Hijacked - Virtumonde - wont delete and HP PC System Recovery wont work. Please help.

Q: Hijacked - Virtumonde - wont delete and HP PC System Recovery wont work. Please help.

I stupidly downloaded a file from Limewire which was suppose to be software for covertining music files. It never worked and since my computer has got worse and worse!

(note i am even having to use a different computer to use this forum)

Norton, aol and windows antivirus fail to find and destroy any viruses and all crash after so long of scanning. AOL spyware protection keeps blocking files called Virtumonde BY AND Virtumonde K, but will not let me delete them.

When connected to internet, no matter what web address i put in it always goes to the same webpage. Some kind of spyware i imagine. When disconnected something keeps trying to connect.

Other symtoms are -

computer crashes randomly.
computer restarts itself randomly
When i click on help and support it wont open and trys to connect to the internet.
when shutting down, the end task msg for - rundll32.exe appears
Safe mode does not work and simply wont start.
When windows starts and the screen to put in your password appears, i do so and press enter, then it flashes and goes back to that screen so i have to put it in again.
When windows loads up errors appear -
hpqthb08.exe application error
pchnotify.exe application error

Half of the system memory is always in use, even tho i have no software open (commit charge: 488M / 1248M)

HP PC SYSTEM RECOVERY seams like the best think to do (already on my computer) and just completely reset my computer back to factory settings but this just restarts windows and does nothing either.

I have not got a windows xp cd as i have
a second drive for the recovery

Im really stuck with what to do, below is the Hijack report.

Preferred Solution: Hijacked - Virtumonde - wont delete and HP PC System Recovery wont work. Please help.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi first time poster

Full specs: MSI Z68a-GD80 i5 2500k Gtx680 Asus Hitachi Deskstar 1tb (boot) KingstonSSD120gb (games)

So last night I shrunk my HDD partition by 100gb, intending to dual boot W8. Never got round to installing it, but when I turned on my PC tjis morning it won't boot. It shows the manufacturer logo then goes to a black.screen with a blinking underscore

I decided to try putting in my W7 disk in to repair, but it starts loading windows filesthen givesme an error about not bring able to communicate with a device.0xc0000009 I think. I thought my HDD might be the issue, but it does it also when my HDD is unplugged and just my SSDpluggedin

Worried my PC is bricked at this point cause I can't boot or repair from disk. Advice appreciated!

A:Need Help. W7 wont boot after resizing partition. Recovery wont work.

Try a linux boot disc and see if you can change the partition size a tiny bit with that. Gparted is your best bet:

GParted -- Download

If you can, that may fix the error.

Umm yea I am normally decent with pcs but recently after I let my friend use it for the weekend there are things wrong such as. Speed Slowed, Some AV software saying 146 infections. I dont know how to explain the problem.

When I first got the pc from my Uncle I used the Recovery partition in the f10 system recovery.

But When I go to use it now it just ignores my pressing. Im kinda getting pissed since no recovery CDs. It is Windows XP Home Edition says on sticker. Is it possible to boot the D:\ drive (The recovery partition) with command prompt. Or am I screwed since it just ignores me pressing f10.

Also if you tell me to restart my pc anymore to try setup and such...It takes like 5-10 mins to load my pc up now. It used to be fine and speedy.

Thx For Any Help

None of my games will work. I took some advice of a forum because I couldnt get Perfect World to work and changed something in the registry to do with the port. Now no game will work and i would change it back but i dont know what it was previously.
My system restores wont work, wont even undo, and theres only one days worth there now. I dont know how to do a utilities reg scan which I think may be what I need to do, I dont know if its in my pc or on my XP disk. I cant use the disk because I dont know how to find my product code and the person I bought it off has gone to Cyprus .

I've done a Drwebcureit but really I need instructions for a 2 year old and I think this has happened since my last one. I had a Win32 Trojan in the other day and Vundo got rid of it I think, maybe its got something to do with that, maybe its still lurking around. Ive done a Combofix amd this was at the top - WARNING -THIS MACHINE DOES NOT HAVE THE RECOVERY CONSOLE INSTALLED. If anyone can help me, you would save my life, its driving me mad now.

A:system repair wont work windows wont load

Might be a failing Hard drive. Get to your bios and see if there is any diagnostics there to do a hard drive test. On some motherboards its delete on others its F2. If there is no diagnostics on the bios i would make a USB bootable diagnostics and do that.
I just had the same problems and found out the hard way that it was a hard drive.

All of a sudden, I turn on my lap top (lenovo idea pad flex 10) and it takes forever to Load, then says windows 8 wont boot or something.
Takes me to a blue screen and I tries to system restore but that also won't load and go through. Help please?
I went to advanced options and pulled up the box you type **** in butI don't know what to put km it to make windows boot!

A:windows 8 wont boot and system restore wont work

You need to be much more specific about what your problem is. I can't tell at all from your post what's really happening, and neither will anybody else. What exactly happens? What exact messages do you get? What "advanced options" are you talking about? Also, it appears this site's profanity filter has blocked something in your post. Using such language is not helpful.

Everytime I run a scan with Spybot search and destroy it finds and suposedly kills virtumonde, however it keeps coming back. Ad-Aware Pro doesn't even find it to kill it, and numerous little "fixes" on the web have either just not worked or been infected with other spyware themselves. I'll post a Hijack this report in 15 MIN.

I'm running Win XP (sp2) and just recently reloaded my OS. After re-installing all of my programs and imaging my Docs and Setting back to my new HDD, I ran a scan with my Webroot SS w AV and it detected some cookies, but also a mal-behavioral adware and trojan-virtumonde. Ran the scan and spysweeper (supposedly) quarantined the infections, but I am still having problems. I cannot search google (my homepage) for IE or Firefox, and I am getting popus from "AntiSpywareSuite" and "TrojanRemover". Also, every once in a while, SpySweeper will pop up and say it is "blocking IE BHO installation" of all different *.dll files. Here is a HTLog below. PLEASE HELP!! -Ashley

So i did this followed the instructions and when i tried to set the automatic updates to automatic and click start i get an error message reading "Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.". So i googled to and i have been to a few help pages and a few forums and tried wot they have said and tried removing stuff with programs such as, spybot search and destroy, super anti spyware and malewarebyte's anti male ware. These appear to have done nothing to help very much and now several itcons seem to be missing from my taskbar (bottom right of screen). Hopefully i haven't messed anything up so far but i need help. Here are the 2 logs:Logfile of random's system information tool 1.04 (written by random/random)Run by Leeroy Reid at 2008-12-05 14:40:24Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3System drive C: has 89 GB (29%) free of 305 GBTotal RAM: 2047 MB (66% free)Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 14:40:41, on 05/12/2008Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16735)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe... I'm having trouble recovering my laptop. I have a sony vaio and i had a boot error and could not get it to boot properly so i had to order a recovery disk which i loaded and the directions say put disk in then restart, and the recovery wizard will start. well nothing happens when i put it in. all i get is a black screen. so did some research and some say i may need to set up the cd rom as the #1 boot priority. now im not sure but i think i have it right. internal optical drive should be first right???? the other options were floppy drive, usb flash, internal hard disk drive and network. im at a loss....i thaught all i would have to do is insert these recovery disks and i could just basicly start all over but im getting nothing but a message at the bottom of screen saying windows is loading files then when its done my screen just stays blank like forever....until i eventually reset it. If someone could please give me some advice it would be greatley appreciated....thx

A friend of mine is asking for help and I am powerless since I do not have windows vista so I thought about you guys! There is the problem:

with Windows Vista , in Windows Mail, if you've sent too large a file, you've got trouble. the mail server is not microsoft (Hotmail or MSN)
It won't send, but keeps trying to send, it won't delete in any conventional and non conventional method and although there is an update to handle this issue, it isn't applicable to our Vista machine, as it's about eighteen months old, therefore a dinosaur in the world of technology.

She does'nt want to download or create another email server that would require changing her email address. She downloaded Incredible because she CAN retain her email address, and will use it until she find a way to get that sent file that won't go deleted from Windows Mail.. Can you help? Thanks

Something has happened to my copy of Outlook Express 5. When I try to delete messages either the program hangs or I get an error message saying a fatal exception has occured and the program must be shut down. I have tried re-installing but just seem to get the same Outlook and same problem. Can anyone suggest how I can cure this?
I am using IE 5.5 and Win 98

A:(Solved) Delete wont work in Outlook Express

When it errors, does if have a Details button available? If so, click on the Details button and post the exact details of the error message.

Even without seeing the error, a guess would be you have a corrupt mailbox folder. Try this,

Start>Find>Files(Make sure "Look in" is pointed to your harddrive) key in folders.dbx and press enter. Right click on the Folders.dbx file and then click Rename. Rename it to folders.old and then click OK.

Now Start Outlook Express. The folders.dbx file will be recreated automatically.

If it still errors, then post the details.

oh and the initial problem was the laptop wud just shut off before fully booting. it seems to run in safe mode though.

a little help wud be awesome thanks!

A:recovery disc wont work - vista toshiba l300

Hi -

If the DVD does not boot up, there should be a recovery partition on your system - usually F10 during boot-up brings up the recovery menu.

Before you do that - you said you can get into safemode? See if you can get into Safemode w/ Networking and follow these instructions -

If no networking, copy the 2 files over to the system. Then run w/out Internet.

I can take a look at the output files for clues behind the system restarts before you restore it to factory settings. That may not be necessary if a bad driver is the cause (software) and it is updated.

Do you recall any changes made to the system prior to the restarts?

Also, for info - you can order another set of recovery discs from Toshiba. I don't know their charge for them, but HP charges $25-$30.

Regards. . .

Went to MS Dowload center and downloaded and installed 87updates to include IE8, started computer, all OK. Then updater said needed to download SVC Pack 3- took a loooooooooooooong time. THEN COMPUTER WOULDNT START- tried the two options it gave me but no go back to same black screen with boot options-- regualar- last working point- safe mode etc. no go.
At this point I did a full System Recovery again and downloaded virus protection again. I noticed some of the updates are for IE6 and later your install IE8 and it seems one of the updates was for Sc Pack 3. Wondering about these updates now, dont want to go back and have to do this all over again. I have all my important files on a seperate portable backup drive. Any advice would be appreciated.

For some reason, my logon background image isnt showing up anymore, and when I try to change back to the way I had done it, regedit wont run, I've searched the forums for an answer, with no luck. And when I go to click grant admin full control, it brings up an open with menu, so I need a command script to grant admin to certain files again.

Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

Please help, and thanks. And no, I dont have any viruses or malware, I take good care of my computer.

A:Regedit wont run, and grant admin full control context menu wont work

Hello ElliottGenocide

Firstly do you have a system restore point available from before these problems occurred - System Restore
Can you remember what it was you changed in the registry.
Have a look through this,it has a copy of the default background and an application to change the logon background without having to touch the registry - Log On Screen - Change
I would also run this - SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker see if that helps.

I am experiencing all kinds of strange problems on my computer....I got sick of trying to solve them & decided to just reinstall completely, using my Acer Aspire T300 Recovery CD for Windows XP...

Problem?....my system will NOT boot into it!

I start up, toggling F12...get the window up with boot options...click on CDROM...& instead of it going into its reinstall, I get the following on my screen....

"Verifying DMI Boot Data
Boot from CD 1.44mb System Type-(OF)
starting Windows 98

Windows is bypassing your startup files

Microsoft(R) Windows 98 (C) Copyright microsoft Corp 1981-1999

A:\> "

I thought it may be my CDROM playing up, but I also cannot boot into safe mode.....
If I try to use diskcheck on startup, it instantly cancels, & proceeds into starting windows as normal....
The one time I did manage to get a diskcheck, it said I have a number of unrecoverable files.....

Any ideas on what the heck is going on?

A:System wont boot into recovery CD

Is your recovery CD ok? It can contain an error....there is a reason this special DOS sesion doesnt load the way it should...Do you have some diagnostic options on this CD? You could try to load some from the ACER website probably.

I'm in a real mess since Lavasoft AdAware crashed my windows 7 home premium edit. 64bit after its 1st initial mandatory reboot. Everything is frozen, nothing can be clicked on or done in any way, shape or form. Even 'Esc' and 'Ctrl-Alt-Del wont work. PC must be shutdown manually. It also wont uninstall in safe mode. Once in safe mode the 1st time I got windows telling me that it cant uninstall this software in safe mode (this was done by its own uninstaller, and by the windows one, and by the Revo Pro uninstaller.) the 2nd time (reboot) it told me it wasnt installed properly. the 3d time it can't install in safe mode again. What now please? Anyone have an idea?

Thank you

A:Lavasoft AdAware crashed win7-Ctrl-alt-del wont work & it wont uninstall in safe mode

Sorry solved it. I'll write the answer should anyone need it someday. I believe my solution can help for other similar cases besides Ad-Aware.
A minute after I posted this a thought came to mind: Go into safe Mode and use msconfig.exe. So I ran it and unchecked everything to do with Ad-Aware. TO be even more sure I checked off not to run also other things that I knew would not be needed like anything to do with Apple, or Adobe. Afterwhich, doing a proper reboot Windows did actually start normally--no crash and I was able to uninstall it. Slowly I put back other services and start-up items and all is working fine now--so far at least ;-) Thanks for those who took a look and I hope it will help some people in the future.

Try this fix: EXEFIX

Unzip the fix and extract the .reg file to the desktop. Double-click it to merge it to the registry. Note that you need to be an Administrator to apply this fix.

Reboot the computer.

If the fix only opens as a text file, right-click it and select Open With > Choose Program... Then, select the Registry Editor.

If the Registry Editor is not in the list, browse to C:\WINDOWS and select regedit.

The last two weeks I have had problems with my work computer. I basically can not open most web sites, or they will opwn painfully slow.
I also can not use any web serch engines, like google or yahoo. They all eventually time out when performing a search.

We use Trend Micro as our anti virus software, and I know most here in the office all have the same worm called: worm_downad.ad
Trend Micro is currently putting the infected files in quarantine. I'm the only one with the above problem though.

I do use Advanced Windows Care to keep my computer running clean.

Two weeks ago, when I first had this problem, I got a new IP address from our IT administrator, and my computer worked fine for a few days, before turning to its old ways.

Not sure if this is malware, a network problem or what. Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Search engines wont work/web pages wont open

It seems that no browser will work. I've tried IE8, Safari and Chrome.
It often loads the banners on a website, but the rest (the main part) loads really really slowly.

Could it be something to do with active x or java script having difficulty loading?

its nearly the same problem as this thread Virus - Access denied - H:\system volume information

i have files laying on the hdd but i cant remove them. it tried reformatting but using roguekiller to fix shortcuts only brings them back. and i think this is what makes the desktop all twitchy.
clean reinstall didnt help.

its the same problem as being epileptic. its not fun. and may i add, done clean reinstall "deleting partition reformatting partition", and same thing happens after a while when i done reinstalling.
it has even happened during gaming. "oh lets go join a game - nope, shutdown time!!!:S"

is there a easy option? - like program start from cd\dvd and format the whole disk so that it nearly new?

A:System Volume Information and $RECYCLE.BIN wont delete

think i fixed it by doing normal format instead of quick format. if recycle bin and system volume information shows automatically if "show protected systems file" is unchecked i think thats the fix to this and its not a virus its just some misscalculation to backup gone wrong.

one of them starts loading windows 8 then goes to a black screen and does nothing...the other one gets to a login screen and after login goes to a black screen and does nothing...

now...is there a safe mode in windows 8??? i have read on numerous articles that if you hold down shift and press f8 it will start up recovery options
i have tried this about 50 times...nothing...all other recovery info starts safe mode from within windows...whats the point of that???

i also have a win8 dvd that i tried booting up, and although my one laptop (the one thats going straight to the black screen) said something about trying recovery options...nothing happened

so what is the procedure with windows 8??? how can we get a crashing system recovered...is there some third party tool that can assist with these problems??? any help appreciated

Hello all,

I have a question for you.

last week I had some problems with my system where most of all the programs stopped working. The computer will start fine and I can surf the web and get my emails, but thats about all. I got out my gateway restore disk and started to restore my system as new again.

Heres the problem. I reboot the computer with disk in drive and tap R as explained and the screen just stays black, then the computer starts to Beep every time I hit the R key. I then tried doing it again, this time tapping the F11 key and system starts to Beep again, with the black screen.

I called gateway and they sent me out another restore disk thinking maybe the one I received was bad. The new restore CD did the same thing. Last week I did have a problem with installing programs where I would get this error message ( C:\windows\system32\autoc.nt. This system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft Windows applications ) I fixed that problem right away by replacing the Autoexec.nt, command.com and config.nt files back into the system32 folder, must have been done by SP2.

I went into my Bios and made sure the system was booting from CD-ROM yet it still wont read the recovery disk. NOTE: CD-Rom does work with any other program CD I have, Just not the recovery disks.
If anyone has an answer or can narrow down my problem please respond.

Thank You.

A:System Wont Read Recovery Disk

Well, let me start by asking this, did the computer, when you got it, come with Windows XP SP1 than you upgraded to SP2 and/or have you updated the bios or any system preferences?

It seems to me that maybe the recovery CD is out of date. Have you tried re-intalling the programs that don't work and making sure there isn't a third-party application corrupting your files?

If you have a Windows XP install CD, try repairing the Windows install with that instead of the Gateway CD.

As for the beeping keyboard strikes, that's probably just a keyboard error that you either press the keys too late or too early, or something else. Try the other things and if that's not the case and you need to get to the CD, we'll work with the keyboard thing.

And also, do you run the CD at startup or while Windows is running? I've never owned a Gateway and only worked on a few, so I'm unsure of when you actually use the restore disc.

Most of what you posted (all that software info) was pointless and unneccesary.
What we need is the info from the BSOD (Blue Screen OF Death) just before automatic restart kicks in.

You need to disable automatic restart so that the BSOD stays on screen for you to be able to read it. Restart will then not occur until you restart manually.
To disable auto-restart:

Navigate to the Control Panel in Windows XP by left-clicking on Start, followed by Settings and then choosing Control Panel.

In the Control Panel window, open System.

Note: In Microsoft Windows XP, depending on how your operating system is setup, you may not see the System icon. To correct this, click on the link on the left-hand side of the Control Panel window that says Switch to Classic View.

In the System Properties window, click on the Advanced tab.

Locate the Startup and Recovery area and click on the Settings button.

In the Startup and Recovery window, locate and uncheck the check box next to Automatically restart.

Click OK in the Startup and Recovery window.

Click OK in the System Properties window.

From now on, when a problem causes a BSOD or another major error that halts the system, the PC will not automatically reboot. Rebooting manually will be necessary.
