Lenovo Yoga 3 14 No Longer Recognizing Power Adapter (USB)

Q: Lenovo Yoga 3 14 No Longer Recognizing Power Adapter (USB)

Help! My Lenovo Yoga 3 14 is no longer accepting the charge from my power adapter. And, naturally, it could not have come at a more inconvenient time. When I unplug and plug it back in, it gives me the following message in the lower right-hand corner:"USB device not recognizedThe last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." When I click for details, it gives me this:"The last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly." Except this isn't just any USB device - it's the ever-loving power adapter for this thing! I've tried everything and I'm at my wit's end. Any help?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone, I purchased Lenovo Yoga 900 Ideapad and I am currently using it in India. The power adapter seems to have gone bad and I wasn't able to charge the laptop with the given adapter.  Since the laptop is under warranty, I contacted the warranty help line only to know that I need to take the laptop to the service center. At a service center, no one really knew how the USB 3.0 charging port works and couldn't check whether the cable was short or the adapter had gone bad. Anyhow, they decided to replace it under warranty but again, they weren't sure when and if the replacement would arrive (as it depends on the inventory levels with Lenovo India).  An exclusive Lenovo shop then offered me an original Lenovo power adapter with USB 3.0 charging at USD 70 but only when it got delivered, I see that it is 40W and not 65W like the original one I had.  65W adapter - the USB 3.0 connecter (one which connects the laptop) is orange. The wall adapter doesn't heat up while laptop is charging.40W adapter - the USB 3.0 connecter is yellow. The wall adapter heats up quite a lot while the laptop is charging.  The Lenovo store representative has assured me that this is the right adapter but somehow I am not convinced.  Can the community throw some light on this:- Is it safe to use a 40W adapter for a 65W specification?- Is there any way I can get the adapter replaced by Lenovo US (I can ship the faulty adapter to US)?- I... I have 3 different Android phones: two MotoG2 and a Samsung S4.  Windows 10 Pro is all up to date; the latest is Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 (KB3150513) on 3/26/17.  Today I went to transfer files from my MotoG2 (Android 6.0) and it wasn't recognized.  "Transfer Files (MTP)" is selected on pnone.  This happens with all 3 Android phones.  In Device Manager, Portable Devices, all 3 phones are listed as "MTP" with an exclamation point (instead of the usual XT1064 for my MotoG2).  Uninstalling "MTP", rebooting the PC, and connecting the phones to reinstall the drivers doesn't work.  The phones are just flat not recognized as Android devices, just as Generic "MTP" with exclamation point.  I downloaded and installed Intel Atom Processor drivers for Android devices, and it didn't change anything.  One other PC I have has the same W10 update installed (KB3150513) and it recognizes the phones, no problem.  It is not an Intel machine.  I have no problem reading USB drives, and a Garmin GPS (as a mass storage device) on the 100S USB Ports.  I have been transfering files between my phones and the 100S for several months before this problem emerged.  This is the first time I've tried the connection on my 100S, since the KB3150513 W10 Update.  Help!  Thank you.

Yesterday, the computer was working properly.  TOday, it was working fine, but when the battery became low and I plugged it in, the computer did not recognize that it was plugged in.  What can cause this to occur?  The charger block was not warm.  Should it become warm when plugged in when it is working correctly?  If the charging unit and and cable are okay, what else could cause this problem? Since my computer is completely dead, there is litle I can do to troubleshoot at this point.  I appreciate any input you may be able to provide.

A:Lenovo Yoga Pro 3 suddenly quit recognizing it is plugged in to charge

I would expect it to be slightly warm but not hot.  Your symptoms can be a bad charger (most likely) or a motherboard.  Are you still under warranty?

Hello everyone,  I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga 720 13IKB. I've only have the unit for about three (3) weeks and the batter is no longer able to charge when connected to the power supply that came with the unit. I checked the AC adapter to make sure that it was properly connected to PC and it was. I plugged it to different outlets and it didn't help. I bought a replacement powersupply from my local MicroCenter and still nothing. I checked the Control Panel, open up the Power Options to see if there were any settings in there but nothing to show why it wasn't chraging. Then Opened the Device Manager. Under "Batteries" I saw two items, one for the battery and another listed as "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery". I Opened each item, which will brought up the Properties window. Under the "Driver" tab looked for "Update Driver." I went through the two options and did the same process of updating drivers. I went through the driver update process for all options. Once the drivers are all up to date, I rebooted the laptop and plug it in again. Then i unninstalled "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" completely and reboot. Still the problem persists.  I even updated all the windows Updates. Then I opened Lenovo's Companion app. I updated all the drivers that need updating and nothing changed. I still have my PC connected to AC power and the battery isn't charging. I opened the lenovo setting app and checked under battery section... Read more

A:Lenovo Yoga 720 13IKB No longer charging

Is it not charging at all, or just stuck at around 60%.    I ask because there i an option in Energy Management to select Maximum Battery Life, or Optimized Battery Health, and if set the latter (which I believe is the default), it will only charge to about 60 percent of capacity in an attempt to prolong the life of the battery.    Setting it to Maximum battery life will allow the batter to charge to 100% and you will get a longer run time, but you may have to replace the battery sooner.     If you leave the laptop usually plugged in, then optimized batter health is the better option. Cheers,

Hi! I just purchased a monitor and was hoping to work on my laptop and an additional monitor. I purchased a usbc to hdmi dongle, and it worked fine until now. I switched to using a usbc to hdmi cord instead and it still does not work so I'm pretty sure its a driver issue. I've checked Windows "Project to a Second Screen" option along with the same setting associated with my Intel Graphics 620 card. My computer can detect the connection to the monitor (from devices in the Control Panel) but when I go to the display/project settings my computer cannot detect another display. I've reinstalled the driver and restarted the computer multiple times. I've never owned a Lenovo device so I was also wondering if it was a weird Lenovo setting by chance haha Any feedback/help would be appreciated! I'm new to the Lenovo forums and would really appreciate it if anyone could help out! Especially since it used to work and no longer works. I can upload screenshots if that would help.

Hello Community,I have a relatively new (3 weeks) Yoga 920. I frequently read PDFs and like to switch to tablet portrait mode. I am not quite sure when the following issue happened, but sometime in the last week or so the machine quit the automatic process when you physically put the machine in tablet mode. I had some digging around and found the ymc service was not running, I tried to start it, but I got this message. I made sure all "auto rotate" locks were off. I restarted the machine, to no avail, the service was still stopped. I repeated this process an extra time or two, no dice. I then reinstalled the ymc driver, no change. From here I decided a bios update may not hurt (currently on ver. 5NCN36WW), that didn't help. I tried restarting the machine while in tablet mode (manually toggled from the notifications area) this didn't work either. Additional symptoms: When manually put into tablet mode (via the toggle in the notifications area) then taken out of this mode, the mouse pointer will disapper and the trackpad appears not to be working. Putting the computer to sleep then waking it seems to fix this issue. This does not occur when using a wireless mouse. Has anyone found a fix for the screen/computer not translating into tablet mode when the machine is physically put into a tablet configuration? I believe the ymc service refusing to run, even after manually telling it to is the issue, but I have no idea on how to fix it. Thanks in advance,-Skyehawk

I have an Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro and can't find a 12V DC car adapter anywhere. I have just bought an Lenovo 65W DC Travel adapter, but it dosn't have the right connecton til the notebook (USB). Is there a slim tip to USB converter or any other solution to connect my notebook to 12 Volt DC?

A:Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro and need a Travel / Car adapter

Welcome to the forum.

From what I can see this system uses a proprietary USB-like connector with a small notch on one corner. I'm not aware of a car charger for this format, either from Lenovo or from third parties. This blog explains some of the issues: UPDATE: Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro External Battery and Car adapter. See Update April 19, 2015.

Another option would be a 12VDC-to-110/240VAC car inverter, then use the standard AC charger that came with the Yoga 3 Pro. That is, of course, less efficient.

The Yoga 3 Pro power adapter looks like a normal USB brick, and the cord looks like USB, except with a kink in the connector at the Yoga 3 Pro end. Can I charge my phone or tablet with it?

A:What's with the Yoga 3 Pro power adapter - it's a ...

Yes the Yoga 3 Pro power adapter is a USB charger too!

How does it work?

The special "fool proof" charging cord has two extra pins on the AC adapter end and two extra pins on the Yoga 3 Pro end. The extra pins only make a connection when the fool proof cord is plugged in to the Lenovo charger and the Yoga 3 Pro. When a regular USB cord is plugged into either the charger or the Yoga 3 Pro, it makes a regular USB connection.

Can I charge the Yoga 3 Pro with any USB charger?

No. The Yoga 3 Pro requires 2A at 20V, which is what the provided 40W Lenovo AC adapter supplies.

Can I charge a USB device with the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter?

Absolutely. In addition to 2A at 20, the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter supplies 2A at 5.2V (10.4W), enough to charge a phone or tablet. Works for iPad.

Where can I buy spare AC adapters and cords?

AC adapters with cords are sold in the accessories section of the Lenovo store.

Where do I find the part numbers for the AC adapter and cord?

Look for AC Adapters In the PDF Yoga 3 Pro Hardware Maintenance Manual.

What are the USB specs of the Yoga 3 charging port?

It's a USB 2.0 port. It provides enough power to charge an iPhone, but not enough to charge an iPad. If you want to charge an iPad, try the USB 3.0 port on the right of the Yoga 3 Pro.

Does anybody know where I can get a replacement power adapter for a Lenovo Yoga 2 11? According to the manual, it should be 45W. It appears that neither the original nor any approve substitutes that are listed on the Lenovo site are available for purchase from Lenovo.  I tried to buy one online but ended up giving my money to an overseas scammer. There seems to be a facsimile available in the States, but reviews say that it is a fire hazard and wrecks computers. I have switched TB 3 mode to Displayport and USB in BIOS and that did not work. Anyone has any ideas? Much appreciated in advance.

I think there is a short in the power adapter. It gets red hot and only charges when not fully (about halfway) inserted into the wall outlet or power strip. I can hear sparking inside of the power brick when i insert it and a spark flies to or from the outlet to the adapter as the prongs near the receptacle. Not sure but I think this might be a short where the prongs fold into the adapter for travel. I don't transport it much so there isn't a lot of folding in and out in which I could blame the issue on over use. Anybody else have issues with the power adapter shorting? I have not had this computer very long, well since about christmas, what are my chances of Lenovo swapping this out for a new one? I am waiting for a call back after contacting tech support. Thanks for any input....

if you have informed Lenovo under 30 days about this issue then they will most probably give you refund/replacement otherwise they will send it for repair.

There isn't and there won't be an adapter.  The USB-C power delivery process involves a negotiation between the computer (or other device) and the adapter. The same adapter can charge a 5V phone or a 20V laptop. (also 9V or 15V) If the adapter and computer cannot negotiate correctly, no charging will occur. My USB-C charger will charge my thinkpad or my cell phone, but not my other laptops.

Model number 59394167.  The cord frayed and died a few days ago.  When I try looking the part up on the Lenovo site, it doesn't list a price or have an option to buy.  I found something on Amazon that isn't quite right.  It charges it, but it makes the computer hot and I get a message about slowed down perforrmance.  The computer still works great and I don't want to have to replace it over a power cord.  Help!
