envy m6 ultrabook touch won't turn on

Q: envy m6 ultrabook touch won't turn on

I have an envy m6 touchscreen that is giving me problems that i can't solve. It has been great up until recently. i was using my laptop last nite when suddenly it turned off but i didn't think that the battery shoukd have been dead yet. its acting as if the bat is empty and plugging it in just turn on the orange led by the power plug. when i press the power button it flashes for a second but the screen does nothing and it doesn't actually turn on.I'm using my phone to attempt to find a solution atm which is very frustrating. adding to the stress is the fact that i have school work projects and a midterm project on it that I need to finish.Almost forgot to mention it started doing a few other odd things over the last week such as the touchscreen going nuts registering phantom touches endlessly until i close/hibernate/shutdown it.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There's probably a sticky for this somewhere or something, but I can't find it, so here goes.

Just got a new laptop which came with windows 8, It's an Asus Zenbook UX302LG. I tried Windows 8 a bit during the developer preview, but I'm really not that familiar with things, anywho. So this has a touch screen, and I've been using it a fair bit, but I'm curious about 8.1. Being the "newer" version", from what I've seen it has some improvements over regular 8 in some areas, like the apps screen looks a little tidier. What I'm wondering though is does it also remove some of the touch features I would be using with a touch screen? Or just make them more mouse friendly. Long story short, given I have a touch screen which I am using, should I upgrade to Windows 8.1? Or will I have a better experience with regular 8?

A:Windows 8 or 8.1 on Touch Screen Ultrabook

You should upgrade IMO. You certainly will not lose any touch capabilities.

Features shown in Compare Windows 8.1 Editions where it says (new) are not available on 8.

I have an XPS 13 with a touch monitor.  My wife liked it so much I bought her one.  Her sister liked it also and we bought her one.  Occasionally at boot up (1 in 10 times) the touch monitor won't respond to 'touches.'  Pressing any key (or the mouse pad) brings me to the password screen and I 'Restart' the computer and the touch screen function works.  This happens on all three computers.  I've never seen this problem posted but I find it hard to believe we three are the only one's having this issue.

If your touch screen is not responding to your touch, try this:try looking at Device Manager,  if there's a yellow-flagged item and/or no driver for touch screen under HID (human interface device)  then you have to add it. click on the yellow flag item, tell it to update driver from list from your computer,   go to Generic drivers, not the Acer ones, choose the one that's called HID touch screen,  update it,  restart, and there you go.check another post here on this forum,  from scotsman.  he gives the steps maybe a little better than I do..Acer tech supoort were useless, as usual,  and told me I had to do a Restore.  They are worse than useless, actually, since they waste tons of your time and then all they can tell you is to do a complete restore. When will Acer ever get decent tech support people? When you look at Amazon reviews, for example, under my particular laptop,  you find over a hundred reviews,  large percent being rather negative,  but you'll notice that it's mostly over bad experiences with Acer tech support.   and this is for a thousand dollar machine !!I personally believe that Acer makes good hardware but what's holding them back is their tech support:  it's horrible !!!

Hello, I own a HP envy 6-1100sg and recently its front frame got broken in a way that I can no longer close the lid without causing the display to detach from the plastic frame. I would like to know wether these plastic frames are available for purchasing somewhere or if I could use another's laptop front frame to replace mine. Here some pictures do ilustrate what I a trying to describe:1. if I try to close the lid, the screen will detach from the frame 2. The piece that rotates the plastic frame/lid while opening and closing the lid seems to be broken too. I would really appreciate any help or directions on how to solve this problem since there is no HP technical support near the region where I live.Thank you in advance. Best regards, Matheus Vieira.

I have 2 issues that came up at about the same time, best I can tell.  I scoured the internet to try to find solutions, but nothing has worked.  *not sure if I have 32 bit or 64 bit Windows 10* Problem 1: The computer shuts down immediately after unplugging cord, even when it shows there is a charge on the battery indicator. Problems 2: The battery indicator shows "plugged in, not charging." I ran the battery test through the HP Support Assistant, which shows the battery is working fine, but needs to be calibrated. I tried going into the device manager>battery> and then uninstall the two listed items, power down, unplug cord, remove battery, power up without the battery, check to see if the two battery items are reinstalled (they were), power down, remove cord.  reinstall battery, and power up.  Both problems are still there. The battery power is slowly dwindling, since it has not been charging and  has gone from about 50% when I first notice the issue to 37 %.  I am trying to be economical on powering the unit back up while figuring out a solution and have it shut down currently. I also tried a system restore as far back as it would go, but that did nothing to help. Thank you for your help. John

Battery not detected shows up one day so I order a replacement off of ebay.  Same deal with the replacement battery.  Convinced the seller the first was DOA and they sent another.  The 2nd did the same thing.  Wondering if the 3rd party battery is the problem.  Scoured the forums about the issue and tried the usual remedies like hard resets, removal and resinstalling and countless reboots in between.  Still no joy.  looked on HP site for an OEM battery and saw none.  Is there a genuine HP replacement battery available for my model?  If not, I may be out of luck, as I can't seem to get this not detected situation fixed.  So much for portable computing, eh?  Any help would be much appreciated.  Cheers!

Hello, I have had my laptop for over 2 years now. I have really been taking a great care of it and I have been more than satisfied with it until this week. One of the hinges suddenly cracked open. I did not drop it nor did I cause the damage. It really worries me that the hinge practically broke by itself and it seems as it is a common problem. I cannot close my laptop and I am afraid that my screen will get damaged if I don't get it fixed asap. And I really need my laptop for college and for work. I would love to hear from HP team on how to solve this problem quickly. So far I  have always recommended HP to my friends and I hope I will not have to change my opinion about it. Thank you for your consideration,Joanna

I purchased my HP Envy on 8/24/2012. About a year later one of the hinges broken and began to pull the screen apart and crack the piece that borders the screen. I spoke with HP about this and they told me these hinges were known to be bad and that they would repair my laptop for FREE. My laptop got fixed and has since had no problems, until this afternoon when A HINGE BROKE and cracked the casing around the screen and now wires are exposed and the frame is torn. It can no longer be closed and is not portable. It happend all at once, I closed my laptop this morning and when I opened it this afternoon, it broke. Anyone have any ideas how to fix it? An online video for repair, where to buy hinges? etc. I called HP and the representative told me that they WOULD NOT repair the piece, even for a charge, because when a lap top is 4 years or older they get rid of the parts to repair them? Seems incredibly odd to me... I am a graduate student about to start the last week of my semester and am incredibly upset that HP appears unwilling to provide support to someone who has faithfully used HP products, especially in the new age of Macbooks.

The left hinge on my Envy Spectre XT ultrabook has broken.  I have looked after my laptop meticulously (after all, it cost a lot of money) and there is no reason for the hinge breaking.  The warranty has expired but it seems to me that HP has some responsibility for repair given the shoddy nature of the hinge.  I always thought HP produced quality products but the hinges are only plastic - what can I do now?

I've been on the AMD 14.4 for some time, any attempt to remove/upgrade to 14.9 results in a black screen where I can only view the mouse cursor for about 2 seconds until it disappears and then reappears. I've also tried updating some of the Windows essentials software to a newer version and once again I was greeted with a black screen after a few flashes. I'm a bit stuck currently and I'm not sure what to do, any advice would be wonderful.

Also, the only way out of the predicaments is to reset then boot up with F11 to system restore, otherwise it remains on a black screen and doesn't move.

Errors I sometimes see when it comes to black screen are error 0x06d007e at location 0x2abc606c, also mentions HP Remote User if I can remember correctly, hope this can be of some use.

Here's my debug zip file. Attachment 54373

Bonus: Also, does anyone know why my laptop is so inept at playing some games? Sometimes it runs smoothly, then it just starts stuttering even on the lowest settings and settles down after a while again. It shouldn't be overheating because the games aren't on for that long surely?

You have a SAMSUNG Mobile USB Remote NDIS Network Device:

I do not recommend using wireless USB network devices. Especially in Win8/8.1 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7 and later systems - using older drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have the latest Win8/8.1 drivers - DO NOT use older drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

This device has problems in Device Manager:

I am working with an HP ENVY 4t-1200 CTO Ultrabook, which is about to send me to the insane asylum! The laptop has been upgraded to Windows 10 for some time period now and has been operating perfectly.  There are no software packages out of the ordinary installed; same as hardware.  All updates and packages are regularly installed. The issue with this laptop is a loop that it gets stuck in during the boot cycle.  Everything performs normally until just after the wallpaper goes up and the task bar is drawn.  After this, the screen begins to flash in different places at various times.  You cannot click on icons, pushing the Windows button does nothing....  The only thing that you can do is CTRL + ALT + D to restart or open the system resources and performance information. When opening the system performance window, you can easily observe that the utilization of the HDD and Memory fluctuate wildly between 40% to as high as 96%.  After some additional poking around, I find in the system resources panel I observe that explorer.exe constantly being started and terminated one right after another. Since the laptop is stuck in a loop that I haven't found a way to exit, at this point it is not possible, to my knowledge, I decided to go ahead and use the tools that are available when pressing SHIFT + Click-RESTART. When trying to perform a system repair, another loop is entered and the message displayed is that the system ... Hello Community, Recently I've been having an issue with my notebook's wireless, I'll try to summarize, so please let me know if more information is required. I've had my HP Envy for almost one year, so far, no issues. I got the windows 10 update last year and mostly, everything is usually fine. A few months ago I bought a Smart TV (a LED TCL 32 inch, nothing fancy). Reading the specs, I saw that it supports miracast, so I tried it with my HP Envy. At first, it worked perfectly then, a few hours later it suddenly stopped working, It seems like both the notebook and the TV can "see" each other, but are unable to sync, so it fails to connect every time. But that is not the main issue (although it may be related to it). Ever since the miracast stopped working, whenever I turn on the TV, even if not on discovery mode or smart mode, I just lose the wireless connection on my notebook (the TV remains online and so does everything else in the room that requires wireless connection), it just doesn't work for me, until I turn off the TV. It's driving me crazy and it is quite annoying having to ask to turn off the TV every time I need to use my notebook. I have all the latest drivers installed (and I've even ran a Windows 10 reset to defaults) still, the issue remains. Any suggestion? Thanks!

I literally have had this laptop for 2 days. I disregarded this the first day but now on day 2 my screen goes crazy. It looks like a child is going crazy messing with the touch screen and opening things and zooming in while I'm watching netflix or anything. I have never seen a laptop with a touch screen do this before. There are random dots popping up also. I calibrated it and updated everything and it still does this. The lock screen with even shake and when I try to type my password it types then erases it then the touch type pops up. It takes me 5 minutes to unlock the computer when ut should only take 5 seconds. This is driving me crazy. Does anyone know what is going on? Or am I the only one who has this problem...

Hello I have owned a HP ENVY m6-p113dx for a little over a year now, and the touch screen has worked fine up until about a month ago. One day, the F keys stoped working for unknown reasons. I went to the official HP support website and found the following article:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02035108 It didn't do anything the first try, but the second time my F keys were fixed. Ever since then, the touchscreen has been disabled and refuses to function properly no matter what I do. I tried looking at ways to fix it on the HP website again, and the multiple solutions it has given me that I've tried ended in my computer sending me an error saying that it doesn't have a built in touch screen. I have no idea how or why it's broken, but if anyone could help me fix this problem it would be highly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time, and have a great day!

Mt HP laptop has seemingly gotten so sensitive to static electricity that it repeatedly shuts down to a dark screen nearly every time I sit at my desk. I try to ground myself and even put a grounded pad beneath my laptop, and while better, I have trouble using my laptop anywhere else. I replaced my battery and put a humidifier in the room to little avail. I've got two other laptops that work normally at the same desk with all other factors being the same. Anyone have any ideas to help me?

If anyone is thinking of buying an HP Envy all in one touch screen computer then DON'T do it! I bought one less than 9 months ago. The touchscreen failed and rendered the whole computer inoperable. It took several hours on the phone to get them to agree to take it in for repair. After three weeks they claimed to have repaired it and sent it back. They changed all the settings and locked them so I could not put the settings back to how they were. I don't like working on a black screen with white writing!! It took another couple of hours on the phone to get them to fix it. Now less than two months later the exact same problem with the touchscreen has arisen again. It has taken two days to get them to agree to take it back in for repair. They cannot collect it until next Thursday. It will take another two weeks after that before it's repaired and returned to me. I am really really disappointed with this machine and warranty service especially so as it was very expensive!

Hi, I have a HP 23" Envy touch smart all-in-one pc (model 23-d055). The screen cracked but the replacement part for the touchscreen (MT9D231C55102) is very expensive. There is one that is less expensive but the connections are not located in the same spot. Unfortunately I don't have the experience to figure it out. Is it possible to get a replacement screen that is compatible without the touch feature? If so, would you by chance know the part number?

So these are two pictures of my laptop and Im not sure what the problem is. Up until two days ago my laptop was fine and now it looks like this anytime I open it and then close it. I'm scared to even move it from my desk but I kind of need to seeing as I'm in college full time. Is there a way that this can be fixed or does anyone know why this is happening. I take great care of my laptop seeing as my entire life is on them for college and work. I need a remedy if there is one and fast because I have classes to get to and need my laptop. Any advise would be appreciated or if HP would like to fix it I would be happy about that too.

I dont recall when the issue has occured, but it has been a while since my touch screen has worked. It weird because under pen and touch it states that there is no inout for pen or touch when clearly my computer's touch screen once worked. What should I do to bring the once beloved feature back? Thank you for your help!

After a windows auto update my touchscreen no longer responds. I think it is a driver issue. My windows is INSISTING that the best driver is this generic driver from 2006. The display also shows up in the wrong place in the device manager. It's not in the HID list. I'm also having issues with the wireless since an update. It, for lack of a better term, stutters. Other devices will connect just fine and stay connected. But this laptop will drop the connection or simply not 'see' the network. Any help is appreciated.
