Genuine Lenovo charger 'unauthorised', G700 not charging

Q: Genuine Lenovo charger 'unauthorised', G700 not charging

The charger supplied with my Lenovo G700 recently stopped working completely (it was making a weird bleeping sound when plugged in as well), so I purchased another genuine Lenovo charger identical to the first. However, my laptop doesn't recognise that this is an authentic Lenovo product and keeps telling me that I'm using an 'unauthorised battery', so my laptop can only be plugged in, and not charging. So far I've been unable to find a suitable fix on google. I'm reluctant to buy another charger as they are so expensive, in case I encounter the same problem again. Any suggesions/experiences would be very helpful! Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If the original charger made strange noises, you might have damaged the power circuitry on the motherboard

My Lenovo G700, which is a week old, is saying that it is "plugged in, not charging". It was working fine until last night when I closed the lid to put it into sleep mode for the first time. I have checked that it is set to maximum battery life and it is still not working. It's stuck on 98%. I am severely disappointed that something like this has happened a week into having my first Lenovo. I hope someone can help me rectify this problem.

A:Lenovo G700 Plugged In Not Charging

hi Zadeth,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try to:
1. Turn off the machine and remove the AC adapter and battery
2. Hold the power button for 10secs then plug the AC adapter back in.
3. Turn the computer ON and when it gets to Windows, slide the battery back in place and observe the charge.

Alternatively, try to use the battery charge until it asks you to plug the AC adapter and observe if the charge goes all the way to 100%.

Let me know your findings

hi my fellow Windowsians. The computer I'm currently on is the family computer. My mum had Malware uploaded onto it by a third party, receiving a phone call at home saying they were from Microsoft and...the usual rubbish (my poor mum had never heard of people doing 'such a thing'),that our computer will stop working because..... I wont go into it, im more than sure everyone (except my poor mum) has heard it.
Im definatley no Computer Tech, but after having someone come into our home and, the computer being taken to a Computer Shop (twice), it still has the Malware on it. After studying, ALOT of studying, I found out after changing the graphics, down the bottom right hand side it says Window7 build 7600, This copy of Windows is not genuine. If there's anybody who has a bit of time, I can probably be walked through how to fix the problem.
Thanx serena

Sounds like you need to first make sure the malware is gone. Any of these sites can help:

When I plug the charger in the message on the battery icon on the bottom toolbar reads as "73%, plugged in, not charging". Obviously the laptop is recognising the charger (i.e "plugged in") but it is not allowing the battery to charge.
I have installed every update on the computer and I have recently searched for any outstanding BIOS updates. The system seems to suggest there is a BIOS update to be installed yet when I try to install it the system says that it cannot detect a charger, and won't complete the update, or it won't complete the update without a charger plugged in in the first place. It's a no-win situation. The computer and charger are only 14 months old so this is very unsatisfactory. When I remove the battery the computer operates on AC power only, so again the charger is working, it simply won't charge the battery and therefore once the battery runs down to 0, which it will eventually, I will be limited to using AC power only.
If I restart the laptop with the charger plugged in it diverts me to a warning page saying that the charger is not recognised and I am given the option to go to the BIOS setup, go to diagnostics or to continue. If I choose "continue" it simply returns me to this warning page every time so the only way to power up the laptop is to do so with the AC charger out, and to then plug it in once the system has started so that the battery doesn't drain completely.
Please help.

A:Inspiron 15 5559 charger not charging battery (manufacturers charger being used)

An unrecognized AC adapter will not charge the battery.
First try a new OEM Dell adapter.  If that's also not recognized, replace the DC power jack:
www.parts-people.com/index.php
If neither the new adapter nor the DC jack solves the problem, you've got a bad charge circuit - replace the mainboard.

Hello Apologies if someone has already posted this query and got a response. My G700 has Lenovo's Energy Management software (8.0.2.4) installed. Until recently, the battery would charge (and drain) as expected - it is the original that came with the laptop a few weeks ago. I'm running Windows 8 and haven't upgraded to 8.1 yet. However, now I get a pop-up box from the software every time I boot up from saying that "the system does not support batteries that are not genuine Lenovo-made or authorized.....". Also, the software is preventing the battery from being charged, so I'm having to use the mains power. Lenovo's support has suggested that it might be a (physical) problem with the battery, but it seems to be a software-related. Please can someone help with this one? Is there an update to the software that I can install? Can it be disabled to allow the battery to be charged? Does the problem go away with an upgrade to Windows 8.1?  Thanks in advance!

A:G700 - Energy Management says battery is not genuine and won't charge it!

Hi Ammo23,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

This error may be a Software/Firmware Related or the battery is really bad and being read as not genuine.
can you try Doing this,

 1. Try Performing a power Drain and BIOs Reset.

Remove the AC adapter and the battery, Now Hold Down the power Button for at least 10 sec. This will drain the Mainboard.
Reconnect the Ac and Battery and Turn on the system,Right away start tapping F2 to boot into BIOS Setting.
Hit F9 to Load defaults and enter for Yes then hit F10 To save and Exit then Enter for Yes.

 2. When Booted Back up to Windows,
Open Device Manager and under Battery Look for Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control method Battery
Right Click On it and uninstall it, Restart after uninstallation.

Check if the issue will be the same after the Steps.
If still the same, Uninstall the Lenovo Energy Management from Control Panel / Programs and restart the system.
check if the system will charge without the Energy Management Software,

If the same thing happened I would Suggest you call Lenovo Support right away and report the steps your did and still getting the same result.

Let me know your Findings
Cheers!

Hi,
So this Lenovo G700 Laptop is a few years old but before I received it, it had been used only a handful of times. I have recently been on holiday and before I left I unplugged my laptop from the mains and so the battery ran down to nothing. I came home and plugged it back in again, turned my laptop on and now it is telling me that I have the wrong battery or battery charger and so it will not charge. However, I know for a fact that both the battery and the charger are the ones that came with the laptop when my stepfather bought it new around three years ago. Any ideas would be helpful!

Thanks

Hi! I have 4 years old Lenovo Yoga Ideapad 13.  The problems started couple weeks ago, when the computer wouldn't run or start up without being plugged in. I followed some other people's advice and got a new battery. It seemed to fix to problem for while. Now few weeks after the same problem stands with the new battery. It won't start or run, but when plugged in it says the battery is 100% and charging.   I tried checking if the charger isn't working, but it charges all fine on my other Yoga, which has the same charger model. So please note that this isn't the common problem that is seen here on the forums, that the battery doesnt charge. I'm pretty frustrated, as this problem persists even though I changed the battery. Anyone have ideas? I figured it could have something to do with the battery wire connecting battery to the motherboard, but there doesn't seem to be any defects or loose wires.  However, I tried taking off the battery connection wire when plugged in, and then I get the message "No battery detected" instead of the regular "100% Fully charged". Any help is appreciated.

Hello. After taking my laptop apart again I realized I can actually add another ram stick but I'm not sure if it's worth doing. I'm aware that I have to get a Crucial 4g or 8g SODIMM DDR3 stick to go with/replace my 4g  stick that came with the laptop with a total cap of 16g to upgrade to. However given the limitations of the G700 I'm unsure if adding more RAM will be worth doing as I'm saving for a real PC. Is it going to be worth the $30-$100 to increase my RAM or should I just wait until I build my PC. I play a modderatly modded Civilization 6, Mount&Blade Warband, and other less taxing games. Other than nearly 100% freezing the laptop (requiring holding the power button) a few times, low settings, and used to mouse delay/low fps in some cases it's still playable imo Any opinions are welcome and thx for your time

A:Lenovo G700 BlueTooth issue

Have you physically looked at the hardware (Wireless Card) and ran the units serial / model / part numbers thru Google to see if it does in fact have bluetooth?  I ask this as the listing you link to states the bluetooth module is "optional" rather than included as fact.

I would also recommend that you download your service / maintenance manual from the Lenovo Support tab of this website and look at the listing of parts for WiFi and bluetooth, which you can use as a "reference" tool to see exactly what part is in your notebook.

Once you have this information, post back and we will see what we can do to assist you with further troubleshooting.

I've had a G700 running Windows 8.1 for a few years now. Recently I've been experiencing a problem where I'll suddenly lose wireless connection and get the troubleshooting message that "the default gateway is not avaible". It's a very frequent problem (according to my troubleshooting log it's happened over 200 times this month) and I'd really, really like to be rid of it. I'm using a Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter. I saw some people with similar issues, and I've already changed the power setting so the computer can't turn off the driver to save power. It didn't help. I saw some suggestions to lower the adapter's "roaming aggeression" under the advanced tab, but I don't have that option (I do have "Roaming tendency" which I set to moderate but again, it didn't seem to help). The only thing I can think to do next might be to reinstall the whole driver, but I wanted to see what the nice folks here suggested. So yeah. Lenovo G700. Broadcom 802.11n. Windows 8.1. Randomly losing wireless connection because the default network gateway is unavalible. Any suggestions?

Hi!I have problem with lenovo g700. A few months ago my display has broken, it turned out when i push harder in keyboard section where are keys like I, O, P, J, K, L my display lights up. So I thought that it must have been tape from display backlight. When i unscreawed keyboard screws and unattached a keyboard then everything seemd to be working. But unfortunately it didn't. Laptop does not turn on. When I click power button it seems like it has power because power diode is on, but can't turn on. I checked all tapes and and power button is working because when I hold it for a few seconds the power diode turns off. Also, when i plug power supply it turns power diode. I tried also every magic trick with unhooking ram and turning without power supply and battery. Maybe I damaged something while repairing but it seems like on motherboard there is no scrathes at all, thin layer of dust ( I think i could see scratches from screwdriver ). What should I do? Thank you in advance.

Hi,My G700 is three years old, on W8, no problem until now. When I put it in sleep mode, it starts back immediately when I press a key or raise the cover. But if I put it in full power off, it goes off but then, I have to wait between one up to three hours recently, to get Windows start screen. I mean the power starts, fan starts, disk Led is on (battery Led too), but nothing else, the screen is off (so black). The case is not as other "black screen" cases, where the screen stays black whatever they do. In my case also I can do nothing to get Lenovo logo at power on, I cant enter Bios setup. I tried also to remove battery, power cord and press Power button to discharge condensators, then connect power cord, nothing but the fan and disk runing and disk led on. I just can wait one hour or more. The only explanation I can see, is one month ago, the first time it happened, I was using Avast free antivirus, and Avast did a new update. So I was thinking after this update, that Avast starts a long full scan at power on, so I removed Avast and activated Windows Defender. No problem when I used just sleep mode and wake up. But same problem when I put the comp in full power off.Maybe Windows Defender starts also a full scan at that time? Now I use only sleep mode ; yesterday I travelled for 10 hours, and the comp started immediately when I pressed a key! I will be pleased to have any advice from you.

If you haven't tried a new Dell OEM adapter, that's next.  If you have, and have already replaced the DC jack, the only other possibility is that the charge circuit is damaged, and the only way to repair that is to replace the mainboard.

Hi guys, I'm dealing with a problem which is currently (but I sincerely hope, not permanently) rendering my G700 useless. When I attempt to boot my PC it freezes at the Lenovo splash screen. I've waited ample amount of time but nothing appears to happen. One time I waited and managed to get into a Windows troubleshooting menu where I attempted to wipe the PC and start fresh, but this also froze at the lenovo screen soon after. Pressing the Novo button gives me 4 options but it appears to freeze, not allowing me to scroll through the options, or press enter. If I remove the harddrive it tells me to insert media and press OK, but once again, it appears to freeze as pressing enter doesn't do anything. I've tried booting from a USB stick but can't seem to get into any setting which would allow me to do this.I Removed DVD drive as I read on this forum that it was an issue with different Lenovo laptops, and since I don't use it anyway, decided to give it a go, but unfortunately nothing changed :-( If any kind soul could advise me with what I could possibly do, it be would be greatly appreciated as I'm dreading the thought of having to purchase a new laptop. Thanks :-)

A:charging via usb c using non HP charger

wingman1800 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! The problem is, if you use a non-HP charger and that damages the PC in any way, you have blown the warranty -- and the total cost of repairs will fall on you. You really want this to happen? If you remember the problems with the Samsung Note7 exploding, ALL the instances of that happening (at least in the beginning) were due to non-Samsung chargers. The problem with USB-C is that it can deliver a LOT of power to the device, which is SUPPOSED to be regulated so the device does not overheat, but chargers that don't adhere properly to the USB-C standard can easily overheat your device. So, you're risking destroying your device in order to save a little money.

Hi

first off dont use anything but an official charger, the cheap ones can and will damage your motherboard due to them being unregulated and supplying to much current.

If the charger has the light on but wont charge then the internal cable is broken and may be shorting out inside the sleeving.

check the cable by eye for severe kinks or bends in the cable.

Should you find one, cut the section just before and after the kink and then strip the cable back and join the wires and test it, if it works then you can either solder the wires and use heat shrink plastic to join them or buy a new one.

i'm trying to charge via the essentialphone charger which charges at 9v 3a (27w) but it's not working. it SEEMS to be able to keep it not discharging, however it doesnt charge. and if i turn off computer, it still doesnt charge. very weird?

A:Yoga 720 13" not charging via 27W usb-c charger

Not weird.  The 720 needs 20V to charge.  If your adapter can't provide that or correctly negotiate that it's not surprising that it doesn't work.

I purchased the Anker PowerCore + 20100 USB-C charger in order to be able to charge my laptop at school without the need for the included powercable or a wall outlet. When I plug the included USB-c cable into the corresponding port it displays the message "For full performance, connect to a higher capacity power adapter" (HP system information) . Is there a way that I can get this to go away and charge via the PowerCore, or is that not possible? Also not really sure what board I should have put this in but oh well

Battery won't charge, have 2 batteries and both in great shape. Now for some reason they won't charge and checking under power options it shows they aren't charging but reads the battery.

Can this be caused by a software problem?

I purchased a HP Pavilion x2-10-n113dx refurbished from Groupon in April 2016. This tablet stopped recognizing a charger when it's plugged in to the device. Is this the charging port itself or the charger causing this issue.  I only have about 25% battery life left on the device.

Hello, this is urgent. This just happened a while ago. I was playing a game here on my laptop and it was under 20% battery life, as I continued to play when it was plugged in. And all of a sudden I hear a spark and then my laptop shut down unexpectedly, and I immediately unplugged it and tried turning it on but it wouldn't turn on for a few minutes. Afterwards everything was normal, but as I plugged the charger back in the light indicator on the side of my laptop wont lit up anymore. So I'm not sure if it's my laptop or the charger is broken. Please help.

You need to replace it with a genuine Dell replacement adapter. Aftermarkets will NOT work on that unit.

I've already tried uninstalling the battery charging program and letting it search for a new program, but it still isn't charging. what is my next step?

If the jack on the computer where the charger plugs into is loose, then you need to have the jack soldered back onto the motherboard by a local computer repair shop.

Hi guys, I've had my HP Envy for just over 2 years now, and already gone through one charger due to fault, and have had this new charger for over a year now which has worked fine till now. It is a genuine charger and of the right power output as far as im aware (19.5V, 6.1A, 120W) but only now does my laptop greet me with a message saying along the lines of 'thanks for using hp parts, you'll need a higher capacity output' and now my laptop doesn't charge but is kept alive when plugged in. I've had so many issues with this laptop, it massively overheats, its massively slow, and the charge the battery holds has always been an issue, and I probably won't buy another HP.Is it the battery, charger, or something different altogether?Sorry for the rant but I hope someone can help. CheersAdam

I have been experiencing a few misc problems with this laptop and I am well aware that it is dying but I would like to know if any of this I can do a quick fix to help holding off till I finally can afford my gaming rig. 1. Restarting and shutting down can cause all audio and brightness control to no longer work. Usually after a a little while videos stop playing as well when audio goes out. Restarts usually a guarantee to do this when not fixing something. I go to device manager and unistall the audio parts and restart to fix that. I manually install a different driver to get my brightness control back whenever it stops working. I used to have this issue with my mic but that turned out to be damage from switching to windows 10 and back which is fixed now. 2. Background returned to windows 10 default as windows 8.1 . This only happened once but my background randomly changed from my game character to windows 10 default. Original picture was even missing from where I placed it. Re-downloaded and hasn't reverted back to windows 10 default background so far. Mostly curious if the picture randomly corrupted. 3. Random things in recycling bin. I randomly noticed StarCraft2 saves in my recycling bin. The problem is I had to google the game to even know what it is. Only thing I came up with is that maybe it's the account I'm using though I may be an idiot when it comes to this. As a handme down laptop I never bothered making a new profile and use it when logging in to... Read more

Hey, my old charger to my laptop just stopped workin, so i had to buy u new one. Here is the thing, old one was 120W but the new one is only 90W, and i am having problem with charging. Its only charging for a while and then it stops and i have to unplug it from laptop and plug it in again. Can anyone tell me why is it doing this weird stuff ? Thankss

A:While plug in, charger is charging for (5-20min)

It may be getting hot and shutting off, especially since it is a lower wattage than the original. Is it a universal? Did you make sure it has the same voltage as the original? Some generic replacements are poor quality.
