BIOS Update for Tecra 8000 without Floppy Disk

Q: BIOS Update for Tecra 8000 without Floppy Disk

I searched in this forum for a solution to update the BIOS without a floppy drive. The only one i found was this thread [http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=66966&tstart=0] , but there is no .iso file for the tecra 8000 series.
is there any solution to get the new bios installed on my tecra 8000 without any floppy drive ?

Preferred Solution: BIOS Update for Tecra 8000 without Floppy Disk

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: BIOS Update for Tecra 8000 without Floppy Disk

I have checked Toshiba BIOS download page on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_bios.jsp and TRAD BIOS version is offered. This old Tecra is maybe 10 years old and at this time Toshiba has offered traditional BIOS update only.

Win versions are offered later with newer Tecra 9000/9100.
Sorry.

Maybe stupid question now but why do you need BIOS update?

So I think I might need to update my BIOS to solve a larger problem, however I'm stuck at the moment because I can't fit all the BIOS update files unto the floppy disk. The files that windows puts on the floppy disk to make it boot able take up 568,320 Bytes, and extracted, the files for updating the BIOS take up 1,111,277 Bytes. I really don't see how this is supposed to fit on a floppy disk that holds 1,457,664 Bytes. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for reading this!

My son is using a Tecra 780 DVD with windows NT loaded.
He cannot get a file transfered from his desktop to his laptop to continue his homework. He keeps getting an error message when he trys the external floppy drive. It reads: trouble accessing drive A....retry or cancel. We cant get it to work.....

SO, he decided to try his small mp3 disk player. He plugs it into the UBS port on the desktop and it becomes drive G. He copied the files onto this little thing and then plugged it into the Tecra Laptop..

Nothing happens. No drivers appear and no g drive is on the control panel.

Any suggestions?
I dont see the drive on the laptop.
I dont know if we need to load anything onto the laptop?
I dont know anything about hardware profiles on the NT platforms?

Help....

Hi,

I have a old Tecra 9100 with years of good service, and this is my first problem, but is a great one, after a forced reboot the screen shows a BIOS block 1 damaged message. I have tried to repair the BIOS upgrading to the last version I have found, the 1.6 one, but its a Windows version (to upgrade from a running Toshiba computer I think) and when I try to run it in another computer to generate a FDD and upgrade BIOS, I cant, beacuse a Toshiba common modules message.

Its there any BIOS diskette image-archive I can dowload to perform the BIOS upgrade in the BIOS?

Thanks in advance.

A:Tecra 9100 - BIOS block 1 damaged and how to update BIOS?

Hello

All you can find is stuff on Toshiba support page. I don't know where you live but try to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider.
They have access to Toshiba database and they can obtain all this for you. Make a call and ask for help. I am pretty sure they will help you to solve this BIOS issue.

A:Which RAM can I use for Tecra 8000

Hi

The Tecra 8000 is an oldie and therefore it needs RAM modules which are not more used in most notebook models.
As far as I know you need the 144-Pin PC100 SODIMM module.

The part number of 128MB is PA3005U

If you can find the jumper on the mobo to reset the bios - try that.

Or else remove the cmos battery for 20 or so minutes & replace.

That should reset the bios & wipe the password.

I read this forum and searched Google, but nothing helps.

I think the HDD on Tecra 8000 ( Pentium II , 266 Mhz ) is "dead".
I tried to replace it with one from another laptop to see if that would work.

The laptop doesn't recognize it, although I put everything back as the original.
Is there a special way or do I have to change something in the Bios?

A:Tecra 8000 does not recognize new HDD

Hi

The BIOS settings don?t need to be changed?

As long as you use the compatible HDD, the BIOS should recognize the HDD automatically without any big troubles?
What HDD did you use? What size, interface, etc?

The Tecra 8000 is a oldie? and I think you could use only the 4GB; 6GB; 9GB; 10GB; 14GB IDE HDDs.

Bigger HDDs would be not recognized by BIOS.

First, press F8 when starting the computer. It will then display a list of startup options. You want to disable the automatic restart. That will allow you to see the error code it's giving you long enough to write it down (make sure to include the number). Then post that information here for futher help.

It's running so slow, that I can't use it effectively.
It is a 266 Mhz, with 192 Mb ram.
Bios is 9.30
It was upgraded to Win 98 SE, after I boobooed the registry and the bios was flashed to 9.30.
Since I got it back, it is so slow that I really can't use it.
It takes about 10 minutes to boot up.
I have the factory configuration CD that installs Win 95 and all of the Toshiba drivers and defaults.

What do I need to do, before trying to run the configuration CD?

I think it's time for you to get yourself a new PC, my brother uses a PII 350 with 64mb RAM for his work and I often hear him yelling through his wall that it's too slow or has buggered up/crashed for some reason. Look on Ebay for a good cheap one, it sounds like you use yours for work. ANything with 256mb RAM and a processor of at least 1ghz (for value for money) will be more than capable. It could be that loads of crap has been left behind by WIn95 in the install of 98. Did you format the hard drive before you installed it?

Prior to that, it was running fine, with win 98.

A tech worked on it and installed Win 98 SE.
Then, it started running very slowly.
He got rid of my IR and Parallel port, to free up some IRQ's, installed my Xircom Ethernet card and got the CD working again. I'm not sure which CD controller it should need but this one has the EIDE controller configured now.

What I want to do is to create an image of the current OS partition with the Ghost 2003 DOS utility loaded onto a CD instead of a floppy.

I have borrowed an old Tecra 8000 from my gal friend. It has Win2k Pro installed.
After d/l'ing a pdf of the manual, It seems that it originally came with Win98 installed.
The manual says to use the "Companion Diskette" to enter DOS.
The only diskette d/l I can find is for Win 98/Win98se.

So, my questions:
1. Will the Win98 diskette work with Win2k?
2. Preferably, how can I open a CD with DOS before the OS starts up?
I can get into startup. But, that doesn't seem to allow me to access the CD Rom drive.

Hopefully it is an easy process that I'm just too blind to see.
Thx

A:Tecra 8000 with Win2k - How to start up in DOS?

I don't know that ghost tool exactly, but first of all that disk should work with Win2k too. To access that CD, DOS cd-driver must be on that disk and normally they are, if it is an official ghost tool disk.
Try this and if this won't help, you may make your CD bootable. Check google how to do so. There are several instructions for this procedure.

Hi all,

I have recently been asked to look at a friends' Tecra 8000 (PII 233) and to give it a bit of an update.....Not sure why as the most I have ever done is to add a few small components to my home PC!!

My question is is it possible for a broadband connection to be established - I have looked all over the notebook, but cannot find anything that would suggest that it can be done.
Also what other upgrades should (can) we look at.

Sorry for the noobness, but any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Wow? this is really an oldie?
By broadband do you mean the LAN port?

As far as I know the Tecra 8000 was not equipped with LAN port.
It?s really unbelievable but this is a fact?

However, if you would like to use LAN then I recommend buying a PCMCIA LAN card (Cardbus 32-Bit) which would allows you to connect the Tecra 8000 to LAN.

Hi im new to these forums came here looking for help.

Was a scam and never came in the mail.

I have been told a program "keydisk.exe" or somthing can bypass the bios password, but we have a problem, my laptop does not have a floppy drive.

So heres where you get to help me , im thinking about purchasing an external floppy drive (usb connected) to try to use that "keydisk.exe".

Will i need to install drivers for the floppy drive? Im running winxp sp2.

Hi

Wow, the Tecra 8000 series is really old. Are you still using this notebook?
It feels like the notebook would come from the Stone Age ;)

However, I think the CD/DVD drive supports *IDE* interface but not all drives would be compatible because of the slave/master/cable select settings

It looks like DVD-ROM drive +Toshiba - SD-C2002+ would be compatible.
Not quite sure if you will be able to get such drive because of the device age but probably the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country could provide some compatible optical disk drives?

A:Tecra S11 - After HDD replacement I can't update BIOS

> Error: Preparing to update was failed.

Do you have Admin rights?
Sounds like the issue could be related to missing privileges which are needed to run a update.

You could enable the admin account following these steps:
Choose command prompt (the black box cmd)
In the box type net user administrator /active:yes
Then log out. Usually an additional user account should be visible ?Administrator?.

Now log in using this account and try to execute the BIOS update.

Note: in many cases the VAP (value added package) is needed to run the update BIOS.
Be sure also, that package has been unzipped correctly before running the exe file.

The BIOS update requires some additional Toshiba tools like VAP (value added package for Win 7)

The current version is 1.4, and I want to update it to 3.0, so i have downloaded from Toshiba web site the correct file named "P006Cv300.exe" released from 11/04/2009. This is a BIOS update ONLINE into a real session of Windows 7. Simply, right click the compress exe, click run as admin and that's all but ......... for me it said :
*"[Error] The starting of service was aborted. User does not have administrator privileges"*

see below :
http://perso.orange.fr/100mo/bioserror.jpg

I've tried it with :
- closed AV, Firewall, etc ...
- disable UAC
- Run as administrator
- Tried with an another admin account
- Safe mode (bios update does not support safe mode)
- direct local administrator session

No change. Still the message "User does not have administrator privileges".
Need help please, found nothing on Google (similar Bios problem but not solved !!!!!)

Thank you

Did you install Win7 yourself?

I believe you need to install the Toshiba Value Added Package, so the BIOS file can read the system details properly.

ps. Did you install 32bit or 64bit?

Hey , guys. I recently did a BIOS update on a Toshiba Tecra 8100 Laptop running Windows 2000. After the update, while the system appeared to be working normally (LEDs on, a little HD acivity but no windows boot), the screen won't show up. I tried connecting the laptop to an external monitor, but nothing happened. Is there anything I can do?

(Update) I am able to get to the bios upgrade screen by holding down F12 before pressing the power button. Is there any other way to upgrade the BIOS besides using a floppy drive?

I updated the BIOS through Windows and my Tecra A6-EZ6311 asked to reboot, but not restarted, the LEDs light up but the screen stays black.

I downloaded the BIOS and recorded a bootable cd and started the notebook holding FUN + N keys, it speeds up the coller lights and other lights on the keyboard but nothing happens and I've done the same with pendrive but not flashing lights pendrive. I wonder if I still have a chance to save my notebook and how to proceed.

The USB ports do not flash the stick, as upload the bios in pendrive? Computer turns on but the screen stays black, if you press the keys Fun + B connects the notebook with accelerated fan and other luzez acessas on the keyboard, as if waiting for the upload the bios. But where do I upload this is not flashing lights in pendrive and writing ISO Bios in the CD drive spins the cd a few times and then nothing happens and I left for half an hour and not resolved.

Thank you very much.

Hi

I found your notebook on the Toshiba US support page:
http://support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome?freeText=1364534
There I could find also the compatible BIOS version.

I downloaded the BIOS package (it was exe file). But I could unzipped this package by clicking right and choosing ?unzip here?.
Within the BIOS folder I found readme.txt file. There you can find the instruction how the BIOS update work.
Also there was a notice that BIOS KeyInstallation Method, can sometimes be used to recover from the failure. If it does not, you'll need to contact Toshiba Authorized Service Provider (ASP) in order to fix it :(

BIOS does not recognize the FDD. Have tried 4 different drives and different cables, no go. Could the mainboard be the culprit?

Any words of wisdom?

Appreciate your help.

Hello,

My laptop is a Tecra R10-10J PartNumber PTRB1E-00D002FR, BIOS version 1.40 13/11/2008.

I recently purchased and installed two 4GB RAM modules (8GB). Entering BIOS setup, I see 8GB detected. Windows 7 64bit also detects 8GB but only uses 3,80! MemTest and CPU-Z diagnosis are good for entire 8GB. I switched RAM modules from one slot to the other but nothing changed. If I replace one 4GB memory module by a 2GB, Windows 7 uses 5,80 which is well. Same result whichever 4GB memory module or slot I use.

I assume that issue comes from BIOS. Version 1.40 does not support Memory Mapped I/O feature.

So I followed instructions on "http://fr.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/?download_drivers_bios.jsp?" to find last good BIOS update package for Tecra R10-10J. I downloaded and executed BIOS310?.exe but received error message "This computer is not supported"?.

Is anyone can tell me how to update my BIOS or is anyone has a better idea to enable full support of 8GB RAM?

Thank's to all !

Hi

You should install the VAP (value added package) or if this package is already installed, you should reinstall/update this.

Disable Antivirus software and disable security things like firewall etc?

Hope you have luck...

Hi,

I am having difficulty updating BIOS for a Toshiba Tecra A9 -11i laptop, (using latest update from the official toshiba european site); after running the bios launcher (version 3.2.8)
I get the following message ' this computer is not supported"? The current installed bios version is 1.5 , date 7/5/2007

also if i may add a couple of further issues:
the function buttons tdon't appear to be working;,,
the led light for the 'FN' key lights up when key is pressed so assume FN key works, but there's no response when pressing the ''FN' key and one of the f number keys - i installed the command module software as have been advised but this hasn't solved it.

I also having difficulty getting AHCi' mode to work in Windows XP Pro SP3; I have intel chipset 965m +ICH8M, the Intel ICH8M serial ata storage controller-2828 shows in device manager- the matrix storage manager won't run so i copied the file iastor.sys from the matrix manager folder into C:/Windows/Driver/system32 and edited the registry as read elsewhere on the forum but have had no joy.

any advice would be greatly appreciated, many thanks.

This error message appears if you want to update a BIOS which is not compatible with your notebook model.
Toshiba European driver page provides the 2.10Win BIOS for this notebook model.
So you used definitely wrong BIOS.

> there's no response when pressing the ''FN' key and one of the f number keys
Common modules controls the FN buttons.
So the issue should be solved installing Common Modules v 6.06.00, Utilities 4.30.15
Note; You have to press FN + 1, 2, 3 etc? DON?T press FN + F1 etc?.

Firstly be sure that AHCI is enabled in BIOS!!!
Furthermore the Intel Storage Manager controls the AHCI so you should slipstream the AHCI driver to the Win XP CD as described here:

My computer is a year old. It was completely fine until I noticed it had stopped charging the battery. After some googling I found there might be a BIOS update I had missed. When trying to install the BIOS update I get a message saying I have to plug in my computer first (which it always is as the batter doesn't have a charge).

The BIOS update program says it wants to upgrade as follows:

BIOS Version : Current Ver.2.60 --> Updated Ver.3.20
EC Version : Current Ver.1.80 --> Updated Ver.1.90

OS: Windows 7
BIOS file I downloaded: bios-20110714132558

Is this a known issue with a fix available?

A:Tecra S11-119 won't recharge battery - BIOS update issue too!

Hi

Are you sure that you have downloaded and used the right BIOS version!?
I read about the similar error message and finally the user used not compatible BIOS.

Furthermore the VAP (value added package) should be installed in order to update the BIOS!!! In you case I would recommend reinstalling this tool too.

But I?m not quite sure if BIOS update will help you to fix the battery issue?
Maybe you need to replace the battery?

1. I have a 500 MHz processor on my 8100. I'd like to upgrade it to max capacity. My guess it's 800MHz since that's the highest the series went to.
But if it is 800 MHz, will any PIII Mobile on this frequency do? Or should I check for special parameters of the processor?

2. I don't have a floppy drive, neither means to get one. And I'm not going to ebay one just for a BIOS update. Any ideas? Will a bootable CD with the files do the trick?

3. What's the slot of the DVD-ROM and what replacement models can I use? The 8200 went as far as an 8x DVD-RW. Could I go further?

Thanks. Hopefully my post is OK like this instead of three different posts.

A:Tecra 8100 - max processor, DVD-ROM and BIOS update questions

1. Have a look at the other Tecra 8100 models to determine what CPU's are compatible.

2. I dont think a bootable CD would work, you need to follow a special procedure to update the BIOS, and it requires a floppy drive. If there is a Windows version, you should use that instead.

3. Upgrading the DVD drive can be difficult since you need to use the correct Master/Slave settings and it needs to have the same faceplate design of the original one.

Personally, I would sell the laptop and buy a faster second hand one. It may work out to be cheaper.
