Problem with IE remembering password for site login

Q: Problem with IE remembering password for site login

Hello all,

I help out part-time at my local library. One of our research stations (Win2k), just can't seem to remember the login/password info for a site we frequently access. We make sure the "save password" box is checked when logging in. After IE is closed and restarted, when a patron tries to log in, the username/password fields are blank, even though we saved it previously.

We have that info saved on our other research stations and the info never gets lost. It's just this one problem system. All the systems are running Win2K and have latest IE version and updates. All the settings are near identical.

The site in question is www.corptech.com. It is the login part to their secure site. It is a research database in which we allow patrons to access. That is why we keep all the login/password info saved, so patrons can go directly into the site. The problem system can never remember this info, so we always have to retype the info to login, which is a hassle.

I have double-checked the settings (autocomplete, privacy settings etc.), run adware/spyware/virus scans and uninstall/reinstalled IE. I'm still having this password problem. I downloaded Firefox and the password manager remembers the info successfully everytime. But not IE on this one system. So it seems to me something is wrong with IE. I have even tried clearing all the cache, cookies, temp files, then reattempting to login and save the info. It still isn't remembering.

Every system at the library seems to have no problem with remembering the login/password. It is just this one system. When you go to login, the user/password fields are blank...even though we did check Save/Remember password etc. previously.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you tried opening up the cookies completely or at least making an exception for that domain to allow all cookies?

I would also wonder what 3rd party software you have running (firewall, antivirus, etc).

as i set up my bookmarks and login information, as long as my browsing session remains 'in force' my website favorites remember my login information. once i exit firefox, all of that info is blown out...

ive gone through the options and tools and such for firefox and ive got the 'remember passwords for sites' box checked under security but to no avail...

i have the history shut off (as i did in my old versions) so im wondering if they have made it mandatory to keep the history (new method of tracking cookies?) if so that really blows...

How to force IE 11 to ask for saving credentials again for just one web site, after having accidentally sellect not to remember password for that particular site. Please, take into account that:

- I'm totally aware that storing credentials is not a good security practice, but in my particular case this is what I need to do.

- I know that reseting IE or similar approachs will do the job, but doing that I'll lost more tan 70 web sites credentials. I need a solution not involving loose all the web credentials stored.
- I also know that there is way to do the trick "lying" to IE using a modified but similar username, but this only works in some web sites, depending on the kind of login mechanism used. In my particulare case this trick also does not work.
- I also know that there was a registry hack for this particular problem, but this does not work with IE last versions.

Any help would be very apreciated.

I log in to a business web site I use frequently. The log in seemed to remember my email address and password as when I typed thefirst letter the address etc automatically came up. Very handy if you are logging in a lot to the same site. For some reason its gone and i have to type in the full details. I think it happened after I had to use safe mode.
Anybody know how to restore this?

In Firefox (the latest version that will work in WinMe), the username and password for Virgin WEBMAIL is prompted, but the identical information for an identical login form for Virgin Broadband USAGE is NOT prompted; and the settings for REMEMBERING the login details are ineffective FOR THIS SITE. I have tracked differences between these sites to differences in 'Page Info' in Firefox's Tools menu, but I cannot change the Page Info for USAGE to be the same as for WEBMAIL.
I have failed to trigger login details prompting by 'artificially' adding them to the stored passwords list. Can someone help me make Firefox prompt the login details for Usage as it does for Webmail ?

Hi, My home build desktop with windows XP home has stopped remembering my login name on some of the sites I use a lot. Two of them happen to be my banks. Called banks and they said they had nothing to do with it. Don't know what I did but wish I could get it back to remembering. Anyone know what I can do? Thanks

A:computer stopped remembering login names

Hi drhugh -

I find that this is not unusual for me at certain times. You should not have your Bank as a Saved Login (password) name.
Every 2 or 3 months I need to reinstall several Login s and passwords (even my email will ask for it to check that I am using it.

I keep my passwords and Login names listed apart from other programs just for this type of event.

Only yesterday my wife needed to retype her Facebook Login and password, and I needed to retype my email login .

You should always change important passwords etc. (like banks) every few months to be more secure also.

No direct solution here, just a few words of advice -

Regards -

Hello All,
New to the forum and my first post. I have been banging my head against my computer for a few days now trying to figure this out.
Heres what works...
I have Win7 running on Bootcamp on a MacBook Pro. I login using the login it made me create during install. Once logged in, I added it to the domain successfully. Now, when I use my domain login (domain/login: password) it logs me on and sets up a new desktop for me. All of my network drives are mapped and outlook can be configured with my domain user's exchange email account.
Heres what doesnt work...
After logging off and logging back on (Win7 remembers the last login, with domain and everything) it sets up a fresh dektop and doesnt remember that I set everything up.
Things of note...
domain\user has been added as a local administrator (still didnt work)
I have noticed that the domain\user "Profile" is set to 'Temp' and I cant seem to change it.
ANy help would be appreciated!

I have an account on a website that is quite important; it is a https site. It remembers my username and password, so I went to Internet options and deleted the history, passwords, cookies etc. I also edited the options to "don't remember passwords or data entered into forms etc" but the problem still persists. The people who manage that site told me it's not a problem of which they are aware either.

I would try a different web browser but neither chrome nor firefox seem to support all the functions of this site. If I am missing something obvious or if anyone has anything else worth trying please do let me know......thank you.

When I check the "remember password" box in Outlook Express V6, the password isn't retained. I read the Microsoft article about how to correct this, but here's the problem. Microsoft says to go to the registry and locate the key named; HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider, right-click on the DEFAULT subkey and delete it. My problem is that the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider doesn't exist in my registry. Any ideas? Running Windows ME.

I'm a new Skype user (Skype Portable) and the only way I can get Skype to remember my password is to not sign out but use the Quit Skype option when right-clicking the taskbar entry. I found this by doing a global search.

Doing this leaves me signed in to Skype (Task Manager shows the two Skype entries), so I'm wondering if this could be a problem, security wise.

Also, if anyone does know of a way to get Skype to actually remember the password, maybe adding a line to an ini file (appinfo.ini ?) I'd sure like to know.

Thanks for any help.

I've been using an admin account for a while, and there has been no problem with the password. Recently I created a new, secondary account with limited privileges with a different password. I lock the machine every time I leave the computer, but since I created the second account, I sometimes have issues with unlocking the accounts. It gives an incorrect password error, and the only way to get past it out is to restart the computer. That is quite an issue because it means work lost if anything happens to be open.

Since this has only started happening after the creation of the secondary account, it seems that may be the cause.

Note: I'm not looking for a way to bypass the password(s). I need the passwords to remain in place for security, I'm just wondering why it sometimes gives the incorrect password error when in fact the password is correct. (No issue with capslock or numlock btw)

OS: XP SP3, 32bit

Whatever account that locks the computer, must unlock the computer. If you locked the computer as an Administrator and are trying to unlock it with the limited account it will give you the error and Verse Visa.

I've just got a new pc with windows 7 installed. I've been through set up and created three recovery disks. When setting up I entered a password and hint.

I've left the pc on for an hour or so but haven't used it as was doing other things. It went into sleep mode and now I've turned it back on it has taken me to a log-in screen and is asking for the password. I've entered the password as I set it up - checking caps etc, but it won't log me back in. It says the password is incorrect. It gives me the option to change the password but then asks for a floppy or USB Flash Drive. When I insert a USB flash drive and try again it takes me to the password reset wizard and then 'the disk is not a password reset disk.'

Is there any way I can rest the password? I'm gutted as I've only just set the pc up and now I can't even log in. I can't work out why the password is not recognised. Has anyone else had this problem and can anyone help - please!

(Just so you know, I've posed this from another computer)

Thank you

A:Problem password at login

Welcome to Seven Forums, Shelly.

You might try rebuilding from the recovery disks and see if that puts the password back the way you set it.

If that seems like too much of a hassle, you might want to try some of the tools here Password Recovery - Top 5 Free Windows Password Recovery Tools - Password Cracker first.

Edit: This looks like a good tool to reset the password:

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor Review - Password Recovery Software Review - Password Crack ISO Download

Just download the free ISO file, burn it to a CD, and delete your password in just a few minutes. After that, you'll be able to access Windows without a password at all!

I've not tried any of these, so I'd recommend reading the write-up at the first link.

I was then left with IE 7 for a browser. I tried to system restore to an earlier date but my request was denied.
I now cannot enter any information in the login or password box of any website (bank or forum) using IE 7. But, I can enter the login and password information using Monzilla Firefox browser to access my accounts.
In windows XP when I open Start then open the Help and Support program I can not enter any info in the Search options, all I see is a flashing "type or paste your search terms". I also cannot enter any info going into Start then opening Windows Search, but I can in the Search Companion part of the program. I am also able to enter info when I go to Start the open the Run program.

Hi - there is a similar but not identical posting http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/573663/changed-microsoft-password-now-i-cant-log-in-to-computer/ so if I should move this there I will be happy to. However, my issue is slightly different so I didn't want to muddy the waters over there.
I purchased a Lenovo desktop "certified" open box from BB but it was a hacked up sw mess. At the time it took days to get the Win8 updates (there are documented network driver issues from that time period). Finally got it updated then upgraded to 8.1. First mistake (well first after my purchasing decision! I didn't do my research and realize I could create a local acct as it only prompted to enter a MS Live account.
I was hit with problems that are documented by many users at that time - a) Win updates reset nw drivers, breaking connectivity, and requiring an edit of Win settings to use correct drivers; Win 8/8.1 loses or corrupts login passwords. When this occurred (after a forced Win update) I could not logon.
I contacted MS and was instructed to reset password. I confirmed the password reset by accessing my hotmail account on a different computer. However, the desktop in question never successfully updated the password, and after another reboot the network connectivity was lost (again). This time, however, I could not edit the settings to regain connectivity because I couldn't access Windows (due to the password issue).
I tried using the sticky key hack,... Read more

I recently experienced a major fault on my XP Pro installation and had to recreate my desktop, user and configuration settings. I also recently updated my P6T MB BIOS to the latest version to fix an S3 bug. (What is it with ACPI that's so hard for these MB guys to get right?)

My system is fully patched, with no file or disk errors and I run Kaspersky 2010, with all the bells and whistles, which reports zero infections.

Now, when I boot my system and get to the login screen, the password field is automatically filled with a long string (60+ characters), which of course I can't read. I need to delete this before I can enter my valid password.

I have created a second account and if I select this from the login screen, the same thing happens: a string of some sort appears in the password field, as shown by the asterix.

This only happens at boot time, and only once when the first password is asked for. I can log in and out afterwards and the problem does not appear.

I disabled all unnecessary devices and services and have looked in the usual places in the Registry. I can't see anything unusual in my Hijackthis scan and Process Explorer is also showing a clean system.

I emphasize that there is no visible malicious software on my system but this mysterious string in such a sensitive position worries me. Any ideas?

A:Solved: Strange login password problem

This definitely is not normal behavior of XP Pro. You have something running on your computer that is populating the password field. It could be an installed application; it could be malware.

Open your Add/Remove Programs wizard and make sure that you know everything that is installed.

No virus scanner will detect 100% of threats, so it is always good to have the results of more than one virus scanner. Do not install a second scanner. Instead use an online scanner, which you can find by searching the internet.

I have a Windows XP Home Edition and I made a password reset disk for it. Initially, it worked fine, but a few weeks later I tried to click on the link which tells you if you do not type in the right password to use your password reset disk. But instead of using the password reset disk, it behaves as though there is no link there, it is just text, and even says, "or you can <A>use your password reset disk</A>", showing the "<A>" and "</A>" which I believe is normally hidden from view. I have made several rest disks, so that is not the problem.

I believe a file has been corrupted. Is there a file I can fix or download for this problem? Thanks for any help.

Hey there,

Password input issue. I use Windows XP Pro SP3, and a regular Microsoft Multimedia Wireless Keyboard.

Today I've had the misfortune of having the spyware/malware Security Tool infect my PC. I went on Safe Mode, cleaned everything up with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and AVG Anti-Virus, and the Security Tool malware disappeared. I then used RegistryBooster to fix any registry errors.

When I restarted and went on Normal Mode, I clicked on my account and the white space and the blinking "|" cursor showed up, but no matter what key I hit, the black "blobs" won't show up, as if I hadn't typed anything.

I noticed that if I clicked my F-Lock, the wireless keyboard receiver's F-Lock light goes on/off normally, and when I log on Safe Mode, I can type my password just fine. Probably means it has nothing to do with my keyboard.

I tried everything; rebooting didn't do anything, CTRL+ALT+DEL didn't take me to the traditional login screen, and everyone who has had this problem says they can't see the typing | cursor but I do, and I can't type my password unless I go on Safe Mode (which I'm in right now.)

That's it. I'm beat. Please help me out, guys.

P.S. Also, in the middle of my malware/virus scanning process, it gave me a message that said "There is no audio hardware plugged in" even though I haven't touched my speakers, and ever since then I couldn't get it to produce any sound... Read more

No anti malware is installed.

The Dell Inspiron N5110 was received, late 2012, as a gift from a relative who lives distantly.

Per my friend, the problem began within 2 weeks of laptop receipt. The problem occurs ~95% of the time.

For me, it has occurred ~98% of the time [ < 6hrs involvment ].

User Profile name: user_name

After confirming the problem, I tried Last Known Good Conig; no success. The same result occurred when I booted to safe mode.

I booted to the W7 repair menu. The user account was not user_name. Instead it was Someone_elses_name.

user_name & Someone_elses_name have been changed for the purposes of this thread. My friend denies knowledge of a user profile name change.

I used a p/w reset disk, which worked. Then, I shut off the computer. I was able to use the user profile to successfully, in normal mode, boot into W7. While in W7, I enabled the display of the Administrator account; scanned online with Kaspersky [ which found no threats ]; created a new p/w for the original W7 profile. I shut down the computer.

Upon re-boot, the problem occurred for the W7 profile. HOWEVER, the Administrator account, with no password, was successful... Read more

Today, there were numerous short power outages in my area.  About 7 over 20 minute period.  Tried to start windows 7 pro and would not start.  Automatic diagnostics could not fix the issue.  I declined system restore and did hard reboot instead.
Windows 7 pro loaded but asked me for a password.  I did not have a password set up.  Before, when promoted for a password to perform changes, the screen would display my user name (Dell T7500) and a blank password field. Pressing enter with that blank password field allowed for changes as administrator.
I don't think that I had to enter user name and password to get in after Windows loaded before.  Now I do.  Again, no password was set for the only user.  I am now presented with a user login screen for user Dell T7500.  Now when I hit enter with a blank password field I get message that says user or password incorrect.  No other user is set up and no password should be required for user Dell T7500.
Perhaps the auto startup diagnostics routine and the subsequent windows diagnostics caused this issue.
I hate to take the thing apart and cancel bios/cmos passwords by taking out the module and not sure that is what is needed.  I think I need password help at the OS level.  Help!

Pressed Windows icon + r to launch a run command - No responsePressed the space, enter, and any other buttons to launch a password prompt - No response. *It seemed to accept a keyboard entry. i.e. Caps lock worksTried to start up the Windows 10 using F8 safe mode (I know it does not work for Windows 10 but I tried anyway)Switched the Microsoft account by selecting lower left corner account options - It did switched the account but no password prompt.

As I can not login to the Windows, I am using my second PC to create the post. Please help.

A:No password prompt at login screen. Can not login.

Have you reset System Configuration to normal boot (remove the check from safe mode)?

Try pressing the Ctrl key and just type your password blind - there was a bug in the Preview builds, but I haven't seen it since then.

Having trouble logging in since I tried to stop xp asking for password at the startup screen. I looked around and was told to type in Run control userpasswords2 in user accounts and removed the password which was the start of this problem. There was no option to remove password and all I did was to uncheck the box asking me for password. My blank password wasn?t recognized any longer.

"User Option could not be started with the supplied user information. Ensure that the supplied information identifies an Administrator on this computer." is the error message I'm getting.

Before I used to username Administrator & leave my password blank and login that way but was getting tired of seeing that login box. So I tried to eliminate it. But now I can?t login to my Administrative account as the blank password doesn?t work anymore. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue? I can get into safe mode and now have another account I can access but a lot of files aren?t available to me any longer from my Administrative account. Thanks, Ralph.

A:Login problems since I tried to remove login password

If you can go into safe mode you should be able to change the password of the administrator account that you're having problems with.

A:Vista Problem With Remembering Logins and Settings

try using mozilla firefox as your browser, its good at remembering log in info, it asks you do you want to remember each time you create a new log in and password.

I have a new laptop, with Windows 10 installed. I can not login on chase.com. It says it is a new computer and needs to verify that the individual is, indeed, me, and that a code would be sent to my email or phone. When I press on "next" to request that code, nothing happens for a few minutes, and then it says the page can not be displayed. I have tried Edge, IE 11, Firefox and Chrome, without any success. Have also temporarily disabled windows defender, but does not help. Have also reset the laptop with recovery option. Again, the same. I can access the site without any problem from other laptops that I have.

Thanks for your help. I do not see the link where I could put the laptop specifications, but it is an Acer laptop with 5th generation i5 processor, 8GB RAM.

A:Can not login a particular site

You are going to have to ring Chase and speak to them
we cannot help with this one. It is unlikely to be anything on your computer that is wrong. Chase has loads of problems with web access and the web generally is full of complaints about it

I am pretty sure that Chase.com is not compatible with the higher security levels & encryption used in W10 ( regardless of which browser you are using )

Win 98, IE 5.5, Encryption 128bit.
Everything working fine, mail, surfing.
When I try to get to a secure site and login, was getting a do you want windows to remember the password duber after I put in the username and password. Clicked yes, but had wrong password. Got message, wrong password.
Went back, said No to remember password and it removed the username and password from the login box.
Cleared temp files, unchecked Autocomplete.
Rebooted, tried again, but when I type in user name and password and click login, nothing at all happens.
The site works, can get there from another computer.
No spyware or virus, ran updated antivirus program and spybot.

Haven't tried IE repair or upgrading to IE6 yet.

Any other Ideas before I do the last thing??

Hello All,
I need to remove user passwords. Yes I have removed Admin password. I have used Trinity, Hiren's boot disk, UBCD and other linux and password removal programs. I want to remove the user passwords from the login. I have done the safe mode startup and disabled the EUFI. I cannot login to the admin or safe mode unless i enter the user password. Which is what I am trying to remove. I have watched videos and read tutorials and all of them tell me to login and then change the password. Is there any possible way to remove this? I am talking about the main user login that has the user name with the email under it. Is there a way to remove them from pulling the hard drive and accessing it through usb as an external drive. I have been through multiple forums and all with the same thing. They all tell me to login and then change the safe mode or user settings. I want to remove the user password without loging in. PLEASE do not send me a site that shows me how to remove password after loging in or login and change the start up or settings. I already know how to do those things. Like I said I already removed admin password, but I cannot login or it does not show that user as a choice to login. Yes I am very frustrated with this. I think I am going to quit my job and quit working on computers if this is what Is installed for the future.   <<<<this is how I feel. DUMB!!

A:Remove login password/ forgot password

That's a touchy subject...yes, there are ways to do what you want, but...I'm hesitant to assist, since there's no way for me to know what your intentions are or whether or not you have ownership of/ should have access to  the PC in question.  I know that sounds unhelpful at best and rude at the least, but...I'd go back to Google, if I were you.

Hi there

I bought myself a new PC last week:

Asustek motherboard
AMD Athlon 5600+
Sapphire Radeon 4670HD
2 gig ram
320g hard drive
Windows XP Pro

Anyway, everything has been working perfectly until today. I was checking facebook or something on the net, when randomly the windows XP login screen came up. I click on my user name and now it asks for a password. I never had a password to begin with so I have no idea what to type. I am 100% sure there was no password before. So then I restarted the computer and it took me to the login screen again, still asking for a password. Oh, and my virus definitions are completely up to date as I have an ADSL connection and my NOD32 virus program updates itsself automatically as new updates come in.

Would really appreciate some help, I seriously don't want to format my new PC already.
