Preferred Solution: Windows Vista issue.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I thought I put my PC to sleep and all of a sudden a blue screen popped up right after it was in sleep mode. I wasn't able to restart in safe mode.

Anyhow the following are the errors that are popping up..
I really don't have a clue. Help is greatly appreciated....

Any chance of any help please?

I have an issue were if you have Windows Vista on a pc, acting as a Server, or using Vista Business as a server, if you log into our program on that server, it doesnt allow ANY workstations to log in - says the network path is unavailable.

However

If you log the workstation in first, then log the server onto the program, it works fine.

This though, causes another problem.

You can only log 1 or 2 computers into our software with Vista acting as a server.

This also seems to affect Microsoft Access databases.

Anyone ever come across this or know what may be the cause?

Thanks

Hey guys,

I recently reinstalled Windows Vista 32bit onto my pc and have an old Palm m505 which i connect to the computer via a USB docking station.
I have also recently switched from a 250gb IDE HD to a 300gb SATA drive.
Whilst everything else seems to be going smoothly i get this strange USB sound when i try to connect the Palm m505 dock to the computer.
Instead of the usual kind of DA-DUM noise when a device is connected, it makes this other sound consisting of 3 quick sounds like din din din, very quickly.
I have tried looking this up on the internet but have thus far been unable to find any info. Off the top of my head i would guess its some kind of power management issue, but this only occurs with the palm m505 dock and not with any other devices.
I have tried removing my USB mouse and keyboard and connecting the palm as the only usb device but the problem persists.
I have also tried this in all 6 USB slots ( 2 front and 4 back ) and get the same result every time.
Can anyone give any indication as to why this is happening now?
Perhaps i need to install SP1?
Thanks in advance,
D

A:Windows Vista 32 bit (w/o SP1) USB Issue

Sorry to bother everyone, solved the problem.
For anyone else having this issue, the palm can only be detected by windows when it is attempting a hotsync, at this time u can update the driver in device manager.
Direct the driver update to search c:\windows\system32 and it should find the relevant driver.
This will allow u to connect the palm correctly and complete a hotsync :)

A friend tried to install the Windows 7 64-bit upgrade on his Compaq. The computer read the CD and started the install, but as soon as it got to the Upgrade Installer itself it gave an error saying that it needed to have a CD driver to continue.
Apparently that's a problem that others have encountered but in a full day of searching forums and googling every possible wording, I haven't found a real answer as to how to fix the problem. It was an HP supplied upgrade disk.
The problem is further exacerbated by the fact that after he tried several times the computer will not boot into either Windows 7 or Vista.
The restore partition is still intact. Is there a way to change that partition to be the active partition and boot into it and initiate a restoration to Day 1 status?
I have tried a variety of things but nothing seems to get the upgrade installed.

Thanks for your time and help.

A:Upgrade Issue - Vista 64 to Windows 7 64

Have you or your friend tryed booting from the disk? The restore partition is accessed by hitting a certin button on start up, check the pc as its booting it should be f9 or something like that. Also get ahold of hp and let them know what is going on and see if they can send a replacement disk.

First things first let me say hello all, this is my first post on this site.

Now to business. I am having issues with boot-up on my partners Windows Vista Laptop. During boot it will imply there are issues with the Windows Boot files. Have attempted Startup Repair and a complete Restore (both failed to complete) and have also tried fixing with the original installation disk, which again failed

Can anybody suggest a fix, that will work

I am a computer lover and a self taught engineer, but this has me slightly stumped!

A huge thanks in advance to anybody who is willing to offer me any advice and potentially a fix for the issue.

Cheers

Welcome to TSF, are there any error messages or blue screens? Seeing how you attempted to restore the system, the hard drive maybe failing.

Go to the Hard Drive Mfg's website download, and burn to a CD the diagnostics software then boot from the CD. Also what are the Specs of the laptop.

I am running Vista 32 bit SP1 on a standalone laptop. I am getting a problem that is getting worse by the day re explorer and all related application functionality slowing down and not responding.

I have shut down all non essential applications, stopped search, firewall and other secuirty services and closed AV software. I then have 3% processor load, no network load, 70% RAM available and no disk activity. Despite this explorer continues to run slow and freeze nearly all the time (except for first few minutes after restart).

It is now having a couple of annoying knock on effects: Outlook hangs, task manager won't start, PDA sync gets errors "with desktop" as everything times out.

Has anybody been getting these problems? system is vitually inopperable and google searches and not providing solutions relating to my non-networked config

Hi

I also have 4 identical Freecom NAS boxes also attached on the network.

All 3 desktop machines can see the NAS boxes within the network and can map drives to them all apart from the Home Premium machine. It can see all 4 boxes, but can only map drives to 3 of them, giving the error message that the path is invalid on the 4th.....

I've been scratching my head for several days now but can't seem to get to the bottom of why that would be. It's not even getting to the username/password for the 4th NAS box.

Any ideas/suggestions greatly received - I'm sure it's something simple.......

Hi everyone,

I'm running Vista Home Premium (32-bit) which I've had for about a month and a half now, and the only major problem that's been plaguing me is one which I've found no documentation on so far, so it may be fairly unique.

Anyways, every time my monitor goes to stand-by or it is turned off, when I turn it back on, about 7 times out of 10 windows explorer becomes all screwed up and I have to end the process and then start it over again. As you might imagine, this is extremely cumbersome and I'd like to get it figured out. When I say win explorer craps out, I mean the task bar gets all misaligned, the start menu doesn't really work, and any explorer pages (Control Panel, My Documents, etc.) don't display any graphics at all.

I assume the way to fix this is going to be a Windows update, but I'm as up to date as can be as far as I know. Anyone know otherwise, or have any further ideas on how I can fix this issue?

What software package?
look in your error logs;
Start --> right click on computer, select manage
Click on event viewer
Look at errors and warning.
This will give you an idea what happened.
List your system specs.

With this info we will be able to give you more of an idea whatis happening.

Full instructions from microsoft on how to get around this are found here;

I have Ubuntu as my native OS, and it originally took up all of my hard drive space, which was about 200GB, but I booted Ubuntu from a Live CD and partitioned about 70 GB out of the original 200, and had planned on installing my Windows Vista back into my computer. When I select the unused 70 GB partition, it gives me a message kind of like "Windows was unable to find a partition with the appropriate volume." I took this like I didn't have enough space. It's Windows Vista Home Premium, and I looked around and everywhere I look it says it should take 40 GB of space and need about 15 GB of free space. I have enough, don't I? The entire 70 GB partition is completely blank. I don't know how to fix this problem. Help?

A:Windows Vista Installation Issue

When you shrink the volume, how many partitions are on the disk at the time? An MBR disk can only have a maximum of 4 partitions, so if your Ubuntu installation created 4 partitions, you won't be able to create any more (regardless of how much space is free).

The Keys are specific to the version of the operating system . . The Home Key will only workd with a Home version . . You can either reinstall the Home version or buy a Pro version . . If you choose to buy the Pro version, I would get windows 7 instead of Vista

My computer is only 1 year and 3 months old and only in these last three months have i started to have problems with the start up. It starts like this... i turn it on and then it freezes about 1 minute into being on the desktop. So i reset it and then it will work. Then it gets worse... after a week or so it takes more tries to get it to start up but it will still start up eventually. Then it just won't start up. Even in safe mode it was freezing just after start up. So i took it to get it fixed at a computer place and they said it was all fixed. No viruses or anything just many many registry errors (but i don't know what that means). So now a month and a half later it is doing the same thing. And it's gradually getting worse like it did before. It took me 6 tries this morning to get it started up. So please help me. Tell me if there is anything i can do. I'm wondering if there's a hardware fault or something.

I'll try to list what i know my computer has because i don't know how to get any more information:
Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2
Intel Core 2 Duo 3.16GHz
6GB RAM
500GB Hard Drive
856MB GeForce GTX 260 Graphics Card
If you need any more information, just tell me how to find it and i will get it for you. Thanks.

When my vista (32bit) computer is ON, and my windows 7 (32bit) computer is OFF, the network map feature works, and vice-versa. However, when they're both on, for some odd reason, they both fail to make the network map. I get the standard "An error happened during the mapping process", which doesn't help. Also, the following things are true:No computers are restarting
The vista computer (a laptop) has very good signal strength, and the win7 computer is wired
The computers can see each other when going to the "Network" part in explorer, and they can access each other's shares

So what could be the cause of only the network map messing up?

Hi guys, this is a strange problem...
A friend's computer, running Vista Home Premium, is having issues installing MSI packages. If you try to open the file graphically, it processes a little, then does nothing, and then it proceed to slowly lock up if you try to click on anything else.

I checked the Windows Installer service, and turned it on, and it made no difference. It still locks up.

The interesting thing is that if you use the command line, and manually run the MSI file (using "msiexec /i SomeFile.msi"), it starts up fine, goes though the graphical install fine, and works just fine.

But if you try just double-clicking the MSI, no dice. What could this be?

My girlfriends computer crashed last night and when we try to restart it it gets just past the windows loading bar and then freezes with a black screen. I tried running startup repair and loading in Safe Mode to no avail. I have since used a vista disk to boot from and that resulted in the same freeze in that same location as booting from the hard drive. I managed to get an error report which gave me the following codes:

0x00000024 (0x0000000000190444, 0xFFFFFA80061c9530, 0xFFFFFFFF0000102, 0x0000000000000000)

I am reletively computer literate, have always been able to save my computers except when something hardware went wrong, but this is something that seems beyond me from my tinkering. I have been unsuccessful in finding out what exactly each of these codes meant, though I know they tell me what is wrong. Any help anyone could give would be appreciated as her entire college career is on the computer, including all the information she needs to complete her senior seminar this semester and graduate.

Hi Blankman8503,

When using the Vista disc, did you run the 'Automatically repair my system' feature? Or how far did you get with the Vista disc before it resulted in an error?

The faultcode itself, hex for 0x24, is an NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM_ERROR. A guess is that the ntfs.sys (file system driver) is corrupt. So a repair or reinstallation would most likely solve the issue. If not, i would suspect a failing harddrive. But please get back to us with more information before you do anything else.

Ok, here is the issue!

A Lady friend called me and said she can't remember her password on her laptop (Sony Vaio), I said no problem I'll come over and reset it. I brought my trusty Ultimate boot CD and off I went, the Vaio was off so I loaded the CD and powered on and booted up, cleared the password and got out.

My question is this: Will using Ultimate boot CD (Designed for XP) cause boot up problems in Vista?

The computer will not boot in any mode and I have ran the Vista start up repair disk 5 times and each time it says that it can not be repaired automatically.

Did I BLOW it up or what?

Thank you,

Mark

A:I think I blew it up! Windows Vista issue

Yes the folder structure is different
And what happens is the disk actually creates these folders if they're not there (how bad is that ?!!)

Anyway I usually say use this instead http://www.techspot.com/vb/post633339-2.html

So now you know! (at least two CDs to create there)

------------

Now the problem, and how to fix it

Well even if you Repair Vista: http://vistasupport.mvps.org/windows_vista_repair_options.htm
You'll still have these extra user folders (which probably can't be removed, due to ownership issues)
I'd say remove the HardDrive, back it up in another working computer
Then re-install Windows Vista

That's what I'd do

It was all okay then but when I removed the ATI CCC entry from the startup programs list in Windows Defender I began to experience serious problems about boot up times. I tried uninstalling both the AV and the ATI software but that was of no use. Additionally I have to wait all the startup programs to launch before I can initiate a task which requires administrator privileges. Otherwise no prompt box displaying allow deny appears even I have clicked on the program executable. Thanks very much for help.

There's not much to do other than to re-load Windows.

I doubt very much that you'd get alot of help (if any) in resetting your password, because we have no way of knowing whether you're legit, or are pretending to have lost your password so as to harvest help in hacking into a computer that does not belong to you.

I'm sure you'll understand...

And when you do get your system back, be sure to this time choose a password that you can't forget, and then top also create a password hint to help you should you forget again.

Hi. I hope someone can help me with this odd situation. My friend has a Dell Studio 1735 laptop that he wants formatted to factory condition. Keep in mind his CDROM drive does not work so I am trying to use the recovery partition to do this. On start up I hit F8 and get to "Repair Your Computer." I then pick the correct language, pick the Admin account, select the Dell factory restore option, it barely starts to format it and then VERY QUICKLY just reboots the computer. I never saw anything like it. What the heck is going on? Why would it just reboot like this and not follow through with the format? I can't get around it and to even get to that point I have to work like mad or it reboots before I even get to the format option. Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It is a customer's machine, and it was brought in for the same reason...can't get on the Internet. The other machines are getting a 192.168.1.XXX address with a 192.168.1.1 for the Gateway. As you can see, the problematic machine is getting a 169.254.218.37 address no matter what it is plugged into with no Gateway address. When I try and do an IPCONFIG /RELEASE, I get an error that says.."An error occured while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1 : The system can not find the file specified." I have added a new NIC, same issue, replaced that with another NIC, same issue. Does not work in safe mode either. Please help!!

Hey, Tech Support Forums!
I came here as reccomended by a friend from Malwareremoval.com as we encountered some problems on my computer after cleaning up some Malwares.
Okay, I dont know really what to include in my post so I'll just start by stating my problems and then putting up a screenshot of it.

Just a note, that I am an administrator on my computer.

So, here are the problems:
1.) The network button on my taskbar is showing an "unkown status," it says that acces is denied.

2.) It will not let me click on items with the security button on it. What it does sometimes is just flash a window and then it disappears.

3.) It will not let me perform any updates.

4.) It will not let me enable or disable Windows Defender.

EDIT #1:
5.) I dont know if this is with the security issue also, but it will not let me use my messenger.

Those are the problems i found so far. I will let you know if i find any more.

Windows DVD Maker For VISTA x32 Fix!!

Ok I think I figured out the easiest fix with no downloading go here go there type stuff, it's plain and simple, it might not work for you but it sure as hell works for me.

Problem: 1. DVD Maker gets to 0.0% - 0.1% to encoding FREEZE.
Problem: 2. Can't even CTRL+ALT+DLT, Hard boot everytime = bad for computer
Problem: 3. I think it's combined effort of the DVD drive and DVD Maker together.

Solution: 1. Trick the computer! No seriously I just think I found a way around it for now.
Solution: 2. Right click DVD Drive - Erase this disc.
Solution: 3. Right click DVD Drive - Format.. Yes, format disc with the date box thingy. Let it format. No specific date or anything is required just hit ok, I do.
Solution: 4. Right click DVD Drive - Erase this disc again when format is complete.
Solution: 5. Ready to Begin Burn.
Solution: 6. *Optional*- Playing with the burn speed in the DVD Maker options, from fastest to slowest might help to if it still presents problems.

Note: I have to do this every time I burn a DVD, doesn't take long and has worked every time I've done it.

Note: The reason I erase, format, then erase again is because "erase this disc" just didn't, and still doesn't ever go away, even after all that, and I think it's just not registering to my computer that the disc is empty so DVD Maker goes into this like infinite loop of trying to burn with stuff already on it, when in fact there isn't.

I know it sounds silly, but... Read more

I have a Dell Dimension E520 Computer running Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, 32 bit. All windows Vista software is up to date.
I installed ITunes and have upgrade to version 9.02. I recently received TurboTax on a CD that contains both the Windows and Mac versions of the software.
When I try to install, the autorun feature does not work. When I select the disc drive with the CD inside (I have two and the same issue exists in both), the drive symbol has an apple on it and the only files it appears to read are the MAC files. It does not seem to see the Windows files.
I have placed numerous CDs in my disc drives and if they are Windows only CDs, the drive allows me to view files, etc. If the disc contains both MAC and Wndows files (like Turbotax), I cannot detect the Windows Files.
To my non-technical mind, it appears ITunes has caused my disc drives to default to a setting that detects MAC files before Windows files. Is anyone else having this problem and can assist me in a solution?
Thanks.

Whenever I start up my computer, after about normally 5-10 minutes my screen resolution will uncontrollably change quickly. Sometimes it does this basically immediately other times it will take upwards of twenty minutes.

If I try to immediately turn my computer back on after this happens, most of the time windows crashes while it is trying to boot up.

I tried to reinstall my display drivers for my video card (Nvidia 9800m gt), but it didn't help out. I have also attempted to use windows system restore, although it did not work. I have also reinstalled windows.

I really have no idea whats wrong or how to fix it, so any input is appreciated.

A:Windows Vista 64bit issue

You have a laptop? (the "m" on the end of your graphics card # suggests so)

By "screen resolution will uncontrollably change quickly" do you mean that you can still vaguely see the picture but the resolution keeps changing, or are you getting flickering lights/colours and artifacts?

Also, use a program like speedfan to check the temperature of your graphics card when it is getting close to that time where it usually starts to change resolution.

hello! i am running windows vita home premium 32-bit and i have a problem with a recording program called Fraps. my version of fraps is 2.9.4. Some of you may know this program. Well, I was recording a video of me playing counter-strike: source on steam using fraps 2.9.4 then when i was done recording my video i stopped recording it, i go into the location where the video was saved, which is C:/Fraps, but when i look in the folder, i see the video file but the problem is that the video is only a few seconds long when it should have been almost a minute since that was how long i was recording for, and when i try to play it with windows media player it says "windows media player has stopped working", and the it closes I tried to open it with quicktime and it said i have to download additional software, but i didn't download anything from quicktime. I am trying to open it with windows media player, but it will not work. recently, i have (maybe only gamers will know what i am talking about in this next sentnece) installed some skins for my weapons from fpsbanana for my game. i also have installed a program into my computer called "GCFScape" that just allows me to edit files in GCF format (some files in my Steam folder are in GCF format and i edit them just to change the main menu text for CS source just for fun), which doesn't really have anything to do with fraps. please help me fix this problem so i can watch the video and so i can post the video online... Also, is your Fraps registered?
