Wireless network problems - Belkin

Q: Wireless network problems - Belkin

Right then. I've had my network up and running fine for months, however today its stopped working.

My computer connected to the router functions perfectly as usual, yet my upstairs computer and other things i connect to the network with fail. I've restarted and powered off/on, fiddled my settings etc. all to no effect.

One thing i did find odd, on a net test i ran with a xbox 360, it showed no DNS, IP, default gateway etc. All were showing as

The router itself is a Belkin Wireless G-Router, model # F5D7633-4 Ver. 1144uk

I am 16 so while not computer illiterate, i'm not amazing either, though the network was set up by me and has functioned for about 9 months up till now.

Edit: Its also not the signal reaching the reciever, as my computer is showing 4 out of 5 signal. The computer stalls when trying to connect to the network, and i've tried reseting my WPA key to make sure its right

Any thoughts guys? Or any questions on anything i may have missed out?

Thanks in advance

I recommend downloading and running Outlook PST Repair. It's a PST repair tool that I've used it in the past to recover emails, contacts, tasks and notes from corrupt Outlook files that are damaged or inaccessible. Supports Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/1bjhSi. (This link will automatically start a download of Outlook PST Repair that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys I am Andrew and I recently installed the Beta Release of Windows 7 well the issue I am having is that when ever I run the CD it says that it is not compatible, well I am using an F5D7050 adapter and a 1444 router. So is there anyway to bypass it to make it think it is Vista? It is compatible with Vista, Xp, and previous versions. Also after upgrading is there a way to downgrade back to XP which is what I am running, Windows XP Pro SP3.

I have a Belkin Wireless f5d7632-4 at home. Currently the computer attached to the router and one other computer are connected. Both run XP home edition and work fine.
However, I am unable to connect a third computer to the internet, which runs Vista. It will connect to the network but I can't connect to the internet. I have tried all the diagnostic checks that come with Windows but all to no avail.

Anyone got any advice on how to connect this device, i'm not sure wether or not it is my router or belkin that is being a pain in the bum.

I'm staying with my parents for a couple of weeks so want to connect my laptop to their wireless network. I have an ACER aspire 6930z laptop which uses Vista - I connect this at my house to my network with no problems (bebox). Here, my parents are on virgin broadband and have a belkin wireless G plus mimo router. They have other laptops connected to this network, again without a problem.

I can see the wireless network on my laptop and have entered what I believe to be the correct WEP key on my laptop to access the network. When I connect it is connected with limited connectivity (although the signal strength is excellent), Diagnostics says 'there might be a problem with one or more network adaptors on this computer'.

Would anyone be able to help advice me on what I might be doing wrong?

Virgin ar upgrading out internet to 60mb yay! for free yay!

However at the moment we are using the virgin router to get the internet into the house and then using a Belkin play for the wireless netwrok to get internet. the reason for this is that the Belkin router has a USB socket on it that we have a hard drive plugged into it with all our music on it so that we cna access our music from all the computers around the house.

This has worked fine fo rus for a while now.

However with Virgin upgrading the internet they are provinding some new superhub (theri words) wireless router for free and it makes sense to use it as I suspect it will be faster and able to cope with the 60mb internet speed. We would however like to still access out hard drive from all around the house.

So is it possible to get out internet from the virgin wireless router and access the hard drive through our Belkin router? So we need to access two wireless routers at the same time. Is this easy or horrible complicated? i will need to set up 5 computers to do this - 1 is running windows 7 basic,1 windows 7home premium, 1 windows 7professional, 2 running vista.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address, for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no upli... Read more

I have been experiencing wireless wifi connection problems with my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop. I am running xppro (I went from vista to xp pro..took a long time as I am slow) Anyway, I read that you can add another wireless network card as a work around, in the event that the internal wireless card breaks/dies.

I bought a BelkinWirelss G USB network adapter- F5D7050 and tried to install it on this laptop. I was able to install it on my IBM T23 and Gateway laptop. I had to disable the radio on the gateway before it worked. The IBM is old and has no built in wireless card. ON my HP pavilion dv6000, I slid the wireless button to disable and also went into device manager and disable there too.

For some reason after loading the Belkin in, it does not find any wireless networks. I called Belkin and spoke with their help desk but they were not helpful. My question, short of disabling my HP wireless card, do I have to remove the actual software (uninstall broadcom ) so the computer will look only at the belkin software?

My HP laptop, warrantied expired 2 months ago. Any help would be appreciated..

I'm trying (desperately) to set up my network on Windows 7, but have hit a bump in that it just cannot find my network.

I checked Device Manager to see if the card was found - it was with a troubleshoot exclamation point on it.

I removed the card, used the installation disc and am not able to get very far. After the install (after which nothing happens), I click on the Belkin Wireless Networking Utility icon on the desktop and it says "missing shortcut: searching for Belkinwcui.exe", after which I get a window saying "The item Belkinwcui.exe that this shortcut refers to has been changed of moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly".

That exe file isn't anywhere in my computer, searching through Explorer. In fact, in the Belkin install folder (Program Files (x86) -> Belkin ->FSD8001v1...) there just looks like maybe a driver (AegisE5.dll) and an application (AegisI5) that doesn't run.

My next choice, I guess is to take my PC upstairs and line it into my modem/base station directly, but I'd rather not move it.

Am I missing something? Why won't this work? How come I can't install my Wireless Card?

Please help, if you can. Thanks.

A:Cannot Setup Wireless Network (Belkin N1 Network Card)

I'm experiencing an almost identical issue. I had the same problems with the installation disc. After multiple install / unistall / restarts I was able to get the client installed. However, when I click to open the .exe nothing happens.

On top of that, the system is not recognizing the card. I tried all 4 PCI slots with no success.

I installed this same card (same model, different physical card) on a pc running xp sp3 very easily. Since that was so easy I bought another card for my windows 7 machine.

However, I was lazy and didn't do any research. Before I came upon this forumn I found a couple of google links saying this card was incompatible with vista (therefore incompatible with w7?).

Any else out there get this card working?

I have the belkin wireless network usb hub and when I connect any device, I can see the device in the control center software and when I click "connect" in the software it, the device also appears in my computer, but when I start using it after a minute the drive is not responding.

For example if I connect a USB drive/External Hard disk and try to access a song, the song starts playing after a minute, the song stops and the player does not respond. My computer also stops responding. The belkin control center shows the device still connected.

But if I connect a canon camera, the device is working very good.

Is there a limitation based on the amount of data through the device?

I have got myself a belkin router and connected it to my main desktop pc. I bascially want to make a wireless connection between my pc and laptop. I got given a belkin network card too which if I put into my usb drive allows me to connect to the net. I can put the card into both my laptop or desktop and can connect to the net except I cant seem to do it when I only have it in one.

I am looking over the manual for the router and in the part configure your router it says
- In order for your computer to properly communicate with the router, your computer's network ''TCP/IP/Ethernet'' setting needs to be Obtain an Ip adress automatically using DHCP''- How to do I set it and where??

Then it goes onto say you can access the web based management interface of the router using internet browser on a computer physicsally connected to the route. Tpe into your adress bar and click enter. I did it in aol and it takes me to some search site.

Can I actually connect the desktop and laptop without the belkin card and just via the router and also how the hell do i do it lol?

A:Belkin wireless network problem

1. connect the router to your pc via cable first.
2. Make sure the tcp/ip settings in the network connection you use is setup to 'obtain automatically' for ip address and dns.
2. In a browser window, type in the ip address of the router home page; It should take you to the Belkin Router config page.
3. Setup the router for DHCP. Some Belkin's take abut 35 secs to accept and reset the router after each change (for some strange reason!)
4. Setup up wireless networking, MAKE SURE you enable the security on it.

I got given a belkin network card too which if I put into my usb drive allows me to connect to the net. I can put the card into both my laptop or desktop and can connect to the net except I cant seem to do it when I only have it in one.Click to expand...

I got a little confused here. Is the wireless card you have a usb plugin? Which can obviously fit into a usb port on either pc or laptop?
Well, with only one wireless card, you can obviously only have one wirelessly connecting to the network/internet can't you?
The router will most likely have 4 RJ45 ports in the back, so you can plug the pc and laptop into them with cat5e straightthrough cables.
From then its just a matter of sharing resources on the pc and laptop between each other.

Hope this helps.

I installed a belkin home network system about eight month's ago. The system come with the F5D7231-4 router and wireless network card F5D7001. The first card I installed was defective. I returned it and got another one and then Everything worked. I could connect to both computers. I could share printers and files. Both computers connected to the Internet with no problem.
The computer with the card was not used for about three month's. When I restarted the system it will not connect to my other computer. The computer that is connected to the router connects to the other computer just find. Both still connect to the Internet. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and software. I did a hard reset on the router and set it up.
I ran the diagnostics on the card and it shows no errors. I updated my sis LAN drivers. As far as I know the F5D7001 drivers are up to date. The problem is still there. Nothing I have done so far has made any difference. I run XP Home on both computers. Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be?

Belkin G wireless router 2.4ghz-802.11g
Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN mini-card

I am having an odd problem with the wireless capability of my wireless router. When I first got my router I used the Software included but that did not work so I set up my network manually. For several months everything was working perfectly and both physical and wireless connections to the router were working. Recently the wireless capability of the router has stopped working, however it still emits a strong signal and functions perfectly as a non-wireless router.

The problem my laptop encounter when it is try to connect is that the connection status constantly displays "Authenticating". I have tried to rebuild the network, no effect. Have clicked on the repair button, it sits indefinilty on the step "renewing IP address". I have tried physically entering my IP address, no effect. I am positive the problem is not my laptop wireless card because it still fuctions perfectly on all other networks.

Is this a networking problem or is it just time to get a new router?

I just recently got a new computer setup in the basement of my house. The other two computers on the network are upstairs, and we also have an Xbox 360 hooked up. I was told that I could have up to 4 things connected to the router...

We have 1 computer directly connected, and the second and third connections are Xbox and another PC in the office.

I cant seem to get the basement PC hooked up to the network... The Belkin card see's the network, but it wont connect to it. At some point I even got it to connect but it wasnt sending/receiving packets and it wouldnt open a web browser.

A family member came over and tinkered for awhile and manually put in the Network Key and randomly tinkered with the stuff and I was able to connect and use the internet.... Well, when I turned it off and turned it back on it was doing the same exactly thing. Now we cant get it to work at all again.

It wont aquire the network address... it just keeps saying "aquiring network address"... I cant remember some of the other stuff it told me, but I will be checkin the site for replies and will be trying everything you guys say.

What must we do to get this crap up and running? I really appreciate any help and if you happen to be the one that gives me the correct advice that gets things up and running, I will mail you a $5.00 Taco Bell gift card as a sign of my gratitude. Just so you know, that can buy 3 or 4 days of burritos/tacos if you play your cards right.

A:Wireless Connections problems (Belkin Wireless Utility)

Actually, you can have more than four things connected to the router. You normally have connections for four wired connections, but you can have more wireless connections. Also, you can expand the wired connections with an Ethernet switch.

First off, I'd access the router's configuration and disable encryption to get the connection initially connected. Once you get it connecting without the encryption, then we can add in the encryption as a separate step.

Please supply the following info.

The name of your ISP and country of residence.
Make/model of the broadband modem.
Make/model of the router (if any).
Connection type, wired, wireless.
Make/model of network card or wireless adapter.
Make/model of your computer (motherboard if home-built).
Version and patch level of Windows, i.e. XP-Home SP2.

Hi there

Been having some odd issues with my wireless adapter for a while. Every time I boot my computer or wake it from sleep, it doesn't recognise my Belkin wireless adapter. This is resolved quite simply by removing it and putting it back in. Bizarrely, if I take it out and put it back in immediately it doesn't work, I have to wait at least 5 or so seconds before putting it back in. It works perfectly well afterwards, I have no issues with it. I know it's a fault with the adapter as I have tried another adapter on this PC and it doesn't do the same thing. The only reason I use it is because the other one periodically seems to slow my connection to a crawl or give me limited connectivity on the WiFi, but that's another thread entirely! I figured this issue would be simpler to solve.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I'd have to know the exact model number of the Belkin adaptor in order to help you.

In most cases it's easier to simply purchase a newer wireless N adaptor like the D-Link DWA-140 for about 12 bucks on Amazon.

Post back the results in device manager
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X
post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

For starters I would try to connect to it through a ethernet cable directly...then you can reset your WEP key. If this is not possible, on all belkin routers there is a hard reset button. It should be located on the back. Hold this down for about 10 secs and your back to factory defaults.

Hope this helps.

I recently bought a N+ Belkin adapter, as my old adapter did not support Windows 7 and our household is upgrading to an N router soon.

The USB adapter (model number F5D8055) works fine on a vista desktop that is connected to the router, and will seemingly install on my Windows 7 rig, but it will not detect any wireless networks, or even enable. When asked to enable, it says it is enabling, claims to be enabled, and then continues to not work.

CD, of course, will not install drivers, as they are vista-only. The online drivers don't seem to work, nor does manually installing the 64 bit vista drivers from the cd.

Any ideas on how to make it connect? I'm fairly certain it's a driver compatablility issue

I bought this yesterday and have still not managed to make it work, i'm on a laptop running windows 2000, it's a Dell Inspirion 800 (or something like that) and it's about five years old, i got it from my mums boyfriend so any other information is unbeknownest to me.
I have installed everything from the CD that came with it and plugged it in, all that happens is it flashes and doesn't connect, when i open the utility it shows the me the My Computer -!> Router -!> Internet and won't connect and doesn't even find my router even though the router can see it (apparently, thats just what i've been told).
I have tried changing the options but the Advanced Options won't open at all and neither will the router options.
When i tried the connectivity test I get something like the first four passing and anything beyond WAN just failing, i would be more specific but i can't get at it right now.
I know i should have looked first but i have just searched google and seen some pretty negative reviews on Belkin products.
I can't afford another one and won't be able to take it back so any help would be sooooo appreciated!
By the way, I connect to a Netgear router (can't remember the model number), before this i had a D-Link which worked perfectly well but he end of the USB broke of so it won't work anymore
Well as i said any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys!

sorry if this has been posted before.

I recently purchased a Belkin wireless network adapter for my HP windows 7 computer, and the checkout woman said it would work.

Unfortunately, it does not work. at first, it was just dodgy, connecting with only a small connection. It started getting better, but it would always cut out after a while.

A friend of mine tried to fix it, using lots of methods including the xlink kai method and others including downloading the drivers and another one which I can't remember. None have worked.

Has anyone got a really easy, fool-proof, easy understandable way to make this work please?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

There is no networks found and the light on the dongle does not flash. The USB ports tried all appear to work fine (I can sync and charge my Ipod on them).
In desparation I bought another new adapter but it failed to install due to not detecting that it was plugged in.
I've tried rolling back a system restore but this did not work (I've not installed anything in ages but thought I would give it a try).
I'm not sure if this may be a driver issue. Anyway, hope you guys can help. Currently getting by with my other half's netbook.

I recently built a new PC. My old PC was a Dell Dimension 9200 (the specifications of which can be viewed in my profile).

My old PC was Windows 7 32bit. My new PC is Windows 7 64bit.

The new build was mostly new parts, except I was hoping to bring over my wireless network card. This came with my Dell machine and is a Belkin Wireless Desktop Network Card F5D7000.

I've plugged this card into the motherboard and it's being recognised as an attachment, but I believe I'm having trouble with the drivers as the computer isn't showing any wireless networks.

I tried using the Dell network drivers, but got an error saying the hardware wasn't correct (I assume it checks to see if it's a Dell motherboard, which it no longer is).

I also tried using the Version 7 and 8 drivers available here: Official Belkin Support Site | Wireless G Desktop Card F5D7000 v1, v2, v3, v4, v5, v6, v7, v8 - Driver Only Packages (US) I also tried to install them in Windows Vista compatability mode.

Although V7 and V8 seem to install (or at least the wizard finishes and the files are put on my drive), I don't think they are actually functioning as the machine still isn't recognising any wireless networks. The network icon has a red cross through it and the troubleshooting just tells me to attach an Ethernet cable.

Any help with this would be so greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Hi, here is an e-mail I sent to Belkin tech support ... but I haven't heard back so I thought I'd try here. Can anyone help me?

Hi, I'm trying to set up a Belkin F5D6020 ver2 wireless adapter on my IBM 233mhz laptop running WIN98se. I want to connect to my existing wired network. I have a cable modem connected to my Belkin F5D6231-4 router. I have 2 PCs connected to the router via ethernet cable. The wired part of the network is working beautifully. All wired PCs can talk to each other. When I have my wired network adapter installed on the laptop, it works great too.

I installed the installation software on the laptop using the EASY option. I plug in the adapter card when prompted and Windows installs the drivers. My computer doesn’t ask me to restart so I restart manually. The monitor utility comes up and, after a minute, a warning message displays ‘The access point you are attempting to access does not appear to exist. Please select the new one’. The prompts on the utility screen read:

Profile name: Default
Operating mode: infrastructure
Channel = 3 (greyed out)
Tx Rate = Auto
MAC address = 00-30-BD-D2-BF-06
status = scanning

There is no signal strength or link quality. I click on the site survey tab and there is nothing listed. I click rescan and still nothing. The green link LED on the card is flashing. The WLAN light on the router is solid green.

On my PC web browser I go to to access the router set up utility.

Hey guys, I have just received an older PC, the low profile Dell Optiplex GX150. I freshly installed Windows XP with Service Pack 3, and installed my new Belkin N600 Wireless USB adapter. It appears to have installed correctly, however I am having trouble connecting to my network. When I search for available networks, my network is shown. When attempting to connect, the screen gets stuck on "Acquiring Network Address", and after a few minutes the window closes without connecting. My wireless network is encrypted with WPA Personal and "TKIP or AES", and these settings are correct under the network settings in Windows. I know this computer has networking capabilities, because I am currently sharing my Laptops wireless access with an ethernet cable via a workgroup. I am having no trouble whatsoever connecting via the cable (I am currently using PC with issue to type this). I'm sure the adapter is windows XP compatible because the Box the adapter came in states Windows XP with Service Pack 3 is compatible. I've tried a lot of advise from other posts on various forums and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

A:Problem connecting to wireless network via Belkin USB adapter

I have just received an older PC, the low profile Dell Optiplex GX150. I freshly installed Windows XP with Service Pack 3Click to expand...

What's the "service tag" number and/or "express service code" number on that Dell OptiPlex GX150?

That Dell comes with an Intel Pentium III processor and supports a maximum of 512 MB(256 MB X 2) of PC133 RAM.

Yours has only 256 MB of RAM, so it's not going to run like a turtle. It's going to run like a snail or bog down.

It has only a 20 GB hard drive with an actual capacity of 19.12 GB, so it's not going to take it long to run out of free space.

That Dell is a "dinosaur" and isn't worth spending money on.

Have you installed the driver software for that Belkin N600 USB wireless adapter?

Hopefully this is a relatively simple question.

I have a bit of an old Belkin Wireless card which I trying to get to work with Windows 7 HP 32bit.

As yet Belkin do not offer a driver for Windows 7 and their Vista one doesn't work. The Broadcom 802.11g seems to be possibly the one to go for. I've tried googling to download it though and there appears to be nothing from the broadcom website or elsewhere.

Any help?

We just recently purchased a new computer with Windows 7 on it. I'm very familiar with XP but I pretty much feel lost with 7 so far! Still learning, I guess.

When we initially set up our internet with the wireless router, it worked great for a few weeks. Then I come home one day, and our internet suddenly stopped working. The router's lights are still on as if everything were normal, the modem is too, but the computer says "Unidentified Network / No Network Connection". When I take the router out of the equation and just plug the desktop directly into the modem, it works just fine.

Router: Belkin Wireless G Router; Model F5D7230-4 (Version 7001)
Modem: Arris TM402P/110
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)

With the router plugged in, this is what I get:
-Network connections: Unidentified network/No network address
-cmd / ipconfig /flushdns & /registerdns; they both work properly, however when I try ipconfig /renew, it says: "Windows IP Configuration. An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."
-cmd / ipconfig /all; gives me this:
Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . :
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . . . :
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . . :

Tried the following:
-Hard reset of the router to return it to factory settings; no change.
-Tried moving the ethernet cable throughout the other 3 ports on the router after... Read more

A:Belkin Wireless G Router F5D7230-4 - No network conn

You get the unidentified network cos w7 requires full IP settings to be recognised, if anything is missing like DNS or if an IP is not correct it will thru you that. I don't know anything about Bonjour, but i had that service running before and it seem to do anything.

Are you able to direct connect to your modem? if so connect and see see what details show in ipconfig /all?

Ill start from the beginning,
I have bt voyager 220v connected to my pc for internet and recently bought a belkin wireless g router to use wireless with a laptop. All was connected and working fine for couple weeks then all of a sudden just stopped, the internet works fine when connected direct to the pc again but will not recognise anything going through the wireless router.

I contacted a pc guy i know who advised the following: The new modem probably needs you to enter the account name/password to connect.

and I understand that the BT voyager 220V modem/router user name/password is entered on the WAN configuration screen using the web based setup for the modem but im not sure how to access this information?

Please could you help??

A:belkin wireless problems

First off, please post the exact model of the router.

Second, let's see this when connected directly to the modem.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I've tried to install with the included CD, plug and play, device manager, and installation program from the manufacturer's website and still get the same error: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)". I have tried to install with Norton Internet Security un-installed, with the Windows firewall disabled, with a clean boot, and in Safe Mode with no luck. Initially I had another brand of network adapter that I tried to install, and got the same error so I returned it thinking it was faulty. Same problem with the Belkin. Any suggestions? I have ran the sfc /scannow in the command prompt as administrator: "Windows Resource protection did not find any integrity violations". I also ran the WindowsFixit tool, which did not work either. Under the Device Manager I found the Install Error: "The parameter is incorrect. 00000057". When I try to update the driver from the device manager, it tells me the best driver is already installed. It still has the yellow exclamation point on the "Belkin Wireless Adapter" in the Device Manager. I am getting pretty frustrated! Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Couple things:
Laptop or Desktop?
Some System Specs would be good. Then we can see what kind of hardware we are dealing with.

If you can post a screenshot of the Device Manager with Network Adapter expanded.

Here's the first thing I thought of: if you have installed other wireless adapters, did you uninstall them correctly from Device Manager before trying a new one?

Hi I have just installed a new Windows 7 64-bit on my drsktop PC and I have found that i cant connect to my wifi because the driver for my Belkin F5D7050 Wireless G USB Network Adapter wont install.

I have made a backup of all the drivers on my PC when I was still running Win7 32-Bit so just to say the things I have tried to do are going into device manager and searching for a new driver for the USB2.0 WLAN which hasn't got a driver (this is the belkin adapter in decice manager) but it just keeps saying it was unable to find the driver.

I have also tried going on the belkin website and downloading the exact driver I need from there and installing the setup but also with no success.

If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you

Hi and welcome.

Well first of all have you switched the Wireless adapter on your laptop on?
there's usually a little sliding switch at the front, back, side, or underneath your laptop. check the manual and the manual wil show you where?

Bought this adapter a few hours ago, and after attempting to install it, have decided to console trusty techspot for advice. Basically, I followed the "Easy 2-Step Guide" that Belkin provide, to its entirety, and the result was that when I opened up the Belkin wireless utility it couldn't find a signal, or even a network.

So, first thing's first: move closer to the router. So I did...to about 1.5m away, and still nothing. Hmm. Then, after much playing around with useless settings in the utility I decided to call Belkin support. The guy spent 20 minutes getting me to do this and that, and ended up saying that I had to change a channel or something on my BT router. Does anyone know if this could be the answer to getting connected to the network, and if so, how do I change the channel thingy?

As always, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have a belkin wireless G USB Network Adapter which looks like this:

And I have a router:

Okay before I start with my problems I just want to say I've called Belkin tech support about 12 times and this issue has never been resolved. And if it has, it lasts for a few minutes like when we switch the channels.

Okay there are 2 computers:

One is a laptop that is standard Windows XP Home edition. It has a built-in wireless networking card (I don't know what it is) but if I were to guess some standard dell one that came with it. It works completely fine with the network.

Then there's my desktop which is Windows XP Home edition. It is a pentium 4 1.99 GHz, 250 gb HDD, and 512 MB DDR1 RAM. I don't think the specs matter much but there they are anyways...

Okay the problems are:

When I start the computer it takes a good 3-5 minutes to go online. I see the tv icon appear and it connects instantly but the internet connection is non-existent for 3-5 minutes for some reason. Under properties sent is high but recieved is very low it's like 100-200 kb per every 45 seconds.

I get constant dropped connections. No matter what I do on the internet whether I download, browse youtube, send e-mails etc. The connection drops for a good 15 seconds every 5-10 minutes then comes back on full speed just fine.

I have a Belkin n+ f5d8235-4 v2 and I have reset the router and then I had to manually reconfigure everything and I may have messed something up. The router has two blinking amber lights: the modem and internet lights.
-I began with my modem booted up, then I booted up my router while my modem and router were connected via yellow ethernet cable and another cable from my router to computer.
-First, I set up a new password
-Next, I went to Connection Type and set up - Dynamic, then entered my ISP host name and clicked apply.
-Next, I went to MAC address cloning, and just clicked apply as the boxes were already filled with characters.
-Next, I went to Channel and SSID and left everything the same except I changed my SSID name and took off the box marked broadcast SSID then clicked apply . The wireless channel was set to auto and current channel was 11 and extension channel was set to auto.
Next, I went to Security, Security Type: WPA-PSK, Authentication: WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK and entered a new PSK and clicked obscure PSK then apply
Next, I went to Guest Access and enabled radio, created ssid name, Security: WPA/WPA2 PSK, Authentication: WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK then entered the same PSK as before and clicked obscure PSK then apply.
For some reason, when I go back to both of the previous two screens, the new password I created does not show up, only my old one but when I type the new password into my wifi network, it connects.

(I post pictures to help others get a better image of what I'm working with)

Anyways, I recently had to reformat everything and start over. Everything seems to be working rather smoothly but the USB Network adapter. My connection speed is literally 10-20 mbps. When it normally runs a nice 60-80 mbps. And before the reformat it worked completely fine.

So here's what I have tried and done in order to resolve this issue. And by the way there are 3 other pc's on the network and all work just fine and are up to speed connection wise and also use wireless belkin network cards, except for the one downstairs which is an older usb linksys (which is now Belkin) adapter. Anywho...

I have tried moving the adapter around in case there is interference.
I've updated all the drivers to the latest version.
I have tried different USB ports and installed the software each time.
I have updated windows xp home with all the updates.
I've tried resetting the router and adjusting it's position.
I've configured the wireless connection for encryption, manual IP and server. I've also tried auto detect.
