Q: Solved: Need to ask question on what is compatible with Windows 8

Hi all I just got an early Christmas present and now I get to figure out how it all works. I am not sure where to post this question.

What is compatible with Windows 8 64 bit. Like which zip file is safe to use? Is Superanti spyware compatible? Malware Bytes is that compatible?

Any help would be greatly appreciated because this system is another beast..

Preferred Solution: Solved: Need to ask question on what is compatible with Windows 8

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I got a refurbished PC and works fine, however when I hooked up with monitor with Samsung, a floating message popping up in the middle of screen, ... 'Not optimum Mode, Recommended Mode 1280 x 1024 60 HZ' and the screen getting blank few minutes later. When I tested it with another monitor with Dell, there is no floating message and gets a good quality screen which indicates Dell monitor is compatible while Samsung's non-compatible.

Is there a way for me to make the refurbished PC compatible with both Monitors, 'Dell' and 'Samsung?'

Thanks for any help in advance.

I've decided to try my hand at building my own PC. I intend it to be a medium - high end gaming computer. I've got everything figured out (at least I hope) I'm just wanting a second opinion about my choice of motherboard and CPU. I'm pretty sure they are compatible, at least in theory, I was just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with them, or any advice for me. Hey, if you feel like it, recommend something bigger and better. I have a pretty good budget for this (within reason of course, nothing too outrageous).

CPU : AMD Phenom X4 9950 Quad Core Processor 2.60GHz, 4MB Cache, 2000MHz (4000 MT/s) FSB, Agena, Retail, Socket AM2+, with Fan (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4016668&CatId=3496)

Motherboard : FX nForce 750a SLI Motherboard - NVIDIA 750a SLI, Socket AM2/AM2+, ATX, Audio, Video, HDMI, DVI, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN. S/PDIF, USB 2.0, eSATA, RAID (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3930721&CatId=13)

One big question I have, however, is whether a GeForce 8800GT graphics card with its super long design would fit correctly or at all in that motherboard. The 2nd PCI-E slot has to be the first one used, so I couldn't put it in the top slot. I think it would fit, but not quite sure.

Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to have a read through this, and an extra thanks to anyone with any advice or comments.

A:Compatible, or not compatible, that is the question.

why can u not use the first slot? the only problem should be with the case. put the mem. in before u put the video card in.

Recently, I've been attempting to use my NetGear WG111T adapter in order to connect to my wireless network. However, the software to install, even the most recent version, is not able to complete the necessary steps to establish connectivity. The provided "Smart Wizard" will load, and then disappear a second later. I am given no access to my network whatsoever.

I'm wondering if there's any way to fix this, or if there's a different adapter I could try? I've looked at the things regarding the WG111Tvx.inf file, but I am unable to locate it, and do not appear to have this file. The closest I have is WG111Tv.inf.

If one is able to provide me with this file, it would be most appreciated; failing that, I am open to suggestions for other USB adapter solutions.

I'm looking to put more RAM into my laptop; I wasn't sure if this should be posted here or in another place.. my apologies if I've put it in the wrong place.

I have a Gateway Laptop, model ML6720. I currently have two sticks of RAM, 512MB each, the info for them is: 512MB 2rX16 PC2-5300

I found a 1GB stick I'd like to replace the 512's with, the info is: Crucial 1GB 200-pin DDR2 SO-DIMM 667 (PC2 5300) (laptop RAM).

Before I make the purchase, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the Crucial stick would work well with my machine? I've never replaced the RAM on my laptop before, so I'm nervous about it.

I went onto the Gateway website and tried to match the info with the new RAM as best I could; I think I got it right. I'm just looking for a little more input.

Many thanks in advance

What are some things i should check wether a new psu will be able to work with my computer. Please note that i purchased the geforce gtx 660 so disregard the gpu on the page. I heard of people loosing power with the cx 600 so i just wanted to ask you guys. My computer:

Thank you!

A:Question about theCorsair CX 600 compatible?

If you purchased a gtx 660, I assume you intend to game with the system. The cx line from corsair is NOT for gaming systems. It is ok for a basic build ie running onboard/onchip video, running office, email, etc. It is just not up to the stress of gaming. Corsair does not mfg their own pw supplies. The cx line is mfg by ctw [maker of oem stuff] The "real" corsairs ie HX, TX, AX are mfg by seasonic [maker of very high end stuff.

With a cx corsair, you have the equivalent of a dell or hp pw supply.

If you are asking if it will fit, your case uses a standard atx pw supply so yes it will fit however it is NOT recommended for gaming.

i noticed that having a firewall is very important & is a necessity now a days. i'm average in computer knowledge; so i'd like to know what is the best or most compatible firewall with bit torrent client applications such as azureus? i use azureus & sometimes uTorrent.

best or most compatible - meaning which will not slow down the performance of my machine in terms of cpu & memory usage; that'll not conflict with azureus or uTorrent. and especially firewall that'll not be noisy & annoying or just doesn't keep on prompting for warning & asking permission or anything in that manner while azureus is downloading.

by the way, please kindly move this topic if it shouldn't be posted here.

A:Compatible Firewall Question

You are quite right about having a firewall and using it. I might suggest Sygate Personal Firewall, since it allows you to manage permissions by application, and is light on resources. Almost all firewalls will at the very least, prompt on the first use, but you can usually tell them to "always allow" the application access. You can find a link to the free download in this BC pinned topic:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic3616.htmlRegards,John

I haven't been on windows 98 or 98SE alot so I was wondeing, If you put a Cd-writer (burner) in a computer with windows 98 or 98se (which I just did) why when ;you go to my computer and right click on the E dirve is there not a recording tab and other tabs like in windows xp, I know the answer will probably be------because your not using XP----------But I was wondering. The one I put in had NERO with it and I like NERO anyway however I would like to know for future purposes.

Why when you go to mycomputer and right click on the E drive (the burner) don't you have the recording tab and the rest like XP. I like doing it that way in XP where you can move all files or copy files and then go to the burner and say write these files to cd.

Does windows 98 or 98SE have this and I am just missing it or is a burning program like NERO or another the only way to use the burning in 98 or 98SE?

Thanks for the help

A:Solved: Windows 98 and/or 98SE-question about burning CDs, is there a record tab etc-Question

lol, you answered your own question, windows 95,98,98se,and ME don't support cd burning, except with 3rd party software. When you purchase any of the NT systems (ie: xp, NT 4, Server 2003, 2000 PRO etc...) all have the NT kernel which if you look during your install say " Windows (whatever version) is built on NT technology" and "You now have built in CD burning" soon and perhaps with the upcoming service pack 2, it will start coming with DVD burning capability.

I believe the only windows kernel out that currently supports cd burning is the NT one

Not sure why posts asking about installing an OS other than Windows 10 on this device seem to vanish but here goes my attempt for a Linux Specific question. I am unwilling to run Windows 10 because an OS that without any advance notice will uninstall your privately owned and paid for software from other companies during updates potentially costing licensing fees to acquire a replacement license or even damaging system viability if one of those packages is a required driver is unacceptable to me. Due to the aforementioned issues with Windows 10 I am looking to Linux as an alternative for this device. Are there any known Linux Distributions that will fully support the hardware?Does anyone have experience installing Linux and configuring it on this device? What Linux Distribution is most recommended for this device? What additional drivers or software are recommended on Linux to be able to use the hardware to the fullest? Thanks.

Hello everyone..
I am using Windows XP Home Basic at the moment, I am buying a new computer with in the next 2 days or so and they have given me the option of installing Windows XP Home Basic, Or Windows XP Professional...(they don't install Vista unless it is requested)
Windows XP Home Basic is free with the computer, they install it, Pro is a $60 upgrade, as for Vista I am not sure if they even do that or not..

So my main question is this, is it worth going for the Windows Pro?
I use the computer for games, a LOT of games

I also use it for work, I am in charge of a disabled person and I have staff members under me, and I am in charge of hiring, firing, menus, medical info, finances, etc etc..So my files need to make sure my files are locked and secure, right now they are not..
I have to make sure no one with out authorization gets access to these files..

Can some one please tell me a bit about XP Pro??
What is different than the Windows XP Home Basic?
Do I need to relearn anything?
Is the interface different?
How does it compare to Windows XP Basic?
Or would I be better off upgrading to Vista??
Is there a way to lock my files with Pro?
I have 2 friends who have Vista, one likes it with no problems and the other is not too impressed with it..
I have tried Vista on the one computer and it seems to be ok, but I am more familar with XP..

Ok any and all comments appreciated, thanks...
Sorry everyone meant Windows XP home...Not Windows XP Home Basic..

A:[SOLVED] Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit question)

Hi -

Most apps today are x86 and are therefore subject to x86 limitations - even if running under an x64 OS.

A look inside an x64 system - 2 Program Files folders; 2 \system32 folders (x86 = \syswow64) -

Be sure to run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor --> http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...e-advisor.aspx

Make sure you can find Windows 7 drivers for all devices. Windows 7 x64 mandates signed drivers; x86 does not.

Windows 7 Compatibility Center --> http://www.microsoft.com/windows/com...s/default.aspx

If you are x86 now, install Windows 7 x86.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6500, and it came with Windows Vista Home Premium installed on it when I bought it. Here lately, I've been thinking about downgrading it back to Windows XP, since I was happy with it.

See, I like playing pc games, and I'd figure that the more bits my computer has, the better it would play? I honestly don't know, but a friend of mine has Vista too, and he says that if Service Pack 1 doesn't help Vista, he's going to delete Vista and reinstall XP. I figure that if he's not pleased with it, I should get rid of it too (since the guy knows a fair deal about computers).

I told him that I would like to have a 64 bit system for my laptop, and he said that he could give me a 64-bit Windows XP (pro I think...) OS. I asked how good it was, and he said that it wasn't all that great, saying it was unstable, hard to get drivers for, among other things.

So, as a gamer, would it be wise or unwise to get a Windows XP Pro 64bit OS? Thanks!

A:Solved: Question about 64 bit Windows XP

No, not really, you see, the difference between 32 and 64 bits is primarily the amount of RAM it can address. Now that might seem good, but the thing is, each program has to be compiled FOR 64 bits, so most games don't work on 64 bit platforms. So no, stay with 32 bits for now.

I am currently running windows vista-32 bit version. Ive been told that with the 32 bit i cannot upgrade past 4gbt of RAM, was just wondering how much more i can put onto windows 7.

A:[SOLVED] windows 7 question

Any 32 bit Operating system ( XP, Vista, Win7 ) will only be able to utilize 3.2 GB of RAM . . You can install more, but it will only utilize 3.2 GB.

There is no practical limitation with 64 bit Operating Systems.

I usually upgrade to 4 GB for Vista 2 X 2GB so that it will run in DDR mode

I needed to reinstall windows and decided on W7 64bit but now my Canon pixma printer IP4200 will not work,( 32bit version)
Tried the supposedly 64bit driver from Canon but still no luck.

Uninstalled printer software and tried again, still no luck.

Looks like a new printer required, but the question is what Inkjet printer will work with w7 64bit.

Does any member have a printer that works and if so what make (prefer Canon)

Getting desparate now

A:[SOLVED] Printer compatible

I would hold off before buying a new printer. If it was working before and the only difference is you've installed Windows 7 64bit, then you should be able to get it to work.

One thought, what was the Operating System you had before?

This printer isn't wireless, right? So it is connected with USB? (Connect the printer first before doing the following).

You could try running Windows Update, after going into the "Change Settings" and ticking the option "give me recommended updates...", the update facility might (should) offer you the correct driver to install for the printer.
