I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm so confused. I have two computers hooked up through a router and I want to share a printer that is connected to one. They are running Windows XP. I have set up the computer to be "shared" and know it's done because the hand is shown under the printer. However, when I try to find it on the other computer through the network, can't locate it.

Do I not have the network set up properly or I'm not finding the printer in the right place.?

Please help

Having troubles setting this up.

Windows 7 computer working fine - printer working fine (it's a canon ip5200). On Windows XP machine (SP3), I am trying to access the printer. I've tried this a couple of ways and it fails every time.

1) Drill down to printer via the Add Printer searchj for a network printer action. This eventually will ask me to point to an INF file that I don't have (unpacking Canon's printer driver installer to get to the 'ip5200.inf' file will eventually get me a 'Invalid printer file' error even though I can see that the inf file looks like an inf file.

2) Try to add it as a local printer, pointing to the network path (\\network\printer). That installs OK, but it doesn't work.

3) Try to install a network printer giving it a network path. See #1.

What in the heck am I doing wrong? I cannot get Windows7 to add the Windows XP drivers to it's list so I can install it via the network.

I shared a Canon Pixma MP170 printer on a Windows 7 Home Premium machine. I can see the shared printer name over the network from the XP machine within Add Printer Wizard screen. When I try to add the shared Canon printer on a Windows XP SP3 computer it says it will connect to the printer to download drivers but than it says no drivers are available.
Then it opens up a screen that asks me to provide an unnamed INF file. I put the install CD for the Pixma in the CD tray and pointed it to all Canon INF files located on the CD (one at a time) but it will not go any further. I also found same type of Canon printer INF files within the Program Files/Canon printer folder, but it would not use those either to complete printer add.

Am I missing some procedure that is needed to add a shared printer on a Windows XP computer from a different operating system such as Windows 7 Home Premium?

The Canon MP170 works both when plugged into XP machine and Win7 machine through USB port

Thanks for any help that someone can provide

Well here is my issue I have a XP computer that is hooked up with the Printer but I have it set it for to be shared already. When I go to "ADD PRINTER" and i hit the button saying "ADD NETWORK, WIRELESS, BLUETOOTH PRINTER" it searches and searches but it nevers finds it but when I had vista I had no issues finding it. We are on the same network and workgroup. I am connected by wireless and the XP computer is connect via wired. What can be causing this because I am completely stumped about this because I am trying to figure out how to print stuff though a network printer. Another thing is I can not find any other computer on the network tab. Someone please help me out.

A:sharing printer from a XP computer

First of all please check and make sure that in the properties of both of your network cards on both PCs have a check in Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. Then determine the IP address of the XP machine and attempt to ping that IP address from the Win7 machine. If that is successful then determine the name of the XP machine and attempt to ping that name from the Win7 machine. Let us know the results

Even as the Domain Admin, when I try to access any of the shares from any other computer I get a message saying " \\(machine name) not available, Logon faliure. The user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer."

There is a shared printer on my wife's Windows 7 computer (HP7250). When both computers were XP, I had no trouble accessing them with all my accounts on my computer. 3 years ago I upgraded both computers to Windows 7. Same thing, no problem accessing the shared printer on all my accounts. Now I got a new Windows 8 computer and the only account that can access the shared printer is my admin account. Nothing has changed on the W7 box but I cannot access the printer with my W8 standard account, or my new "Microsoft" admin account. Only with my "local" admin account. I don't even see the printer in Control Panel/Printers and Devices, only in the local admin account. If I do a "net view \\HP7250\MP150" I can see the printer share on all my accounts. Therefore I can print on the shared printer only on my local admin account. Is this by design of W8 or am I missing something.

Here is the problem
The lady in my home town library asked if I could help her.
They have DSL Coming in first to a modem, then modem to router, then router to its a switch or a hub I didn't look real close.

They have a couple of small printers that they just put on with a couple of the windows xp computers and they work fine. then they have a large printer a HP Laserjet 4200/4300 series and that is hooked to the hub or switch which ever it is.

They have the share name as Black&White$.10
The windows xp computer they want to be able to print from the network printer won't. there is two computers side by side both windows xp.
If you go to printer and faxes in control panel on the 1st one it shows the hp 4300 printer as Black&White$.10 and prints from the network printer. The other xp computer only shows the small printer in printer and faxes in the control panel its like a HP810 OR something like that. It shows no Black&White$.10

If you click add printer and go through like you want to share that printer any way I try it it says it is not on the network.
My question is, do I have to run the network printer disk like you would if you were adding a new printer then go through the share thing or what am I doing wrong?

I have a Linksys router running NAT and DHCP. I have a desktop machine hardwired up to it. I have 2 laptops that use 802.11b. Up until very recently, I could print from the laptops to the printer attached to the desktop with no problems. However, that does not work anymore, and I cannot figure out why. I haven't changed anything that I know of.

The laptops can ping each other and browse each other, and the desktop can ping and browse the laptops, but the laptops cannot ping or browse the desktop anymore. I figured it was Windows Firewall that was the culprit, but I have it turned off on all 3 machines.

All 3 machines are using DHCP. This is a very basic setup, and like I said, had been working fine until recently.

Hello guys,

I have 4 PC's at my home, they can all access each other pretty well, except the main computer, COMPUTER-1 which can easily access other computers, but when I try to access it on the network, I get:

"windows cannot access \\COMPUTER-1
error code 0x80070035"

I then click to Diagnose or just wait for about 2 minutes, and eventually I CAN access \\COMPUTER-1 over the network. I have also noticed that in my Advanced Sharing options for a private network, "Turn On Network Discovery" will not save. I have searched and read many posts about this issue and tried things like doing scans, Auto starting services, rebooting, disabling the windows firewall completely, but it makes no difference.

It seems like a bit of a clue that the network DOES appear after a couple of minutes. Any help much appreciated!

Hi Everyone:

I have run up against a problem and am out of ideas to fix it. I just moved and signed up for Comcast internet. When I plugged their router into my desktop computer everything went find and the Comcast router assigned the label of "Network 2" to my network.

I have a laptop that I used wirelessly through out my house and it too is working fine but my wireless router uses the name of "David49" for its name.

I am trying to get the printer that I have attached via a USB cable to my desktop computer to work with my laptop and am hitting a wall. Every time I try to add the printer to my laptop the laptop can't find the printer to add it and when I try to add it manually I get messages saying that the "printer can't be found, check your printer name" and messages to that effect.

Both computers are running Windows 7 and I can't help but feel that the difference in the router names is causing the problem but I am not sure if this is the case and how to fix it. I am wondering if I renamed one of the networks if that would fix the problem but I don't know how to rename a network.

Anyone run across this? How did you fix it? Thanks all.

A:Solved: Need Help, Computer Can't See Printer

Your description of the hardware setup is a little fuzzy to me. Are you using a wireless router in addition to the Comcast modem/router? If so, exactly how is everything plugging together (include port names for the routers)? What are the brands and model numbers of the networking hardware involved?

A few days ago, our HP Deskjet 6122 suddenly stopped communicating with our computer and refused to print from any program. After re-booting and trying a few other quick fixes with no success, I assumed something must have been corrupted, uninstalled the printer (including all traces of HP software) and used the CD that came with it to try a clean reinstall. Unfortunately, now I can't reinstall the drivers because the computer isn't detecting the printer, which is both plugged in and turned ON at the time. Tried again with new drivers downloaded from HP, but this was also a no go. Have rebooted/plugged and unplugged the printer cable hook-up multiple times. Also did an uninstall/reinstall of LPT1. Unfortunately, I can't test the printer with a different computer since we only have one and I can't try a different printer cable unless we go buy a new one (which I'm hesitant to do except as a last resort). Am at a loss for how to proceed--about to tear my hair out. Can anyone *please* help??

And at the same time, an icon in 'Devices and Printers' called PC Camera popped up, instead of my printer's icon becoming solid. I dont know what the heck is happening. Also, everytime I plug the cord in a Windows Instal thing pops up and says some driver for a webcam is installed correctly (and my laptop already has a webcam?, which isn't the PC Camera).
Yes I have checked the cord actually came from the printer. I've set my default printer as HP Deskjet 2050.
I tried to print some documents and they are not being printed.
Please help!

I've been trying to connect my printer to my wireless router/modem. The install program is giving me the following error{ The PC and the printer are connected to different networks( and They must be connected to the same network. This can happen when you use the manufacturer's default network name (SSID) and another nearby network is using the same name.} I just had the computer built and have been setting it up. How do I know which is the right IP address?

I just installed an AIO dell printer 966 my problem is when my computer boots up I get a black screen with a blinking cursor. The only way to get the computer to boot is to unplug the usb cord. Is there a way around this?? I am using xp sp2. Thanks for any help!

A:Solved: Printer won't let computer boot up

Just a hunch, but see if "removable devices" is listed before "hard disks" in your PC's BIOS under boot order. If so, change it to where your hard disk boots first because it might be trying to boot to the card reader in the printer. Yes, I have seen that happen before. I might be wrong but it is worth checking out.

I have an HP Pavillion 724c desktop running XP home hardwired to a netgear wirelss access point/router. It is connected to a broadband cable modem. Connected to this computer is an HP psc 2100 xi all in one printer. I have an HP Pavillion zv5000 notebook computer wirelessly connected to the netgear WAP. I have run the network set up wizard on both computers, naming each computer uniquely, with a common network name, allowing for file sharing. Both computers will connect to the internet. When I look at My Network Places (or neighborhood) Neither computer sees the other. When I run Add A Network Place, I see
Entire Network
+Microsoft Terminal Services
-Microsoft Windows Network

It will not let me select XYZWG on either computer to add to the network places. The printer is identified as office printer on the desktop, with sharing allowed. When I try to add a printer to the notebook, it will not find the printer. The wizard just comes up with Microsoft Windows Network and will not find the printer. What have I done wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you created the same username on both computers? quoted from http://www.chicagotech.net/accesserrors.htm

" computername is not accessible. No permission to access the resources"

If both win2000/XP and win9x can see the workgroup but only win2000/XP can access a win 2000/XP computer, and win9x gets the above error, check the group name. If they are the same name,

Check these:
1) are you sure the logon user has permission to the shared folder?
2) have you tried to logon using the same user name and password of the accessed win2k/XP computer?
3) the last and risky one, if you enable guest account in the accessed win2000/XP computer, can you access now?

I run Windows XP and have a Brother MFC-8460N printer. 3 times within the past 2 days the printer has shut off the computer. The document prints and the computer does not try to restart. This does not happen every time I try to print. I have unplugged the printer from the UPS and into a different wall plug. I cleaned the vents in the front of the computer and vacuumed the fan area. There is a temperate indicator on the front of the computer and it reads 23 degrees celcius which is normal. My Norton AntiVirus is up to date.

Do you have any ideas?
