I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So this is a problem I've been having rather quite recently, adn is bugging me since I now can't play on it anymore with my friends. The main problem is that I can't get into the BIOS screen due to a lack of the system password... any ideas on what I can do to look it up or something? Or do I have to take it into a store?

I use Macrium reflect imaging software and plan to be prepared for a Lenovo crash. The problem is that for the recovery the Lenovo would have to boot from the flash drive and in order to do so I would have to change the boot order--which was easy in older laptops. Now in the Lenovo and others, you have safe boot, fast boot, legacy boot, etc and choosing what to do is complicated and threatening. I tried tweaking in a Dell and later could not boot the laptop. Please advise.

Hi Community, I really hope one of my fellow community members is willing to help me out. To start things off, some general information: I own a Lenovo Y510P Ideapad which is 3 years old. I have never had many issues with the laptop, however a few months ago it started to become much slower, therefore I reset my laptop to factory settings. Unfortunately this did not solve my problem. A few days ago I tried to start my laptop, but it was struggling and it ended up starting to prepare automatic repair. After waiting for almost 10 hours nothing changed and I decided to force shut down the laptop by holding the power button. After trying to start the laptop again I was left with the problem I am stuck with now. It starts with a black screen with "Checking media.." in the top left corner. This is followed up by a screen showing me "EFI Network 0 for IPv4 boot failed." and "EFI Network 0 for IPv6 boot failed." Pressing a key leads me to a screen which tells me that the default Boot Device is Missing or Boot Failed. I checked in the BIOS Setup whether my HDD is connected and it is detected. I bought a new SSHD as I though the HDD may simply be broken, however I get the same issue with the new SSHD. The SSHD is detected, same issue though. After googling I found that some people were able to start their laptop by setting the Boot Mode to "Legacy Support". I tried this aswell, but no success. After changing the boot mode to Legacy Support I ... Read more

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,

Please try removing the battery, ac adaptor, and also remove any external device
Connected to your system Press the power button for 30 -45 sec, repeat the process
4 to 5 times, now connect ac adaptor switch on and try entering the Bios using F2 key.
If you are successful then proceed to boot the system using CD and check

If unsuccessful try removing the Hard Drive from the laptop to check if the system is booting using CD rom drive

If successful try reconnecting Hard Drive back to check, If same issue is there that means the HDD is faulty and needs to be replaced. You may please contact Local Lenovo Support  to have system verified

Refer  Lenovo IdeaPad S100 Hardware Maintainence Manual   for instructions how to remove Hard Drive

Randomly I got the Blue Screen of Death error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION and apparently this issue occurs because the iastor.sys driver, is not compatible with Windows 10. So I changed the storage controller from Intel Rapid Storage sata controller to Intel mobile express chipset sata controller which was the other driver already on my 3 week old laptop. However, after this the laptop would not boot! It just kept saying 'automatically attempting repairs'. I then went into the BIOS and changed the SATA from RAID to AHCI and then the laptop would boot. But now the driver is just 'Standard NVM Express Controller'. I tried to reinstall the intel rapid stroage sata controller driver but then the laptop would not boot in RAID or AHCI! So I had to do a system restore and now the laptop seems to be working on AHCI and it has a boot loop on RAID.  My question is, should I put the laptop back on RAID (original factory setting) and after the boot loop should I reset the laptop to install a fresh copy of Win10 from recovery? Or should I leave it as it is now on AHCI with Microsoft Standard NVM Express Controller driver? Are there any disadvantages? My SSD is a Samsung PM961 (samsung mzvlw512hmjp) I need some help quickly before my 30 days returns period runs out. I really like the laptop but are there any problems with it?

Good morning everybody,

I have bought my laptop 1 year ago and everything was going ok, i installed many programs (Adobe illustrator) and games (PES2011) and many others and i faced no problems.
One day, my cousin used the laptop to watch a new movie but he forgot to charge the battery during that time until the laptop shuts down alone due to empty battery.
On the next day, i tried to power on my laptop it starts normally until it reached the Windows 7 logo it automatically shuts down. I tried again for several times with the same result then a blue screen with white writings on it was displayed on the screen (harddisk failure).
I bought a new Toshiba 500GB HDD and burned a new Windows 7 Ultimate x64 DVD to install a fresh new copy of it but i have faced the following:
1- when I power on the laptop it works normally.
2- I press F12 to choose the device to boot from (Boot from DVD)
3- It starts normally and a windows 7 screen appears with a loading bar. It is filled quickly in the first time then a new screen appears with a loading bar starts to fill but after around 75% of the loading bar is filled the laptop shuts down.
I tried to restart it for several times with the same result.

I make the following points to try to restart the laptop but always with the same result:
1- Remove the new HDD and then insert it
2- Remove the Rams and then insert them
3- Remove the battery and then insert it.

- Are you replacing the original laptop hard drive with the new Toshiba or is the Toshiba an external USB hard drive?
- Are you trying to clean install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 to the original laptop hard drive or to the new Toshiba?
- Where did you get the ISO file for Windows 7 Ultimate?

A:Ideapad 500s - Booting issue with USB connected

Hello woogdoe

Welcome to the forum,

By the sounds of it your pc may be stuck in the wrong boot mode (ie. boot from USB) so what i suggest is making sure you are in the right one. First you will need to access the BIOS then change the boot order. Follow the steps below to do this.

Turn off and use the Novo key (left side part number 7 page 9 )

It may also be like an indentation or a button and would need to use a pin to enable.
Check if you have the same on yours.  It has the USB port next to it.
When it turns on using that key, Novo Menu would show giving you the option for BIOS set up.

Follow this link below to change the boot order:-

So I've had my Lenovo laptop for about a year now, I believe the warranty on it is expired now. I don't want to spend money on what I think is a simple repair. When I was trying to clear my storage I fell asleep and my laptop died, it didn't get to properly clear the storage and shut down. Now whenever I try to load up my laptop, this message appears  (If you can't read the picture; The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart installation.) When I click OK, it loads and then the same message appears again. It's an endless loop. I looked up different videos telling me to fix this, I should disassemble the laptop, take out the battery, and hold the power button down for about 30 seconds. I wouldn't mind trying this approach, but I can't find a disassembly video specifically for my laptop and I don't want to damage even further or beyond repair. If that's what I need to do, then getting help here with it would be great. Then I tried opening the boot menu, I did this by pressing FN and F12 when turning on the computer. I wanted to try and run a diagnostics test to try and see what was wrong, but it only gave me these options and couldn't figure out how. I pressed enter on both of these options to see if it would fix this issue, nothing happened as far as I could tell.  I moved on from that to the InsydeH20 Setup Ut... Read more

Hello, My parents have owned a Lenovo laptop for a couple of years now. However, recently this issue showed up and I wondered whether there is a chance there is a solution to this problem which I could try myself, since the laptop its warranty already expired. If I recall correctly, the model of the laptop is the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 2, running Windows 10. So here is the issue; the laptop has issues turning on. Oddly enough, it is not a very consistent issue. Eventually, the laptop does turn on. The problem is that this sometimes takes hours, other times the laptop appears to be able to boot instantly as it normally would. I have no idea what affects this. When pressing the power button, the keyboard backlight starts flashing. It does this until the laptop completely boots, and as I said, the amount of time this takes varies. I already tried looking for solutions on different forums, but they usually concern the issue where the keyboard backlight flashed and the laptop simply will not boot at all, which is not the case here, as it eventually does but often it takes a while.Other solutions suggested a certain amount of flashes meant a certain issue or failure. Problem here is that the amount of flashes seem to be random, so it is not as if it just keeps looping a certain amount of flashes as it varies. This leaves me puzzled as to what could be the culprit. I am not sure what to do, especially since I have not owned a Windows-based machine in a whi... Read more

I purchased a Crucial 16GB DDR4 2400 SODIMM 1.2V CL17 RAM chip to upgrade my Lenovo IdeaPad 720S-14IKB which had an 8GB RAM chip. I did check the Crucial website beforehand that the CT16G4SFD824A chip would work, and indeed it said that it should. However, it does not work very well. To get the laptop to boot beyond BIOS post (and actually boot Windows), I have to first power it on, then hold the power button for 4 seconds to force shut it down and the hit the exact time to start it again (around 1 second after the power light goes off) to get it to boot. If I do not use this procedure, the screen will not turn on and the Lenovo logo will never show.  I think this is related to the BIOS training the memory chip or something like this, and the process described above circumvents this process. This is the only "semi-reliable" way I have found to boot the machine with this RAM. I have ran tests on the memory while in Windows, and everything seems to work as normal. I believe the problem might be some incompatibility with Lenovo BIOS and this RAM chip but I am unsure of how to proceed from here.  Does anyone have any tips for me, while I know how to get the machine to boot, it is very cumbersome and sometimes results in the need for Windows to "repair" itself which is not exactly great.

Since (automatically) downloading a windows 10 update and restarting twice, my laptop has refused to boot up. It won't boot normally, and using the novo button either gives me boot/BIOS/setup options, or sends me to windows repair, though I have to spend anywhere bewteen 10-60 minutes looking at the lenovo logo before this actually happens. I've tried a number of different bios and boot changes to no avail (though I will admit that I've been following advice fromforums etc, and not all of them match up to what I'm seeing on my own screen). Attempting any of the Windows repair options just restarts the computer and ends up back at windows repair. Going back to the previous version fails, as does attempting to repair problems. Changing restart options dosn't actually let me (dis)able anything from that screen, and instead says that it will let me upon restarting (it doesn't). I've also drained my battery (until even the LED battery doesn't flash when attempting to turn on), unplugged my laptop, and held the power button for 10, 20, and 30 seconds. I don't have any restore points saved and I really don't want to do a clean install or a system reset, as I have a couple of weeks worth of work that I would really like to save (I try and backup once a month, more fool me I suppose). I don't really care about fixing this laptop as it's done this after only a little over a year (the fastest I've ever had a laptop fail!). Hi

I got a 2nd hand Lenovo Ideapad 100S. It came with Win10 installed but had someone elses profile and data.
(I am not sure if it originally had Win8.1 when it was shipped, there is no rollback option anymore)

My preference is to wipe the current installation completely by downloading Win10 and installing a clean copy off USB.

I also usually prefer to delete all partitions, including recovery because future reinstallations can be done from scratch via USB. (I don't need the option of reinstalling from recovery partitions , the extra space is more important)

I see a warning in the user guide however .....
"Do not delete or modify the Recovery Partition on a WIMBoot-enabled computer. If the Recovery Partition is deleted or modified, you may not be able to restore Windows to the factory status. For computer models on which WIMBoot is enabled, deleting the Recovery Partition may cause Windows to fail to start. How can I determine whether the Windows running on my computer is WIMBoot enabled? WIMBoot technology is normally enabled on copies of Windows 10 Update running on SSD (or eMMC) -only computer models."

What is the best way to do this?

Install a clean copy and remove the partition by booting off a USB, or should I not do this?

A:Ideapad 100s - Win10 clean installation on ideapad...

 Hi larrens ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It's a good thing you posted first before proceeding with any clean installation.
Not sure what the Machine Number is to verify the details and specifications of your system.

But if you have a pc with a Windows Image Boot (or WIMBoot) you may not want to choose a clean installation.
This new deployment of installation is compressing part of a big OS file so that you can have an operating system that can only take small spaces intended for small storages (SSD).

Best option to wipe out previous owners profile is a have a fresh out of the box image is using the Puch button Factory reset (Novo key similar to Item 7 page 1). Simply shutdown the system and use the button to turn on, System Recovery option would provide One key recovery from initial backup to do it.

WIM boot are usually created thru OEM depot authorized by Microsoft . DIY for WIMboot maybe a bit complicated.

First thing to do is run an extended (NOT just 10 minute) diagnostic on the hard drive.  If you need further assistance, post the results of that (numeric error codes) along with the full model information - i.e., Inspiron N5110, XPS L501x, etc.).

Press F12 a few times immediately after powering on to get into the diagnostics.

Hi,
I just got a ASUS G75V series and updated it to windows 7 professional with Intel core i7.
I was able to work with it and everything was fine until I had to install XP because some softwares are not compatible with Win 7 x64.
I have Win 7 on drive C: and windows xp on drive E: which in windows XP environment it is shown as drive C: again(I have two HDDs, 500GB each).

So as you can predict I tried using the dual booting and followed the tutorial for that on the website, I wasn't able to get it to work exactly and each time I had to change the bios settings to boot either win 7 or win XP,

I downloaded easyBCD and was trying to get it to work but my silly mistake was I Reset BCD configuration under BCD backup/repair tab and ever since I haven't been able to load windows 7 and the laptop directly loads windows xp.

I ran easyBCD in windows xp and tried to fix the problem by adding the bootloader for windows 7 there but nothing seems to work.

I am really stuck and I can not reinstall windows 7 because it is set up with all the softwares for my work

A:Issue booting Win 7, booting directly into XP & no boot manager

It sounds like you have the OS's installed on two separate HD's, and were booting them correctly via the BIOS - setting preferred one first to boot in BIOS setup, then booting the other one using the one-time BIOS Boot menu key.

To restart Win7 unplug all other HD's, Mark the 100mb System Reserved (preferred) or Win7 Partition Active then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times.

Once Win7 starts, plug back in the XP HD and boot it using the Asus F8 one-time BIOS Boot Menu key, or install EasyBCD to Win7 to add XP on its Add OS entry tab.

things I have done to try to fix this:
Updated BIOS
Enabled Virtualization in BIOS

Hi Ronnie and welcome to the Forum.

Why don't you try this. It is easier and it works: VMware Player - Install Windows 8

Recently I purchased a laptop with windows 8 64 bit pre-installed in it. For my job purpose, I needed windows 7 32 bit. After searching the web and also using the information I got from this site, I disabled secure boot, deleted the recovery partition and converted GPT partitions to MBR. Then I shrink the Big partition in which windows 8 was installed to make room for the windows 7 partition. Then I created a new partition and installed windows 7 on it. After this whenever I switch on the computer, a message come up, saying that a required device cannot be found and windows is to be repaired. The only way in which I can start windows is to go to bios, select the boot options and then select boot from notebook hard drive.

Can anybody please tell me how this problem can be solved

A:Booting problem with dual booting with windows 8 and 7

when you created the new partition did you make itin front or behind the existing partition?

If your boot manager is looking to boot Win 8 on Disk 0 Part 1, and you created the new partition in front of Win 8, your Win 7 will now be located on Disk 0 Part 1 which is where the boot manager is expecting Win 8

can you send us a screen cap of your disk management?

Hello there, occassional lurker, first time poster, hopefully someone here will be able to help

I've been setting my laptop to dual boot xp pro, and Ubuntu on a seperate partition. All was going well, until xp decided to die altogther. I don't have that error to hand, but it's gone a little further now.

Was going to install xp pro on a 3rd partition, and it started up fine. Now I can boot fine to Ubuntu, and the 2nd version of xp. However, the original xp is still having issues.

Now, when booting up, gets BSOD - bad_pool_caller. Code at the end is: 0x000000c2 (0x00000007,0x00000CD4,0x00000060,0x86F7E1FC)

Everything I've read suggests this is talking about a hardware or software conflict. However, I've not installed any new hardware. I suspect there is a software conflict between the two versions of xp, but I can't see how that can happen.

I can boot into the 1st copy of xp in safe mode, however, explorer.exe fails to start up. Tried running it in task manager to no avail.

I forgot to add - I am using GNU GBRUB to boot between the 3 operating systems.

EDIT 2: Tried it again to boot 1st xp in safe mode - new error for windows product activation - a problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the licence for this computer error code 0x800004005

Are these installations of XP Pro on the two partitions diferent install disks with separate key codes?

I have a SONY PC (RX-580) and it is not booting on an erratic basis. The first problem was after pushing the start button, the fan starts on high speed, but no activity light and no HD light came on at all. AFter 1.5 minutes or so, I rebooted after removing the power cord for 30 seconds. This happened 8 times today. I should mention that during this time, nothing comes on screen at all. There is no opportunity to get to the CMOS settings or even to boot with a floopy. (yes this still has a floppy drive in it.) Normally, for the past several months, this problem has simply been an inconvenience and after 2 or 3 tries, the unit boots up fine and works fine all day. Today, when it failed to do this so many times, I shut it down, opened the case and proceeded to reset all cables and connections. I didn't notice any loose connections. I didn't remove ram sticks. I then rebooted and this time, I got the HD light activity for a few seconds, then the fan slowed to a normal level as like everything was going to be okay. After a few minutes, the activity light was still lit, but no flickering like something was happening.

I turned the machine off again. I should mention that each time I turned the machine off, I didn't have to hold the button in for the normal 5 seconds. It turned of immediately.

I once again, inspected and reseated cards. I did not remove RAM sticks. This time, I plugged in and booted and right away, got a 3 or 4 second solid warning tone, follow... Read more

I partitioned hard drive and everything. Then I installed XP Pro and Vista. Then I updated both and whatnot. I was on Vista then I restarted and booted into XP. Now when I try to boot into Vista it gets to the loading screen then it just restarts. I can still boot into XP fine.

Also I have lost all access to my BIOS. Does anybody know how to get that back?
