Q: Solved: BitDefender vs Competition 2010

Which security suite for 2010 would you advise? I've heard very good reviews from Kaspersky, however haven't heard a single bad review of BitDefender and the 2010 Total Security is supposodly very, very good! Advice please!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey everyone,I had just recently bought Bitdefender Total Security 2010 for my Dell XPS laptop. I figured it's a good antivirus for gaming. I had Bitdefender awhile back, but because of a hardware malfunction, I had to uninstall it. I am now trying to install the new version i just purchased. Yet when I try to install Bitdefender, it usually goes to almost 100% completion, but I always get an error, as depicted in the picture below:What can I do to prevent this error from happening again? This is Bitdefender Total Security 2010 for Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

This antivirus program is very effective in my opinion.
I decided to switch to Bitdefender after a major problem with a trojan on my PC and I want to know what you think of it. I mean those who really had/have it..not those who come and say: oh no, x program is the best.

A:What does anyone think of Bitdefender 2010?

I would say it is a good program at my company we are currently using both Bit defender and Norton in my informal testing( we have a mail server with a catch all account and I just pull the e-mails to machines with different virus software to see which one catches the most junk) Norton caught the most junk. But that isn't the whole story Nortons firewall gives me lots of problems on machines running SQL databases that have to be accessed as well as a few other firewall issues. Bit defender came in second in my informal testing on the mail server and has a very friendly firewall that doesn't give me any problems so I use it on 10 or 12 machines and have norton on the other 150 or so.

I would say Bit defender is a good product as well as many others I can't remember what all products I tried when testing but those two did the best. Also neither of those products seemed to noticeably slow the system or cause other problems. Bit defender does have a much more user friendly firewall and I like the interface better.

Hi, I've entered today Bitdefender's home page to read some more about the Welchia worm(they have a pretty large database with lots of computer viruses and their behavior) and I've noticed they've changed the site. The 2010 version of BitDefender was launched today and I guess that explains the change!

I'm curently using the 2009 Internet Security version of Bitdefender, and I've heard so many good things about the 2010 that I want to try it(I'm satisfied with my current version but I'm curious to test the new one, as I can use the same key!). The problem is that I have only 2GB of RAM and I'm using Windows Vista, but the recommendations for Bitdefender 2010 on Vista is to have at least 1,5 GB of RAM. Does that mean it's going to slowdown my system?Did anyone tested the beta version of Bitdefender 2010?Thanks!

Hi All
I feel I have to vent and I am sorry in advance for doing it here. Let me first say that this site and its content and the professionals behind the scenes helping members detect and clean viruses etc. from the average guys PC are to be highly commended.

I first stumbled onto this site a year ago searching for a cure to clean my wifes PC from a nasty virus/trojan and the materials and downloads saved my wifes PC. It is her work from home PC.

Her PC now is infected again so severely this time that I am unable to get on the INTERNET to download the essential tools as per the instructions on this site to post the log files.

My complaint is that Bitdefender customer service is a PIECE OF CRAP!! I had contacted them several times and spent hours on the phone waiting on hold then explaining the same thing to different techs over and over again and being promised that I will either receive an email with a link to a download for rescue files or a personal phone call to resolve the situation and it has been going on for weeks. Bitdefender Total Security 2010 purchaed for 3 PC's did not detect nor clean the infection.

I am now in the process of wiping out the harddrive and reinstalling XP and all her programs, restoring all her data from Carbonite to her fresh install and then going to the APPLE store to purchase a MAC POWER BOOK PRO and have her PC Windows merged over to the MAC till she is caught up and then that partition will be deleted!! Sorry to hear about your encounter with BitDefender Support. What you experienced should not happen to anyone but unfortunately it does with many support services. No single product is 100% foolproof and can prevent, detect and remove all threats at any given time. Just because one anti-virus detected threats that another missed, does not mean its more effective. The security community is in a constant state of change as new infections appear. Each vendor has its own definition of what constitutes malware and scanning your computer using different criteria will yield different results. The fact that each program has its own definition files means that some malware may be picked up by one that could be missed by another. Thus, a multi-layered defense using several anti-spyware products (including an effective firewall) to supplement your anti-virus combined with common sense, safe computing and safe surfing habits provides the most complete protection.Thank you for your kinds words about our staff. They are all volunteers who assist members because they know how frustrating malware infections can be and want to help when they can.

First impressions.
I was very impressed with the way BitDefender is presented to the user. The website is cleanly designed, the download link is clearly visible, there is no data to fill in before downloading and even after that, you can delay the trial version's activation process if you are only evaluating.
The installation process is fast and simple. It does not install any unwanted software, the only complaint being the nag screen it shows at login until you buy the program. However, there is nothing intrusive and if it were not for the icon in the system tray, you wouldn't even know there's an antivirus installed.

I have the BitDefender Total security 2010 and I noticed there is a very huge problem with it.
BitDefender creates similar folders in C:\Program Files\Common Files\BitDefender\BitDefender Threat Scanner :
(WIN 7 32BIT)

The Content of the folders 'av32bit...' is completely identical. The problem is that each one is a waste of 230MB and
the only way I can delete them(It does not damage the AV) is at Safe Mode(And I don't want to do this everyday because they re-create..).
I think that it is caused by the active scanning of BitDefender because as the time pass I notice that the free space on Drive C
reduces(without doing sys scan, surfing the web and etc..).
Is there any way to solve this frustrating thing?(By the way it happened to me even when I had Win XP, and the AVG 8.5 That I had owned never caused this.)
If not, I'd like to have a recommendation for another Security solution as powerful as BitDef 2010 but a reliable one.

Thank you very much for your time !

A:BitDefender 2010 Consumes a lot of space On A Daily Basis!

I would let those files stay for a week or so, and see if BitDefender removes them on its own. Sounds silly to me that a program will grow files day over day without removing obsolete files.

Hi there,

I'm building a new system. Ive found an 8800gtx on scans website, it appears to be branded scanfx. The say "A Big Brand name card we're not allowed to mention. We guarantee 101% Satisfaction."

How good is this 8800gtx in comparison to say, an xfx or gigabyte model for example?

The only noticable differences are that it runs at 575mhz, whereas some of the other (more expensive) cards may run at 600mhz.

This card is under £300, which is amazing. Whereas some are over £400.. what do you reckon?

My Macbook Pro is from mid 2015 and it's already struggling with things big time and, as Black Friday is fast approaching, I am thinking to upgrade.A few of my friends asked if I would consider windows, and said how much cheaper they are, and I am having second thoughts. Here are the 3, I am considering:Macbook Pro 15" - i9,32GB RAM, ProVega20, 1TB SSD - £3,834Lenovo ThinkPad Extreme Gen 2 - i9, 32GB RAM, Nvidia 1650, 1TB SSD + Multi-Touch Screen + Wifi 6 support - £3,096HP Spectre x360 - i7, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 1650, 1TB SSD + Multi-Touch Screen, Wifi 6 support - £1,799I am going through a lot of courses now, learning video and graphic editing as well as doing a fair bit of LIVE streaming and will be using some device for NOTE TAKING (OneNote). When I had a little play with Lenovo's touch screen on a laptop, I expected it to be poor, but it was actually good!An Ipad Pro 11inch is ANOTHER £1,100 on top of a Macbook. So a top spec Macbook Pro + Ipad Pro would cost me nearly £5,000, what seems absolutely INSANE. No touch screen of WIFI 6 on MACs, that seems just crazy to me in this day and age.The only reason why I am even considering is because I also have an iWatch & iPhone XR. I don't quite know if I could even control devices and do "screen mirroring" and "Clipboard" between an iphone and a windows laptop or TVs.Is there anything "pro macs" that I am missing here? What would you do??

This is something that regularly seems to happen, yesterday for the second time.  The first time it disappeared just by a "SuperAntispyware Free" scan, but this time it didn't go away with this program.  I found Combofix.exe on the internet, but only now read you shouldn't use this without suppervision.  The installation went without problems and it run for about one hour, without change in the popup.  I closed the program without problems again, but as the redirect on my site hasn't disppeared (Combofix wasn't finished yet), I come to this forum for further help.
In case I really need a scan with Combofix, please can somebody tell me what to do further?  The problem is thus that the program doesn't show any progress after the blue popup telling it is scanning the computer system and that it can take 10 minutes or the double in case of heavy infections.  I thought an hour is too much and then, the program seemed never to finish .
Please is Combofix the best program to get the redirect removed or do I need to use something else?
What I further to know is if you can avoid these redirects by protecting your site with Norton or another antivirus?
And at last, doesn't the inbuilt antivirus of a browser (when it is 'on') not protect against redirects?

A:One of my urls is redirected to several games and competition websites

Just out of interest I thought I would ask this as my 1.4Ghz Athlon at 1.5Ghz with a Y-Tech 4000 rpm fan is reasonably loud. I wouldn't like to consider the noise necessary to overclock a chip from 1.6Ghz to 2.2Ghz with air cooling (600Mhz!!). I used to have Delta Fan on my SK6 heatsink but it was unbearable and I seem to get loaded temps of about 40 degrees celcius with the lower specification fan so I am ok with my 100Mhz overclock (via 133 fsb -> 143 fsb, A7M266 doesn't have multiplier dip switches or bios settings).

One reason I have always considered Intel CPU as an alternative to my beloved AMD chip is the ability to run cooler and therefore require a less deafening HSF.

So does anyone currently have a P4 overclocked significantly (Particularly the "a" northwoods) and can provide any information about the cooling that they need?

A:3DS Competition prize: P4 1.6a running at 2.2Ghz. With what cooling?

Most of the posts I've seen, pple are using air cooling with even the stock HSF!!! This isn't really surprising since the Northwood core is capable in running up to speeds of >2.2Ghz

Bitdefender is a great program, but with still some cons with it. That's why people started releasing AV with Bitdefender's native engine but with different UI. Most come with dual-engines, one being the company's and one being Bitdefender's. The most popular ones are: F-Secure, Emsisoft, and Bullguard. You might ask, "Hey, but why won't people switch to these instead of using Bitdefender, since they come with Bitdefender's essential protection added with their own security options?" A big con of these alternatives are that they are usually outdated, because Bitdefender updates its own products first, then push it out into the other vendors.
Pros of Bitdefender:
-More staff and faster updates
-Always up-to-date
Pros of Other Bitdefender-Based Products:
-Generally more features
-Generally slimmer (less bloated)

A:Bitdefender vs Products Using Bitdefender Engine Explained

BitDefender develops all of its real-time protection features, they only lease their scanning engine to other vendors which is usually an older version but has the latest signature updates. F-Secure, Emsisoft, Qihu 360, Bullguard and others develop their own real-time protection features and implement the scanning engine.

The most bloated part of BitDefender's own product is its real-time protection features that is why other products that using its engines have less bloat and bugs. Just because they use an older scanning engine doesn't mean that the detection is inferior since the signature updates are the same. Newer engines are also much heavier, older engines are more stable.

BitDefender also is known for poor custom support and resolved bugs another benefit for using another product with the BitDefender engine.

Has anyone else found this to be true?

I've just installed XP on a small form factor Aspire X1200 media desktop system and it has absolutely cleared up all the tics and traits that could have been hardware or software related so I'm jazzed about that (its not a lemon after all!).

The last test was Firewire write speed over a network. I have two X1200s and the other one has 7RC installed and I use TeraCopy to take my speed measures from. The Firewire connection is built in and it's a small 4-pin type to 6-pin at the external drive. Identical Firewire drives on both systems (750 gig LaCie).

The write speed to the drive on the 7RC ranges from 4.5 to 5.7 MB/s. The write speed to the firewire drive on this system, when it was under Vista's control was 4.8 to 5.2 MB/s consistently. Both would always seem to start a little faster, like in the 14-17 MB/s range but by the end, that was the average.

Now, XP write speed to the same firewire drive from a USB drive over the network was 26 MB/s (about 31 gigs in just over 20 minutes if that works out correctly). The write speed from yet another firewire drive over the network was 32 MB/s.

I had thought, well maybe the 4pin to 6pin cable was a bottleneck or something but such does not seem to be the case now. Choice of OS seems to be the bottleneck. It would be interesting if anyone had similar results or differing results, and maybe find out what, if anything can be done to get the speed up on 7RC. Doesn't bo... Read more

I have noticed that other software such as Kaspersky, Bitdefender,Comodo,F-Secure all have similar elements. Do these additional features actually give more protection ? An IT consultant friend says that these features are mainly 'cosmetic' . Is this so ?

Would welcome further advice and recommendations please, thanks.

I had a problem with Outlook emails hanging up in the outbox and then sending as many as 14 copies of the same message. I was unable to fix this Using the "Repair" function of the upgrade installation disk (created from the downloaded file). I removed Office completely and tried to reload; however, my disk got corrupted and Outlook is no longer available. Is there a way to recover Outlook without having to purchase it separately? I am using Office Professional Plus 2010 Home Use Program. The email that came with the original download from Digital River states to go to the "Account Management Console" to reload; however, this is on a hard copy and the original email with the link is no longer available. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Solved: Outlook 2010 missing from Office Professional Plus 2010

If you downloaded this from Digital River, then you may be able to download it again, contact them and ask.

If you can download the install file again and it works, burn yourself a CD of the downloaded install file.

Also write the keycode on the CD.

Hi, I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium. Recently every time I start up the PC I get a pop up Windows error message telling me "A problem has occurred with BitDefender Threat Scanner and a dump file has been generated and saved in Windows TEMP folder" When I check the folder there is a .dmp file for every occurrence of the error message. Now I have searched my PC for any instance of BitDefender and cannot find any. I do not remember downloading or installing any such program.  I am running Norton Internet Security for Antivirus. Other than the error message the computer seems to be functioning as normal.  Any help on how to remove this would be appreciated.

A:Fully patched versions of Firefox, Chrome, IE 11 and Safari exploited at Pwn2Own hacking competition

This is one truly great event in the industry, thumbs up, so useful to everyone, except to the hackers who didn't participate.

I wish I could say it was 100% pure, without any shady agenda, but I would be lying, since hackers expose themselves, they all get into CIA and FBI books for good.

"Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8" shows up in my IE Tools drop down. I noticed it today for the first time but a search for it on my lappy turns up nothing.

I did NOT ask for it nor did I knowingly download it, so how did I get it? Is it possibly part of something else like Ms Antispyware?

Have Googled their ws http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-52-en--BitDefender-Client-Standard-v8.html but it doesn't tell me how I got it ... am I making too much fuss about this?

Yesterday I changed my IP provider from Bright House to CenturyLink. I have a laptop and desktop that is networked. My desktop has Windows XP and my laptop has Windows 7.

I cannot access the internet on the desktop (no problem with the laptop). I called CenturyLink and we did testing and determined my security protection BitDefender was causing the problem. He had me uninstall BitDefender. I went to Add/Remove program to remove the software and my computer froze. I turned the computer off and back on. BitDefender no longer appeared in the Add/Remove program in Control Panel but it was still showing in the System Tray. CenturyLink had me go into Safe Mode to access the internet to reinstall BitDefender so that I could uninstall and reinstall it. It never would reinstall. So, I still cannot get to the internet when in normal mode.

My question is how do I do a complete uninstall of BitDefender?

Thank you for your help.

I am currently running BitDefender Internet Security 2011 on my laptop which is Windows 7 and my desktop which is Windows XP. Today, my sister-in-law had someone come and work on her computer. The first thing he told her was one of her problems was BitDefender. He said that was one of the worst antivirus software you can have, that it can cause servious problems to your hard drive. He recommended a free antivirus programs called AVG. Is it true what my sister-in-law was told about BitDefender? If so, how do I completely remove it from my computer and what would be a good antivirus to replace it with?

Thanks for your help,

ok 2 things:
1. A pop-up says "Scanning outgoing mails" (something like that) keeps on poppin' up, and it hangs my computer, it simply gets so much slow untill it freezes.
how can I disable this automatic scan?

2. Well look at this:
at first this issue didn't belong in this section, so I rather not re-open it in here, after all the info and comments i've gathered over there.
so, Any1 thinks it's a BitDefender problem?
Thanks in advance

solved number 1:
1. Open BitDefender in "Advanced View" mode.
2. Go to the AntiVirus tab.
3. Choose "Custom Level"
4. Disable "Scan outgoing mail"
I only did that 5 minutes ago, but I'm sure that it will work.

I recently installed bitdefender and it seems as though it has slowed my pc. particularly my internet. i never thought it could seeing as how Im running windows 7 with 6ghrtz of ram and the new quad core Intel processor. any help would be great.

A:Solved: Has bitdefender sdisadvantagly effected my pc?

All AV's are going to slow down your computer. They scan every file. Often, they scan both when they are opened and again when they close. Some scan even more than that. Check your options. If you have an option to turn off scanning on close, do it. It really is unnecessary.

If you have more than one program installed that does the same thing, then the slowdown will be even more dramatic since they compete to try to scan the file, sometimes failing and allowing infections to spread.

As you all know, BitDefender brings up a small box in the corner. One that is green and the other is red. Those monitor the file and net zones on your computer. For some reason, my real-time file scanning has been disabled and the green box gets a "X" over it on start-up then stays that way. When I open BitDefender up, it says "1 issue requires your attention". Then when I click it, it says "Real Time Protection (P2P and File Scanning) Disabled". When I click "FIX", nothing happens. I can reboot and click Fix many times but it nothing. This has been happening for a week now.

BitDefender is a great antivirus but with the 2009 version it keeps causing hang ups in Windows XP Pro. I cannot open any links in Outlook Express or in sites like Amazon.com. I have installed this with and without Comodo firewall on two different computers and still get the same results so I know Comodo is not the problem. If I remove BitDefender everything works fine. The 2007 version never had any of these problems.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi everyone,

I have a strange problem. I'm working with my Thinkpad R50e (Celeron) and am having a few weird issues. I used to have NIS and Pestpatrol loaded. When I upgraded to NIS 2005 all heck broke loose. Then I found all the reports about that version being nasty. So.... I uninstalled and switched over to Aluria's Anti Spyware and Bitdefender for virus scan. It worked great for a while.. like 2 months or so. Then everything started getting weird. My system was so slow that it just wasn't workable at all. It was driving me crazy. Lots of errors in the event viewer logs. Aluria also got corrupted or something because the program would not open at all. It would just hang with the splash screen open. The only thing I could do was end task in task manager. So I figured that it might be a good time for a clean XP build and reload of the Aluria and Bitdefender.

After going through the rebuild my laptop just screamed!! It was great for about a month. Then it started slowing down again. And then the Aluria Anti Spyware started locking up again. I couldn't get the program to open. So I uninstalled Aluria and reinstalled. It's working again but everything is running slow again.

When this happens there seems to be a lot of issues with display response. Like when I move the mouse it takes forever for the cursor on the screen to catch up with the physical location of the mouse. Or when I drag the mouse down to the bottom of the screen to look at the task b... Read more
