Thinkpad X1C6 trackpoint and touchpad stopped working

Q: Thinkpad X1C6 trackpoint and touchpad stopped working

My trackpad and trackpoint died while I was editing text (no load, no updates, just typing and stuff). Trying to fix that I successfully updated BIOS on fresh windows installation and tried to update touchpad/trackpoint firmware, but got errors, similar to the ones in that thread. In particular, I am getting :"fail to enter transparent mode" error on the trackpoint firmware update"0x0" error on the touchpad firmware update No found solutions helped. Any thoughts or ideas? Warranty service is not operating at the weekends, so I would love to hear any suggestions.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Good Day!I'm from the Philippines and I bought a refurbished thinkpad p50 from the US at 2016 and I extended its NBD warranty until June 1, 2018. The touchpad and trackpad suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago and it seems that the bios can't recognize them. The wifi reception seems to have also weaken, requiring me to be closer to the wifi source than before. I also tried reinstalling the drivers but it can't still identify the two pointing device. I'm actually planning to ship it to the US this week before my NBD warranty expires, but I don't know anyone from the US right now to avail the NBD service. May I know which address must I send it to, and the proper procedures to avail the repairs?I already spent $170 for the warranty extension last year, and I'll be spending another $100 for the DHL shipping to the US. May I also know if Lenovo will answer the shipping back to my country, since if not, I'll be spending another $100 for it to be shipped back to the Philippines?I also tried calling the service center from the US but I kept on having long calls with no response. Thanks!

Hello, I'm new here and I was hoping that someone could help me with my laptop.I have a IBM Lenovo T410, that was working very well with Windows 7 Professional, including the Touchpad and Trackpoint. Meanwhile, the hard drive got broke down and I decided to replace him with a SSD and upgraded SO to Windows 10, and then the problems became with Touchpad and Trackpoint. I already installed all the drives that I have found on Internet and on Lenovo forums and support pages but none works. Every time that I go to Control Panel > Mouse I get an error that tells me that there is a problem with Synaptics device, telling me to uninstall and reboot. Meanwhile, I installed windows 8.1 Pro, guessing that it could have some incompatibility with Windows 10, but the problem remains the same. Can anyone help me with this? How can I solve the problem? Where can I find the right drivers for my device?Thank you very much!

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?

Hey there! Just today, a rather big problem came up on my T430: The Synaptics Ultranav Driver seems to have stopped working.Keyboard is still working fine, and touchpad also works after uninstalling Synaptics Ultranav. Trackpoint never works and Touchpad stops working as soon as Windows (automatically) reinstalls Synaptics Ultranav. Both are enabled in BIOS. I've tried pretty much anything, from reinstlaling Synaptics drivers (multiple times) to updating BIOS. I'm at a loss here.I'm absolutely positive that this is a problem on Synaptics' side. This is what their controls panel looks like:As you see, touchpad and trackpoint are greyed out. Again, they're enabled in BIOS and I can rule out any hardware-side problem. Any kind of help would be highly appreciated.

Hi All, I have an almost new X280 laptop. The touchpad stopped working when i switched on the machine, yesterday i did not have any problems. What i tried:- driver updated- checked bios+windows settings (Touchpad is ON) In Device Manager under HID devices, there is "HID compliant touchpad" and "Synaptics HID-Complient Touch Pad Device". Here comes the strange part: if i disable "Synaptics HID-Compliant Touch Pad Device", the touchpad starts working but gestures are not working like scroll up/down with two fingers. When enabling it again it stops working again. (+when booting from Hirens, it works fine, so it is definately _not_ a hardware issue) Additional information: The Track Poing device and the buttons over the touchpad are working all the time, if "click" with the touchpad it works fine all the time (for example i move the cursor with a USB mouse over any icon on the desktop, i double-click the touchpad, the program or document opens). Can you help me please, does anyone has an idea what the solution could be? I don't want to reinstall Windows because of this...  Thank you, Attila

I have had this notebook for a few years and it has performed well. Today however I brought it out of hibernation mode, and it beeped. The keyboard and touchpad were not working. I restarted the computer and it beeped as it was loading, giving a message that said "Keyboard not detected." Once windows booted up, same problem. I shut down and restarted, same problem. I then unplugged everything, took the battery out, put it back together, and now it works fine. I'm a little concerned about this. Is this an indication of a possible hardware failure, or could something else more innocuous be causing it? Thanks in advance!

I've tried updating the drivers, rolling back the drivers and uninstalling the drivers and installing the latest one. None of it works. I managed to get it working once with a BIOS update but as soon as I put it in sleep mode, both became unresponsive again. Under Mouse Porperties the TouchPad option is grayed out and the TrackPoint option is sometimes grayed out and sometimes not. Regardless, it is completely unresponsive when enabled and disabled.

Hello community I have this old  thinkpad, which i am very fond of. However, recently the touchpad and trackpoint are acting up.Both right-buttons have stopped working. If i right click on the desktop, nothing happens - until i left-click... then the context-menu keeps popping up until i click on something else. Eventually both left buttons also stop working. I then have to press ctrl alt del and move the mouse over the on-screen-buttons initially they do not respond. after a while they become active again. Then the left button works for a little while until it starts over again... have tried updating drivers, removing the touchpad and trackpoint,  reinstalling windows 10 and flashing newest BIOS without any improvement. External mouse works flawlessly,,, Suggestions are most appreciated :-) Thanks, Kasper, Denmark

Hi, A week ago I updated Windows 10 to the latest version (1903). I have Win 10 Enterprise, 64bit version. This morning I discovered that two fingers scroll on my touchpad is not working. It worked before the update. I am not even sure that I have any driver installed. I can see no options nor I have any possibility to configure anything about touch pad from Mouse and pointing devices config or from Devices in Windows System settings (there is just touchpad sensitivity combo-box and nothing else)...  The rest of touchpad is working. I have Lenovo Vantage installed, no use of any options there. Could not find any applicable solutions using Google. So I decided to try here. I could provide additional informmation if needed. Please help. Thanks. Bojan

Dear all, I'm having trouble with both my touchpad&trackpoint not working properly. I am not sure whether there's something to do about my hardware or not, but all things started to mess up. I have been experiencing the issue that sometimes my touchpad and trackpoint didn't work. At first I solved it through disabling driver signature enforcement, but later on both the touchpad and trackpoint lost its function after I hibernate/sleep. I have to restart the system and select that advanced boot option again to use them. I don't know the exact time the issue started to deepen, but, I'm guessing that it's about the touchpad firmware update. I installed it someday and after rebooting the program told me that the attempt to update is failed. And after that the touchpad&trackpoint became completely unusable. Both the device can be seen in the device manager but they just lost their functions. I have tried reinstalling the driver and all the installing progress seem to be completed except the firmware updating failure. Here's the log from TrackPointDetect.exe: TouchPad-Flash Utility2018-08-24 23:38:14Command Line: TrackPointDetect.exeOS: 64-bit[WARNING]: WriteCommand 0xF5 => 0xFE failed.[WARNING]: Retry 1: WriteCommand 0xF5 => 0xFE failed.[WARNING]: Retry 2: WriteCommand 0xF5 => 0xFE failed.[WARNING]: WriteCommand 0xE8 => 0xFE failed.[WARNING]: Retry 1: WriteCommand 0xE8 => 0xFE failed.[WARNING]: Retry 2: WriteComman... I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

Thus far I failed to identify the circumstances in which the touchpad stops working. It seems to sometimes happen when it checks for an update. What is also curious that the cursor will sometimes mess up such that the text cursor will be displayed as the context menu cursor. Not sure if this is related. The touchpad works again after restart. Everything is up-to-date, running Windows 10 (1909). The TrackPoint is unaffected by this.

Recently got a new Carbon x1, and everything was working fine, but once I closed the laptop and when I woke it up neither TrackPoint nor touchpad was working. Reboots didn't help. Tried installing Synaptics drivers - it said there was no device for update. Device manager detects the touchpad as Microsoft mouse with corresponding drivers (screenshot attached).  Also tried installing update for TrackPoint from the drivers list, it said it needed a reboot to install, after reboot there was an error window that suggested trying once again, several times I saw this message.Anyone have this? Are there any possible solutions?(Searched on the forum, but the solutions were not for my case or didn't work)P.S. It would be kinda stupid for a $1500 laptop not to work because of a touchpad

So, during the windows installer, no mouse. I couldn't see the pointer, neither the touchpad or trackpoint worked. I managed through using the keyboard, then once I got to the desktop I installed the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad" driver and rebooted. Still not working. I installed the thinkvantage system update, it detects no updates. I installed the service bridge. No updates. I then made a linux live USB that I use to install manjaro on all my laptops, yes everything worked out of the box on my previous x1 carbon. Touchpad doesn't work, xorg doesn't even recognize any touchpad present. Anyone else have this? Any solutions? This is actually my 2nd X1 carbon; the first works well but the mouse buttons are loose so Lenovo promised waived restocking and shipping with the purchase of a new order of equal or greater value; I ordered another one with plans to return the first one, because I really needed to keep it for work while I waited for the new one. The new one is actually flawless in terms of build, mouse buttons are solid, the CMOS battery is not loose and producing a rattling noise as it is in the first one, and the bottom cover doesn't have the clicking noise that so many are afflicted with. Really I'm willing to try anything to fix the touchpad.

Hi whitehouse87,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you again.

As I understand that you are facing issue with Touchpad & Trackpoint buttons are not working in T410.
You have tried almost everything & I don't think so its related to software or drivers. You can check without drivers once whether clicks are working or not. Else its a hardware issue for sure

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Hi all. I've seen this issue posted about many times before and can't get a hold of lenovo. When I try to use the "contact us - email" page the link doesn't work!  I have a x250 I purchased in 2015. It has been working great until recently. I usually use the trackpoint and have the touchpad disabled. Recently it just stops working and the only way I can get the mouse to function again is by using an external standard mouse. When I go to mouse settings it doesn't even recognize that I have a touchpad/trackpoint, even after installing updated ULTRANAV drivers. This also extends to the keyboard, some days the keyboard will not work at all. The only thing I can do is restart 100 times and cross my fingers it works one time. I've tried moving the mouse at the login screen, pressing firmly on the touchpad, etc. Nothing works aside from the off chance it cooperates after restarting. So, I have updated drivers numerous times for windows 10 and yet my trackpoint/touchpad still seem to rarely work. I am out of a warranty on this so I'm not sure what to do. My boyfriend is suggesting a factory reset, does anyone think that will work or have any other ideas? Thanks.

Hi All, I've had a rather weird problem over the past week. I'll be working on my computer and everything is working fine, until I eventually close/reopen my laptop after which point in time the TouchPad and TrackPoint stops working completely (e.g. I can't move the cursor, I can't scroll, I can't click...but I can use the keyboard). Note that this doesn't happen 100% of the time but more like 85%. If I restart the computer, 9 times out of 10 that resolves the problem, but it's not the most elegant solution in the world. Interestingly, my USB mouse still works even when my TrackPad isn't working, thus I can't tell if it is a hardware or software issue. Does anyone have suggestions as to how to proceed? I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit). Thanks!Z

I tried the advanced setting in control panel, but the entire trackpoint configuration option was blacked out. Does anybody experience similar issues with this update and have any suggestions on how to do a home fix for this? I have been making do with the touchpad and a bluetooth mouse, but it does not feel very "thinkpad" this way.....

Thought this was resolved some time ago.  Please report back if it helps - or doesn't.

I have a problem with the trackpoint, since it is enabled in BIOS my keyboard is not working anymore. When i disabled the trackpoint the keyboard work propperly. I think it was the update of Synaptic Pointing Device driver to 19.3.4.213, because i restore windows completely and the problem do not resolve. The trackpoint is not working well also.Driver version:Previously Windows update the driver to this version automatically:
