password won't let us log into the admin account even though the password is right?!

Q: password won't let us log into the admin account even though the password is right?!

I'm 100% sure I'm typing the right password to log onto the admin account. This is the only admin account on this computer(Windows Vista). There is no other admin account on the computer, or I would use that one. How can I fix this? I am POSTIIVE I'm typing the password correct. Any way to bypass the password and get in the admin account so I can change the password or get rid of the password altogether?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The firm in which I work has a Lenovo PC with Windows 10 installed. There are two user profiles on the computer, the admin and another normal account without administration rights. We have only the password of the account without administrator rights.

The network administrator had left the company surprisingly in without giving the administrator password of the PC and we cannot contact him anymore.

Now we want to install another programme and we cannot do this without an administrator account.

I disabled secure boot and have tried to boot the PC with an Linux USB Stick, but it do not boot from the stick.

Any suggestion how I either can reset the password of the administrator account or create an new account with administrator rights.

A:Windows 10 admin password reset or new account with admin rights

Although there may be techniques to recover a lost password it is forum policy that we do not discuss these here - your best bet would be to visit a local security specialist and get them to recover/reset it for you - and a change to the policy for the replacement admin may be a good idea, I always wrote a list of all passwords and stored it with the Managing Director and also in a fireproof safe

I have recently ran into an issue that is probably not too uncommon but I am having issues with. I currently forgot my password for my admin account on my laptop that runs on windows vista, i have looked up ways to bypass this issue and have ran into some issues along the way so first i looked up a password rescuer online but figured that i would have a hard time running it because my pass is more than 14 characters long. i also tried to run a system restore on it for an earlier time before i changed the password that i have currently forgot but an error keeps coming up due to a corrupted file on my c drive. all i want to do is gain access to my admin account so i can back up the files that are precious to me so i can run a factory restore on my computer then have it running clean again. Anyhow, I looked online for some other ideas and im currently reading and looking into ways to bypass the admin account by using a sticky keys trick the windows vista password or offline enabling the built in admin account on vista. The trouble that I am having is that i made it to where my files were viewable and accessable only through the admin account, does that mean they are encrypted? also would doing these tricks possibly delete my files or make them unaccessable? i also dont have a vista or windows setup dvd could i possibly do anything to bypass the admin account to keep my files, without the dvd? thank you so much, i know im in one heck of a pickle any help is very appreciated.

So I had to recreate a password in March 2018 and I totally forgot the password I used for my admin account. I'm not 100% sure its it's a local account or linked to an email address so I did try to change my hotmail password in order to change the admin password but it didn't sync up to said new password on the many times i've tried to change it so i assume it's local. I have no password recovery disc, I wanna play sims and download new things on my computer (using guest accounts) but i always need my admin permission so I'm desperate to try and get the password back please, if I have to wipe my whole PC thats fine, I did try this using command prompt but admin error so couldn't... any help please!

I created a password on my son's computer a couple of months ago in an attempt to force him to study for the SATs. I promised to give his computer back after he takes the SATs (and do well on them, of course), and he has recently taken them this past Saturday. Regrettably, I have forgotten the password to his account, and there is no other account on his computer other than a guest account available for use. The guest account seems utterably useless when it comes to recovering passwords. Is there any way to recover his password?
Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.

Now, I'm using the guest account and do not know what should I do to restore back the password as in the guest account many things can not do ! So, what should I do now to restore back or to get back into my admin account ?(Some ways that not involved with the money)
Btw, If I go for some pro to help out, will they find out about the password I used for the account now or just without knowing the password and unlocked the admin account for me?

A:How to restore the password for my admin account??

Hello Guanhui, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could do a system restore at boot, and select a restore point dated before you changed the password to go back to what the password was at the time and date of the restore point.

Hope this helps,

Okay, this is for a friend. I've tried everything I've been able to find, and since she got the computer second-hand..

Let me start at the beginning. This is her Christmas present, that her mom bought for her at some auction. It's a decent system, almost as powerful as my own. That being said, the person who sold it neglected to mention that the administrator account that allows you to do ANYTHING has a password on it. Not only that, but they also neglected to give a password recovery or reset disc with the computer.

As it stands, here's what we've tried thus far:
Tried using a program known as Ophcrack on a USB drive, but for whatever reason, it won't work without administrator approval. (Yeah, that had me scratching my head, too.)
Tried to clean out the machine and do a fresh install from the boot menu. (After almost a week, you get desperate.)

Those were the two most feasible ones I could find on the web, but after that, I have no clue how to do this. (I've loved XP for as long as I can remember, so.. I'm not particularly schooled in Vista.)

Just a quick note, in case you weren't able to infer it: the PC in question is running Vista.

If anyone at all knows how we can get around this password issue, please.. this is driving her crazy, and, being her boyfriend, it's driving me crazy as well. >_<

Thank all of you for your time, and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

(I was taught to be polite. o.o)

So, here's the dealio: a friend got a PC running Windows XP Pro from work. They didn't need the machine anymore and gave it to her. The primary user account was setup to login to an NT domain and my friend has NOT changed that. Therefore, her account configuration settings (desktop wallpaper, etc) are all associated with her account which is part of the NT domain. I tried to boot into safe mode to do a spyware scan and she doesn't know the password for the local administrator account. So, we can't boot into safe mode.

How can we reset the password for the *local* administrator account? Would <Link removed> be safe or good to use for this?

Is it possible to migrate her account current settings to a local account we will create once we can get logged in as a local administrator?

Thanks!

Peace...

Not sure why this is happening...

I have 2 admin accounts on my PC. When I try to install a software from my 2nd admin account, it asks me for the password of the 1st admin account.

But when I go to install the software in my 1st admin account, it doesn't ask for a password.

My 2nd admin account was initially a normal user account, but because it kept on asking for a password each time I wanted to install a software, I upgraded it to an admin account. Yet it still asks for a password!

Any idea why this is the case, and is there a work around?

Thanks.

A:Why does my 2nd admin account ask for a password when installing?

You might consider creating a new admin account to transfer everything over from your broken admin account to the new one in order to see if it solves the problem. This link will tell you how: Fix a corrupted user profile

However, you might simply check if UAC is the problem (it sounds like you do not want this security feature enabled): User Account Control - UAC - Change Notification Settings

gang I realize some of you are touchy about this subject but help me out - I have not seen this one before.
I bought [using it as 'we speak'] DC7900 from a huge recycler - the 3rd I've bought from these guys who do a great job. it has Windows 7 Pro on it from them [refurbisher volume licensing]. its activated, happy for the most part. their slipstreamed install process however sets a password on the Admin Account, and the password is "Administrator". last night I tried for the first time to get in there. the password failed.
this morning on a fresh start I tried again. Voila' - it began setting up the Administrator desktop [first run] so I turned to the important ritual of preparing my morning cup of Golden Yunan...
When I came back to the screen, it was sitting at the 'pick a user' screen again...
I hit it, input 'Administrator' again, and it failed. again, and again and again so ....

is the account corrupted? I would really love to avoid a total nuke & reinstall if I can but if it must be, it must be. I am just wondering how this can happen. obviously its a security concern.

what started me on this path was there is a 'live' instance of 'Windows Mail' installed on the system that is invisible in the Programs Install/uninstall utility so I cannot get rid of it. when I try to delete any of the associated files I'm prevented. Try to change permissions, I'm prevented. thus ... you know the drill

What options do we have to regain admin account access?

I cannot edit any registry settings. Values cannot be changed.

I cannot use control userpasswords2 as I am not an administrator.

I've tried using XP home install CD to repair but cannot get the laptop to boot from CD ROM despite changing BIOS settings. I've also tried a few password recovery tools but again, cannot boot from CD.

This is driving me mad and I refuse to be beaten. Can anone suggest any other route I may have missed or advise how to get the laptop to boot from CD so I can at least attempt to use the recover option on the boot cd?

Windows Admin account and password security issue

I had a message today that a UK TV program suggest that all windows accounts should be password protected.

I also noticed that PCs are now often preset up , recently a ASUS system was setup - so that when switched ON , you do not have to setup - it takes you directly to the start screen, and with no user password

Most of my users are elderly and passwords do get them confused sometimes- so with new PCs , we tend to set-up 1 account , that logs in automatically and do not use a password
But ensure, UAC set any program trying to run will prompt for permission

Is there a huge security advantage in having a windows login - for a single user , who does not have any one else in the home and the PC does not leave the house .

I'm trying to find the program in UK that may have made quite a few people unsure of their security now.

I guess then a we should also setup a user account and not use the admin account, if we are trying to avoid potential malware using the admin account etc

Thanks
Wayne

A standard account will stop some hacker/malware from owning the machine right off upon infection. But some malware will still function in a standard account.

Depending on whether your users do online banking and do online purchases, you might want to install some kind of anti-keylogging program to foil somebody capturing passwords and credit card info. I use Zemana.

Locked out of User/Admin Account - wrong password guesses?

Help guys,

I've had my account LOCKED (acc name: "SENIOR") on my home PC running WIN XP Professional (version 2002 i.e. no SP's).

The kids typed in the wrong password too many times and now WIN has decided to lock the account for me. This account was set up with full Admin rights so I do all my system admin through it.

There is another Administrator account on the machine - I guess we'd call this the MAIN Admin account??? - but I've never had reason to use it so I've forgotten the password for this one and I've tried a couple to no avail. Don't want to keep guessing for fear of locking this one out too.

Through another user account (with min priviledges) I have access to the machine and I can get to my usual account in Command Prompt <runas /user:SENIOR(i.e. username) cmd> but I'm not familiar enough with command prompts to figure out how I can restore my main/usual account (i.e. SENIOR).

Anybody able to point me in the right direction?

"Oh kids - I just love em - but I couldn't eat a full one" ;-)

SO MANY TIMES.   w
On an HP computer, the BIOS is normally f10, if i press f10 on startup, it'll ask for a password. None of my relatives know this password, i've tried countless times but have had no luck. I want to completely wipe the drives and

Sitting here in class and our professor was telling us admin it disabled by default in Vista/W7 now for security reasons. I mentioned you can access it from a command prompt based program that comes in a bootable iso format you burn on disc.

I can not for the life of me remember what the name of that program was but a couple years ago I was working on a Win Vista system that got a virus that locked out the user by changing the user account passwords.

We Googled, found this program you burn on a CD and it brings up a menu that will allow you to reset the user account password, or log into the admin account.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Trying to find the name of it. Can't seem to find it now.

Is there any way to turn this off? I have tried to unblock all programs in the parental control settings but that doesn't work.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is first time I experienced my lap top asking for Administrative Password or Power On Passwor, but I have neither of them. I tried some passwords and they didn't work, and I search on line for this issue and someone was saying to try 66665891 but it did no work eiher. After trying a few and it gave this error of system disabled withthe code 53578094. I turned the laptop off a few times and tried again but the system disabled code is the same as 53578094. Would you please direct me how to get this around so I can have the laptop on? Thanks and appreciate your help.
