Preferred Solution: How many external monitor can the latest T470/T470s connect to without docking

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I connect only one monitor through the HDMI port on the port replicator, it works fine. When I then add the 2nd monitor to the DVI port on the port replicator, the DVI connected monitor displays, the HDMI connected monitor shuts off - and...I can no longer even see the HDMI connected monitor in the display settings options. How do I make the HDMI & DVI connected monitors to work at the same time? Thx, Jim

Hi, I am trying to connect my T470s to two external monitors using a ThinkPad Docking (HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA, DVI-D, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, LAN/RJ45). One of the monitors is connected to the docking station through a VGA cable, the other monitor through an HDMI cable. I run on Windows 10 Pro. Both monitors are shown in the control panel. However, unfortunately only the monitor connected through the VGA cable displays. Once I disconnect this one, the HDMI suddenly displays. I want to have both monitors working at the same time.  Would anybody know how to do this? Many thanks,Sebastian

Hi I read here that T470s supports 3 independent displays.I want to have my 3 Think Vision monitors to be these 3 independent displays (preferrably all connected to the dock station) and the first of them mirroring (duplicating) the buid in Laptop monitor. I tried several things without sucess: I can for example have two monitors connected to the Dock via DP and have 3 independent displays. I can connect the other monitor to the docking station via VGA, but obvioulsy I cannot have 4 independent displays. When I try to mirror (duplicate) the internal monitor with one of the external monitors  I get the odd message :"Unable to save display settings.". During trials with different settings one time the third monitor also just showed a very low resolution and could not be changed... Another time I also created a few freezes when I pressed the apply button and not even the mouse moved and I had to turn the computer off and on again...Before I now spend any money on a bunch of cables and try all combinations and then find out it is impossible or a sofware issue (read that sometimes such an error could be related to old saved monitor configurations and a manual deleting of registry keys would be needed...). Could someone please tell me if/how this is doable at all and how to connect the third external since there are just 2 DP ports at the dock. Thanks.

Have one 4K 6Hz monitor connected to my T25 which is the same mashine as the T470. The mashine just gets so slow, and GPU/CPU running hot and slow with fan on often just from browsing and youtube. When using the 1080p screen in the laptop with same tasks no problems. Should it not be able to handle 4K screen? If not what resolution is the sweetspot for external display? Have connected the monitor with display port from my ultra dock.

Hi all, I work IT for a US HQ company and we have a user in our smaller London office who has a T470 and he is trying to connect 2 external displays to it.  Both displays are Dell P2210 https://noteboox.de/mediafiles/Sonstiges/Dell-Professional-P2210-Users-Guide.pdf which have 1 VGA, 1 DVI-D and one DIsplayPort. We don't have any T470's here in US that I can test to replicate his issue on. The T470 has an HDMI port and a USB-C port. He currently has one of the monitors successfully connected via a HDMI(male) to VGA(F) adapter. When he tries to connect his 2nd monitor via the USB-C the PC will not detect it. He is using a USB-C to DIsplayPort cable  USB Type C(Thunderbolt 3) to DisplayPort [email protected] UHD 6 Feet CableFrom all I have read on this machine, it should be able to use the USB-C and HDMI port at the same time for video. I don't want to just tell him to go get a different cable, as I'm not sure if there's something I'm missing here. The T470 does support video over USB-C am I correct? All the specs sheet says on the 470 is "Lenovo USB-C to VGA adapter, optional." This is not very helpful and does not specify if it will support video over other means, nor if this "Lenovo adapter" is a converter or simply an adapter.  Can someone please help me pinpoint where my issue might be? Thanks.

I'm having the same problem with that dock on x1 Carbons. What's odd is that the computer thinks the second monitor is working fine. If I Remte Desktop into the computer I can use the second monitor fine. The Monitor even wakes up when the computer boots but then displays 'no signal detected' after searching it's available ports.

Text will appear fuzzy/blurry and after a couple of minutes your eyes starts to hurt from trying to focus on it. Has anybody experienced any similar issues? We also have a T470s that is doing the same but it even has blurry text on the built in screen.

Dear forum,  yesterday I bought my new ThinkPad t470. While everything else is working fine, the notebook seems not to be able to detect my external monitor (ThinkVision t2424p), when connecting it via a VGA to HDMI adapter. This setup flawlessly worked with my last notebook. Regardless whether I try to connect the monitor when Windows is already running or when I boot into Windows with the monitor already connected, the monitor doesn't show up in the screen resolutions settings nor does there appear an additional device in the device manager.  Do you know what the problem might be? The apater works fine when used with a different Notebook. Thank you very much, EBM

I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the T470 screen with the T470s screen. Doing a bit of research I've seen a few people mention it could be possible, although I have not seen anything conclusive. It seems as though the T470 screen is 30-pin whereas the T470s is 40-pin. Would it be possible to change these with the correct cable, and what do I need? I'm basically on the fence regarding the T470 and T470s. Pros of the T470 for me is the slighly cheaper price, slightly better keyboard travel, and the removable battery which is a huge plus for me. The major con here is that I wanted a better screen, such as the one offered in the T470s/p model as it is higher resolution and has significantly better colour gamut. Choosing the T470s also leaves me without the removable battery/less battery life, however. I can also make a compromise with the T470p but even with the removable battery on that model I lose usb-c and thunderbolt, and the machine is heavier and chunkier. If I was able to get the T470s screen working on the T470 it would be ideal.

Hey folks. I've read similiar postings, but this is slightly different. I've got a HP Compaz NX9010 laptop running Windows XP on a docking station with an HP external monitor hooked up. The external monitor works fine with or without the laptop closed, but the external will not run video streams or saved video files. Video will only run on the laptop screen. The only way I can get video to run is to use the <function> toggle keys and disable the laptop screen which has to be done each time the laptop is booted. Is there any way to fix the settings so that this does not have to be done each time I'm docked? Thanks for any assistance or ideas you might have.

Hi, I have recently bought ThinkPad T470 (20HES07J00 model). I installed Windows 10 and all the necassary drivers, and almost everything is fine besides two defects:when HDMI cable (version 1.4b) is connected, I do not have a HDMI playback to choose at allwhen I connect external monitor (which is DELL U2515H) with the same HDMI cable, the maximum resolution available is 2048x1152, whereas native resolution for this monitor is 2560x1440Tried reinstalling Intel HD Graphics and Intel Display Audio drivers many times in different ways (uninstalling and having automatic install on restart, installing from device manager, installing with Driver Easy, upgrading to the newest version), but nothing changes. I'm sure the cable is capable of such resolutions as I tried on other laptop and it worked perfectly. I also installed linux on my new T470 and it has no problems with HDMI audio and higer resolution on external monitor. So the problem is around Windows and drivers for it. Anybody knows what else can I do?

When I switch between my home and work docking stations, the external monitor flickers.  I have tried what is recommended in this link:
www.dell.com/.../EN
But I don't have it plugged to the display port.  Both monitors are connected via DVI.  When I restart my computer there are no problems.  Only when I come out of sleep mode when changing docks.  The external monitors are different.  Both dells.    Video card driver is up to date.  Bios is up to date. The video card is Intel HD graphics 520 (driver 20.19.15.4531).  Display is Dell E2414H.  The dock is PR02X  F310C A03.  I have changed the monitor settings from auto detect to DVI input.   Also I disabled DDC/CI.
I believe this is a video card driver issue although it could be bios related.

Hi Can anyone tell me whether the Elitebook 2540p notebook or 2740p tablet can support dual monitors simultaneosly when used with a docking station I would assume that one monitor would be driven from the VGA socket, the other from DisplayPort If so, what range of screen resolutions are supported? I am looking to buying one of these models, but I need to know if this functionality is supported. ThanksJohn

A:Dual external monitor support with docking station on EliteB...

From HP: The key with supporting dual-monitors at the same time is that it requires that the notebook have dedicated graphics in there - which is not an option in the 2540p.  The first and smallest notebook to support this in the EliteBook line is the 14.0" 8440p - or we could look to the ProBook 6450b as another option too now. In a nutshell HP is being cheap or complacent.  I don?t get why they are sticking with Intel?s castrated graphics solution and why on the docking stations that do have deticated video like the fore mentioned 8440p they don?t enable 2 DVI-I (that?s Analog + DualLink Digital) instead of a single DVI-D and VGA. And the thing that really annoys me is that the intel intregated chip is capable of doing according to Intel own docs. AMD?s fusion can not come soon enough IMO.

Hello.  I am a very happy new T470 owner.  So this bad boy has an internal battery and one in the back.  Should I remove the one in the back when my box is in the docking station (90W Ultra Dock), or is it smart enough not to provide continual charging to the removable battery which would wear it out? TIA

I have a Dell XPS 13 laptop running Windows 10. I have just purchased a Dell U2515H monitor which I am waiting for delivery for as we speak. I believe the monitor has quiet a few inputs however I am not 100% sure which lead to get to connect them both and which port I use on the Dell Laptop. Looking on the left hand side of my laptop there is a port with a lightning sign next to it, is that called Thunderbolt? and is that my monitor/display port? and what lead do I need? it looks like some sort of micro socket!

There is a battery draining bug in the latest (19.3.4.83) synaptics drivers. This is true in both the Windows 10 and Windows 7 drivers. One of synaptics processes is pooling the WMI quite frequently using about 1% of the cpu, non-stop. This has been fixed in the windows 10 drivers on the Yoga. There is a detailed writeup on this here: https://randomascii.wordpress.com/2017/09/05/hey-synaptics-can-you-please-stop-polling/ Reverting back to the 19.3.4.75 drivers fixes this, although they were quite hard to find for Windows 7. Lenovo, please fix this.

Hello, I was getting some messages like "Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled" in my logs (while the fan doesn't seem to be making maximum noise),, plus there was the new CPU updated microcode in the new bios so I tried a big upgrade to n1wur21w.iso. After that my SSD stopped booting, the bootloader is setup as legacy boot (and originally when I installed I couldn't use gpt partition with legacy boot, I had to use msdos or the bios wouldn't boot with gpt and no EFI, I would normally use gpt even if I don't boot with EFI for whatever reason but this is minor issue, gpt or msdos partition doesn't make much difference for a laptop install). Secure boot is off of course and I didn't touch a single bios setting after the downgrade (plus I tried all boot options while the new bios was installed). I did a bios downgrade to n1wur19w.iso (my previous bios version which thankfully I kept archived) and the problem is solved and the system boots fine again. Could you fix this bios regression and ship a new bios for t470s 20HG that can boot from nvme devices also in legacy mode? The faulty bios was downloaded from https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-T-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-... https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n1wur21w.iso Thank you!

I have ThinkPad T470 laptop with Windows 10 pro x64 installed. Sound plays just fine from the laptop's speakers, and when I plug external speakers into the laptop's 3.5mm audio port they work just fine too.But...when the laptop is docked in my Ultra Dock 90W docking station and the external speakers cable is plugged into the dock's audio port, no sound is heard. If I'm playing music through the laptop's speakers, as soon as I plug a cable into the dock's audio port no sound is heard. I can still use the laptop's audio port to connect external speakers, but that defeats the object of having an audio port on the Ultra Dock. I believe the driver of external speaker plugged into dock is well-installed and well-detected by the device managerI already set it as default audio output and can see the volume symbol up-and-down while testing it.I also had my T450 docked and the audio port from this Ultra Dock worked just as expected!! It seems everything works fine but still no sound can be heard when T470 is docked. Is it a bug when using Dock with T470 docked ??What do I need to do to get the Ultra Dock's audio port working?Anyone can help ?? Thanks a lot in advance!Kind regards,Jimmy
