Preferred Solution: Upgrade G500 since 2020M to i7 3632QM?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have tried to upgrade an HP EliteBook 8470p from its default i5-3340M CPU to a i7-3632QM. Specifications (including thermal load, max. 35W in either cases) appear compatible, see i.e. http://ark.intel.com/products/71670/Intel-Core-i7-3632QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_20-GHz-BGA and http://ark.intel.com/products/71257/Intel-Core-i5-3340M-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz ). Upon booting with the new CPU however the screen remains blank, and only caps lock / num lock will blink together 3 times, then pause, then again blink 3 times and repeat. From the documation it seems that this error code refers to 'memory modules problems', even if the same RAM works flawlessly with the i5 CPU. If I place this latter back, everything works normally again. Is there some special requirement that the i7-3632QM upgrade must satisfy? The new CPU should be supported by the QM77 chipset, and be offered in some EliteBook models; I've also tried to update the BIOS to the latest 68ICF ver. F.62 release (April '15), without improvements. Could there be a whitelist for supported CPU's, may it be somehow bypassed? Thanks,--Al

Hello there, I own a Lenovo G500, a 2013 model, and I just bought a 2 x 4GB 1600 MHz Kingston HyperX DDR3L memory kit.I pulled the old 4 GB memory out and put the new cards in, but both my Windows 7 and the BIOS see only one of them, so the laptop only uses 4 GB of RAM.I tried putting the cards in one by one, the bottom slot works, but when I only use the top slot, the laptop does not boot. It's likely this is the problem, cause even CPU-Z only sees RAM in one of the slots and displays "Single Channel" running. My question would be: is there a possibility this is a software issue? Is there a way to enable dual channel? If not, could this be a motherboard issue? Thank you. Regards,Darren

A:Upgrade to SSD on Lenovo G500 laptop

Hey Greg,

Since the SSD would be the same standard 2.5" size of the HDD in the laptop, you shouldn't have any issues swapping them.

The metal tray that holds the hard drive will have side screws that will work with the SSD as well. Just make sure that the SATA connection lines up before screwing the SSD on the tray though to avoid having to flip it afterwards. LOL

Its a bit unclear if the G 500 series is 100% good to go for a Windows 10 upgrade? The series doesn't seem to be on the Lenovo "good to upgrade" list, but Microsoft during its "compatibility review" seems to say "go ahead 100% of your apps work flawlessly with Windows 10...upgrade today...." Once you upgrade the "challenges" begin, audio doesn't work "out of the box", so you go to a generic driver to get it back. Video sort of works but oddly, the brightness control seems conflict in Windows 10 with the hardware key sequence Fn up arrow /Fn down arrow and at the end of the day there is only one brightness level - "medium", which can't be changed. You head to AMD, get sucked into downloading the BETA level of upgraded drivers, and suddenly you have 200 megs of programs related to gamers and surprizingly, the same old video drivers (without brightness control).  Have not really tested video playback but intital attempts, usi,ng bluetooth to output the audio have been challenging. Not sure what the cause is but I suspect "lack of tuning" in the software.  Responsibilty for drivers and compatiblity seems to be a jump shot, is Lenovo responsible for the drivers? the video chip maker (AMD)? Or the audio chip maker (Conexant) ? Or did MSFT agree to write updated drivers or provide E-Z tools and migration software for device driver coders so they could update thier software? Seems a fair amount of "finger pointing" , and "real compatibilit... Read more

Hello, I have Inspiron 5520 which originally has i3 2370m. I have upgraded the CPU to i7 3632QM anad it works perfectly but I found out that Turbo Boost is not activating during the work. Here is the diagnosis from HWinfo:

As you can see, it shows that Turbo Boost is not activated. And from my tests I can definetely tell that the maxumum speed of the CPU is nominal - 2,2GHz without any further rising according to the Turbo specs. Also I tried to install the Intel utility to monitor Turbo Boost but it gave an error saying that it can't find CPU with Turbo Boost support. But the 3632QM is supporting it ofcourse.BIOS settings do not have any Turbo Boost options so It can't be activated/deactivated from there. The BIOS version is latest avaliable A14.Why Turbo can't be activated on this laptop? And I saw that many other people with different machines can't do it as well. That is so pity and unfair. :( How I can enable it? Looking for your help please.

Hi All & Ejn63,
Unfortunately, my motherboard of Inspiron 5520(Tag:1TBJV1) is dead and now I am looking for an upgrade with the fancy features that I missed earlier backlit and Graphics card(To be able to play Highend games :)). But, I am puzzled with below questions and request you to provide your guidance.
1) I came across two viable options 4P57C(2GB 7730M) & 6D5DG(1GB 7670M) in which prior one seems more graphics memory and new model which I am guessing to be more powerful in terms of benchmarks, life expectancy..etc. Can you please provide any feedback between those two options.
2) I am sure that 4P57C will offer backlit but not sure 6D5DG will offer it if it is recommended over the other.
3) Even before Dell, I owned HP-DV6700 in which I faced a lot of trouble not able to get display because of the Graphics card(NVIDIA) trouble. I realized that for the above boards Graphics card usage switches between intel HD4000 and AMD on needed basis. Hence, I am guessing in case of worst situation if AMD graphics chip is dead/malfunctioned mother board will just work fine with more reliable Intel 4000 graphics chip. Please confirm?
Based on your inputs on above factors, I want to go for purchase one among them.
Thanks a lot in Advance for all your time for helping me.
Best Regards,
Pavan.

A:Mother board recommendation for Inspiron 5520(For I7-3632QM and Backlit)

Either will work - but if your current system has Intel video, you will also need a new heatsink assembly
www.parts-people.com/index.php
and if the power adapter is 65W, you'll need a 90 or 130W adapter to replace it.
That's over $300 in parts for a 5-year old system -- you may want to consider a replacement system.

A:G500 can not boot windows 7

hi Zigas,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try these Settings in you BIOS
Inside BIOS
    Under Boot Tab
          Change Boot mode to Legacy
           USB Boot should be enabled
    Under Security
Secure Boot Has to Be disabled

In case the options above are grayed out in your BIOS, Got to Exit Tab and Change OS Optimized Default to Other OS
and check the options again.

Once All are Set Make sure to save all changed by hitting F10 and enter for Yes

I suggest you Reinstall Windows 7 again after these settings

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You can do this to exclude device driver from Windows Updates

Open a run box (Windows key + R)
Type in sysdm.cpl   hit enter
Then click on Advanced System Settings

You should have a windows with Tabs / Go to Hardware TAB and click on Device Installation settings

Now click on "No let me choose what to do"
Never Install driver software from Windows Update then save changes.

Hope this helps

Dear*, I have an Lenovo G500 laptop with Intel HD graphics and AMD graphics and have two questions. The laptop is running Win10 PRO 1) When I try to insatll the AMD Catalyst with the auto detect software from AMD (radeon-crimson-relive-17.3.2-minimalsetup-170315_web.exe) then the laptop freezes at the end of the installation. Do you know about this problem? 2) Is it possible to force AMD graphic card to work all the time and not to use INtel HD 4000 graphics? Best Regards.

Hi AliKemalDemir,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that some of the keyboard keys are not working as expected in your G500 Laptop after updating BIOS. Hence, I would suggest you to check by re-installing the Keyboard driver from the Device Manager and let me know the findings.

Hope to hear back soon

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

I've had a problem with WiFi since a Microsoft Windows 10 update on Oct 11th, after the install of the updates the internal AR9485 adapter would not work, everything pointed to the driver.  I cannot find an update for the driver for Windows 10, the Windows 10 Version 1607 troubleshooter says I'm using the latest and most up to date version. Out of frustration I bought a Netgear USB wireless adapter, WNDA3100V3 (N600) Installed it using the Netgear Genie and it worked fine. However, I got a surprise when I removed the device and found that my WiFi was still working fine via the installed AR9485 in my laptop!!! It appears that the Netgear Genie turns on the WiFi function and the installed driver for the 9485 works as it should. Yesterday, there were three Windows 10 updates, I installed them using Ethernet cable rather than WiFi. After the install and restart required, once again the AR9485 adapter would not work. As soon as I installed the Netgear Genie it started to work just fine. Right now I'm using the AR9485 WiFi connection without a problem, I can shut down and power up and still the AR9485 works fine. Anyone have an answer to what is happening here, and what can I do to get the AR9485 to work as it should. Thanks Ken Miller

Somehow your posting has ended up on a different thread... We were discussing how to replace / repair the BIOS eeprom chips - not drivers for Windows 10....Will try and answer regardless, then may have to have a Forum Mod move this to it's own thread...Short answer to your issue is try to install drivers in "compatibility mode" for Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 option. You can do this by right clicking on the installer file, chose properties then the Compatibility tab.If it is only a single component (USB, Sound etc...) then you might be able to find a driver for it by "Googling" it, but you need to make sure you have the right hardware information as it is usually not a generic driver. In closing - if you have a single hardware device that is not supported, not critical it can be disabled and simply ignored.Good luck.CB

I have Lenovo G500 laptop one year old. It fell on the floor and screen cracked. Aso, I found that the connection to the screen is not good. I need to change the LCD screen 15.6" and LCD cable. In the manual part list there are two different names and numbers for LCD cable. One of the names of the cable is DIS and another is UMA. Which cable do I need DIS or UMA. What is a difference between DIS and UMA?I never repaired any computer myself, but our local repair shops don't want to repair laptops, I like this machine and would like to repair it at my spare time. Any help from comunity would appreicate very much. Thanks in advance.

A:change lcd cable on G500

hi ibg-lenovo,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Ideally, if the G500 system came with Integrated Graphics (Intel), you will need to use the LVDS Cable (UMA), If the machine came with a switchable graphics (Intel + AMD), you will need to use the LVDS Cable (DIS).

I can't find an official writing about the difference between the two cables but the difference mostly lies on the cable specs (electrical characteristics, etc) and on.how the video signal is transfered from the motherboard to the LCD panel.

As for replacing the screen, you should consider ordering an LCD panel from the Lenovo FRU for best compatibility.(like this item)

If you decide to replace the panel yourself, ideally you should follow page 61-63 on how to remove the LCD panel but take a look at this video for a different approach

More info:
Low-Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS)
LVDS Flat Panel Display Interface

After giving up with the intellimouse 3.0 I am now considering these two

The G500 has more features but its a laser mouse and I have heard optical (MX518) is better for gaming

anyone got any experience of these two mice?

A:Logitech G500 vs MX518?

I've been using the Logitech MX 518 for about a month now. It's been a huge upgrade over the ordinary Logitech USB mouse I used before. It's very responsive and has very good tracking.
