HP G62 screen issues (yellow stain / flickering)

Q: HP G62 screen issues (yellow stain / flickering)

Hello!I came up with an idea to bring my old laptop back to life, and after 1 week of fighting with it every single day im totally exhausted right now...HP G62 was overheating and it had yellow stain on the screen and the screen was flickering (link to the video: https://youtu.be/0Xgd6eTs374)What excatly was/is happening:1. Screen flickering in BIOS (only on overheat info screen - it was overheating before fan cleaning and thermal paste replacing)2. Screen not flickering while choosing boot mode3. Yellow stain at login screen4. No stains - clear screen after logging in5. Vertical line appear while cursor is at the edge of the screen6. Screen flickers while cursor is pointed at some icons near the edge of the screen (info box appears)Few days ago the screen was constantly flickering while windows were maximized and while menu bar was at the bottom (it somehow doesn't happen anymore).Changing LCD cable didn't solve the problem. After cleaning fans and replacing thermal paste the LCD worked completely fine (no stain/flickering) for about 5 mintes - after one reboot yellow stain showed up again (and flickering as described above). What more - while connecting/disconnecting power button cable the LCD turns on/off - if it turns of and doesnt turn on, the power button doesn't work also - the only way to turn the laptop off is to pull out the battery and the AC cable - after that power button doesnt work until plugging/unplugging power button cable several times. What can be the issue? Screen isn't brokken - it fiixed by itself for some time. LCD cable also doesn't seem to be damaged.Everything works completely fine on the external monitor/tv.GPU / motherboard issues should have been seen on external monitor/tv also.Any ideas? Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need some help with diagnosing a problem with my dell laptop. I have a Dell XPS 15 L521x.
I have upgraded the RAM on the machine from 8GB to 16GB and also the built in caching mast SSD (32GB) to 250GB and made it the primary boot drive.
I upgraded the RAM a year ago, but when I took off the heatsink I just reattached it at the time.
I upgraded the msata yesterday, but this time I removed the heatsink, cleaned it and reapplied the thermal paste.
The new upgrade did what it should, my laptop boots super fast now. The issue I have is i randomly get yellow lines appear over the white areas on the screen. I've taken a few pictures which you can see in the links below:
Picture 1
Picture 2
Edit: I have tested this with another external monitor whilst the yellow lines were appearing and they didn't show on the external. I think it could be something to do with the IPS panel. Also note, this happens randomly and with less frequency now.

Is anyone having screen flickering problems. I found a fix easily using the Lenovo virtual agent. Very helpful. Check it out. BTW, her name is NINA, but she likes to keep that a secret.

So, I've had this screen flickering issue for a couple months now on a new build. It had been running with no issues for the first couple months.

The graphics card was replaced under warranty by XFX. The one they received was tested and was error free. So the issue is not the graphics card.

MemTest86 ran for almost two days and came up with zero errors.

The SSD was cloned from another computer, not sure if that matters or not.

Computer runs fine for hours after boot.

Temperatures are cool. GPU runs around 95*, CPU in the low 90's.

So i have this weird gray stain on my screen, which doesn't wipe off, nor is a graphical glitch (i assume but i'm not sure), it might be a defect from water damage, but i don't want to open it up just to check and possibly brake something, and i'd like to know if it could be fixed. Thanks.

I was cleaning my laptop today, a gentle cleaner, no alcohol, bleach, ammonia or any harsh chemicals, and though I didn't spray directly onto the screen, I managed to get some of the cleaner underneath the screen. It's not too bad, and doesn't seem to be affecting my laptop in any way, it's just a bit of an eyesore, especially against light backdrops. Is there any way I can safely fix this? Or will it dry and resolve itself on it's own?

It could simply still be wet, and will disappear when it's dry, or depending on what was in the water it may leave a residue behind. Give a few days to dry out and see what happens. Otherwise, you may need to open the case up and clean it.

Hi guys,
For about 5 months now I've been putting up with my laptop having screen difficulties as I've just been connecting it up to a external screen using a VGA cable. The basis of my situation is that anything displayed on my laptop screen doesn't display the right colours - they all have a gray tinge to them and it frequently flashes when i try to alter the screen (move it up and down). I've tried many things to resolve my issue (fn+C for asus splendid technology to alter the display, adjusted the screen graphics, adjusted the intel graphics) I've been floating around different forums and they haven't been able to help.

The laptops gray flickering tinge does NOT transfer onto my external screen, It's NOT always like this, the screen doesn't start having difficulties with colour until i alter the screen (move it up or down) or start running various programs/games. The laptop itself is about 2 years old and the warranty has run out so i cannot use it. I'm aware it could be a internal graphics card issue as the screen flickers when I move the screen.
On a side note; around 5 months ago i connected a new Samsung screen (which i am now using), around that time this issue started occurring.

I'm just wondering if there's something i can try before I need to take it to someone to repair it for me.

Thank you very much.

A:Asus laptop screen flickering issues

Lose cable. If you are comfortable talking your laptop apart then go ahead. and try re-seating the cable connections, secure them tightly to the connections, if that doesn't work then determine from there weather you need a new cable or screen.
If you do not feel comfortable talking it apart then take it to a local shop.

Hi all,I ordered the new Dell XPS 15 9550 a little while ago. It's a great machine, but there was an issue with a metallic rattling inside one of the speakers, especially when playing high notes. I got a replacement, the sound is fine, but the screen is different on that one. It's the same type of screen, same manufacturer (LG) but the colours, brightness and white balance are off. It's almost got a very subtle yellowish, muddy tint that is warm. The whites are not white any more and it does not seem as bright. I had them side by side so I could compare and the difference is obvious.I don't think there's anything wrong with the screen - but it does seem odd, and I got a hunch that Dell have made some adjustments to the BIOS or the default colour profile.Has anyone ele experienced this, and is there a fix for this? Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I bought a Dell XPS 13 2016 (9350) FHD, i5, 8GB, 256GB and two weeks ago i received it. It has a great hardware but software is not very optimized and I have a frustrating issue with the display: it flickers everytime i turn the Bluetooth on and stays on. I cannot figure why but I really hope it's a software issue because is very sporadic, at the moment it never happened today, I really don't know what to do.

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm experiencing the same issue with my Dell XPS 13. It's associated with the Bluetooth being on.

Hey guys, usually pretty self sufficient when it comes to hardware issues but i have no experience with monitors going awry and seek some advice.

The issues a relatively simple one, when first starting the computer there is a problem with the monitor getting power, the power light stays off and the screen, completely black flickers making a clicking noise gaining a very slight gain in brightness all the while the power light staying off.

After unplugging from the power, and disconnecting the vga connection a couple of times eventually the power light comes on and the screen works.

During use there are no issues with the picture and it works fine, it is only when the computer has been shut down and the screen off for a period of time i have this issue getting it back on.

Any help as to what it is appreciated i suspect it has come to the end of it's life as it is almost 3 years old now.

The monitor in question is a GNR, showing as a plug and play on devices and running of a gforce 8500 gt.

Thanks in advance

Hi Everyone, Our customers who use Lenovo M700 tiny to run our java based application for french pharmacys encounter frequent flickering issues on their computer. We have other customers who face exactly the same problem on computers from other brands. The common point between all these customers seems to be that all these computers use the intel hd 510/530 graphics.a zipped flickering video example is attached to this post.We updated every bios/graphic/chipset driver we could without any positive result. As a Lenovo trade partner , we asked Lenovo for support but until there, no result either. This morning , i downloaded the last available Intel HD 510 driver on the Intel support Website, which driver is not yet available on Lenovo M700 support page. I hope this will work (i'll tell you if so), the release notes tell it corrects flickering problems for games like Doom3D and others... The goal of this post is to show the community an example of our flickering issue and to know if anyone already encountered such a problem like this. Could you please let me know if it already happened to you ?Thanks for your replies B. Hey everyone! So, I have been having trouble with my HP Pavilion 23xw 23-inch IPS LED Backlit Monitor. My current setup is my Dell Inspiron 7547 laptop connected to the monitor via HDMI acting as the primary monitor. I also have a PlayStation 4 connected to the monitor's second HDMI port. When my PlayStation 4 is running at the same time as my computer and I want to switch the input, I get the notification to "Check Video Cable". After this disappears, my computer runs just fine. This is purely irritating to me, but is there any way that I can stop this notification? The primary issue that I have is occasional screen flickering on my monitor. When I am using my monitor, the screen occasionally goes black for about 5 seconds and comes back on. The length of time between flickers varies every time. I have tried updating my computer's graphic drivers, but it did not solve the problem. I have also tried replacing the HDMI cable, but it did not solve the problem. I have talked to many support agents, but they cannot solve my problem. Does anyone have any ideas that I can try? I would love to be able to fix my issues! Thanks again!

Hey Guys!

I have just recently bought a new i3 processor for my computer and fitted it into my 1155 socket, however I am currently waiting on a new PSU being delivered so the processor has not been used at all yet. After I fitted the processor and the heatsink I checked on it the next day and it was stained even though no power has been supplied to the computer whatsoever since its been fitted, Could anyway tell me whats going on?

Here is a picture

Well, that just looks like your thermal paste being spread out. Probably from the fitting of the HS. There is no problem here. However, I would probably clean and reapply before putting the HS back on.

The other day I went to pick up my Toshiba NB-10T and it had this strange stain all over it. It was stored in it's case and in a dry place of course. I don't know what could it be: http://imgur.com/a/Jonnh

Is it even safe? Was intending for my little kids to use it. I find it very strange that a 3-yo laptop would have that? Never seen anything like it. Laptop seems to turn off.

I've had several issues with my display flickering quite a bit and having windows up end up not responding. From what I recall, most times the flickering will occur solely within the windows, not even the entire display. Other times any windows I have up, especially explorer, will say 'not responding' every second or so. This happens quite frequently when I have a game running like World of Warcraft. In addition, if I have a window I'm clicking on that's in front of another window, it'll oftentimes go behind the other when I'm trying to click on it (gets very annoying in PS with all the palettes).

I've checked all the connections for my hardware, I've uninstalled/reinstalled my display drivers, checked all the drivers for my peripherals, checked for any running programs that could be hogging my CPU and RAM with processes, and checked the settings in my nVidia control panel (I enabled SLI and everything that should be enabled for my computer).

I have never had this problem before. I'm not quite sure what to do about it. I'd appreciate some help. I just reinstalled Windows and it seems to have started shortly after the installation.

I've included my hijackthis log just in case I have some malicious process running I'm unaware of.

Hi, I'm currently using an archaic LG Studioworks 775N CRT monitor. I got it 5 or 6 years ago and it's serving it's third computer right now. I have never had a hint of trouble with it but just this evening I have been getting flickers every now and then where the monitor will become brighter, even though it is on max brightness and contrast....Anyway, is this something I should worry about? Does anyone know if my monitor is about to crap out on me finally?

Thanks in advance.

A:Monitor flickering issues

Frankly, 6 years service is exceptional.
You shouldn't be "worried" as such, after all, we all have to go some time.

Check the VGA cable's security at both ends (graphic card plug/socket and monitor end).
You can try giving the cable a gentle flex while it's operational.
Sometimes the wiring/joints break down and are repairable/replaceable.

Also check the power cable > try a different one.

I had the issue stating Intel graphics driver (Windows 8) has crashed etc. This is not a hardware problem, in some extreme cases it maybe. I would like to stress the issue is the Intel driver being used by Windows 10. I came across this problem when I downloaded an updated Windows 10 driver for the i7-6700HQ processor directly from intel, it alerted me that the manufacturer does not support you using this driver and would abort the installation. So I took the risk and uninstalled the intel driver on Windows 10 and then ran the installation, so once I uninstalled it, the laptop became extremely slow and eventually got BSOD when trying to turn it off (As required by the setup). I rebooted and again the laptop was being extremely slow. (I had downloaded the driver before hand). Then I ran the intel installation setup which is a native Windows 10 driver. After 30 mins it finally installed and I rebooted. No flickering at all. The laptop is now a lot more faster, I get a better battery life (6/7 hours rather 4/5 hours). I urge everyone to uninstall the pre-installed lenovo windows 8 intel hd driver and replace it with the intel windows 10 hd driver. This should and for me has stopped flickering.

My Laptop is 13 months old Dell I7 5558, i was facing this screen flicker issue previously ,where i got my Laptop Screen replaced by you ,but now I'm facing the same issue .
Previously before replacing i used to have just few flicker, now flicker rate got increased even more & Screen Goes black which is really annoying.
Even at the logo Screen I 'm seeing Green & pink lines
Sometimes nothing appears on the screen just  flicker of Green & pink lines & black Screen After that.Where i should  to remove my battery  & place it ,to turn on my laptop in this case.
Problem is not related to software, if that was the case flicker should not be at dell logo screen.
But FYI my Graphic Card Drivers are already up to date.
I Guess the problem is at the hinges or with the monitor or maybe related to mother board itself.
when my laptop screen is less than 90 degree i can see few flicker, when it 90 degrees or more than that ,continuous flicker & black screen later as like monitor looses power nothing .

Any Other Information Required let me know.

Hi, I was wondering if any other users has slight black marked stains, perhaps from your fingers or whatever and can't remove them? Any tips for getting rid of 'em? The rubberized cover seems to absorb some dirt Tried alcohol swabs and stuff and didn't work. Any tips?

A:Stain on Front Cover Y2P

you mean on the top cover? it is not a stain, but rather it is either the silver paint or orange rubberised paint wearing off, and showing the black underpaint. The more you clean it, the more likely that the problem gets worse.

Hi there,

I developed a problem with my desktop pc yesterday. I was gaming and the screen began to flicker then the game crashed - citing "rendering device lost". I tried to re-load this again and the same thing happened again, this time with a BSOD. I tried a different game and the same thing occured, took slightly longer though. Given it was late I went to bed.

Today on loading up the sign in screen was flickering lots, I entered my password and was met by a black screen. The computer continued to make fan noises as if it was working, but nothing on my screen. This happened again. On restaring my computer the crash report read

BCP4 B00000000

I've looked at the bug dump, but I was silly and did a system restore before this, so there's no bug dump.

The computer starts and runs fine in safe mode and without the graphics card in.

Since I've done a system restore
Cleaned everything again ( was pretty dust free to start)
Uninstalled and re-installed the graphics card drivers
Re-seated RAM and GPU
Done a memory diagnostic on my RAM
None of these have worked.
I've taken the graphics card out and it runs fine with the onboard GPU.

My laptop Dell Inspiron 15R 5520(Core i3 2370M 6GB ram win 7 64bit)  worked perfectly from Nov2012-April2016.

Now the screen started flickering and jumping since a few days and there's a white dotted line that appears along the top of the screen that starts the minute there is any kind of display.
How do I figure out if the inverter on the screen is faulty or if it's the screen cable or the whole screen itself?
To satisfy my curiosity I opened up my laptop to find that the lcd cable was badly crushed under the screen hinge (definitely , a design/manufacturing issue! Will dell take responsibility?), and each time the screen was shut/open there was substantial pressure on the cable was what I noticed.
Unfortunately I'm out of warranty and I don't know what to do.
Please advise on fixing this issue.

Good morning all, I turn to you with an unusual problem. One of my employees noticed on his display small (approx. 2mm x 3mm) glittering speck interfering in his work. In my opinion it is difficult to see, however, that user comfort is very important for the company. From what I know, this man puts great emphasis on taking care of equipment and says that there could be no physical damage to the screen. The stain can be seen in the pictures attached. Is there any possibility to remove it without replacing the screen? Is replacing operation complicated? What is the availability of spare parts for THINKPAD laptops in function of time? I will be extremely grateful for the help.Have a nice day!

We've got about 2 dozen of the 4th gen x1 carbons, machine type 20FB, and have had a high number of display related issues with them.  At the moment, we have 3 sitting upstairs waiting for UPS to pick up for shipment to lenovo service, and one more on my desk that was just acting up.  I'm told that we have previously sent in at least another 3 or 4 laptops for similar issues.  I understand that those previous laptops had the displays replaced, and that we have yet to see a recurrence of the issues in one that has been repaired. The problems we've seen are intermittent, and generally fall into one of two categories:FlickeringVideo garbled, missing sections, or complete garbage.  The flickering is sometimes very faint, barely noticable, but other times it's more pronounced, bad enough that users complain of headaches and/or "it's going to cause seizures!" The garbage video issue is what I just saw with the laptop sitting on my desk.  It went to sleep, and when I woke it up, this was what I saw:? After a few moments, the laptop rebooted on it's own and the display was back to normal, but I don't want to send this out with a user now just to get a support call when it happens again. Is anyone else having this sort of issue?  Or did we just particularly unlucky?

Hello All,

Just some quick background - I had a custom built "Cyber Power PC" - and I immediately noticed one particular problem - i.e.// Prime95 had some issues, and I would ALWAYS crash in games within 1 hr.

That being said, I called CP and they diagnosed it as a graphics card issues as all the problems were resolved when I ran with onboard video (this still remains true - onboard video causes ZERO problems to my computer / stabability).

Anyways, I RMA'd the GPU (AMD 7950) and received a new one. Installed the card, did a clean install of all drivers, and Voila, it worked PERFECT for about 5 days. No issues in games, no issues in Prime95 (ran it once for 40hrs +, no MemTest issues, etc).

However, all of a sudden (i.e.// I made no further changes to hardware/software), I noticed screen flickering, going to "Grey screens", random stripes on the screen, and the occasional BSOD (that i'll attach here).

In fact, when I install the latest AMD drivers (13.4 and tried BETA 13.5) the system is totally unstable and once I get past the windows login screen, it just crashes/freezes/can't see anything. If I do a clean uninstall of the drivers, this rectifies the "lock-out" and I can get back into the system (I..e.// like i'm typing now on this message).

Dear. X1 carbon users. I got a brand new X1 carbon 3rd gen and update to windows 10.But when I scroll up/down or move images, vertical lines are flickering all over the screen. Also, I can see these vertical lines flickering at the wall paper with gradations.I am not sure this is one of hardware problems because I update windows 10 righr after I got this.I updated recent intel graphics driver and all drivers using 'lenovo pc experience'.(Actually I tried to instal newest driver on intel website but failed because this is not a manufacturer's version.)Please let me know how I can fix this. Thank you.

I had been having some strange issues with my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro since recent Windows 10 updates. These include a flickering blue "busy" circle next to my mouse cursor on the screen and a "jumping" notification bar on my taskbar at the bottom of the screen (which is apparently caused by something trying to launch a notification and then failing). After much trial and error, I finally solved the problem when I uninstalled Cortana from my computer. Unfortunately, this isn't easy to do as Windows makes it difficult to disable. I followed the instructions provided here to do it: http://www.howtogeek.com/265027/how-to-disable-cortana-in-windows-10/ If you are having the same very weird issues, I suggest you try this! Good luck!

Hello everyone,

I've been reading in this board for a while, but I felt the need to take action as well now because of a problem I have been experiencing for some time now.

I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and in some applications (e.g.: Windows Notepad, Registry Editor, Task Manager), I experience extreme flickering of some window elements. For example, when trying to resize the column sizes on top of the values in the registry editor, the text flickers constantly while pulling them with the mouse. A similar effect occurs sometimes with the mouse pointer when I'm trying to rename files in the explorer, especially while trying to rename elements in the favorites list on the left - the pointer seems to disappear randomly when any key is pressed, but not every single time I press a key. Also, the tabs in the task manager will flicker when trying to resize the window while in the "performance" tab.

This does not only happen with windows applications, also with other programs. I am a media design student and similar flickering occurs in the UI of Adobe InDesign while typing (the font-size selection boxes on top and the color-picker randomly start to flash white or disappear for a fraction of a second and then just reappar while typing). Other programs however show no signs of this issue at all, for example Firefox, Winamp, LibreOffice or any games I have tested so far.

I have done many searches for a solution to this problem, but could not find an answer yet... Read more

Hi. My computer has just started to act up on me. When I turn it on & it begins to boot, the screen begins to flicker until it defaults to the blue screen w/ the following messages:

STOP: OX00000008E/OX800000003/OXF74EE0EE/OXED02789C

F74EE0EE base at F74E6000

date stamp 480252C2

I reboot in safe mode fine. I then go back to the normal mode & the problem begins all over again. What does this mean? Thx much.

A:Flickering screen to blue screen warnings

A Stop OX8E BSOD, is usually caused by hardware failure. Either it is faulty RAM or a bad PSU. Download Memtestand make a Boot disc out of that and boot off of the boot disc you created and run the tests. Test each RAM stick individually, by taking one out if you have more then one. Alos go into the Bios and check the voltages, temps and fan speeds and post here.

Hi, I love the Yoga 2 Pro. But i have fews issues with it. Especially when used on battery. My screen flicker from time to time. The onyl fix i found was to close the lid to put the laptop to sleep and the reopen it. Not very convinient. An other issue I encounter is the screen blanking after a while when the computer is not in use. It's like the computer blank the screen to save battery power, but when you want to reuse it again, it won't start again. THe only fix is to hard reset the computer (eg : press 10s the power button) I am running a fresh clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro with all the Lenovo Drivers up to date (exept the BIOS one) If you could help me fix my issues. I think it's software related.Do you think i should put the BIOS update ? Does anybody ever try with a clean windows 8.1 install ? Thanks a lot,Romain

Hello there,

So lately when i have been playing games on my laptop the computer crashes but does not bsod. Instead the screen turns yellow with brown pixels streaking across the screen. The sound continuously clips on the last thing that was played and i am forced to reboot my computer. Also my computer is significantly slower than it was in the past. For example at one point i could play Starwars FU2 on highest graphics and experience little fps problems. Now I find I need to lower graphics settings on even some of the less demanding games. I first encountered this problem about a month ago so i just reformatted and reinstalled windows 7 thinking that i could get rid of any issues quickly and for good. Upon reinstalling a few barebone drivers and updates from windows and my graphics card driver I started gaming again. To my dismay more of the same yellow screen. It seems as if this is some kind of hardware issue. I have ran memtest x86 for 10+ passes and there were no errors. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi sydneyrocks18,8 and welcoem to TSG.

Your screen may be loosing the Blue color signal; causing the remaining red and green signals to form yellow.

I hope someone can help me. My screen has a yellow tint to it, and it doesn't appear to be the monitor as when I turn it off and back on, there is no colour problem. Windows starts up in the right colours as well........any ideas?

A:Yellow screen

Does your screen freeze when it has got the yellow tint? If you are getting it with a screen freeze, it can be RAM , or the video card.

My computer screen turns a yellowish annoying color after signing on to the internet. It does not seem to do that before I sign on. U can still see everything on the page, just everything has a yellow tint to it. I have windows xp.

A:yellow screen

Firstly I'd check all connections are properly seated. Maybe check your graphics card is seated properly and that it's drivers are current.

Also, whilst connected to the internet and the yellowness appears, try reducing the colour depth to 16bit.

What kind of monitor is it? Is it old?

I've had this before - the monitor was shot!
