I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've search the forums and seen several posts that have similar issues, but all seemed to be resolved using steps I've already taken.  I'm helping a friend fix his h8-1414. Originally came with Windows 8.0 and was eventually upgraded to Windows 10.  At some point after the Windows 10 upgrade, the video card died and he replaced it with newer Radeon card.  Since that time he's had issues with Windows 10 - to the point that it crashed and wouldn't boot.  To resolve the issue and "start fresh" I backed up his files and did a system restore (complete reset).  At the end of the reinstallation (of Windows 8) I got some kind of error saying that Windows was unable to complete installation and to reboot to complete installation.  I did that and things seemed to work fine.  I got to the Windows 8 desktop only to discover that Windows 8 won't activate. I double-checked and I reset all the CMOS/BIOS settings back to factory default and followed the procedure above one more time - just to make sure there wasn't some kind of Legacy Mode issue.  But I've had the same results...Windows will not activate. Control Panel > Windows Activation shows "Current edition" as Windows 8 and Current product key as "*****-8FDHT".  But says Windows isn't activated. In the Activation details I see error code 0xC004C003 and a message that says "The activation sever determined the specified p... @Maetrix?, welcome to the forum. I don't know why MS is telling you to come to HP.  The Product Key for Win 8 is embedded in the BIOS at the request of MS.  HP does not have the ability to Activate any OS.  Changing the video card shouldn't have anything to do with the problem.  However, who knows what the activation software take into consideration.  I suggest contacting MS again to see if you get a Customer Rep who will help you. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Hi,I have a HP Envy 17 laptop, it was bought with Windows 8, I updated it to Windows 10 last year.Due to progressing issues, I factory reset it, taking me back to Windows 8.After the reset (which ran smoothly), it requires me to input a new product key. I was not aware that I'd have to puchase a new one.I've attached a printscreen of the system window which states that my window is not activated. And this below is a screenshot of the details in Windows ActivationWhat can I do now? I cannot get hold of the original product key on the box.Any help will be much appreciated.

Hello, Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting. Almost all threats (if not all) can be eliminated should you have the time, knowledge and persistence to combat it. If you do not want to factory reset your PC but want to attempt to fix it, I may be able to assist you with this. If you prefer recovery/reset, the procedure is called HP Recovery.HP computers which have Windows preinstalled on them (a.k.a. OEM Windows version) have partitions which contain an image of OS, drivers, software and can be helpful in tough moments - to restore your PC to factory default condition. Here is a video example >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6bGr3EgEI0Here are official instructions >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643  Let me know if this works for you. Hello mparker and welcome to Seven Forums.

I believe that in order to access the hidden recovery partition on an HP computer you need to keep clicking one of the function keys (F7, F8, etc on top row of keyboard) as soon as you apply power to the computer. This HP article explains how to perform a system recovery on computers that shipped with Windows 7.

recently i upgraded my acer laptop to windows 10 .After using for a week and so i starting having problems with it my disk usage started showing 100% although i was not doing any task.
so i decided to switch back to my original windows 7 through acer e-recovery management . Now the issue is that i can not perform factory reset . when ever i click on that i generally get an error that i need to clean all my files from hard disk as it will not perform the task , although i have no files on my laptop as i took a backup of my files and deleted them from the laptop.
I am unable to understand what is the issue

A:How to i reset my laptop to factory setting

The process is different among the different brands and not having an Acer can't advise as to what theirs is. However, if you have nothing on it you want to keep you should be able to continue with a full factory restore, should be a prompt to do so. I've found in a similar situation that having made the discs when prompted was easier than doing it from a backup process.

A:Unable to Factory reset HP 2000 Notebook PC

Raines Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! If you're hearing a "clicking" sound and not seeing any progress in the reset, my guess is that you hard drive has died -- as it will produce that sound when the seek process fails repeatedly. Please follow the instructions in this link to test the drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024If that is not possible, as is the case where the BIOS is too old to offer that function, then do the following:1) When rebooting the PC, keep pressing F2 repeatedly. That should eventually bring up a Diagnostics menu.2) Select the option to test the hard drive. If the diagnostics fail, your drive has failed and will need to be replaced. Please post back with the results.Good Luck

However I was going to give the computer to a friend and wanted to perform a reboot so he can receive the laptop all "new" and clean. Also my microsoft email got hacked and I never was able to recover it so being able to log in to the laptop was kind of a no go. However when I tried to perform a reset and wipe all the files the computer said it was unable to. I can't even see the log in option anymore it just displays HP and a black screen. Only thing I could do is turn it on and press F11 to see the troubleshooting menu, but everytime I try to reset it still won't work, it goes up to 37% and then it says it was unsuccessful with rebooting the laptop. I can't return it since there's no warranty but is there any hope for my laptop? This friend really needed it...

Obviously the recovery partition containing all the recovery files isn?t available anymore? probably it has been deleted or modified in the past?
One question:
Can you reset the OS back to factory settings using this method?

1) In the settings charm, click "Change PC settings".
2) Click "Update & recovery" under PC settings.
3) Click "Recovery" tab.
4) Click "Get started" under "Remove everything" and reinstall Windows.
5) Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the recovery.

In case this isn?t possible anymore, you will need to perform the recovery procedure using the Recovery medium (USB flash recovery stick or DVD disk)

Did you create such medium in the past?

I could use some help. I'm running out of warranty and this problem is starting to get worse... maybe unbearable.

I own a HP Pavilion dv2845se. According to my temperature reading program, my cores idle around 55C and typically run at 78-80C unless there is a video playing or a game to which the temp jumps up to around 90C. 95C is the damage point on my AMD processors, so I get a little worried. Needless to say the GPU is always really hot around 80C or higher. Of course the program isn't getting the most accurate readings most likely. but they should be good approximations. I guess I forgot to type the GFX card.... It is a Nvidia MCP67M according to the device manager, but according to the HP specs its a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M. It was purchased about a year ago... so may-june 2008.

I have Windows Vista x64 as my OS so it makes using fan programs really hard since they don't have the signed drivers. So I was looking for a way to just turn on the fans on high all the time. I would really like it to be able to be tied to whether or not I'm plugged in, but that may not be possible. There has to be a way to access the fans; anyway through linux/unbuntu maybe?

I haven't been able to take apart the laptop to possibly clean out the fans. There is a ton of warranty stickers in the way, and the bottom doesn't just pop off easily.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I have a G50-80 latop which was upgraded to Win10 quite a while ago. Recently it started having trouble with hardware and software that once worked not working any longer. I decided to use the factory reset option to take the system back to Win8.1. Before doing this I uploaded the more critical of my user files to a cloud service and created a Windows system recovery image to an external SSD connecterd via USB. I also created a system recovery CD. Once I felt all was safe, I pushed the little button and began the factory reset. It worked beautifully, the system came up in Win8.1. However, the files I had uploaded to the cloud didn't fully propagate, and I needed to restore the Win10 image to get them back. After many attempts to get the Win10 upgrade to work, I was finally able to boot Win10 and restore from the system image from the SSD. I found the files and more securely saved them for later access. Now, I needed to perform one more factory reset to bring the system back to Win8.1. But, the operations to do so resulted in the system rebooting back to the Win8.1 installation. It was not able to start the factory reset. Some reading on the internet indicates that if the HD partitions are written to by software other than the Lenovo OneKey tools that any attempt to use the factory paritions to do a reset would fail with the symptoms I was seeing. Using the Win10 disk management tool, I can see that there are 6 paritions on my HD. RELEVANCY SCORE 66.4

Hey there,I was having an issue with my S3-392 whereby it would not shut down or sleep.  It would just stay half on whereby the screen was black but the fan would stay on and it wouldn't fully shut down.  I eventaully managed to shut it down but when I restarted it, it wouldn't load the OS.It's out of warranty so took it to a computer repair shop who said that the OS was corrupted and would need to be reinstalled.  I agreed for them to go ahead and do this.  Since I've gotten it back I have realised that the sound volume/quality is v poor.  Obviously seeing as the reloading of the OS (Windows 10) wouldn't have had all the original Acer software/drivers then the original sound software is now gone.  Is there anywhere I can download some decent sound drivers? Also, the laptop no longer recognises my wireless mouse.  Is there something I can do about that?  Or do I just need to buy a new mouse? Many thanks!
