I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window."

Your post is not very clear, but the way I read it, it looks like you have cut your Outlook program on drive C & pasted it on drive D, is this correct?.
If this is the case can you try to reverse the procedure & put it back on drive C exactly where was before.. Moving a program from one drive to another can cause the system to lose its connection & cause problems.

We have all of our user's email set up to deliver to a personal folder that resides on a server with Windows 2003. We have a small number of people that get the error message below. They eventually get in, but either have to close outlook and reopen several times or they have to reboot their computer. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks!

Had this error on a user's pc. Researched it here on the forum.
Found another thread with someone suggesting to use the following command to get it going:
Start->run..then type the following -> "Outlook.exe /resetnavpane"

This worked! The other thread has since been closed, but I wanted to reply and say WHY my users outlook suddenly started throwing out this error, because no one on the other thread was able to.

Turns out that my user had "accidentally" dragged their personal folder (containing 1000's of emails) into the "outbox".
Since the "outbox" folder is one to be used while an email is in the sending phase, it basically just shut down and wouldn't open for anything.

Luckily the command was able to get Outlook open and I was able to investigate what the user did to cause it.

Hope this info can help someone else.

Dear AllI am getting the above error when I try to open Outlook 2007 on Windows XP. There is a quick fix to this which is to run 'outlook.exe /resetnavpane', which I find from a quick internet search. However, this is a one time fix, and I am having to do it every single time that I boot up. Is there a more permanent fix to this problem - hopefully the fact that the above fix works will identify the root of the problem. If anyone knows this and can help I would be very grateful. Thanks AdamEDIT: Moved to more appropriate forum

Does anyone have a fix for this issue?

A:Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window.

I had this problem on a customers laptop with Vista Home Premium and Microsoft office 2007 Enterprise.

I've often seen similar errors with Office including things going wrong with Word, Excel, basically any Microsoft Office application.
Nearly all of these errors can be solved by allowing Office to re-create it's profile folders. I fixed the same problem you are having with this procedure...

1. Close all office applications
2. Browse to and RENAME the following folders (do not delete them if you wish to avoid losing any emails and address books). I normally stick an _ on the end to make it "foldername_"

For Microsoft Outlook...
C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

For other Microsoft Office Programs...
C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office
C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office

3. Open problematic application (Outlook in this case)

The next problem you will have with OUTLOOK is your Personal Folders file will be new and therfore empty (none of your old emails, calendar or contacts in there!).
Don't panic though, all you need to do is the following...

1. Open Outlook
2. Go to File>Import and Export...
3. Choose "Import from another program of file" and click next
4. Choose "Personal Folder File (.pst)" and click next
5. Click the browse button and locate the folder that you previously renamed

In Outlook 2007, when I right click on an item in the navigation pane, such as a folder, or "Contacts" and select "Open in New Window" the new window size is too small and I have to resize it every time.

I've searched the posts here, found some similar issues posted, but none with a solution that I can make work for this issue.

I've tried:
- resizing the window and clicking on the top right "x" to close it.
- resizing the window, moving back to the first window, closing the first window, then clicking on the top right "x" to close the resized window.
- resizing the window, holding "Ctrl" key and clicking on the top right "x" to close it.
- resizing the window, holding "Shift" key and clicking on the top right "x" to close it.
- resizing the window, holding "Alt" key and clicking on the top right "x" to close it.
- Other variations of the above.

There is something that has changed the window size setting, because it has changed twice in the last few months, but I cannot figure out what it is.

My OS is Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit running on an HP Pavilion laptop.

I have Outlook 2010 and Windows 8.1.  When attempting to open e-mail in Outlook 2010 or documents in Word I get the following error:
"Outlook could not create the work file.  Check the temp environment variable."
I've read several Microsoft KB articles and several forums on this issue.  According to these articles, This problem occurs when the Cache string value in the registry doesn't point to a valid directory.  The solution provided is to:
Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
Right-click the Cache key, and then click Modify.  Then modify the sting value to:  %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache
When performing this step, the cache value was already set to the value above.  I attempted to overwrite by typing the same value for the string, but that did not solve the problem.  I attempted to change it to a different value, save it, and then
modify it to the correct value and save it, but that did not solve the problem.  I also attempted to go in to the INetCache folder under Users\"user"l\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache, rename it, recreate a new folder and copy all subfolders
into it, and that did not solve the problem.
I am out of things to try from the user forums I have researched.  Appreciate any insight anyone might have on how I can solve this problem.

Hello, got a bit of an odd problem, not sure if it's an outlook or a server issue but I'm suspecting outlook.
We're running terminal services with windows server 2008 and for the most part it's grand, but there's one user that has a bit of a problem.
When they send mail the mail gets sent no problem but about a quarter of the time the frame of the message remains. The border is there but the main text field is transparent. It'll stay there until it's closed.

It's not exactly mission critical but it's rather odd and I haven't been able to do anything about it so far

any ideas?

Problem: Outlook starts normally with a POP3 account in a POP3 Outlook profile. However, I have a work Exchange account which I configured using instructions yesterday. Worked fine. Yet today, Outlook crashes - fails on opening Microsoft Exchange Account. Hangs and then forced exit produces Microsoft error report. On restarting, Outlook says that "outlookaddin.dll" caused a serious error and has been disabled. Disabling it means that Outlook no longer pulls down emails from Exchange. Re-enabling it causes the crash again, Catch-22.

Versions:
Dell XPS M1210 - brand new.
Microsoft XP Professional SP2 (fully patched)
Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 SP2 (fully patched)
McAfee SecurityCenter pre-loaded by Dell.

I configured the Exchange profile yesterday and it worked fine. Changes -- possible cuplrits? -- in the meantime:

1. A large McAfee patch was installed semi-automatically.
2. Attempted to install Treo 650 Palm Hotsync. This did not complete successfully. Hung while hotsyncing to Outlook. Then uninstalled successfully.

What I've tried, but which does not fix the problem:

a. Detect and Repair run within Outlook completes successfully.
b. Disabled and uninstalled McAfee Spamkiller.
c. Remove the Exchange profile through Control Panel > Mail, and create a new one with a different name.

Suggestions very gratefully received!

add this to the end without the quotes and a space between exe and the slash "/safe"

You have to keep the key down until Outlook starts and it will tell you it is

Thanks SteveT.

A:Can't open jpg or wmv in microsoft outlook

Do you see a button with a paperclip on it (usually in the upper right of the message pane)? When I used it for newsgroups, that's how attachments showed up (at least in newer versions of Outlook Express; in older versions, the pic would just appear in place).
Also, if you go to tools, options, advanced, security, "do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially contain a virus". I noticed that if that box was checked, I couldn't even download attached pictures!!! (dumb Microsoft!) I don't know if in later updates they fixed that.

Not sure if those 2 anecdotes will help, but just thought I'd toss them out.

I've been using Outlook 2003 on Windows Vista (SP1) for a couple of years now, but it has recently developed a problem; I use rules for sorting emails, but now I can't open the Rules and Alerts window. I can still set up rules by right-clicking an email and going through the rules wizard, but am unable to open the window that allows me to organise/delete them (ie through the tool bar at the top, Tools -> Rules and Alerts...).
When I click on this, a window pops up for about half a second (too fast to read what it says) but then disappears. No error message; I think the window is meant to be the Rules and Alerts window (can't be sure) but who knows...
I've tried repairing Outlook through the help menu, and tried repairing Office as a whole through Programs and Features in the control panel. I've also tried deleting outcmd.dat and extend.dat (for kicks) but that didn't fix it.

Any advice would be much appreciated - I really need to sort out some rules that aren't working, but can only add rules like this, not fix existing ones!
Many thanks,
Padraig

It was suggested to me recently the cause may have been due to me having Microsoft Service Pack 1 at the time. I had not updated to Service Pak 2 (which I now believe has been updated to Service Pak 3). Has anyone had experience with this and, if so, do you think there's a chance that if I update my Service Pak that I might still have a chance of recovering the data I had in my original Outlook file?

A:Still unable to open Microsoft Outlook

I dont think just upgrading to service pack 3 would do any good.

May be you need some more luck there.

Hope you get the help you need

Regards

Hi,
MS Outlook 2000 will not open and shows the following error: "Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Was able to make it work at times by using system restore to an earlier time but eventually it would fail again and I ran out of system restore points.
What do I do now?
Thanks

A:Microsoft Outlook 2000 will not open

hmm.. if i remember correctly you can go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and select to remove Outlook or maybe Office 2000 and a box will pop up with the option to repair the installation. click repair. if i am wrong about the repair option you can just cancel the removal.

I am running Vista home premium. My MS outlook 2007 was working just fine two days ago and now it won't open at all, when i came back to my computer to check email i got the following message:

"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors have been detected in the file C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Micorsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst. Quit Outlook and all mail enabled applications, and then use the inbox repair too (Scanst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in the file. For more information aouth the inbox repair tool, see Help".

I searched for that link and I couldn't find it anywhere in my computer, I also did a search for Scanst.exe file and nothing came up.
I am not a computer expert so any help will be very much appreciated.
Thanks

A:Microsoft Outlook 2007 does not open

Weird, I did a search for it and it wasn't there, too. So, I spend some time looking around, and was able to find the tool on my own.

Try going to C:\Prgram Files\Microsoft Office\Office12

It should be in there right under SCANOST. It's in all caps. Make sure you get the right one.

Best of luck.

My friend is having a strange problem with their computer. They are using Windows XP Home Edition. After composing a new email in Outlook Express, and hitting the send button. The Install wizard pops up as if something is being installed on the computer, and then a second window pops up with a message (sorry I don't have the exact wording) relating to Microsoft Picture It! Stating that the file is located on a disc or other removable media. It's as if Microsoft Picture It! is attempting to install. All of these windows can be canceled and closed. The email will be sent as usual.

They are using Norton anti-virus software, which is up do date. We also ran Avast virus cleaner. The computer appears to be free of viruses. We tried reinstalling IE and OE, but it didn't help. I was thinking about unistalling both IE and OE, and then reinstalling to see if that would correct the problem.

What would cause something this weird? I have never run across anything like this before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Elizbeth
