OE6, AVG Personal Email Scanner & K9

Q: OE6, AVG Personal Email Scanner & K9

Slightly confused.
How do I configure OE6 so that AVG Personal Email Scanner (plug in) and K9 work considering that you must change the server settings.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I guess I need a plug-in ?

I know that this is a common question and I've been here before, but I can not find the forum post.

I am having a problem with the AVG E-Mail scanner as it is displaying that the E-mail scanner is not active and there are no plug=ins installed.

I have seen both answers, that you do not need this and do need it I have a ISP, and use Outlook Express V. 6.

I can not find the D/L site for plug-ins.

I also get that the update connection failed, but when I click updates it loads and sucessfully completes the down load.

Thanks for any help !

Hi! I'll try to keep this as brief as possible, but it's really difficult to explain. One of my email buddies (fortunately he's an honest person) recently told me that any email I send him, from both my home and work computers, has a ton of garbled info attached to the end of the email... The info includes previous emails I've sent to other people, cell phone bill details, shopping details - ANY and EVERYTHING I do online is connected to my emails to him. It doesn't matter what email I use... My Outlook account at work, Gmail, Aol, RR... it all attaches info to EVERY email I send to him. Even the "Read Receipt" he receives when I click on one of his emails has info attached to it. !?!?!?!!! IT'S EXTREMELY DISTURBING! And he also receives info from my family members who use my computer at home, so it's not just MY info he's receiving.

I do know that he is on a "Whitelist" with the company he works for (for a very important reason), so he's not bound to the security that everyone else is protected by. He's had his computer restaged twice and it still keeps happening. He uses Outlook and it happens with his desktop AND his laptop at work.

I thought about talking to my IT Helpdesk at work, but haven't yet since this is happening from EVERY computer I use, so I know it's not a specific computer issue. Is there, perhaps, something that my friend has done, without my knowing, to gain access to my per... Read more

I can't add our shared org email using the normal outlook setup. I tried POP/IMAP, it worked but the emails and subfolders are incomplete. And the shared org email is associated with my personal org email, whenever I tried to remove the associated folders,
it say's "This group of folders is associated with an email account. To remove the account, click the File Tab, and on the Info tab, click Account Settings. Select the e-mail account and than click Remove."
Then I tried a lot of times to remove my email and back again, it is still there. I also removed the additional mailboxes in the screenshot below.

The CardScan Personal 60 Scanner with v8.0.5 software ALMOST works on Windows-7 64-bit by using Virtual XP Mode.  The CardScan software installs without problem in XP Mode.  Using the "Virtuallized USB" capability of XP Mode, the scanner
is recognized as a "Corex CardScan 60" in XP Mode.  However, it is necessary to use the Hardware Update Wizard to install the correct driver.  Either cdscn60.inf or cdscn62.inf (32-bit driver installers in the CardScan software package)
seem to work.  After installing the driver, Device Manager reports that the device is operating properly.  Upon starting the CardScan application, it recognizes the scanner as a CardScan 60.  The application then asks for the scanner be to calibrated
with a white card.  The blue triangle on the scanner lights up, so it's definitely responding to the application, but clicking OK on the calibration dialog prompt does nothing.  The scanner won't actually read in the calibration card, and without
calibration the application won't go any further.
Anyone have any ideas how to get it to go the last inch?

Well I have been having problems with Kaspersky lately with it's RAM usage, once it actually took up around 100 megabytes of my RAM, and from my friends I heard Symantec Corp Edition only takes up 9 megabytes maximum, I'm just wondering about the virus detection percentage and overall usage, what would you say I should buy as a full version now.

I have recently encountered recurring problems with my ATT/Yahoo email. Turned out that, evidently, it was not a browser problem since the same problems of looping and locking out occurred on FF, Chrome, and Safari. the problem was remedied, then returned, then remedied again, but then other problems and annoyances have become too big a nuisance.
I have had an att.net email address from inception and don't wish to change it. (I have a gmail acct as well, but less active.)
I used to use Outlook Express, which then became Live Mail.
What I want is a free email "client" as the term goes, that is web-based for access anywhere, preferably cross-platform to sync with my Ipad & phone, and that at least allows an option to block all advertising (probably for a fee?), or one that works with AdFender or similar blocker (as Yahoo does not). Maybe using an "alias" on gmail is possible, as long as my address still appears in correspondence as from ~att.net.
My browser of choice has been FF, but some commentators found the new version to "buggy". I don't use IE, and I don't care to be a pawn to the Google cyber-empire. Safari may be acceptable; I use it on my Ipad. My laptop runs on Win 7.

Suggestions, please? Thanks.

A:what's the best email for personal use?

What I want is a free email "client" as the term goes, that is web-based ...Click to expand...

Conflicting wants. An email client is a program or App that runs on your computer/tablet/smart phone while "web-based" implies using a browser for web mail access.

You started out talking about a mail service, brought up email clients, and ended asking for suggestions for a browser. For what do you really want suggestions?

I work for a company that has a very secure computer system because of the type of business they are in. What I would like to know is if I used my computer from work (xp) and went into my personal internet service at home read my personal emails and I sent out personal emails through my home internet service can they read my personal messages and emails?

A:How private is personal email

Hi newb

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Even though you are accessing *your* webmail, you are still using the company's equipment to do so. Your messages will be relayed through their servers, they can and will read your messages if they choose, you may also be placing your job on the line if you use their equipment for personal use.

Bottom line, it is not private at all, so never compose an email concerning your feelings about the boss, a coworker or any office gossip.
It can be printed and used against you.

Being the most tech savvy person in my company (coffee shop/bakery), I've been tasked with changing the forwarding email of our websites to one email. I don't have a lot of information from the owner (ie. backend info, hosts, etc). So I'm trying to assess what the process looks like so I can just gather the information I need and do it without gathering more information than I have to because finding the information will (I suspect) be more time consuming than actually implementing this change.

basically [email protected] forwards to someone's personal gmail which should forward to a different email but responses should still show up as [email protected]

Any tips would be super valuable.

Should they just invest in a full time or regularly contracted web developer? Probably, but they haven't so.... I'm learning as I go. LOL!

A:Hourglass flashes only in personal email

OK, how are you accessing your emails (web based or email client)?

I don't see anything wrong in the log here. Did you run an antivirus scan?

You said it does (do you mean doesn't) shutdown? Are those other accounts also for the same email provider as the primary? Does the primary have a lot of emails stored (assuming it's a email client)?

This might be more of a software issue than spyware. So if your antivirus program doesn't find anything, post this in software or internet forum instead. Talking about antivirus programs. You don't seem to have an antivirus program installed. Please download a free one at Grisoft http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php. Install it and make sure to check for updates.

How can you put your personal signature on the computer where you can use it to sign a document such as a proposal?

I have seen emails or attachments that had the personal signature but can not figure out how they did it.

I am not talking about a signature that would have info on it but a copy of your actual handwritten signature.

A:Personal signature on email or Word

For a written look, use a cursive font. Take a screenshot of it and save as gif or png so you can make the background transparent if you want to use it on colored backgrounds (transparency doesn't matter if you only use it on white).
Resize and crop the pic to the desired finished size and just insert it.

If you want your actual signature, scan it in and do the same.

Got an email today from an online retailer that I never heard of about a fictional order with a link to check the details.
Of course these are quite common but in this case they have my full name, cellphone number, and a previous address.
Should I be worried about this? Is there anything I can do?

A:Email spammer has personal info

Welcome to BC...
A bit late to be concerned about your info being on the web. You made a huge error in even opening the email. Now, most likely, the spammer
knows he has a valid email address to spam due to a beacon hidden in the email. Clicking on links in emails or opening attachments are dangerous, too.
NEVER open an email from unknown source and NEVER open an attachment unless you are 100% sure of what it contains.
That info could of been gotten from numerous sources.

I have a personal email address ([email protected], for example) which I would like to use for my Microsoft account. When I try to do this I get errors similar to:

"You can't use @stuff.me in your Microsoft account email address. Please try a different email address."

depending on which site I'm trying to do this on (xbox.com, microsoft.com, etc.). Normally I really wouldn't have a problem with Microsoft doing it's own thing, but if I'm supposed to use this account on my personal computer now (with Windows 8 just over the
horizon), why am I not allowed to use the email that I want to use?

The better question is, how do I get around this? I've noticed restrictions and questions are different depending on which Microsoft site you try to create your account on. Is there a way to make an account using my personal email? Or a way to make my personal
email the primary one after creating the account?

(Before anyone asks, I'm using a gmail account to post this.)

Outlook .pst folders transfer

? I have two separate sets of files, one labelled Archives and the other labelled Personal Folders, both of which have multiple subfolders.
? I've now copied both(using a memory stick), to the Dell desktop.
? I tried the Import and Export feature and also tried the Open Data File feature
? The Archive folder gets copied with all the sub-folders, but I can only access those if the memory stick is inserted into a USB port, even though the Archive folder is saved on the Dell desktop
? When I do the same thing with the Personal Folders, a ?Merge? folder opens but it doesn?t have any content
? I do see the default Personal Folders on the left side of the Outlook screen
What should I do?

Satya Nadella wants to know what took you so long? (Joke, sorry)
Microsoft has been pinning their hopes on this very scenario. The only solution I know is really a compromise to something IT found acceptable: They created an app specific to this single purpose for their employees on the level where BYOD is not an option (departmental heads and higher are issued Windows Mobile devices). Like I said it's kind of a solution in that it allows IT some form of control that's acceptable rather than moving the company to Windows Mobile across the board which gives you the amount of control and level of security IT wants.
Sorry if that's not the simple solution you were hoping for. As long as Microsoft still has real hope of getting traction in the mobile OS marketplace you're unlikely to see it from them

This is odd - but am wondering why ...
When I am using Hotmail - NortonInternetSecurity alerts me to the fact that my "personal" (ISP) email address is being sent to Hotmail. I get tired of blocking it and change my application to Hotmail in InternetExplorer (which is a drag if I want to activate eMail elsewhere ... changing back and forth)

Does anyone know why this happens?
Many thanks

A:NortonInternetSecurity catches: personal eMail address being sent to Hotmail

Norton's internet security setting alerts you when you are about to send pre selected personal information. If you are getting a warning when going into hotmail I am assuming that your hotmail address and your isp address have a common name in them (yours maybe). It sounds as you have set up internet security with your e-mail address, to warn you when you type it anywhere, and you are typing a similar thing to get into your hotmail account so it throws up a warning. It should only recognise exactly what you've asked it to recognise. If you have asked it to recognise your complete e-mail address (ie you typed the full address in the security settings) then I don't understand.
You can set it to recognise bits of your address though.
So if your name is mugsy and your isp e-mail address is [email protected], you can set it to warn you everytime you are about to send "mugsy" somewhere.
When you go to hotmail you will maybe then type [email protected]. This will throw up a warning that you are about to send your e-mail [email protected] address to hotmail.
It depends what you have set it up as, but something will be common to the 2 addresses. What is it?

I registered my domain with 123-reg which provided a free mailbox 2 years ago. Come renewal time, I am told that the mailboxes will no longer be free and need to pay ?12 per annum for 1GB. I understand that gmail and outlook used to offer a way of linking personal email addresses for free. So before I part with my cash, do any of you gurus know of any other free/cheaper service I could use to link my personal email addresses to?

I would like the service to provide IMAP, as that's how I sync my mail with Thunderbird and AppleMail. I did try Outlook, but I need to use their web interface for emails to be sent as my personal email address set as an alias. Through Thunderbird, it sends as the Outlook address.

On a slightly separate note....with IMAP, if I reach the capacity of my mailbox and purge some emails, will they remain in my offline email client?

Thanks in advance!

My scanner is Microtek Scanmaker 4800. Not impressed with the company for technical support. Must confess that I have not read all the fine print about this scanner. It has dedicated button for Email. Am settling my Mother's estate and my brother lives in another state. This scanner makes a file about 1.5MB out of one page and it takes 15 to 30 minutes to send by Email. If I type page in WORD and send as attachment, it transmits quickly. Looks to like one page of text is like another page of text, but my scanner does not see it that way. Any way to speed sending scanned pages?

A:Scanner and Email

Bus Driver
A 1.5MB image which is what your scanner is creating is very large and I am surprised your ISP allows that large of a transfer. Many limit it to 1MB. Anyway there is two possibly three ways to handle this.
1) Scan the image to your computer first and resize it in a graphics editor before sending. The resizing will reduce the time required to upload.
2) See if your scanner has a resolution setting such as 50, 100,200 DPI. Set it to the lowest DPI you can and still hold the quality.
3) Use the above procedures and insert your images into a folder and zip that folder for transmission.

Are there any ideas out there?

I was looking through AVG Free and noticed some settings in the Email Scanner section that made me wonder if I was getting the full protection.

I received an email from and old dial up account I had and it had a .zip file that was listed as and .exe file. I deleted it. This is what prompted me to start looking at my settings in AVG.

Here is an image of my settings there. What should I change and should I add some file extgensions in the box?

A:[SOLVED] email scanner

Hello and Welcome back to TSF

If your using AVG Free Edition, the email scanner should be functional. Both the free and paid versions of AVG have that feature for most popular email clients. See http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5/us/frt/0/num/677

My AVG (Ver 8.0.169) email scanner recently went to "not active" and I can't work out how to make it active. I even uninstalled the program then reinstalled it but that didn't help. This happened once before and it seemed to right itself after a couple of days but this time it's been a week. Any suggestions.

I am having an odd problem with my AVG free anti-virus program, which hopefully somebody might be able to shed some light?
(I have Windows XP, AVG free version and Zonealarm firewall)
All has been running sweetly enough, until lately I get this message/warning that my email scanner is not active. When I open the AVG program I see the email scanner marked 'not active' but nowhere is there an option to activate it!
I checked under advanced settings and selected email settings - but find the boxes which enable email scanning are already ticked...so what gives?

Twice now I have uninstalled the AVG program, then reinstalled it again to get the email scanner up and working again - but now its become silly because its back to the same error again.

I've no idea what caused this and no idea how to remedy it...
Please can you help me?

A:AVG email scanner not active

Go to control Panel, Administrative tools, Services and scroll for AVG email Scanner. Left click to highlight it and select Restart the service. Close both of those windows and your email scanner is active.

I know that this has been posted before, because I saw it, but I couldn't find it back after I'd finished registering so I can post here. Anyway:

(QUOTE: Open the control center and click on the Email scanner.
Now there should be a Activate and Properties buttin on the lower right.)

I have the free 8 something version of AVG which I downloaded from here. I followed the above instructions (or tried to), but my version of AVG doesn't have the "activate and properties button" on the lower right, or anywhere else on the AVG interface for the email scanner component. It's red & says that there are no plug-ins. How do I fix it?

A:AVG email scanner plug-ins.

Maybe this thread will help you.
