Preferred Solution: When I try to activate I get error code 0x80072EE2. This is the second time I have installed Windows 10. The first time I kept getting the same errors with activation and Windows update. Im running 64 bit

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

 Hi,
Something is going on with Windows update and new/restored 7 machines. Been going on pretty much all year so far and has been noticed by a great many other technicians besides me.  Windows 7 has seamed to taken the hit hard. With machines I have built
and restored for customers over these past few years. I know how long the update process approximately took with in an hour or 2. but the same machines are now running into days. Something is not right and needs to be investigated by Microsoft to locate the
problem unless it is being done intentionally for some reason. ??? Windows 8 and 10 machines don't seam to have as much problem 8 more than 10 but 7 never used too.

This involves too many different manufactures machines and clean installs of 7 SP1 for this to be a OS install problem. Not when doing the same machine with in less than 2 years and I could turn the machine over and have it ready to return to work in
a day. Not with the current problem with the update system for 7 OS anyway. I have read where this problem has been very frustrating for other techs.

I have tried a number of the so called KB fixes for this and they pretty much do not correct the problem, I believe it is with the update system and older OS's.

If is an effort to force 10 on folks is not good, if they don't like it and just don't want it, or have other issues with it. They ask for 7 OS machines. You have something people really like!!! So keep selling it and supporti... Read more

Just built a new gaming pc myself, all new parts, first build so maybe there's something I'm not doing right. But I was following this guide for windows 8.1 installation However I decided not to do any of those tweaks under "System Setup after Installation" I just skipped to installing drivers so it's a pretty normal installation. That's just extra information, probably not relevant.

Installed windows 8.1 OEM.

Installed my drivers and I connected to internet but when I try to check for windows updates I get this error

Code: 80072EE2

Looked online for a solution, found one on windows website. I then downloaded WindowsUpdateDiagnostic from another PC and ran it on the PC i'm having issues with, it fixed something but I still can't update.

I have recently downgraded from Vista to XP on my Dell inspiron laptop. It installed fine but now i have having trouble activating. I got XP from my friend's work (he is in tech support so has large quantaties of XP disks) but the CD key on the box did not work.
I then tried phone activation and gave the customer service person the installation ID (the one thats different than CD key). They said it did not work and to contact my manufacterer, the only problem is this computer came with Vista and I don't think I get Dell support for installing XP. I only have 13 days left does anyone have any ideas?

If microsoft will not activate it means you do not have a legal copy. You will need to purchase a legal copy in order to get activated.

This is the second posting for this issue. I can't download and update my Windows updates. Each time I try I get the error code: 80072F78, which after I Googled the code apparently means that my computer's time and date are wrong. I checked and the time and zone are correct. However, whenever I try to sync the time with the Internet, e.g., "time.Windows.com" or any of the other available options, I get a message "An error occurred when Windows was synchronizing with .... The peer is unresolved." Is this problem not allowing me to update Windows? I also Googled this and discovered that "time.Windows.com" has been broken before. Any ideas on this? Thanks in advance.

Last successful update was on 15/07/2012, since then I didn?t turn on my netbook. 3 days ago I turned it on and had 11 important updates waiting to be installed. All failed over and over again. Been trying to solve this issue for 3 days and have done the following to no avail. Search box typed run and then entered msiexec /unregister , then msiexec /regserver
1. In Services, Windows Installer, already set to manual, clicked on start and received following pop up error, Windows could not start the Windows Installer Service on Local Computer. Error 5: Access Denied.
2. Changed Permissions so that users and administrators have full control on all HKEYs.
3. CMD: sfc /scannow ? Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
4. Saved on desktop Windows 7 msiserver.reg and double clicked on it.
5. Downloaded registry repair software.
6. In the HKEY_lOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/services/msiserver, deleted enum.
7. And others I can?t remember.

I cannot do a fresh install of Windows 7 as I do not have the cd. It?s just me and the netbook, and no cds. Any help will be most certainly appreciated. I?m tired but don?t want to give up.

You've made some large mistakes, I'm afraid.
Is your Recvoery parttion still intact? - Check your manual for the Recovery procedures, and back up your data to external media as a precaution.

Then attempt a System Restore to before you attemtped to repair the system.

Then post an MGADiag report - I have a suspicion I know what the problem is, and that should onfirm it (or tell me I'm well off base!)

Good Afternoon One & All

Can anybody help or advise me please on a few issues that I am having.

I have a Toshiba Satellite S50-D, which I bought from Laptop Outlet Ltd through Amazon in Setember 2014.
Was really happy with it until recently.

I activated Windows 8.1 when I first received it but just lately I am getting messages saying that I need to activate Windows.

This I have tried to do several times & each time that I do the screen shows that " Windows cannot activate at this time please try later " I dont get get a telephone option to phone, and so am confused as to why I am being asked to re-activate.

I tried to contact the vendor who told me to contact Microsoft, this I did & was told that the product key that came with my laptop is for Windows7 or Windows 8 not 8.1, he told me to get in touch with Toshiba for a new Product code, this I did & after an hour on the phone where the Toshiba engineer remotely went through my laptop informed me that I have a trojan (which Norton nor Eset Nod 32 discovered BTW) & that he could sell me an AV software for ?99, at no point did he try to give me any advise on why the product ID would not work nor did he try to give me another code to try.

Is anybody else out there finding that they are being asked to re-activate Windows 8.1 which comes pre-installed on their laptops or anyone who knows how to fix this issue?

A:Satellite S50D-A-10G - Windows cannot activate at this time

When you get new machine you will get it with preinstalled recovery image. Recovery image is software package that includes Windows OS, all necessary drivers, Toshiba specific tools and utilities and some additional software.

This recovery image must not be activated manually. All you must do is to connect it to the internet and it should be activated automatically. You can create bootable recovery media and use it for recovery image installation, if necessary.

You can install it hundred times and every time OS will be activated automatically.
Unfortunately I cannot explain what the problem is but if you got your machine with preinstalled OS connect it to the internet and activation should be successful.

By the way: can you please post full notebook model number?

If I take my machine offline for a day or so, I get a little message in the bottom-right corner of the screen telling me that my copy of Windows seven is no longer activated.

To resolve that I have to go back online and then into the control panel, opening the system area and suddenly Windows remembers that it's official+activated.

Why can't my Windows seven work just like my old Windows XP did and actually REMEMBER that it is activated?

A:Offline time equals Windows activation woes

Interesting. What kind of license do you have- retail or oem or system builder? Offhand I can just think of the permissions problem that sometimes causes random deactivation, but I dont know what being offline has to do with it. In any case follow the steps on this MS page.

Windows 7 displays "Windows is not Genuine" with an error code of 0x80070005

Another thing you can do is to download the MGADIAG tool from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Run it once when you are activated and once when you're not. Each time, click on the Copy button at the bottom of the tool, paste into Notepad and save as .txt file. So you'll end up with 2 files, name them sensibly and upload here. I'll take a look at them.

Ever since I updated my computer from windows 8 to 8.1 (a long time ago), everyday at around 7:50-8:00pm, I get a prompt from my computer to activate windows - I follow the steps and nothing works. I never put much thought into it because I could simply exit out of it an continue whatever I was doing.

Problem is, after exiting the prompt, my computer freezes completely, doesn't matter what I was doing, how long it has been on for, what I had open, everything just stops. I;m usually browsing the web on Chrome and it just freezes, videos stop, tabs crash, etc.

It's pretty frustrating as it takes a good 10-15 minutes for everything to get back up again. It happens everyday, without fail, at around 8pm. Any ideas how I could fix this?

Thanks

A:Windows 8.1 - Activation prompt then freeze same time everyday?

Did this computer originally come pre-installed with Windows 8? If that is the case the key is embedded in firmware and there should not be a problem with activation as 8.1 uses the 8 key.

Download Firmware Tables View. Run the program and look under the MSDM table. Is your windows 8 key shown. Is it the same when running the below keyfinder?

https://github.com/Superfly-Inc/ShowKeyPlus/releases

If the keys are the same you can reinstall Windows 8.1 using the Media Creation Tool. It will let you create a DVD or USB flash drive. Also an iso which can be used with Rufus which is the preferable method. Select GPT partition scheme in the dropdown box. Leave all boxes as checked. Press Start.

Doing a clean install after backing up all your data and any licenses for purchases software like Office would give you a clean slate without the baggage of Windows 8. You may need to download drivers from your computer's support site before hand. One would be your wifi driver and possibly Ethernet also.

Sometimes I will get it as soon as the pc turns on and other times it will boot seemingly normally and I will use it for short period of time before getting the BSOD with a different error message. The pc is unusable in its current state and I am loosing it trying to figure out what to do.
PS: The first time I installed windows 10 i used a boot usb that my friend made me and when I gave it back I made my own from microsofts website to see if the boot device was the problem but even when i reinstalled windows the same problem happened. I have also tried using different hard drives (both regular not ssd) which did not solve anything.

First, check that teh file system and disk are OK
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key
You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot. The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on the Start button
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, type

SFC /SCANNOW

and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

You will have seen that the SFC command leaves a log - please upload the CBS.log and attach it to your response (You will probably have to copy it to the dektop first)

I built my computer a few years ago and bought vista right before 7 was coming out so I got a free upgrade disc. I never bothered upgrading until I had to do a clean system install a couple months ago because my computer locked up.

A couple days after I installed vista and upgraded to 7, and before I activated my copy of windows 7, my PSU died. I finally got a new PSU and now when I try to activate my windows 7 I get this error.

Does the 30 days to activate actually mean anything? I ask because I didn't get to activate in the 30 day period since my PSU crapped out on me. Also, I had to use magic bean key finder to get the key because I cannot find my original upgrade case as it got lost in one of several moves apparently.

It says my copy is not genuine but it is. This is what makes me mad about microsoft. Things that should go smoothly never do.
What can I do to get this legit copy activated? I will be very displeased if I have to end up buying something even though this is legit.

Thanks for your help.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

I just completely reformatted my computer after a suspected malware attack.
The first thing I tried after reformatting and doing a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit edition was to run windows update. I received the error code 80072EFD. This is before I installed any software, firewalls, or antivirus programs. I also get this same error when trying to activate windows or office, or when trying to set up Microsoft media center.

I do have internet connection. Both firefox and internet explorer work perfectly fine.

I have been in contact with microsoft, but nothing has worked so far. I thought I would see if anyone here had any ideas.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I have already done. Please read through these before posting as you can see I have already tried a lot of things!
1. Waiting 15 minutes and trying again
2. Restarting the computer
3. Adding windows update websites to the internet explorer exceptions list: http://*.update.microsoft.com https://*.update.microsoft.com http://download.windowsupdate.com Microsoft Support http://update.microsoft.com https://update.microsoft.com
4. Verifying internet connectivity (internet works fine)
5. Tried it with Windows firewall on and off. No other firewalls are installed.
6. I tried this before any anti-virus was installed. I have since installed AVG free and tried again both with it running and disabled
7. No software accelerator programs are installed
8. windows update is not using a proxy ser... Read more

Back in November, Windows Update inexplicably stopped working. After several weeks of diagnosis (including a reformat/reinstall of Windows), it seems that IPv6 is the culprit - it seems that my ISP recently rolled out IPv6 secretly. Unchecking the IPv6 checkbox on the network adapter finally solved the problem.

Now the question is, why does the addition of IPv6 break Windows Update? I mean, IPv4 is still there...

I don't usually go into the Microsoft Store (Windows 8.1), so this may have been happening for awhile, but I attempted to last night and then again this morning. I generally get the following statement/error - "We weren't able to connect to the Store.
This might have happened because of a server problem or network connection timeout. Please wait a few minutes and try again. (0x80072ee2).

I can get to the actual store after the error message comes up if I hit the back arrow. What seems to be the bigger issue is the connection between the store and my account. Only once was I able to access My Account or check for updates to the apps on my
computer. That seems to be the biggest issue as I can get to the store and see apps in the store after the above error message by selecting the back arrow. But checking for app update that are on my computer and selecting My Account or My Apps within the store
doesn't work.

I've spent a couple hours looking online and trying fixes listed online for this error code and nothing seems to work (e.g. wsreset, proxy off - already was, troubleshooters, etc.). I haven't done DSIM RestoreHealth or SFC Scannow yet - but this really doesn't
seem to be an issue with my computer as everything else is working and I've updated monthly patches each time.

Would be nice to know if others have this issue and if they were able to fix it. Sure seems like something on Microsoft's end, but the error statement makes it confusing and makes it se... Read more

Googling has told me that a new program in my running program list (UAService7.exe) has been installed by a game I have recently installed (Lego Star Wars). This is apparently something to do with copy protection. It doesn't appear in the Programs startup folder, nor in the msconfig "startup" list, so I can't prevent it running. It apparently also stays behind after the game is uninstalled. I am really annoyed - I don't want or need this running on my computer (particularly as the game won't even work on my machine ) Does anybody know what this program is doing? How can preventing copying require a program to run on my computer all the time?

Ignore errors produced when clicking on theCopy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup filesfor some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to yourresponse.

Hello, everybody. I've had a rather rough time, lately, with my computer. For whatever reason, I could not update my computer via Windows Update. I constantly had errors. I could not figure out why nothing was downloading, and I found no solutions to the problem. Fast-Forward to about 5 days ago, and I encountered another, more annoying issue. I started to receive a pop-up notification letting me know that my version of Windows 7 (Home Premium, 64 Bit) was Not Genuine. I wondered... how could this be? I've had my computer for just over 2 years, with Windows 7 coming pre-installed. So I checked online on sites like this one, and I found a couple different solutions. One was to try to re-input the key. That did not work. Windows 7 was appearing as 'Activated', prior, but the issue of the "Non-Genuine" pop-up had risen.
From searching up the error code, I came across this suggestion:

HTML Code:
Recreate the Licensing Store
1) Click Start button.
2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
8) Type: net start sppsvc
9) Type: slui.exe

Hi.
I have installed Windows 7 from scratch, because of an error in the old installation, but this new installation is not running smooth either. I have the old MS-tool "Bootvis.exe", but it won't run in Windows 7 64bit, so I don't know how to monitor the boot sequence. I have the small program "Autoruns", and it shows me hundreds of things, but no timing is attached, so I can't find it this way. Well, here is the facts:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit installed on a Intel X-25M SSD
2 Samsung F1 1Tbyte HDDs
Core quard Q9550 @3,4 Ghz
4Gb ram Corsair PC6400
X-fi Fata1ty gamer extreme
Powerpoint HD5850 graphic
Gigabyte P35 DS4
Intel Gigabit CT netadapter (onboard net gives a low performance to/from my NAS)

When booting it stops for nearly 30 seconds after i shows the "new flag boot" window, I can hear it has little access to one (or both??) HDDs, and the HDD-LED is light up, but nothing happens. I have moved TEMP-files away from C:\ to a folder on one of the HDDs to avoid too much writing on my SSD, so maybe it is this it is doing on the HDD??

The old installation was on the exact same HW, and the Windows 7 64bit Ultimate DVD was the same. The old installation did not have this annoying delay. My first idea was that Kaspersky KIS2010 did this, but I have tried uninstalling it, and this does not change the delay.

Which tool can I use like the old "BootVis.exe" in Windows 7? Or is there another way to find this issue?

Everything in the PC... Read more
