS screen. I connected an old monitor via the VGA port and rebooted which worked, I had a display after the BIOS and Windows logo, but there where several svchost.exe error messages.

I attempted to roll back the drivers, which failed, so I tried to reinstall the latest drivers again. Once I rebooted, I had the same problem as before, a low bleep and no display after the BIOS and logo screen. I returned to the BIOS setup and altered one of the video output settings > from AGP to PCI and my display returned. However after the Windows XP logo screen, when the computer low bleeps and the svchost.exe messages pop up (before the desktop or anything else does), neither one of my keyboards or mice no longer respond. Here are a couple of the svcshot.exe errors that immediately pop up:

The keyboard and mouse are graphical devices, so it would appear that your mish-mash of installs has terminated their usefullness.

Since the 9600 is an AGP card, switch back to AGP in Bios.

Have you tried booting 'Enable VGA Mode'?

Do you have onboard graphics?

Im not totally sure if this is a virus or not but here is the problem. Between today and yesterday my computer has constantly saying random things has stopped working. Such as explorer or windows installer etc. I was reading around and saw a post on Hitman. So I tried to use it and just before installing the program stops working. And the weird thing is that it stops working the same exact spot. I currently dont have a Antivirus software downloaded and most other programs such as skype refuses to install. I even reformated my computer last night but the next morning the same problems occur. I am useing Windows 7 BTW.

A Few days ago I had that FBI virus. Took the machine into a tech lab to fix. They ran some kind of program that got rid of it. Since then I now have the issues of program that say they have stopped running. This happened with SAGE ACT, Outlook, MS word and other stranger tings keep happening. I was running Microsoft essentials, after getting rid the FBI things I am unable to load the program back in. Have close and got rid of all other Virus program, it still will not load so I am assuming what ever is preventing this from loading has some thing to do with the other programs not working.

I am running, Window 7, MS 2010. Look forward to your help. Gary

When I start up Windows 7, I keep getting reports that GfxUI and ControlDeck stopped working. A lot of other programs stop working too when I start them, such as Internet Explorer, iTunes, Adobe Reader and some video games. I tried reinstalling several of them, but that doesn't fix the problem or my computer simply can't install those programs again. Someone said I should reinstall the Nvidia drivers, but I keep getting errors when I try to do that.

Has anyone had similar programs, or know how I can fix them?

Edit: I ran several scanners, they came up with nothing and I haven't used any of those cleaner/... utilities (that I know of). Where can I find more info on those error messages/codes? And so far, no blue screens.

A:Programs stop working

Start by scanning for infections with more than one scanner. (Malwarebytes, Kaspersky Security Scan, Superantispyware, Dr. Web CureIt, etc.) Check to make sure yours isn't disabled.

After that, test memory and the hard drive. But start with a good malware scan.

I had the same problem since I installed latest windows update (Windows 7 Home Premium).Skype, Winamp, Windows Desktop gadget, AVG and Malwarebytes all crahed upon startup.
I uninstalled the last windows update after trying dozens of other options posted in forums - this solved all  my problems. The update that caused this was kb2670838
Not sure if this compromises security of my computer though, and how it will behave after installing next update.. any thoughts?

Hello Steve, and welcome to the Vista Forums!

I have just had a look at that log. Not good. Not good at all. This is not going to be easy.

(for any experts: parsed log uploaded below)

Right, let us see what we can do. First though, I need to ask you to confirm that you are running SP2, that you are running Vista Ultimate, and may I please ask approximately how old this computer is (number of years)

Right, now please follow these instructions. I know that you are not exactly asking about the BSoD, but it helps me to know. Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

Just to let you know, I think that this is a hardware fault with your hard disk. We will confirm this, but I think that it is going to come down to needing a new hard disk drive. Sorry

Right, now please follow these steps:

OTL - Download or alternative link here and here

Download OTL to your Desktop
Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:

Click the None button, followed by the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open one notepad window. OTL.Txt These are saved in the same location as OTL.Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents... Read more

You must do a repair install of XP before it'll boot into Windows. XP isn't able to deal with the change in hardware.

Can I make a recovery CD from another computer then put it in the computer with the new HD?  If so step by step instructions would be great!  Thanks!

A:New Hard Disk Installed

With the way the Recovery Manager is intended, the answer to your question is probably not.  The other HP would have to be the same or very similar model to have a chance of working.  Since you evidently do not have the Recovery disk set for that PC, you might be able to buy them for a small fee from Computer Surgeons:http://www.computersurgeons.com/Just put in the model number. If that is no good, there is the possibility of installing Windows 7 from a regular install disk of the exact same version that was installed before.  If you intend to go in that fashion, it becomes more difficult because you then need all of the drivers and the knowledge on how to activate.

A:Keyboard and mouse stop working when playing games

Install latest bios for the motherboard from Gigabyte.com.

Install latest EasyTune 6, which is from this year, for your board. (In Utility section of downloads.)

Install latest drivers for both mouse and keyboard from manufacturers' sites.

Your motherboard has both USB 1.1 and 2.0 ports. Use 2.0 only if possible and do not use any hubs, if possible.

Install this for the AMD chipset drivers and storage drivers. Both are at: AMD Chipset Drivers <<< (assuming you have 64 bit Windows)

I have Vista Home Premium, 64 bit. I also have a teenage daughter so we are always battling one intrusion or another. Recently we had a number of "Google Installer" errors and a number of other similar problems. We ran Malware Bytes and Super Search and Destroy and got over most of the problems. But since then we get repeated error messages for various system services, such as ".NET Runtime Optimization Service stopped working and was closed" or "Host Process for Windows Services stopped, etc." It usually cycles through a few of these. We Firefox to run fine, IE a little better and was using Quicken earlier, as well as Word and Excel. But Outlook won't run, it starts up and fails. Chrome wouldn't run and now we uninstalled and can't re-install. Same with Skype, they just all start off and then encounter and error and shutdown. I had done a System Restore during the earlier battle (this is all in the past couple of weeks) so I know I don't have anything from before when all this happened that I can restore to.

I think my path of least resistance at this point is just to reinstall Windows but am open to any ideas others may have so I can get back up and running normally.

A:Errors and Several Programs not working

I usually do a clean install myself if multiple programs are involved, as there may be some registry corruption. Since you have tried system restore maybe its time for a system recovery.

A:Hard Disk Errors.

Hi Perad!

If you want CheckDisk to attempt to repair and recover the errors first run cmd and type chkdsk /f instead of only chkdsk. It will inform you it can't (while running Windows) and ask you if you would like to shedule it at next restart - answer y for "yes" and press enter. Restart the PC and let CheckDisk do its thing. It can take a couple of minutes or a couple of hours so pick a time when you won't be using the PC (overnight).
