Dell D630 laptop with Windows 7 - WiFi w/lan network card fault

Q: Dell D630 laptop with Windows 7 - WiFi w/lan network card fault

Please help. I have Dell D630 Laptop, was Vista, then 7, ( has been running Win 10 successfully on Wireless) Started showing problems on boot-up, but always got started using the network troubleshooter. Then Total failure. I've re-installed a clean copy of win 7, same disk works sucessfully on another Dell 1545. I've had the w/lan module out, cleaned the connectors with electrolube, but booting-up, doesn't recognise w/lan. How do I go about further troubleshooting. I can do quite a bit but 76 year old silvery. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I switched my Dell Latitude D630 on yesterday morning and the WiFi light wasn't lit, and I am unable to connect to any network. I'm completely baffled why this has happened. I was using it the previous night, streaming some music on Spotify, then I turned it off as normal, and when I tried using the internet the next day...nothing. The bluetooth light is lit as normal but the WiFi light stays off, and I've tried turning the external switch on/off to no avail.

Can anybody suggest what might be causing this, or any remedies?

Many thanks.

I have a Dell Latitude laptop D630 running XPpro +SP3. When booting normally it will not load the desktop or run anything, but its wi-fi light stays on. It will boot in safe mode with a command prompt. I think it is infected with Trojans but don't know which ones. I would happily re-format it but I don't have any of the original disks. Can it be rescued?

I reinstalled WIN XP on a Dell D630 laptop. Here are my problems:
1. Can not connect to the internet because I do not have the correct ethernet controller driver. What driver do I need?
2. I believe I do not have the correct video driver because the display looks like it is in safe mode but it is not running in safe mode.

I see the drivers download on the dell site but so far the ones I have tried have not fixed my issues. I do not have the drivers blue dell disk that came with this machine.
Is there a package of drivers I can get that includes all the required drivers?

I've just added an SSD to my Latitude D630, and also put Windows 8.1 64-bit on it (still in evaluation mode). Ultimately, the intention is to move to Windows 10, but I can't do that until I actually purchase Windows 8.1.
When I start up, Wifi sometimes works and sometimes doesn't - maybe about 50-50. When it doesn't work, I can get it working by going into Network Connections and disabling - re-enabling WiFi.
I've updated the BIOS to A19. I can't install any of the Dell drivers for D630, as they don't support Windows 8. Device Manager indicates "Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN" for the name of the network adapter, and driver version
Any idea why this might be happening, and what I could do about it?
Thanks - Calum

A:Latitude D630, Windows 8.1 - WiFi not always working

Unfortunately, you will be needing the Windows 8.1  Wifi and Network card drivers for this computer. You also may need other Windows 8.1 drivers. Dell does not have any Windows 8.1 drivers available for the Latitude D630 Notebook. You can click the link below and view some of the YouTube videos on wifi issues in Windows 8.1 that may help resolve the wifi issue.

I tried to use his system restore but that didn't work. I can boot in safe mode and tried there but according to the system his only restore point was set after this error occurred. I have read that it can be caused by a number of things, from ram failure to other hardware failure to a virus that does it. Also that certain programs will do it too.
He hasn't installed any new software or hardware and I can't detect a virus(although he does surf porn sites whether he will admit to it or not). Also he has no disks for it whatsoever. He said it never came with any and that he never even knew about making back-up disks. He does however have a bad battery as it told me that in the BIOS when I went in to change the boot order so that I could boot from floppy or cd first. He also doesn't have his papers with his product key on it either.

Right now what it is doing is circleing in safe mode. What I mean is that it loads, then tells you you are in safe mode would you like to continue, I click yes, It loads the screen and his icons. Here is a bump for this post.

[edit] Your events logs while in safe mode may give more info about errors. Do not include duplicate errors if you post the info. Detailed info in the report beyond the initial summary section is already captured in the summary section. [/edit]

It appears that you are not hindered by a password for the hard drive.

OEM computers often have Recovery Partition on the hard drive and it is accessible from the initial burst screen (screen message directs you to depress the correct key). This will put you back to out-of-the-box conditions. You lose all personal files and applications. Sometimes the recovery software only reloads XP and saves a copy of the c: drive (you need to be skillful to use this to recover out-of-support applications).

OEM computers usually permit making one copy of the Recovery CD, which is equivalent to the Recovery Partition. Based on you description, this may not succeed. Dell probably has its own directory for tools.

At some point in time you will need that cmos battery for the mobo.

Hello, seem to be having a rather serious issue with my laptop lately. It seems to be occasionally going through a sort of crash. First it "stutters", locking up, unable to move the mouse, if audio is playing it will loop. Then it just resets itself, as if crashing. There's been no consistency on to what causes it, or how often. Playing a Youtube video, running a virus scan, trying to reinstall the network driver, or even just trying to open up the network center in control panel. Sometimes it will go ten minutes, sometimes a couple hours before resetting itself. When it comes back, I no longer have any wireless network capabilities, and the network driver is missing. The icon displays a box, rather then a wifi symbol, with a red 'x', and says "No connections available". Resetting it again seems to fix it, but some times it takes a a few tries. And sometimes it seems I lose just my wireless network capabilities, without a crash (something that happened while writing out this post). The icon stays a wifi symbol, but with a red x. No one else in my household is having any issues, and my phone connects just fine. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless driver, but that doesn't seem to work. I reset the modem, of course, but that didn't solve it. I ran a diagnostic with the Dell Support Assist, but it said it passed and detected no issue. Only solution I've found seems to be to restart it, and hope it takes a while before it ... Read more

Hi all,

I have a DELL D630 installed with Win7 build 7600.16385.x86fre.win7_rtm.090713-1255
The DELL specs are : T7500 2GB NVIDIA Q135M. Latest Bios A16
Ever since the fresh install W7 will not restart, instead of restarting the Dell
will just break to power off after the shutdown procedure. All other power settings
seem just fine. Normal shutdown, Hibernate and Standby/Sleep work fine, even the CPU fan is perfectly controlled by windows. Already tried to boot in safemode, also checked the bios for power options, but there are none to control with the DELL. The DELL diagnostics is completely passed with succes. Even did a fresh install to double check. Anyone seen this before?

A:Windows 7 will not restart on DELL D630

If all else fails (assuming W7 was an OEM/supplied OS) try submitting a support ticket to Dell with your system support code... they're usually on the ball...

Should you have done an upgrade did you run the W7 report/advisor tool first?

I have a Dell Latitude D630 and Windows 8. The generic Windows sound driver made the sound for the laptop run, but not with the docking station. I installed the Sigmatel drivers for Windows Vista 32bit. They also worked for me on Windows 7. First, they didn't wanna install, but then I made a BIOS update from Revision A03 to A18 and it solved the problem. Now again I have sound for the laptop, but when connected to the docking station the following happens:
When I set the normal speakers as output: Sound starts to play through the speakers connected to the docking station, but aborts quickly (for example the Windows sound when changing the volume).
When I set the SPDIF out as output: No sound at all!

The Sigmatel website obviously doesn't provide drivers since it's not existant anymore. The audio business was sold to IDT, but the IDT Website sucks: Detailed descriptions of all sound cards, but no drivers at all!

There was an IDT modded drivers section on laptopvideo2go.com before, but unfortunately the project is dead. I can't even find the uploaded files anymore. Anyway, one doesn't know if it works for Win 8 at all.

Audio device:

I tried the following drivers from the Dell website already which according to Windows 8 work, but give me the described sound problem:
- 2Y0VM
- R153997
- R171788
- R171789
- R218148

Any ideas how I can get this to work?... Read more

I've had a Dell Latitude D630 for over 6 years. I bought a used Dell Latitude E6400 off eBay, but when I put the hard drive from my D630 in it, it would not boot into Windows. It would run until the colored balls started to rotate it would flash a quick blue screen of death and pop into the Window startup repair. The startup repair ran for a while but said it could be repaired, I thought it was fix, but it reboot and did the same thing again. Why. I'd like to use my old hard drive if possible. I had the startup repair pop up every once in a while on the D630, but it never was able to fix it and I didn't try a restore. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Windows Will Not Start After Moving Hard Drive from Dell D630 to E6400

It would help to list the specs of the two units for comparison.

Usually this is a driver problem. Try entering into Safe Mode via F8 as Windows begins to boot. If it works, disable any driver that doesn't pertain to the new machine. Especially critical is the video driver.

You can also try the VGA option at F8.

If not, access the bios of the two machines, and make sure the new machine is set to the same SATA setting - ACHI or IDE - as the original machine.

I have a Dell Latitude D630 laptop that really hasn't seen a lot of use but it has this problem:

If I press on the lower left Shift, Ctrl, Fn or Win key, the whole keyboard bottoms out and makes a ker-plunk sound once it unflexes. If I lightly touch the keys, everything's fine. With normal use, the annoying ker-plunk is there.

Is this something that can be fixed?

Thank you.

Just recently had an issue with intermittent conectivity to my WIFI router with my Dell XPS Laptop / Windows 7 OS. Started right after some Windows 7 updates. I reverted back and restored to previous settings and the problem would go away for a day +/- and then start up again. Would not even connect to the router and give local connectivity. 3 other laptops, 4 iphones, and 2 ipads had no problems connecting at all. I was out of ideas. While searching I came accross this post on Techguy.org (Thread is now closed) but I wanted to reach out to the @Kazanov and let them know I found out the problem and made some changes to the WIFI router that apparantly has fixed the problem. (3 weeks running with no issues). I will post original post at the end of this post.

To fix the problem I changed the CHANNEL on the WIFI router 'FROM AUTO' 'TO Channel 6'. A friend worked on a military base and managed over 100 wifi connections and he said that many times for a reason unknown to either of us, some laptops would not connect to channel 11,12,or 13 and these are the default channels for a WIFI router set to 'AUTO'. Just wanted to come back and post the solution to the post below. And if the Administrator can open the old thread back up and update it so @Kasanov knows the solution that would be great. Here is the original post by @Kasanov which is the exact same problem, computer, OS as I have:

AMD 1800
Win XP SP2
Motorola SB4200 Cable Modem
Realtek RTL8139 Ethernet card
Blueyonder ISP

My wireless internet connection WAS working fine. Then due to a temporarily faulty connection, I disconnected the network & connected the cable modem direct to the computer. That connection still works fine. But I haven't been able to restore the wireless network.

Now - when I connect the network - router to card & modem - the Realtek card no longer registers on Network Connections OR on Belarc Advisor OR on Device Manager - so the XP troubleshooter gets me nowhere. [I think the card DID register on at least 1/2 previous occasions when the network has been disconnected].

However there IS a light on the Realtek card at the back of computer when connected to the router.

And the router seems to be working ok when connected - Wireless/Internet Port/"1" lights all on.

But "ipconfig" from command prompt gets no result.

So what do I do to get my Realtek card registering & network working again? [Probably v. elementary but I can't figure it].

Many thx for any help.

In response to your recent query I would suggest you to go the DELL website update the chipset drivers and wireless drivers .You can do it by clicking on the link given below

Once it’s done click on start->Run-> type CMD type the command ipconfig then press enter and check whether you see any numbers in default gateway if you can see that then type the following command ping then the numbers. If you are not able to get reply after you ping might have issues with windows 7 .Please reply back with the findings.

But on other devices im able to connect to my wifi network just fine, only this laptop has issues unless i reboot my router with the laptop still on then im able to see my network until i restart my laptop again and have the same issue over again.

Im unsure if its a problem with my laptop or the router since the laptops able to connect to find other routers in my area. But at the same time my other devices are able to connect to this router. Also it's a Dlink DIR-826L

Hi everyone.

This past weekend I went out of town and took my Windows 7 laptop with me -- since I returned home, it has been unable to connect to my wireless network. Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption.

My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. It says "No Internet access."

I have tried:

-rebooting the computer
-unplugging and restarting the modem and router
-going to the command prompt and renewing my IP address with the command IPCONFIG/RENEW

None of this works.

Like I said, all other devices in my house connect to the wireless network with no problem. It's just this one laptop. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A:Windows 7 laptop with Atheros AR9285 network card can't connect to wireless network

Three things to try ...

If you have McAfee please see the sticky thread at the top of this (Networking) forum.

Disable encryption on the router and try to connect. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

Revert to a System Restore Point before the weekend.

So basically - as the subject says -
Having a brand new Dell XPS 15 9550

shows that current driver does not support hosted network,

Which is ridiculous in 2016 and for a laptop of this level and is basically a prerequisite to be Windows 10 approved.
So my question is DELL, what the ***? When do we get normal drivers?

Hi all,
ok I pulled a real boner and it has me going nuts. I bought a used Dell D630, the unit had/has a bios boot password. Well the price was good has an extended battery etc, clean machine etc. I thought what the hell I should be able to work around that! LOL wrong
anyways while trying different key strokes while booting I found a combo that did something. As the unit is booting I held the CTRL key down and mashed the 'D" key (not the delete key "D" as in Delta) a zilllion times, well the password screen came up with normal text except a now it showed a few garbage characters, ok it is doing something. I repeated the boot and mash three more times and finally came up with total googly gawk. Cool maybe I got somewhere, did a reboot with no mashing.....oop's NO video, unit lights up, drives come on back light comes on NO nothing no text no boot no post screen nothing!

Removed cmos battery, took out battery unplugged power held down the power button for minutes...walla nothing. It appears I bricked the unit? it wouldn't even boot up with a live cd. So now have I just flushed 150.00 down the toilet? from key combos? I even tried the external monitor that didn't work.....any ideas? Thanx all

If I leave it on overnight, downloading torrents, when I go to it in the morning I can't get it to come back to life. Hard drive light is slowly blinking so believe it is still downloading.

screen saver is (None).
power Options. when plugged in, turn off monitor after 15 Mins. turn off hard disks never. system standby after 20Mins.

hibernation is not enabled.
tried various key presses but can only ever manage a total shutdown.

What can I try next?

A:Dell D630 will not come out of standby?

Set "System Standby" to "Never" for those occasions when you want to download files overnight, otherwise the machine won't have enough power to run the network overhead.

My laptop connected perfectly months ago to my home wireless network. Then my son borrowed it to game on and changed settings to connect to his pc as a monitor or something. When he gave it back, i can click and see my home wireless listed, however, when I click connect it will not connect. The only way I can connect is by connecting an ethernet. I am disabled so sitting on the floor is getting hard. Can anyone help me get back to wireless again?
Yes, the wireless switch is slid on, on the side.
Yes, i have rebooted.
I have tried to restore to a previous point, however it only shows 2 recent dates....
Thanks for your help in advance.

First you need to contact that son of yours and give him a bit of your mind after he tells you what he changed.
He should come back and undo those changes.

Can you see the network name being listed in the wireless drop down?
Or any network in the drop down listing?

Hello... I'm hoping someone can help me out on this...

I replaced the LCD for the dell laptop since it was stepped on an broken. The computer worked perfectly before installing the new screen, except for the fact that you could only see on half the screen and the other half was shattered.

I bought the screen off of ebay using a part number and installed it. Now the united doesn't even power up. Nothing, completely dead. It was suggested that the motherboard fried and perhaps it was the wrong part... however it never turned on at all since. Not for a second or anything. Took it to another guy and he said the keyboard isn't hitting the power button and there should be a way to turn it on without the keyboard. Perhaps under the wifi? I can't find the switch, though it looks to me like its just on the keyboard. If so, is it possible that it's just the keyboard that was busted? I did remove it because I thought it was necessary though it turned out not to be.

Any help would be really great, as it appears as though I broke my bosses relatively new laptop. Thanks in advance.

A:Dell Latitude d630 No Power

Let's try the simplest thing first - are you sure you reconnected the keyboard when you reassembled the laptop? There is a small connector with a cable.

Dear All,

I have quite a big problem with my Windows Seven installation. I am using it on my Dell D630, which had XP and Vista previously. The thing is when I am on battery the battery meter on the taskbar does not display the correct value sometimes, and my laptop even hibernates without any notification or alert. The weird stuff is when I click on the battery meter it displays the correct values. When it is happening, Seven does not even recognize when I plug the charger in.
Any ideas what could be wrong? System specs: Dell D630 laptop, Core2 Duo 2GHz CPU, 2.5GB DDR2 533, 160GB HDD, Intel 965 chipset with GMA X3100. All drivers are the Seven default ones except for GMA X 3100, because the prerelease driver produces the infamous taskbar flickering error so I rolled back to version 7.x (theoretically for Vista).

Any help would be much appreciated,

What version of Windows 7? And have you checked power settings in the BIOS?

I'm using a Dell Latitude D630 computer with XP on a network and when I close the cover it doesn't talk to the network. I've checked and set all settings in XP, Bios, and the Registry for the laptop to stay on. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Control Panel - Power Options.

Since you have a laptop, there should be a setting that's associated with closing the lid.

Set it on "Do nothing", then apply the change, then restart the computer.

You might also want to set the power scheme on "Always on" and set all the other settings on "Never" and turn off hibernation.

I'm having a problem with my computer.
I haven't done anything out of the ordinary. The other day I was on my computer and all of the sudden a screen appeared over my current screen. It almost looked like a screen in a window but with a yellow color so I could still see the window I had open. It froze my computer and within 30 seconds, it had shut down. I tried to reboot the computer but it did not turn on.

I then took out the battery and put it back in, but nothing worked. About 30 minutes later it finally turned back on but within 10 minutes, the same thing happened. This happened another 4 times that evening.

The next day when I finally got the computer going for more then 15 minutes. I ran a full scan for the computer and for the internet. Everything came up negative.

I was wondering if anyone knows what this problem is and if so how to fix it.

Thank you so much.

What's a good SSD drive for a Dell D630?

40GB would be all I need, but it looks like there may not be much difference in the price between 40 @120gb.

Would this Kingston from eBay function properly in the Dell?

This is going to be a dual-boot, Win 7 and (probably) Linux Mint machine. The main thing with the Linux is I want a lightweight distribution which will run the Chrome browser and have access to the Ubuntu Software center. It seems like the Unity desktop is kind of a CPU cycle hog.

Thanks so much for your help,

40GB isn't really enough, I have a 30GB in a laptop and it's a constant battle to have free space on it.

While that drive from eBay should work with the D630, why bother with eBay and potential lack of warranty when you can buy from a retailer for less with free shipping: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W02KJ5977

I recently acquired a Dell Latitude D630. It only had one issue, the battery was bad. I can deal with that.

After having it and using it, working fine of course, for about a month or two it shuts down on its own and restarts. Thinking "okay, that's a bit weird but its working fine" I go back to browsing the web only to have my screen discolor to a shade of pinkish purple with a hint of the matrix and freeze up for a period of two minutes. Then it goes complete glitch and my screen flashes with an almost statically distorted image where it then tries to blue screen but the screen display is so messed up I can barely tell what it is.

And so I restart it. Nothing off or wrong when I login to my admin account. Everything works fine for ten mins tops while I am running a virus scan and a sys diagnostic. Near the end of the processes I run it does the same thing.

In normal boot, I can get 5 minutes top before it complete fritzes and restarts itself, after screen distorted images.

safe Mode with Networking works fine, when I can even connect to a network.

All I want to do is play a game or browse the web but I can't even do that now. Any and all ideas, fixes, etc would be greatly appreciated!!

Well...it seems even worse than I thought simply because now I can't get past the initial Dell Logo at the boot without a lit up black screen and that annoyingly persistent beep. With a slight opportunity for a beautiful, peaceful white screen to coun... Read more
