Preferred Solution: remote users media player history on domain computer

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I come across an issue. I have some powershell scripts in a folder. My demand is that i'd like to share it with remote domain users. But i don't want them to check the content inside.
So, when i set the NTFS permission for the users,  I removed the read permission only retained 'Traverse folder/execute file" permission
and "list folder/read data" permission. however, the remote users could access the folder remotely but failed to see any scripts inside the folder. just looks like the the folder is empty.
My questions is if my requirement is viable with NTFS permission.

Hi There,
i have a situation where i have a client who has a graphic design workshop.
they currently bought a bunch of dell workstations with intel i5 and i7 cores with nvidia quado fx gpu cards.
now they want to give their user's the ability to do photoshop and illustrator work remotely, so far traditional rdp don't seem to work so well.
however, we are wondering if we can use remote fx on these workstations.
we tested using windows 2008r2 with nvidia card and hyper-v just to test the concept and windows 7 as a guest.  so our client were happy on the test concept of remote fx.
but now they want their users to access their workstations directly with remote fx via windows 7 as host on a real machine and not on hyper-v.
any help is greatly appreciated.MattLok

A:Can windows 7 host computer provide remote FX for remote users who need to connect to their windows 7 workstations?

Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum.
As we know, Microsoft RemoteFX is a new feature that is included in Windows Server 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1 (SP1).
For your question, I would like to share the following answer with you:
Q: Are you planning to introduce RemoteFX also for Windows 7 because there are many scenarios where the remote system is not a server but a high end workstation?
A: RemoteFX has been designed as a Windows Server capability to support the growing demand for multi-user, media-rich centralized desktop environments. Windows 7
will be supported as a virtual guest OS under Hyper-V.
Hope it helps.

I have around 50 people in a domain at my work.. how do I stop anyone from accessing my bosses computer over the network?

He is running XP

A:Denying Certain domain users from accessing a computer?

The Windows XP firewall running with "No exceptions" should stop everyone. If by "anyone" you meant selected people accessing but others not there probably is no way. It's probably XP Pro, so file permissions could be used to restrict file read or write access to only those who know the permitted username(s)/password(s).

This response is from somebody who doesn't know domains, so there may be other methods.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit (latest patches etc).
I've managed to work out how to rip CD's using media player/remote desktop connection (I enabled group policy etc).

I have an issue with Media Player itself. After I've ripped a CD, and inserted in another disc, media player does not refresh the tracks. Looking at the MS media player menu refresh is also greyed out.

The workaround is to restart media player. Please note again I'm using Remote Desktop (there's no issue if I'm on the PC itself). Also I've enabled autoplay for Media Centre, however this doesn't seem to be working either.

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

Will this remote work with Media Player?
I can't get any help from Microsoft, and several places that sell the remote don't know.

Any tips or help will be appreciated.

I doubt it will work. Does the computer have any infrared ports or anything of that sort to receive signals from the remote (or the does the remote come with some kind of USB dongle that will act as the receiver)?

I am having trouble establishing how to make a remote desktop connection using RDP from my home computer which is on a workgroup to my work laptop which is on a domain. I work from home occasionally and would like to be able to use RDP in order to use my keyboard mouse and monitor without buying a KVM switch. I am able to establish a remote desktop connection FROM my domain (work) laptop TO my workgroup (home) PC, but not vice versa, i.e. FROM workgroup TO domain computer.

I have searched online and found information about going from domain to workgroup, but not the other way around. Most online information was focused on IT professional server management that I am not completely familiar with such as active directory etc...

I have checked My Computer > Properties > Advanced system settings > System Properties > Remote tab on both computers. Both computers are set to allow connections from any version of Remote Desktop. I ran network connection statistics cmd "netstat -a" and both computers show listening state for port 3389. I ran remote desktop query session cmd "qwinsta" which lists rdp-tcp.

After going to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > see full map > Network Map, I am able to see both computers on the network from either machine. Is their anyway I can have my Home computer join the Workgroup I created at the Office?

Please note I can't use Teamviewer because if I'm not at the office, no one else will be.

A:Remote Desktop to My Work (office) Computer not on a Domain

Hi Mike, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The key is TCP port forwarding. At office, you need to change your router's settings by adding TCP port forwarding (by default port 3389) rule to allow RDP to connect to the destination computer.

An example: the first PC (PC1) at office has a private IP and your router's public IP is You need to tell the router to forward all incoming RDP connections to Now when you give RDP at home the IP, it connects to your office router and forwards the connection to PC1

If you need to access both office computers over RDP, you need to change the default RDP port in registry on the second PC. They cannot use the same port. The value (port number) can be found in following registry key:

Let's say you changed the default RDP port number 3389 on your second PC (PC2) to 3390 and it has a private IP Once again create a TCP port forwarding rule on your office router, this time forwarding traffic from port 3390 to IP

Using RDP from your home and simply giving the IP will take you to PC1 which is using the default RDP port. To connect to your PC2 you need to add the non-default port after IP address, separated by colon, giving it as

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium x64, IE9, with Comodo Firewall and HIPs, Avast AV, MBAM, EMET and SAS.

I have one LUA and one Admin a/c, both strong passworded---Guest a/c is disabled, Real Administrator is enabled, passworded, and never used. I'm behind a router with no network or file & printer sharing and have all recommended blocks on my firewall.

I've just replaced my admin and lua accounts after finding a lot of null sid logon fails at all my accounts over a few months. It might have been a self-snafu, but I seem to have cured the issue. All except Type 3 Anon Logons at every boot, but i read somewhere that too can be a snafu. I'll keep an eye on them.

Meanwhile, eventlog showed my old accounts being removed from a 'no name' global group that had the Domain users group sid S-1-5-21-*-*-*-513. The new accounts were both added to this 'no name' global group. I'm a workgroup pc, not domain.

Home premium doesn't have secpol and I can't get NET command to enlighten me on this domain group. Should I have any global/ domain groups?

Finally, Is there a way to enforce 'Do not allow enumeration of SAM accounts and shares from the Local policy' or disable 'Network access: Allow anonymous SID/Name translation' or equivalent on Win 7 Home Premium?

A:Domain users group - no domain?

Good grief, I am afraid after just reading all of this. I recommend keeping only your windows built-in firewall, but its up to you.

Do you go to some heavy virus-infected websites a lot? All you really need for a home computer is something like MSE. MBAM is great to use with it as well. If you have more than one antivirus, chances are they will begin to conflict with eachother. update and scan for viruses, and if there aren't any, relax. DO you do things on your computer that require top notch security?

If you are looking for better, you might start looking into paying for a AV. google best antivirus to find reviews on different ones.

Windows itself has ways of locking down your computer, such as bit-locker.

Whenever I insert CD's or DVD's into either of my optical drives, Windows Media Player as well as My Computer recognize that media had been added. Hi. I have a problem. I have a relative staying with me at the moment and he uses my spare PC to surf the web. The PC has CCleaner (aka Crap Cleaner) installed and I know he uses this to erase his internet browsing activity. The problem is, I have reason to suspect that he may be accessing websites which are illegal here in the UK.

In view of the fact that he uses CCleaner to erase his internet history, is there anyway I can still find out which sites he has been viewing?

Any help greatly appreciated.

A:How Can I View This Users History?

Hello polekat,I don't know for sure, but I doubt it. What you can do, however, is to prevent your guest from visiting those sites in the first place and keep your guest from using CCleaner.Put your guest on a limited or guest account, change permissions for CCleaner so that only you, the administrator can run it. Enable content blocking, put the illegal sites in the restricted zone of the browser, use the firewall to prevent connection with those sites or a combination. If your account isn't password protected, put a password on it now. If it is password protected, change the password. Also, put a password on the Administrator account that shows up in Safe Mode and create a bios or boot-level password. You can read how to do this here: http://www.malwarehelp.org/Malware-Prevent...-Security1.html This will keep your guest from bypassing the new restrictions.Hope this helps,Orange Blossom

Hi there,

I recently got up to date with the modern world and got a cable modem installed. I started downloading music files immediately, all into Win Media Player. My total library is about 6.6 GB right now. My c: drive Properties tab says I have 28.6 GB of total space and 22.7 is currently used.

What has started happening is that when I use WMP to play music, it sucks up all my computer's resources/memory, and I can't really do anything else on the computer because all other programs run way, way, way too slow. This stops as soon as I pause or stop playback. This has only happened since I started increasing my music collection via downloads. What can I do to release my computer from the music playback "freeze"?

Thank you!
