Solved: Why does it take a second click on a link to speed up a web page download?

Q: Solved: Why does it take a second click on a link to speed up a web page download?

I have noticed in recent weeks that my computer has developed a trend towards slower web page downloading. It used to only be milliseconds or a couple seconds at most (majority of times) to make a change. Now it can take up to several seconds (over ten seconds sometimes) to complete my page changes. You should know that I use a Firefox browser.

What I have learned that I can do to speed up the process is to either manually close down the selection and re-enter it, or just click on the link a second time in some cases, and the page usually comes up immediately. Interestingly this second attempt works whether I do it almost immediately, or wait a few or several seconds, so it gives the impression that somehow it is releasing whatever it is that's blocking or slowing the download.

If anyone recognizes this behavior or has an idea what may be causing the inordinate increase in page change delay, or perhaps even more significantly why the second click is so effective, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Note: I regularly clean my browser cache and registry with CCleaner.....more than once a day, depending on how much activity, especially pictorial or video, that I'm engaged in.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yeah for a few months now I have noticed an odd thing. More often than not I have to click the link again and again to get the page to load. Even have to click on refresh if I am already on a webpage. The pages are getting stuck loading. This is odd cause it happens on both of my computers. I thought it might be the router so I plugged this computer directly into the cable modem. Didn't matter it still happens. I have a fast connection and besides surfing the web I have no trouble talking on chat programs and such so I know my connection is solid. I reset the cable modem and still the same thing. I tried IE, Firefox and Opera and all 3 do the same thing. Getting baffled by this issue. I keep both computers regularly cleaned with Superantispyware, Malwarebytes, CCleaner and AVG free. I use ZoneAlarm Firewall as well. Here is a couple pics of what I mean. This just happened when I tried to get on Techguy.org. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. It took 3 tries to get to Techguy.org. Sometimes it takes more times clicking the link on google or refreshing til the pages finally get to the site I want to. Odd stuff. Here are the pic's.

When I'm on the main/first page and put my cursor on a link (cursor won't turn into hand) then when I click it just started saying Opp's then top left circle spins then goes to a page to download something I don't want or bogus.

Another big problem, certain words will be highlighted and a window pop's up (different windows) and want allow me to go to the webpage I want.

This has been happening sense I purchased my new computer wit Win.8

Example: the words on the page highlighted is where I want to go, but a small window pops up and says Best cities to work or Free Local Job Search. Its has a icon to close the windows but when I do it will go to another download type page.

Is there a setting in IE or Firefox to turn that problem OFF ?

I have a peculiar issue with wifi on Windows 10. My computer shows a wifi link speed of 270 Mbps and i have tested the same by sending huge files over my network. Now the issue is that i strongly believe that something in Windows 10 is throttling the internet speeds drastically. I am only getting half of the subscribed download speeds on my Windows 10. I have other devices/phones connected to the same wireless network and they are getting full speeds!

I have tried several things but i am unable to achieve full download speeds on my Windows 10. This has been affecting me for the past around 15 days. Prior to that things used to be normal.

Any clue guys? Because if nothing works then i may have to downgrade to Windows 7

Hi guys. I hope you can help on this issue I've been having with my internet connection, I don't know what to do...

I resently formatted my harddrive because my internet all of a sudden started being very slow but after the format it's still the same issue. Now I've tried plugging the connection line into my laptop and there there's no problem.

I am gettin' a slower download than upload...

I have a 10mb download/1 upload speed LAN connection. I ran a speed test on the same connection and on my stationary it shows like 250 kbs download and like 750 kbs upload, while on my laptop it shows like 8 Mbs download and 750 kbs upload... so what's the problem?

So far I've found out that it has nothing to do with the internet connection line or my NIC (I tried a brand new one and it was the same issue), it's not spyware or malware, it's not fragmented and under internet connections it says that I'm connected on a 100 Mb network card and there are no problems with any of the devices?

However I can see that if I open the job list, the download connection is very unstable going from up to 750 kb for a breif moment then falls to a halt at 0 kb... and moreover it says that I'm not using any percent of the network?

I'm on windows 7 and haven't had any problems before this, the rest of the system works just fine, but not the internet. If I try and download something it won't get higher than like 50 kb and then may... Read more

I have this very annoying problem and I'm really out of hopes. I don't know what to do anymore. I'll make a summary of the problem and will be as concise as possible

So I have this Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop with a broadband connection (direct cable, no router) and 3 weeks ago I reinstalled my Windows. Everything went well until 2 weeks ago when the internet speed went down, dial-up like. Pages won't load, and if they do they load just partially. I called my ISP and they said they had no problem. I couldn't find any solution so I thought maybe, some sort of virus or spyware is doing this so I formated the whole hard-disk and did a clean install of Windows.

Unfortunatelly nothing changed, the download speed is the same. Here is a speedtest.net evaluation:

Drivers are up to date, no windows firewall, no antivirus and no windows update. The ISP support guy told me to deactivate IPv4 and IPv6 from Local Area Connection, but nothing changed. I did a TCP/IP reset which raised my down speed to almost 1 Mb, but after a few minutes it went back to "dial-up". With the down speed being the same, Speedtest sometimes shows me upload speed in between 50-70 Mb which is unbelievable (I will make a ss next time I see this).

And the very weird thing is that I have another netbook (pretty weak config, Intel Atom CPU, 2 GB RAM) and with the same cable it has normal speed (the kind of speed I had on this Dell too). An... Read more

I currently have high speed internet through frontier, but I am coming to realize how slow the connection is. The average download speed is approximately 4 to 7 KB/sec, which seems to me to be ridiculously slow. I have a DSL Modem and DIR-655 Router, and everything is slow (it was like this before we had the router as well, so that is not the problem). I was simply wondering if there is a reason that downloads are so slow; my computer in general is very fast (it is only a few months old), but the internet is just plain down slow at downloads. Is this my server or is that speed pretty common? (Or is there something else that I might not be aware of)

If you go into task manger and then the networking tab, what does the 'link speed' mean?
Is that interent speed? Because if it is i can download a movie in 10 seconds??
I am just curious- here is a photo of my task manger and speedtest.net

A:Solved: Wireless "Link Speed'?

Thats the speed of your internal network - the speed of the internet will be upto whatever deal you paid for -
Whats your download speed from your ISP ?
try this http://www.speedtest.net/
My taskmanager says 54Mbps - which is the max speed of my wireless G adapter in my Sony Laptop
Wireless G = 54Mbps
So you must be using a N router with a N adapter - is that correct ?
the speed of the wireless is NOT the speed of the internet
Even though I have a N router and my Sony with a G Adapter I'm running at 54Mbps - that only applies to the network speed - between PCs and NAS etc -

BUT my maximum internet speed is 2M download, because that all I pay for , and usually get just under that speed 1.9ish

I installed mozilla because I was told it is less open to attacks than windows explorer.

Do I need to erase windows explorer from my computer or just not use it, in order to benefit from its less vulnerability to attacks.
If I have to remove it how do I do so.

I am using outlook express for my e mail. When I click on to open a web site from an e mail, my e mail opens the web site using windows explorer not mozillla how do I change this, so it will open a web site with mozilla.

Do I need to do anything else to protect myself from windows explorer vulernabilities.

A:Solved: How do I make mozilla my browser when I click onto a link in an email

To make Mozilla the default browser,

Click on:
Tools/Options/General button/Default Browser Check

Check that box then shut down Mozilla and restart it. You will now be asked if you want Mozilla to be the Default Browser, select yes.

You will still need to use IE to access some sites (Like Windows Update etc)
So I would leave it on there for those occassions you need it.

I hope one of you guru's can help me as I am getting close to having to backup and wipe and rebuild. I suspect the source was an e-mail that had a size of 676k but was blank and had no attachments, it seized my outlook until I logged into my mail server and deleted it. Everything went back to normal except for my system running a little slower and IE7 when I search with Google, Yahoo etc all appears as normal except when you chose to follow a link when you go through a redirect of http://www.starfeed2.com/feed/click.php the end up somewhere else not directly related I have run scans with
McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 8.5.0i
Spybot Search and destroy 1.5.2
Windows Live OneCare Beta for Vista (Crashed the system twice by the way!)

I was shocked to find a few infections but these were removed and I rebooted but the hijack is still there.

I am running Vista 32 on an IBM x61 Thinkpad dual core.

I have run HijackThis and have a log file, attached.

Many thanks for reading this far and please help!

Recently, I reinstalled my Netgear wna3100 driver. Ever since then, I've been experiencing problems with high pings in games where I normally never had problems with. Pages load slowly even just the home page of Google.

I've attached my ipconfig picture. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:High download speed and signal, high ping in games, slow page loads

To Disable Selective Suspend:

open the control panel
go to power options (you may have to set view to small icons)
click change plan settings
in the window that opens:
click change plan settings
click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.

I would also (while the device is plugged in)
go into the control panel - system - device manager - click the properties for it and make sure it's set to always on there as well.
I don't think the ipconfig can tell us much here since it's a data rate problem of some sort and not a actual connection problem from the sound of it.

The two things I mention above will hopefully keep your system from putting the device in 'low power mode' which may , or may not help your current problem.

I'm also curious if your system has recently slowed down in any other ways?

Hi All

All of a sudden whenever I click on a web page link in OE, nothing happens. Is there a setting that I need to make that will allow me to go to a web page by clicking on a link in OE. Also I have Zone Alarm and Spyblocker; do I need to set a setting in these programs to allow me to do this? Thanks for replies in advance.

A:Solved: Can't get to web page by clicking on link in OE:

One or more of the following DLLs might be improperly registered.

1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll and then click OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

5. Repeat, substituting each of these additional DLLs:
Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)

Also try IE->Tools->Internet Options->Programs Tab.
Click Reset web settings button.

If that doesn't work:
For Windows version (Win 98/ME/2000/XP) - Download iefix:

It is a general purpose repair utility for Internet Explorer which repairs Internet Explorer by registering it's core DLL files. Additionally if it detects Windows 2000/XP as the Operating System, it runs SFC to restore missing or corrupt Windows system files.

I'm have Windows 98 SE and recently upgraded to IE 6.0.

There's an important web page that I always go to that has a link to another website that times out when I try to go there. I tried to copy the link and paste into a new window.....No luck. Had no problem with IE 5.5.

I contacted the web site owners...they say nothing is wrong with the link. I contacted my ISP.....they can't help me.

I tried Netscape and Opera and the same happens.

I've deleted all cookies, history, temp files, looked for damaged downloaded files in windows, lowered security levels, and repaired IE.

Tried to restore previous IE, but the option isn't there in the internet repair tool.

My other option is to delete IE 6.0 with IEradicator, then install IE 5.5 SP2, which I downloaded. But, I'm not quite sure I want to. If I understand right, it will delete Outlook Express along with it. I backed up Outlook Express, but I'm afraid I will lose all my messages and rules I have made. And, I don't know if this will even solve the problem since it happens in any browser.

I don't know enough about timeouts and how to correct them.
I did try to ping the home page and it timed out, even though I was able to acess it in IE.

Please help.....I don't know what to do....I need to access that web page.

A:[SOLVED] IE 6.0 Web Page Link Times Out

Hiya and welcome

Can you tell us the name of the site?

Lets see if this will work:

Click on Start>Find>Files, key in Hosts and press enter. You're looking for a file called just Hosts with no file extension. You'll find a file called Hosts.sam but that's not the problem. If you do find a file called just Hosts, rename it Hosts.old and then try the pages. Be sure to close all instances of IE before you retry the pages.

Using frontpage how do I upload a video file to my site, so then I can give my friends the url link and have them download the video file? Thanks...

A:(Solved) Front Page Video link

Just upload the file into it's own directory (easier to find but not essential) and send your friends index.html/video/myvideo.mov (or whatever you call it). When your friend click on the link it will go directly to the video. I'm assuming you already have a website and know how to upload.

I'm not positive this is a Windows 7 problem but it's the category that seems to fit: When attempting to open a link (online help) from Trend Security, instead of going to a web-page, a read only Word document opens. I had the same problem a few days ago when attempting to follow a link to a web -page from my email (Incredimail), but was able to resolve the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling Incredimail. The Word document is a 'dead end', as any attempt to access information within the document results in an error message 'This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator'. Anyone have any idea as to what the problem might be?? Update ............I now find when attempting to open an application from my desk-top, once again a Word doc opens.

Whenever Microsoft Automatic Updates come to my computer...it screws up my IE 7 so whenever I click a link that goes to a .pdf file or click an e-mail link on a web page IE starts the process and then completely closes everything. If I reinstall an older version of IE (without tabs) all works fine. And sometimes...if i reinstall the newer version (with tabs) it seems to fix the problem. I also run RegCure to help cleanup. But after the latest auto updates...these cures don't seem to be working. The older version IE6 works fine..it's only with the newer IE & that this happens. Thanks

A:IE7 closes when I click a .pdf link or e-mail link

I don't use IE7, but does it have a Manage Add-ons in the Tools menu?

Check for the Adobe Reader add-on. I assume you have it already installed.

Also, check Adobe and see if there is a version/update for IE7.
