Vista Scanning Issue

Q: Vista Scanning Issue

I use a Lexmark X6170 for scanning. If I use tif as the setting for the fileformat there is always ONLY 1 page scanned instead of multiple pages that are ready to be scanned via the document feeder.
Any suggestion how to resolve this?

Preferred Solution: Vista Scanning Issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Vista Scanning Issue

Maybe you can scan it as another format, then find a program online to convert it to a tif file?

The issue is simply everytime I've used Etrust virus scan when in Internet explorer (have to be) I minimize it, and when I bring it to normal it's fine, but minimize it and bring it up when it's in the Java folder it freezes, should I do an individual scan on the Java folder to see if it has viruses or just make it a special do not scan folder and un-click it when scanning?

A:Solved: Etrust Viruscan does not like Java Program folder: not virus issue but scanning issue

Hi, Often the applets stored from Java usage will trigger either a detection or an issue as you are seeing from antivirus scanners.

I'd suggest clearing the Java cache: see the attached screenshot, your version may be slightly different but you should be able to see where to look, and what to do. (The attached pic is from a slightly older version of the Java...the steps below are up to date, though)

Control Panel> (Switch to Classic View)> open Java

Find the Settings tab/button, and open that...then find the Delete Files button and click that.
It's just deleting the temporary files left from Java applet usage.

Then, after clearing the cache, run your scan again and see if it works correctly.

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you.

I am running Windows 10 an using MS Office 2010 to scan and store my photos of cards to sell on eBay. Lately my screen freezes up when I try to "save as". I see a little message stating "MS Office 2010 not responding" as if I didn't know it. LOL Can you suggest any help for me?

If you are scanning with a scanner then it would be better to scan to PDF then to Office 2010. Office 2010 as you know is getting on a bit so might not be very compatible with Windows 10.

I'm having a problem with wireless scanning, which I think may be a wireless networking issue.

For about 18 months, I've been using Quicken with two HP Photosmart all-in-ones - a 6180 and a 7280 - in Windows 7. (Quicken allows you to scan documents and attach them to individual transactions.) I recently had to replace the older of the two, the 6180. I tried four devices - an Epson, a Canon and and two HP's - and found that none of them worked with Quicken wirelessly. With other software - PaperPort, MS Office Scanning - I had mixed results.

As they all had their problems, I decided to keep the device I liked best, the Canon Pixma MX882. One of the reasons is that it has a duplexing ADF; also, I found their tech support to be slightly more responsive than Epson's, and HUGELY more so than HP's (which should come as no surprise). In fact, one of Canon's senior tech people spent an hour and a half with me, but he couldn't get it to work.

Here's where I am now - I can only use Quicken with the device through a wired connection, and then only with the WIA driver. I can use the Canon driver (which allows me to use the duplexer) with PaperPort and MS Office, but, again, only wired.

The Canon tech felt it was most likely a Windows 7 security or permissions issue, but couldn't suggest how to get around it. The odd thing is that the older HP's have worked fine (the 7280 continues to do so). I remember when wireless scanning first... Read more

I hope this is the place to post this question. The digital photography/imaging was a possibility but was not sure.

I am running Windows XP - Home. I received an HP Scanner/Printer for Christmas and yesterday I scanned in some medical reports for my mother. I then e-mailed them to her for her records.

The problem comes in when I view them on my computer the resolution is horrible. It looks very blurry. When I printed a copy out from her computer - it came out of the printer real fuzzy and not crystal clear like the original report from the doctor.

How do I rectify this problem?

I have created a very simple DLL in C# that scans (TWAIN) and saves the image to a temp file form which I read into a Picturebox.

Hi All,

I have a question about a recent Nmap scan I tried doing. The network I am trying to scan is .. (25 bit mask?)
I invoke a nmap using using nmap -sL It goes through hosts 128-255 but doesn't detect any as being 'up' or reverse their hostname. I do this all time with other subnets. Does anyone know if I am scanning the network wrong? I can ping a random host on this subnet just fine.. Any ideas??

I've used Avast! for at least 2 years. Beginning 2 weeks ago, I started getting the message "Some files could not be scanned" at the end of a scan. Looking at the log revealed that all the unscanned files are in the system restore folder (C:\System VolumeInformation\_restore\. . .). The error message on each file is "Error: Archive is password protected (42056)". It repeats for EVERY file in the folder, including .png, .js and .gif files as well as the actual RP files.

I tried turning system restore off, which zaps all the restore points, rebooting, then creating a new, single restore point and running a Quick Scan. Did not solve the problem; every file in the folder is still "off limits" to Avast! EXCEPT when I do a boot-time scan (which runs before Windows loads).

Posted the problem on Avast's forum, but got no explanation. I realize it does not mean anything is infected, and it's not critical that Avast be able to scan the RPs, but the fact that it started doing this on 11/14 and now does it for every scan signals that something in the OS or in Avast has changed. Or might this have something to do with the fact that I have SpywareBlaster, a program that "immunizes" some registry items so spyware can't alter them (most HOST files)? Could the last update for that program have contained a change where it now immunizes the RPs?

Anybody have a clue as to what has happened here?

Hi, folks.

Installed the Epson WF 4740 All-in-on printer last week, added to my home wireless network and it is working fine for printing from all three laptops on the network. Copying and scanning at the printer are working as well. Also scans successfully to a USB key inserted at the printer.

Problem: Menu has option to send scan to a PC on the network. Says Document Capture Pro software must be installed to do this, which it is. But when I try to do this, menu shows "Cannot find computer". The menu has another dropdown to select a job, once the computer has been selected, and on my PC I have a couple saved jobs (scanner settings), but the printer won't detect them. I suspect if it would find my computer on the network, I could select one of my saved jobs, and the scan would end up on my computer.

I can, however, trigger a scan using the Document Capture Pro software on the laptop, and it works fine, including the scan winding up on my PC. However, if my PC is in another room, I have to go to the printer to insert the original, then go back to the PC, start the scan, than go back to the printer to grab the original.

Called Epson tech support, went through the usual steps the "tech" was reading off a script. Finally put me on hold, talked to "senior tech", said I need to make sure port 2968 is open on my wireless router, as this port is used by the printer.

We have a Canon imageRunner 1025N multifunction printer/copier/scanner in our office. Up until today, it was directly connected to one of our office computers through a USB cable. Now it's been networked. One of the functions of this printer is that it could scan in documents to the computer. But now that it's networked, the scanner feature seems to no longer be an option. As far as I could tell with the manual, the scanner will not work if it's networked. My question is that if this is true, can a printer be connected to a networked AND connected to a computer through the USB cable at the same time (without any functionality issues) so that we can scan our documents again? Any help would be much appreciated, thank you. (And if there is no one with an answer, any help directing me to where I could find an answer would be appreciated as well since I cannot find how to get help through Canon's website.)

A:Canon imageRunner 1025N Scanning Issue

You may just need to reinstall the Canon software from the CD and configure the scanner as being Network connect rather then USB. Also the brochure suggests the unit support Scan to Email and Scan to FTP, you can configure that if its network connected, that's generally how most Xerox units are setup at the sites I visit. The Canon website seems to very lacking, you may have better manuals on the installation CD.

But there should be no reason it can't be connected both ways, however the scan to email or a network drive would be better.

Hi all. I just want to start by saying that I'm completely clueless about computers, so don't feel like you're patronizing me by speaking in layman's terms. Also, I apologize if this has already been dealt with in another thread but I did look and couldn't see anyone with the exact same problem as me.

I've been using Malawarebytes Anti-Malware for all of my spyware/virus scanning stuff for about 6 months and it has been brilliant, vaulting very threat I've encountered and my laptop has been running perfectly.

I started normally, but nothing worked. The cursor moved, but clicking desktop icons did nothing. I shut down (using CTRL, ALT + DEL) and tried again. In normal mode, I tried to run Malawarebites Anti-Malware, but the whole computer froze after 1 second of scanning and I couldn't get any programmes to work.

AVG free antivirus normally scans all in/out email messages and places a "virus free" msg text in the incoming ones after scanning them.

I have migrated to a brand new Compaq Presario SR5250NX with vista home premium and am running the latest versions of AVG free and Mozilla Thunderbird.

During email download via Thunderbird on my old win XP system, AVG placed a little progress pop up on the screen and placed the "virus free" text at the end of each incoming message.

On the new vista system, the little popup never shows nor do the "virus free" texts.

The AVG control panel states the "Email Scanner is fully functional" and the properties mentions a plugin/extension of AVG FREE ADDITION MS OUTLOOK EXTENSION being installed.

In the vista properties, Thunderbird is assigned all of the email duties.

It is as if Avg Free doesn't recognize the presence of Thunderbird on the machine.

Is anybody successfully getting Avg free to scan Thunderbird on Vista?

A:AVG AV not scanning email on Vista w/Thunderbird

I use AVG Internet Security rather than the free version, but IIRC you need to select an email 'profile' when you install AVG. (I'm sure you can add it later, too-and I'm not sure it's called a 'profile' but I remember that there were several choices, one being Outlook & another called 'Personal' or something like that. Wish I had AVG on this machine to check.)

For Thunderbird, you need to activate the 'Personal' email scanner profile in AVG. Also, make sure T-Bird is set to cooperate with AV programs. I forget where that setting is (don't have T-Bird on this PC either) but it tells T-Bird to store each message in a separate temp file so it can be scanned before adding it to the Inbox. Note that this doesn't affect the email scanner, it just prevents your entire Inbox from being quarantined if something should slip past the email scanner & later be recognized by the real-time scanner.

A:Scanning A Document To Vista For Editing

When you scan an image, the entire thing becomes an image. There is no text in the image.... there is a picture of text. As far as the computer is concerned, there is no text. If you want to change text in an image, you need decent graphics software and manually remove the colors, lines, and squiggles that represent text.

Hi JB. . .

Looks like you or someone else has quite a job ahead.

For a few of your items like viewing file ACLs, use AccessChk

SysInternals Suite (zip) --> http://download.sysinternals.com/Fil...rnalsSuite.zip

I think SysInternals can do much of what you want -- and it is free, courtesy of Microsoft TechNet. Whether a GUI or cmd/DOS line EXE, be sure to run ALL SysInternals apps at an elevated admin level (RIGHT-click, Run as Admin). Those that execute from a cmd/DOS prompt -

Vista insists on scanning folders with audio contents even though i have indexing turned off.
Every time i navigate to a folder with audio files in it that green search bar at the top starts going - clicking the X doesnt help and if i try to do anything thing with a file in the folder vista doesnt respond or it starts the scan all over again.
Basically i'm "not allowed" to do anything with a file until vista gets done scanning the folder.
- and of course setting the folder attributes to "document" style instead of "music" does no good because vista refuses to remember folder settings.

I'm having a re-occuring problem with my PC
I am a video editor, so I move, download, upload, sideload A LOT of stuff on my computer.
I thought the problem was my old HD which I recently got replaced with a new 1 terrabyte HD, well the exact same problem is back and I'm really confused as to how I might be able to resolve this issue without completely overhauling and replacing my hard drive every few months.

The problem is that my system constantly slows down and crashes on me from time to time, (crashes around once a month), and then chkdisk pops up every time I start my computer and begins to scan it, I think it goes through 3 processes or stages which I'm not really sure as to what they do, but in the second stage it always just stops between 40% and 60% and will not continue, so I have to shut my computer down and skip the chkdisk because it seems to be useless.

I couldn't find any sites or sources that gave me the slightest idea as to why chkdisk always stalls and never completes checking the disk.

So I cannot defragment my computer and it's just getting slower and slower at a noticeably fast rate.

I don't want my computer to end up in the state it was in last time where it took minutes just to open a single word document.

I've even heard that defragmenting my computer isn't the way to go or that it wouldn't fix anything?

A:Trying to defrag vista, says I have to run chkdisk which wont finish scanning my HD?

Hi, welcome to the forums sorry about the delay in replying. We don't know your system specs, adding a 1 tb hdd may not have been the best way to go, best to talk to your local computer shop about your requirements. Now it appears your drive is returning a "dirty" response hence chkdsk needs to be run. The three stage (read only) chkdsk is virtually useless so open a cmd prompt start, all programs, accessories, and right click on command prompt, select "run as administrator" at the prompt type:-

chkdsk /r press enter
You will receive a prompt about the volume being in use and would you like to run it next boot Y\N press Y and type exit then reboot.

Chkdsk will run, on a 1tb hdd can take up to 2 days (yes or longer) so be patient.

When complete download My Defrag (best free one by far);

Select the optimize monthly option and allow it to run. Let us know how you get on.

I'm using a couple registry cleaners and they both take a long time scanning! I'm talking hours and hours. I'm using Wise Registry Cleaner and I'm also using a demo version of TweakNow's RegCleaner Pro. Both are Vista x64 certified and both work, but I've yet to let them run through a complete cycle. They don't stall or stop, but when they get to the Wow6432Node registry keys, it takes FOREVER to scan. As I said before, it takes hours! I'm not exaggerating at all either. I've waited two hours before I stopped it and hit delete the safe keys, thinking maybe it would take a shorter time next time, but no luck so far.

I'm starting to wonder if my Vista x64 install is borked or something. The only trouble I'm having with Vista x64 is with some Creative drivers for my X-Fi....no biggie really...just Creative's problem, not Windows I don't think. The other one is IE7 and Windows Messenger Live! giving me a Werfault when I have two separate IE7 browser windows open, it causes Messenger to shut down, but that's it.

I don't see how something can be wrong with my system that would take it hours to go through. I don't have that many programs at all on windows! I just built this computer about 2 months ago and I am dual booting with Vista x64 and XP on two separate partitions of course. Why in the world is it taking so long to scan through this Wow6432Node key? I know it's some sort of reflector for 32-bit programs under Vista 64-bit, why so many keys?? A:Registry Cleaners Taking A Long Time Scanning Vista x64....

Hi Bowen,

First, Welcome to the Forum.

I used Wise registry cleaner for quite awhile now and noticed that this started on mine as well starting with the last updated version they did. I never had this problem with Wise before either. I had to uncheck the Software section option for the scan to complete. This was true even on a fresh install of Vista too. I sent a bug report to Wise on it the other day, but haven't heard anything from them yet. I would keep a eye out on their website for a new update, and perhaps they'll have it fixed then. I would suspect that TweakNow's RegCleaner has a similiar Software option that would need to be unchecked as well.

I would uncheck it and wait for a updated version.

Hope this helps,

Hi there. I have a new laptop and am in the process of copying some files to the hard drive I'd previously burnt to DVD. Everytime I put in any DVD, Vista scans the disc for up to 10 minutes, like it's trying to get an overview of EVERYTHING on the disc. In this time, I can't really access or move the files around because the DVD drive is already going mental. XP never used to dick around with a disc like this. Any way of turning off this frustrating feature?

When I first bought my CanoScan 8800F and set about scanning my old slides I was a bit enthusiastic and scanned at the default resolution. The resulting images, when printed, were poor quality. Should I scan at 4800 or 2400 then resize the images to 600 before doing any enhancing? TWAIN compliant Windows Vista 32-bit supported scanning application required...

Strange thing is that it was working earlier. Wonder if having a Lexmark scanner also on there had some effect, filling somehow this requirement.

Eitherway I need help here as I am lost without the smart panel scanner and esp my PhotoImpression4 programs essential to my work. Got them on disc and was able to use before (until just a few days ago).

Also wonder if Java updates cause problems, the only other update recently downloaded.

You do realise that Zone Alarm has IM and email scanning going on all the time and periodically scans files and internet pages that you are browsing. It doesn't always show up on the ZA icon either (when the magnifying glass comes over the ZA icon)

I just got 4gb of RAM (2X2048). Vista's Windows expierence score and system information identify my system as having 4gb of RAM; however, task manager is only recognizing 2813MB.

I'm running 32bit version of Vista. I know that the max that can be supported is 4gb and I also know that some of the memory is going to be allocated to video card and other hardware. This should bring my total physical memory somewhere around 3.2-3.5gb of RAM. I seem to missing some since task manager is only recognizing 2813MB. Where is the rest of the RAM?

My system specs:

Intel Q9300
780i EVGA motherboard
EVGA 8800 GTX video card
4GB Corsair PC8500
Vista Home Premium 32bit

My second part of this question. I would like to upgrade to the 64 bit version of Vista. Is there an easy upgrade available or am I going to have to purchase a 64 bit version and do a clean install and if I do that will I lose everything on my hard drive now?

Thanks for the help!

A:Ram issue/Vista 32 to 64

Well I was finally able to find some information and answered my second question. The 64-bit DVD is being mailed to me. For the time being, I still don't understand why task manager isn't recognizing the proper amount of RAM.

Ok so well I had Vista installed and I needed to temporarily install XP so i formatted the drive. Now my question is, will I need to take out 2GB for the Vista installation this time? I know that if you install Vista through windows then it will check for "Vista updates" before the installation -- is this one of the updates that it checks for?

Thanks for your help, I would prefer not to remove the ram because my motherboard is barely secured on the tray and it needs a lot of pressure to get in.

First off, the need to remove ram so that Vista is installed with 2GB or less is highly dependant on the quality of your hardware components, and who made them. Case in point, on my ASUS-A8N32-Sli-Deluxe motherboard, I have 4GB Hynix DDR400 memory installed, and Vista x64 installs without a problem in that configuration.

Second, you'll get a more stable Vista installation by performing a clean install, as opposed to an "Upgrade" of XP.

Third, you really should se what you can do about properly mounting your motherboard. The abolute last thing you want to have happen is the thing moving when you don't want it to, causing a disastrous short that could just take out more than the board itself.

So i'm in a little dilemma..

I was playing Red Alert 2 in my friend's room (i'm in college) on my dell XPS m1330 a couple days ago and my battery ran out halfway through a game..so i ran over to my room and grabbed my charger and plugged it back in and pressed the power button. the computer had gone to sleep because of the low battery but it was also frozen on that screen, so i had no choice but to press the power key.
then after tha tmy laptop mstarted screwing up, when i tried to start it back up, it'd load past the bios initiatializing screen, then i'd see a flash of a blue screen then it'd start all over again. when i let it load again, it loaded something called the windows startup recovery wizard, and it asked me to do a system restore so thats what I did. whern the computer loaded back up it was totally screwed..none of my programs would run and the network card said something like the dependency software was not loaded plus the resolution was set at its lowest and would return to that whenever i rebooted no matter what i set it to. so i decided to do a second system restore and that restored my computer to like 5 days before the incident. everything seemed to be working fine but the only thing i noticed was that it took a long time to start my computer up. it would load to the windows vista screen aftr i log in but the only 3 things that i see in the systray were the power options, the volume, and the network thing. it'd take like another 3 minutes or so before ev... I had a friend who has windows vista on his computer

he wanted a good protection because his kids uses the computer, so I put deepfreeze on it.
later on he changed his mind because his kids want to install what ever, and instead of deepfreeze he want an anti-virus, antyspywar on it

so I used acronics to delete that partition because i could not uninstall deepfreeze because of some win vista issue(it didn?t show it on add/remove programs, and doesn?t show a small icon for it on the task bar)

i created the partition again with acronics, then installed vista

now each time i restart vista the chkdsk runs , and shows orphan files issue
it does it every time i restart, also it deletes any added users or driver to windows

Is it a deepfreeze issue???, and if so, how can I completely eliminate the existence/effect of deepfreeze if it was removed by the way above(not uninstall)

Hi everybody! I'm just arrived on this forum cos i'm going mad at this issue... Hope to not post something already asked, but i think it wasn't...
What i'd like to do is to set up a LAN as showed by the picture, in order to share the internet connection and one printer:

The PCs are linked to the switch by direct patch cable, not crossover. The network adapters are configurated as below:
IP: 192.168.0.x (where x is from 1 to 3, one for each pc)
Subnet mask:
DNSs: the ones of my ISP
The only think that work is the connection to the internet from the main computer (the vista one...)

I don't thing the network isn't working for the different OSs, cos this happened even before to migrate the main computer to Vista...
Hope you can help me to solve my problem!...Bye!
PS: i'm italian, so i apologize for my english if i did some mistake...

A:Lan vista-xp issue...

Well, the obvious reason is that you only have one public IP address from your ISP.

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Make/model of the broadband modem.
Make/model of the router (if any).
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc.

For the main computer (with working Internet connection), and one of the non-working ones, let's see this:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
