Tip: Speed Up Windows 7 By Turning Off Fade and Animation Options!

Q: Tip: Speed Up Windows 7 By Turning Off Fade and Animation Options!

Hey All,

This is an excellent tip for Windows 7 users. Other versions of Windows may have similar ways to disable the fade and animation menus, but these steps will be for Windows 7. Note that by default, Windows turns on a lot of menu fade in and out controls when programs and menus are opened and closed. They may look cool, but they also consume tons of memory, can be unnecessarily trying on the CPU, and consume computer resources that can be better used for your system elsewhere:

To Disable These Animations and Fades:

1.) Click the Windows Start Button Icon.
2.) type the word "fade" (no quotes) in the search box
3.) select change the appearance of Windows from the list of choices. Click on that list.
4.) A dialogue box opens. These are your appearances and theme choices for how programs, menus, and other selections that are set by default in Windows 7.
5.) Click on the Customize Radio Button.
6.) Uncheck All items that say they word "Fade", "Animation", or any form of the word animate in them.
7.) Click Apply
8.) Click OK
9) Now close out of everything and try to open up your programs, such as your browser, Office Programs, Folders, right-clicking. Everything will open up about twice as fast because animation and fade options are all turned off!

Preferred Solution: Tip: Speed Up Windows 7 By Turning Off Fade and Animation Options!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi @ all... Is it possible to adjust the anmination speed of the minimizing, maximizing, snap-feature and so on? Perhaps something like changing a value in the registry which sets the animation time in milliseconds? Thanks for all solutions... Greetz -Osiris-

A:Windows 7 - Adjust Animation Speed?

Hi -Osiris-,

Based on my knowledge, we cannot change the animation speed of the minimizing, maximizing, snap-feature. However, it is possible to set the Aero Peak desktop preview delay time. To do this, please refer to the steps below:

1. Click the "Start" button, type "regedit" (without quotation marks) in the "Search" bar, right click on the "regedit.exe" found in the list and then click "Run as administrator".

2. Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

3. Right click the Advanced entry on the left pane, choose "Export", select "Desktop" in the "Save in" box and type "backup" (without quotation marks) in "File Name". Click "Save".

Please Note: The backup file is on the Desktop and named "backup.reg". We can simply restore the registry by double-clicking the "backup.reg" file.

4. Right click on the Advanced entry on the left pane, choose "New" -> "DWORD".
5. Rename the DWORD as DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime.

6. Double click the newly created DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime, choose Decimal and change its value to the one you desired.

NOTE: Remember the value should be given in milliseconds, so if you want to set the delay time to 5 seconds, set the value to 6000.

7. Log off the user account or restart the computer to take effect.

I have one clip in the timeline.

too long; didn't read: I (2nd year CS Student) am looking for a way to increase the animation speed or disable the animation of the Logitech SetPoint "Application Switcher" Button on windows 7?

Hi All!

First off, I found this community by accident while looking for some tips and tricks! I registered and am curious to see if maybe I can receive some help or a pointer in the right direction with my issue (because it's not really a problem).

So, at home I have my windows 10 and use the M705 Logitech Mouse with the thumb-button configured to show my application switcher (Shows open Applications on current desktop and at the bottom a list of virtual desktops), which I LOVE.

Que coming to work. "Here's your windows 7 laptop."

... "thank you?" I do get it, security is important and they have it set up specifically to tailor their needs, so, while a tad disappointing, I understand why.

Anyway, I'm setting things up the way I like it and found that the windows 7 application switcher (ALT+Tab) isn't really that fantastic. I installed the SetPoint from Logitech because my mouse is more comfortable and was surprised to find that they had implemented a type of application switcher for windows 7! All in all, it works like a charm. The only downside being is that the animation is quite slow.

I've been souring the Interwebs for a secret setting and the install files for a config file to adjust but with little (I mean none at this point) ... Read more

When switching on power to my computer I find the mobo led lights and the fan over the processor starts to turn but then the power fades and the fans stop. As I am new to DIY computer repair can anyone confirm for me my suspicions ( from reading articles on the web), that my problem is a failed PSU and I should replace it ?

Thank you for your time in responding
My system specs are in my profile

Also any recommendation on what to replace the psu with if indeed I do need to replace it.

Regards

A:When turning power on fans start but then fade -- do I need to replace PSU?

We cannot give you many helpful comments based on what little you have told us. Resubmit with the model number, or the motherboard information with configuration for hard drive, memory installed, power supply, etc... and how long you have had it... along with the history of how well it has worked. If you know the hard drive, post that as well.

It could be dust and dirt in the CPU fan or cooler, old hard drive that is wearing out. Inadequate memory for todays machine,
The more you tell the participants of this list, the more helpful we will be in rooting out the problem.
On first look, it could be a failed power supply or failed hard dreive, or overheating CPU.

I apologize in advance for this being a long post.

After trying many fix options, I decided to try a forum. I have internet through Xfinity. My internet plan is supposed to be hitting speeds of up to 200mbps (megaBITS not megaBYTES), yet on their official speed test site, my speed is at about 95mbps at its peak. I even bought a new cable modem, since I heard xfinity has speed throttles that slow down your speed on their modems they provide you with. So, I had a technician come to my house, he saw me run the speed test on my laptop. IMMEDIATELY afterwards, I watched him run a speed test on his laptop from the same website, and his speed clocked in at about 186mbps. In BOTH cases, on BOTH laptops, the internet connection was WIRED ETHERNET, and NOT wireless, and BOTH our laptops were hooked into my cable modem, and the speed tests were not running simultaneously. Difference was, he was running windows 7 on his laptop. I am running windows 10 home edition. He told me he has had 4 internet speed complaints in a month, and they were all from people who ran windows 10. He concluded it was an issue with my laptop or windows 10 itself.

My laptop originally ran windows 8.1, and I upgraded to windows 10. However, I'm fairly certain my internet speed was the same before upgrading to windows 10, if I remember correctly, but I could be wrong. So I'm assuming it's because of Windows 10, since the technician had twice the internet speed sitting right next to me. I would re... Read more

Hi,

This is all generally centered around my music folder, all the songs are in one folder because thats what works best for me. My problems are as follows:

When I right click I get several options for Windows Media Player, I want none of them, I hate it, I only use Winamp and WMP never gets touched, how do I get rid of this.

Also when I right click I get options for Winamp, all I really want is Play (the default double click for a music file) and enque in winamp.

Also, all the files in the folder all have the same winamp icon, why then, when I scroll across to view more songs does it take its sweet time loading them? The songs have the loading icon until the winamp one finally replaces it. Its rather annoying.

Any way to fix these annoyances? Thank you.

Note: If I leave the folder open for a while I can zip back and forth between all the music files and all the icons will be loaded and theres no lag whatsoever....

Second Note: Is this edit feature new? It's awesome!

Hi,

Despite "turn hard disk after" set to 10 minutes (or less for testing) in Power Options, HDDs won't turn off at all. They used to until yesterday. I have made no changes to the system only updated NVidia driver, but I can't tell if the issue started after update or not.

I've checked disk activity via performance monitor and there is small (approx. 100kb/sec), but constant activity on drive C: which is SSD. Most of it comes from System PID4. Again, I am not sure if this is causing the issue.

Any help would be appreciated. I am super sensitive to sound and HDD not being turned off makes me very tired in very short time.

Thank you.

Hi,

I know this has been asked a million times on the web already but its seriouslly annoying me now.

Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) keeps turning the monitor off after 15 Mins of in-activity.

However - before it does that at 14 Mins and 30 Seconds it sorta does a quick flash - then at exactlly 15 mins does the turning off.

All the power options are set to Never. (I have even created my own power plan for this)

I have never had this problem on this PC before - this is a new install - and since then it has been doing this.

(That makes me reluctant to think its the BIOS or Video Card)

Any ideas would be most welcome?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Folks! I have posted this issue regarding overheating and throttling even before but nobody could answer me right. As the title say, my laptop fan does not climb up to the max speed to prevent throttling. Before anyone would say me anything, I would like to tell you* I have tried cleaning in and out of my laptop*   have upgraded to the latest BIOS, Video Drivers and been using Windows 10 with Latest Updates. Now the only fault I can see here is the fault from the HP softwares part which is not cranking up the fan when needed. I particularly blame HP for this. I have a NVIDIA GT 740M and its a brilliant GPU for decent gaming, but have been suffering due to overheating since bought in 2014. However, when updating BIOS with HP Bios Update Utility, the fan does actually cranks up making sound which makes it clear that the fan is working properly. I hope to see accurate and maybe advanced answers to this because I have already tried all common stuffs.

Hi, I have a problem with my IBM T43 (OS: WindowsXP SP3), when I expanded the Windows START, expand menus on other application (e.g. Outlook, IE, office, etc), they are appearing in slow motion (like the "fade in" animation in Powerpoint).
Most likely all windows based application is affected.

Facts:
1. My HDD is not full (19,3GB free space) and I have 2GB RAM
2. No error message / warning message
3. The error is occurred only when I do the expanding, the overall system is running fast (e.g. Run application, alt-tab, open new window, etc)
4. I started to experience this after I had reinstalled my Windows, so I assume there might be the video drivers, CMIIW.

I had tried to do these following actions with no luck:
1. Update the video adapter drivers with the oldest till the latest driver I found in IBM official page (I was running Windows in safe mode while updating the video driver)
2. Replace my HDD with another HDD
3. Reinstall Windows (XP SP2, SP3)

Do you have any suggestions how to fix this issues?
Thanks beforehand.

But I've noticed that at the end of each song, the green progression line quickly goes back from a few seconds and then starts at the begining of the new song. It's like it knew it had to fade out, but wasn't able to do it. Since I had a few codecs problems (missing Windows codecs due to a codec pack removing) I think it could be linked. A:Menu fade or slide in Windows 7. How to change?

There really isn't any place in the UI to adjust this in Windows 7. What you can do ensure a Fade is used is go to Control Panel --> System --> Advanced System Settings and then click on the Advanced tab and under Performance click on Settings. Ensure that the "Adjust for best appearance" radio button is selected. If not, select it. If it is already selected, move it to another selection then select it again and hit "ok". Sometimes, the slide effect is automatically activated when the computer is overworked but either logging off and on or rebooting will fix this.

Windows 10.
If I use the Windows Key-X, or click on the windows icon and do a right click, the menu items are displayed but only a few of the menu items actually then do anything if they are selected.
For example clicking on the Control Panel - nothing happens.
If the type Control Panel in the taskbar search box - control Panel is displayed and clicking on that displays the Control Panel.
It was working fine, then suddenly stopped.
I have also tried logging in to another account but the same problem exists.
Any idea how I can get the Windows Key-X menu options to be reset - I have tried a restart, but no change.

Best regards

Martin

Every now and then while browsing, my work is interrupted in my browser with the message that I can't connect to a proxy. Checking my internet options in the LAN settings shows that it keeps turning on the proxy option with a proxy IP of 127.0.0.1. After some research I learned this was a virus meant to steal my information by rerouting my browsing through a proxy. I have tried several services to remove it, be it ESET, MalwareBytes, JunkRemover, AdwCleaner, and even deleting certain registry entries which just come back. None helped as they don't detect any viruses or malware. Turning the proxy option off fixes the problem for about an hour before it comes back and turns the option on again. I use a 64x Windows 10 system, so ComboFix doesn't work. The log is as follows:

A:Internet Options keeps turning on Proxy for all Internet connections

I've noticed this in the whitelisted section: ProxyServer: [S-1-5-21-1993721000-4116074352-2927827119-1001] => http=127.0.0.1:8895;https=127.0.0.1:8895.

Considering that it is the ip address for the proxy hijack virus, I'm assuming that it's important.

Hello,

I have an ASUS P5E-VM HDMI mobo and running Windows 7 Professional. The mobo has a VGA and HDMI and dual monitor capabilities. I have my computer monitor on VGA and my TV on HDMI. When I have both monitor and TV connected, I lose the Windows 7 startup animation. It uses the Vista animation instead. When I have just the computer monitor alone, on VGA or HDMI, the Windows 7 animation comes back. How can I make the Windows 7 be used even if both monitor and TV are connected? I know it's a small thing but I like that animation.

A:Windows 7 animation

Sounds weird. With my computer when booting with a TV plugged in, the second screen gets a signal, but remains blank. I know other people have complained about getting the Vista load screen instead of 7's do to weird configurations. I'll look around and post back later. Let us know if you find anything in the mean time.

When you move a windows (of an app, explorer, etc..) you can see it moving around. Now when i try moving any windows, it doesn't move, i just see the rectangle of it's shape moving, that's all... Aero is still active and working/ Usually that happens when too many apps are loaded (lack of ram?) but i did reboot, i did wipe caches, still same...

A:Moving windows animation gone, how to fix?

Check this box is still ticked
