Monitors and TV flickering when using GTX1060 DisplayPort

Q: Monitors and TV flickering when using GTX1060 DisplayPort

Hello Tech Support Guys, I have this problem for a while now and I need your assistance.
I have a GTX1060 6gb and anything I try to plug in my 3 displayports flickers, 'goes blackscreen' and shows a lot of tearing. It happens in and out of games. It doesn't happen on the DVI or the HDMI ports.

I do have a monitor that supports both HDMI and displayport, but since I use a VR headset, having to plug and unplug the HDMI cable to use VR is annoying (Oculus CV1 uses HDMI). Also, freesync would be great.

My progress so far:
**I have noticed that, the lower the resolution on the monitor (and the refresh rate), the better the displayport performs. "Great" at 1024 x 768 resolution. It's a usefull trick to use while playing in VR.
**already tried two displayport cables and two displayport to hdmi adapters.
**already tried using DDU to reinstall my nvidia drivers

Anyone have any idea of what is happening?
Are my 3 displayports damaged?
Should I keep using the displayport or is it a risk for my monitor?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

After having worked for more than 1 year in double screen, I started to have flickering problem on the external monitor, connected from mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort on an external ThinkVision Monitor.I do not know how to troubleshoot. Below is a video of the issue. As a hint that the card might have some problem, sometimes the PC takes about 30 seconds to decide the graphic mode when the screen is turned on.I would like to understand how to troubleshoot the issue, determine if it can be- hardware failure (pin, chip damaged)- driver failure (but I have driver at level 10.18.14.4432 which seems the latest)and understand what should be repaired.any suggestion is very welcome, thanks for your attention, xgiannak

Greetings everyone!

This is my very first post and I come with a question. I am looking into purchasing a refurb Dell 990 SFF for basic home usage (spreadsheets, word processing, internet...no gaming or graphic/audio intensive use). The onboard graphics and Displayport is an integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 with a Displayport 1.1a output. I currently have a monitor with Displayport in but no Displayport out so I can daisy-chain. What is the best strategy for connecting second monitor? Is the native DP 1.1a out splittable for extended desktop? Do I need to buy a DP splitter external peripheral? I should note the additional output options include an old VGA out; all USBs are 2.o. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I'm wondering if it's possible to have a dual monitors on the HP ProDesk 400 G2.5 using both the VGA and DisplayPort at the same time. Will this allow me to extend the display to both monitors? If not, what will I need to purchase to gain this capability? Thanks,John

A:Using VGA in conjunction with DisplayPort for dual monitors ...

The VGA port and Display Port perform the same function just in different ways.  VGA is analog and Display Port is digital.  Unfortunately, it's not going to work the way you think.  You will be looking at the same information on two different monitors without the ability to drag and drop from one to the other.  In order to have a true dual monitor experience, you would need to purchase an inexpensive video card like the VisionTek Radeon PCI card which is specifically designed for this functionality.  This is due to the fact that the dual monitor ability has to be configured via the software that comes with the stand alone card. I hope this helps.

I know that this is a year old, but I have a problem with my monitors. I have 2 DVI monitors and 2 DisplayPort monitors. For some reason, Control Panel -> Screen Resolution shows it as 2, 3, 1, 4, but when I click on Identify, they show up as 1, 3, 2, 4. The DisplayPort monitors have the wrong enumeration numbers compared to the screen resolution page. This also causes issues on my Virtual Box as Virtual Screen 1 shows up as Host Screen 1 and Virtual Screen 2 shows up as Host Screen 3. This related to 2 and 3 respectively as per the Screen Resolution page.

What's going on here and how do I fix this mess?

Thanks,
A

Ok...I am having problems with DisplayPort. My home HP ProDesk 600 G1 DM w/ 12Gb RAM running Windows 7 64bit and (Intel HD Graphics 4600) has two HP LA2306x monitors. The HP monitors are connected via two DisplayPorts

Problem 1: But when I power off the monitors but leave the computer running, Windows 7 losses all my desktop settings. All my icons and open windows default over to the primary screen. I have been dealing with this for two years now...when I power them back on I must move all my windows around again. Its very annoying.

I have read various threads on how to resolve this but none of them work for me.

A) I can't change the EDID setting for my Intel 4600 graphics card (if I can, I can't figure out where)
B) I have gone into the monitor menu settings and disabled the DDC/CI Support on both monitors
C) I have changed the computers power mgmt settings to NOT sleep, hibernate or anything of the sort

Problem 2:
The above really drives me nuts. However, now a new issue has occurred and the driving me nuts has turned into driving me mad. I have an external hard drive connected to this computer, I am running Samsung's SmartView so my TV can access all the movies/tv shows on that hard drive. When I power off monitors, my TV can no longer see/access the SmartView app and/or the external hard drive.

So if I am downstairs and want to stream a movie from this external hard drive, I must go back up stairs and power on the monitors.

I know I am not... Read more

I have two 27" 2560x1440 60hz monitors that are plugged into the new Pro side-connect dock (40AH) with a new T480 (Intel 620 integrated graphics) in Windows 10 Pro. I can get either monitor to work fine with the dock individually, but trying to run both simultaneously by extending or duplicating the desktop between them seems to fail as selecting either option under Display Settings just makes the primary monitor black out for a few seconds then come back - the secondary monitor stays black.  There's no error msg or popup that would help me investigate further unfortunately. I'm trying this with the T480's lid closed, and I'm running the latest 1.14 BIOS update and latest Intel HD graphics drivers. This setup worked fine on my old OneLink dock and X1 Carbon previously, so I don't think it's an issue with the monitors themselves. Anyone have a similar setup with the new Pro dock that's working?

Having received a brand-new P51 directly from Lenovo, i am facing major issues attaching external monitors.Win10 image from factory, all windows updates, all driver updates as recommended by Lenovo companion. Manually reinstalled graphics drivers, driver update using windows does not detect newer ones. Latest BIOS (1.15). Upon suggestion of lenovo changed BIOS mode from hyprid to discrete.I have these two issues from day 1:When i attach a monitor using the right hand side mini displayport, it is not recognized. Monitor stays in stand-by, no sound played, nothing happens. Inserting the same cable into the port of a W540 (Win 8.1) monitor immediately wakes up and can be used up to its full resolution (3440x1440).inserting laptop into ultradock (230W) it only recognizes one attached monitor. BIOS password entry lock was not shown on external monitor when lid was closed, needed to enter "blind" and press enter, only upon windows boot the monitor (Lenovo 27") was recognized. i think after changing to discrete mode now it showed the lock symbol when starting with closed lid. but still no second monitor is recognized. This is the first thinkpad in my history where such basic things do not work at all.I noticed once i had Intel and Nvidia context menu items when presing right mouse botton on desktop screen, now i only have "Nvidia Control Panel" and "nView Desktop Manager" shown. Which may or may not be ok. Lenovo seems not to be able to help - they are quite anxious to get it so... Read more

I have a Dell Latitude E7450 laptop with a E-Port Plus II port replicator connected to two external monitors using DisplayPort which will not output to multiple monitors.
I have another Dell model and when placed on the port replicator with two external monitors connected, booting into BIOS/UEFI the screen is cloned onto each monitor. However, when doing the same with a brand new Dell Latitude E7450 only one screen is active - the other is off. Within Windows itself, I can only have 1 monitor connected to the port replicator. If I undock, I can run 3 monitors independently indicating an issue with the dock rather than a hardware limitation with the laptop itself.
I believe the above tests eliminates the OS or driver issue and highlights a compatibility issue between the new Dell Latitude E7450 laptop and E-Port Plus II port replicator. I have tried this on 2 separate machines with the same results. I have also updated both the graphics drivers (Version 10.18.14.4170, A16) and the BIOS (Version A04) to the latest releases. I have also tried using DVI cables as well as swapping out the port replicators. Nothing works. In Windows 8.1 itself, it actually shows as two monitors active, but one is not on. If I swap out the monitors to a different brand, I get the same result.
Is there a BIOS/UEFI setting I need to change? Is there a newer port replicator or update I need?

So I am not a computer person, I should start by saying that. I recently bought 2 Dell refurbished optiplex 390 towers and 3 dell E2015HV 20 inch screens. I have set up the dual monitors and from the dell site and windows updated the drivers. The monitors are hooked up by one VGA cable and one VGA to HDMI converter. Still the screen labeled 1 is shutting off for a few seconds and then turning back on. It does it more if I don't have anything on the screen and will shut down for 5-6 seconds at a clip if i am not actively using it. It also does this 1-2 second shut off more often after its been in dormant for a period of time. I have been told most computers these days have 2 video cards or the power to handle 2 screens. Is there a way to find out if this one does not have the power to do support this? I was also told I may need to reseat my video card and have no idea what that means but, would find it odd that both of the setups have the exact same problem....Help that is a really annoying when I am try to do a bank reconciliation.

As of today (this has never been a problem before), after I have Starcraft 2 open, both of my monitors will start to flicker and eventually leads to non stop flickering until vertical/horizontal bars come out and the audio/video both crash, leaving me to restart (the os/hardware seems to be still responsive/on however).

I assume that this is a video card related issue because when my video card was overheating, it had similar symptoms. However, applying some silicon paste has resolved this relatively recent issue.

Specs:
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4770 (Driver Date: 5/24/2011)
OS: Windows XP 32 Bit
RAM: 4gb
Processor: Intel i5-750 quad core 2.66ghz
Monitor 1: Optiquest Q2201wb
Monitor 2: Acer B203w
Resolution: 1650x1050

When I close SC2 the problem goes away, I assumed this was an overheating issue, but that's not the case. I checked the temperatures of both my video card and processor and they're both around 60 degrees celcius.

I assume this is a video card problem also because since I have two monitors, if it was a monitor issue I imagine that only the faulty monitor would be flickering, instead of both.

Software wise, nothing has changed since before this problem (yesterday). Hardware wise, everything's still the same. After googling for a bit, there was a suggestion about having too many things on one outlet, this may be the case for me and as of last night I recently added a small fan to the outlet to help cool the room, but once I thought of this I tu... As you have two monitors of different makes and therefore specs this will be a pain to fix, I fear.
First have a look in msconfig (keyboard window key + R, and type in msconfig and then enter). Check the startup tab and look for any reference to ATI drivers being preloaded - if you see them take the tick out of the box, click OK and restart when prompted.
If that is no good, come back to us.

I've got a built desktop with integrated graphics on the motherboard. It has a DVI output and VGA output, both in use. At first the left screen with flickering a lot right when I booted it up in the morning. I swapped out the cable with a spare thinking it could have been a bad cable (theres nothing around here to cause interference). Still flickering, I swapped it with a spare monitor of the same size. Now the left monitor isn't flickering, but the right one is going completely black occasionally. The monitor is on but the image is black. I updated the Intel HD graphics driver through windows update thinking it was a bad driver but are signs pointing to faulty hardware? Any advice on this problem would be great as it's being quite bothersome.

Edit: I can post a DXDIAG / speccy information later but I can't access the machine at the moment.

Are there any adapters to do this or ways to do this? I can't seem to find any.

I am buying new monitors, the dell u2414h. Now, while this does have hdmi, I will be connecting multiple monitors together to extend the display from the laptop to give me multiple screens. The problem with this is that it only works if you use displayport and not hdmi, so I need a way to convert the hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

I will primarily be using these monitors with my laptop that has displayport, so that is why I am getting these monitors and that won't be a problem. I will most likely hook up other laptops to the monitors and hdmi is way more common from what I have seen on laptops than displayport and is why I need a way to go from hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

Any ideas? Thanks.

A:Hdmi to Displayport/Mini Displayport

You can't, HDMI does not support daisy chaining in the manner that DisplayPort does and you can't use a simply adapter to go from HDMI to DisplayPort and get the features of DisplayPort.

@jasonkretzer?, welcome to the forum. The problem that you are experiencing is caused by the fact that the motherboard doesn't have UEFI.  It has to be a ver. 8 BIOS.  The GTX 1060 requires UEFI.  There is no way to upgrade the BIOS to UEFI.  The last  video cards not to require UEFI were the GTX 660/670's. MSI does make some of their models with a switch that will allow the cards to be used with either Legacy or UEFI.  The one that I know for certain that has it is the GTX 750Ti.  You can contact their Tech Support for help with choosing the best card for your computer. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Hi  I recently wanted to upgrade the graphics, and I could not find too much info online about whether GTX1060 graphics would be compatiable with this model or not. So I plan to just try. Apparently, zotac gtx 1060 is much thicker than the slot allowed. It physically does not fit. I read online saying the tower model power supply should be OK though. I searched online about the M900 specs, the best graphics it stated supported was GT720 which wasimpossible to run some 3D games. I am very ocasionally gamer, however, I still would like to try some popular games. This time is play unknown battleground. I bought think center because I expect a reliable and long lasting desktop. Now I am very regreting of it because the best graphics it would support is not even close to support such a game. I looked at options to connect to an external GPU, however it would cost so much that I should just buy a new computer. Anyways, it is bad day for me. Please let me know if you have some idea what I can do about it. thanksyic

I have IdeaCentre 300s-11ish. I want to change the graphics card of gt730 to gtx1060. However, the case of the computer is so small that I can't put the cover back. How can I install the graphics card? Do I need to buy a bigger case? If yes, are there any suggestions for me?

Hi! I just upgraded to Win8 this weekend and so far I really like it. I discovered something this morning that now that the weekend is over is bugging the crap out of me and I need help. I work from home and use this alot so it would be helpful.

I am trying to do a couple things I could easily do in 7,
- have Chrome open in both monitors at once with different things on them.
- currently Chrome has no minimize/maximize buttons on the upper right like it used to. Makes it very hard to multitask.

I have 2 monitors, the main is a 23" touch screen and the second is an 18" non-touch screen.

Also, is there a way to have the taskbar to appear at the bottom always like it used to?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help!

A:Windows 8 Dual Monitors, need help having browser open in both monitors

Answered my own question. Google Chrome was showing in App mode. When I downloaded Chrome for 8 there is an option to have it show in desktop mode and the taskbar, minimize/maximize, and multi window option came back. YAY.

Now if someone could tell me why windows 8 won't fill the screen at the resolution recommended for my 23" monitor I'd be good!

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 9600 video card. It's been working properly for quite awhile and now suddenly the cursor moves to the second monitor when I drag the cursor beyond the bottom of the first monitor.

It used to go from one monitor to the other by dragging it from left-to-right. I can't figure out what caused it to start doing this or how to go about getting it back to the way it was before. Any ideas how to change it back. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

A:Dual Monitors - cursor changes monitors vertically instead of horizontally

Display Properties - Settings - Drag the monitors to side-by-side position with the mouse, it thinks they are one obove the other.

Over the last 6 months I purchased my teen son a Creative DVD Drive for his Compaq Presario as well as a Creative Audigy MP3+ Sound Card and the Creative/Cambridge DTT3500 6 Speaker Dolby 5.1 Sound System .... {the things kids get today ... you can send your donations to .....} ... Anyway, he was the basic 15" Compaq Monitor that came with the system and of course he is now nagging me that this monitor "is a heap of crap & how do you expect me to enjoy all this great stuff you bought me with this tiny monitor when I am trying to watch Britney Spears Concerts ....." ..... So my question to you all is that, if I ever pay off Visa, and can purchase him a new monitor, I want to purchase the largest, best quality for the dollar monitor I can afford ($1.25)
What do you suggest? What is the scoop with the Flat Monitors he is driving me nuts with? How do LCD monitors measure up?
Please keep in mind that my main concern is his viewing of DVD's, Music Video Files (Mpeg) that he downloads & the zillion games he has. According to the specs on his Presario (Model 5BW130) ... he has an Intel Celeron T 667MHz 66MHz Bus Speed, 64 RAM (yes I will double that to 128 via Crucial.Com ASAP), GRAPHICS=Intergrated Direct AGP Graphics - 64 bit hardware accelerated 3D graphics, Maxium non-interlaced resolution of up to 1600x1200 (when supported by monitor).

If you require any additional information please advice!

Thank you in advance for your time & effort!
