Size of incoming messages

Q: Size of incoming messages

I am using OE at present. When I receive the messages, the dialog box shows total message size and new meesage size on server. Somehow I have become very used to this information. But this does not seem to be possible in Thunderbird. Is it possible to get such a feature in Thunderbird?
Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

First the problem:

I am using Outlook express 6.0. Running Windows XP with all updates and service packs.

I check my messages, they download, my in-box says how many came in. I click on in-box to read them, the number of new messages disappears and my in-box is empty.

I have also lost all my custom folders (needed messages, spam, etc) and my rules have disappeared.

I have copied all the .dbx files and have converted the messages themselves to eml files which i can read(using DBXtract.) When I try to drag and drop them back into my in-box, they disappear again.
What I have tried so far:

1) deleted the .dbx files for all my folders and let them rebuild.

2)Followed the steps in this article, rebooted and downloaded/installed ie6 again...no love

3) Searched MKB fairly thoroughly

4) Said a small prayer to several deities hoping for divine intervention

5) Cursed Microsoft and all things both hardware and software related thoroughly and in great detail using invectives and vituperations not heard since the time of the crusades.

6) Now I post here asking for help *sigh*

hi all,

has any one seen or heard of this. i have had several users who get an email in outlook 2003, and it just keeps coming in over and over and over. they get it like hundreds of them. the fix i have is to quickly close outlook, then reopen it. and delete all the entries of that email. i am wondering if anyone else has seen this and knows what causes it? we are on an exchange server also.

thank you in advance;

A:Outlook 2003 incoming messages

If the incoming message has not been received 100% (or fully downloaded from the Server) Then the message will be sent again from the Server.

I have seen this when the email message is big say around 1Meg or more (ie usually having large attachments) I suppose the idea there is to not send big emails, or use other means to send these messages (free Servers etc)

Or it can be the Antivirus software slowing down the incoming message too much, until Outlook just gives up and sends it again

Yes I've seen it before.

For months now, I intermittently receive emails with a header and footer, and a blank body. These same emails are visible on my ANdroid phone, just not in Outlook. I have tried so many tricks and methods that have been posted on this site (many of these people do NOT know what they are talking about.) And, I have been extremely disappointed with the knowledge base of both Microsoft AND the Outlook support staff commenting on this site. I have found the fix, and will post this below, and you will see how easy and simple this was, and ask the same question I asked....Why couldn't Microsoft suggest this to begin with?????

1. Ok, with Outlook 2010 open, select the "File" tab.
2. Scroll down and select the tab that says "Stationary and Fonts".
3. look down at the bottom, you will see a header that says "Composing and Reading Plain text".....Select this...
4. You will see the drop down menu for Font Color, select this and choose "Automatic".
5. Done.

I have a user that is missing text from incoming messages. The more the mails are replied to the more text disappears or distorts. It's from several different locations. The emails seem to be coming in HTML. They often get this string of code at the beginning of the
message:

v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);}
w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);}

In the body of the message text that was typed normally will appear in a different colour, a different font, or not at all.

It doesn't matter what format -- Plain Text, Rich Text or HTML. I've copied over a .dll from a computer without issues (can't remember the .dll, read it in the groups) and we have AV software but it isn't picking anything up.

Any ideas? This is the second user this is happening with and it's happening more and more consistently.

The user has Win XP Pro, Office XP, and we run Win NT 4 SP6 w/ Exchange 5.5

In Outlook 2003, the format of incoming messages has suddenly changed to plain text--even when they weren't sent as plain text.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HP052426891033.aspx?Product=out2003

The above Microsoft help page says to click Edit > Edit Message when the message is open to change its format. But that option isn't available.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Try this:-

OPen Tools menu and click Options
On the Mail Format tab, look at "Compose in this message format"
If it is set as plain text, both outgoing and incoming messages will use this format.... change it to either Rich text or HTML format

Also, if Word is turned off as the email editor, incoming formatted messages may not show the formatting used..... tick the box to use word as the email editor.

I have fast Internet connection 1 Mb/s. I' ve been using it for many months with no problems. A week ago I had a heavy fight with some kind of viruses and spy-ware, which I finally won "with a little help" from a guy khazars from your forum . In one of fighting steps, I have installed Filseclab Personal Firewall Professional Edition.

Now I noticed, that my connection speed decreased significantly - to no more than 5-6 KB/s - but only for incoming messages. Outgoing messages are sent with a speed up to 70-80 KB/s. It can be easily seen on the monitor of the firewall.

It looks like an upper limit of incoming messages wolud have benn set somewhere. I have been using eMule program for downloading files from Internet. (I know that posts about P2P file sharing are forbidden, but I would like mention it here only as a tool for observing internet activity. So, please, do not delete this post.) A week ago, I saw my downloading speed could be up to 100 KB/s on eMule statistic screen. Now It's fixed at 5KB/s. Moreover, if eMule is running and downloading speed is about 5KB/s, it's not possible for me to surf the Internet or even receive e-mails. The incoming connection seems to be blocked. After closing eMule, I can surf or receive e-mail, but at maximum speed 5KB/s. Moreover, the receiving connection is broken very often, and must be reinitialized.

There is no such symptoms with outgoing messages. When I run eMule, I can set the maximum speed of uploading... Read more

I am operating Outlook 2003 in a Dell Inspiron running Windows 10, and my wife shares my email address and Outlook 2003 server connection with Outlook 2003 on her Asus computer running Windows 7 (my ISP is ATT Uverse). This sharing situation has been fine for several years. But over the past few months, I have had some problems with the operation of Outlook on my computer, while her computer is still getting satisfactory service from Outlook. First, I noticed I could not send any messages. After some ?clicking around? trying to see what might help, in desperation I saved my inbox, contacts, and sent box as pst documents, and then I uninstalled/reinstalled Outlook. That seemed to eliminate the sending problem ? I now can send messages, but the problem is now on the receiving side.

When I turn on Outlook, and I look at the Inbox icon in the Folders List, I typically notice the Inbox document-count number increasing at a steady rate of 1 to 2 messages every second as the messages are read from the server. But the Inbox window never actually shows messages newer than about 8 or 9 days old. And some days, the Inbox window won?t update at all, despite the document-count number increasing steadily. When I am trying to download messages, I noticed that if I click on the ?Details? button at the lower-right margin of the Outlook window, even if a document count (in MB or document counts) shows progress, my system never downloads any more than about 1/3 of the total number of availabl... Temporarily disable HTML rendering of a message with the issue. If that displays the message ok, then look at your HTML display settings to see if any of those are contributing to the issue (e.g. white text on a white background, etc).

Hi enipuskas, welcome to 7F!

When you say incorrectly you mean all those accents above/beside the letters. The fractions, % signs and ??
Is this all incoming messages or just from certain senders?
Has this just started?
How long have you had your HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC?
Is the dv6 fully updated?

I have to look back in my posts, but there was a similar problem, and it was narrowed down to incorrect encoding by the senders email system.

There could also be a conflict in language packs. Have you installed any?

For the time being you could try running: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker, run it at least three times even if it reports all is okay.

I hope somebody can help. I seem to be having real email problems. There are some emails that seem to be pulled off the server, I can see the progress in the lower right hand corner of the screen, and then the emails don't show up in my inbox. It baffles me. The odd thing is that I can see the emails on my Treo. I am beginning to think that there must be a configuration problem between the applications I am using. Can somebody help. I have the following setup:

Outlook 2003
Treo Chattermail
Fastmail
Optimum Online

The other problem is that I cannot delete certain emails. Whenever I try it I get an error message that I already mentioned in a previous mail:
"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists restart Outlook"
but this does not solve the problem. Those messages also "cannot be displayed in the Reading Pane", so I see nothing but a blank screen on the preview side of Outlook.

Any ideas?

Hi

Move any personal data you (actually your friend) stored in the recovery partition to another partition or external media. Don't delete anything other.Recovery partition is so important. If it get corrupted you won't be able to restore the OS. Since it is a Dell system, look for a program named "Dell Data sfae local backup". Open that and you will see an option to burn recovery media. Burn the DVD set and keep it air sealed.

I went to SSDs on all of my computers some time back, but I still use WD RE4s and 2.5 inch WD Black HDDs for a variety of backup tasks and for storage in which the data will not be accessed for a period longer than is ideal to use a non-powered SSD for. On my Macs I am using El Capitan with OS X Journeled, GUID map, and FileVault 2 encryption. On my SP3 and desktop I am using NTFS with Win 10 64-bit Pro with BitLocker enabled on both machines. The OS and third party programs are currently up to date.

I've generally used ExFAT and the GPT partition map because it allows me to use it on all of my computers, and I have always used the default cluster size. However, I do not think the default size was the best decision for me because the size on disk is over TWICE the actual size.

If I am correct, the default Win 10 cluster size is 4k, and that going BELOW that is useful for the drives I have many smaller files on. Is this correct? Additionally, the smaller cluster size I go, the slower the drive will write, correct? Also, if so, how low do you advise going? I am still torn between reformatting outright or trying one of the programs that allows changes to a currently in-use drive. Any advice? Thanks!

A:Hard drive cluster size issues? Size on HDD over twice the actual size

For the a sector size of 4k to double your disk utilization you'd have to have a really tiny average file size. From your numbers shown the average size if I calculate it correct is 132kb (unless you have 1 massive file and 17,711 tiny ones) so a 4k size will make no difference.

You could check with TreeSize Free - it will tell you if you right click on the status bar and select it to be displayed.

EDIT - having checked the default for ExFat is 128k for drives over 32GB (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/140365) and when I tried to format an external USB drive that is what it picked. According to macbook - Reformat exFat with specific Device Block Size and Cluster Size - Ask Different OSX picks 128k also.

So if you had 128k as your cluster size minimum disk utilization would be 17,772 files * 128k = 2.17GB. So if all your files were just over this (say 132k which looks like your current average size) you would be using 4.44GB add a couple of big files and it could easily be 6GB.

I would check your average file sizes and also your current cluster size (you can use chkdsk as described in the AskDifferent link above).

The default is 4k for NTFS and I have always formatted ExFat as 4k also. Depending on your current setting reformatting 4k looks like a good idea.

As for how - copying the data elsewhere, formatting and then copying it back has to be the easiest, safest and most likely fastest way. You'll also get the disk defragmented automatical... Read more

A:Email inbox show loading messages. Unable to view messages

You have not said what browser you are using so I will just give a guide using IE8.

The most common fix for this problem seems to be to delete your browsing history, cookies, etc. With the browser open click on Tools, Internet Options, then select Delete under Browsing History, on the next page uncheck all the boxes and click on Delete. Give it a minute or two to complete and then reboot the PC.

This will have deleted all your saved passwords so you will have to enter and save any you use.

This address will go directly to the mail page, if you get stuck, and you could also try using the refresh button.

150% size zoom in corrupts Chrome and Adobe Reader - Windows Forum - Computer Support Forums
I have my Windows set to 150% zoom (otherwise it becomes hard to aim at the little buttons in order to click them) It's really nice to have the buttons really big in the list of options that come up when I press the Windows button on the left of Alt button.

But the problem is that it blows up Chrome and Adobe Reader so that it almost becomes unuseable.

Firefox and Internet Explorer is ok. Foxit Reader is ok.

Also, time to time the Chrome appears ok when I log in (not sure about Adobe Reader) but then when I sign out and log in again the overblownness appears again.

A:150% size zoom in makes Chrome and Adobe Reader overblown size

My experience is that the 150% only really works if you are using a high resolution, say 1920x1080.

If your native resolution is much lower than that you are going to get bleed over ... text running outside of the buttons they are meant to label... stuff like that.

Have you tried just using large icons instead of blowing up all text and buttons?

I have Win XP SP2, all updated, Word 2002, SP3.

Choosing say A4 for page setup, setting it to 100% and viewing as Print layout, at 100% used to give a screen size page which was actually equal to A4 ie 21cm x 29.7cm.

For some time now, the screen size is now larger than that - the ruler at the top and bottom shows the marking as being 21cm x 29.7cm, but the cm units on the ruler are marked off at larger than cm units, consequently the screen size page is larger than actual.

This is annoying as it is not an accurate representation of the page layout for things on the page relative to each other.

Any ideas what has caused this and how to fix?

I would like to figure out which files were not restored.
Is there any way to figure out which files are missing. After I restored the files, the report says that hardlinks could not be transferred but does not the size of them. The bkf file size is 33,754,314 bytes larger than the restored file, but the bkf file "size on disk"is 19, 099,648 bytes smaller than the restored folder!!!
When I left click on the bkf file and select properties it does not tell me how many files are in the bkf file only the bytes.

Is there any freeware/program that will tell me the number of files in the bkf properties dialogue box? Or even better let me look at the size and number of files in the three main folders I backed up.? I can not access/explore the bkf file only restore it. That would solve my problem. My backup tree is C:sharedhardlinkdata>beth>documents and settings>beth> and then 3 folders underneath
Thank you

Hello there, and thank you for viewing my thread!

After formatting my PC, I have made a fresh back up of all of my data onto my external hard drive (as you do). The problem I have, is that the external hard drive is showing as pretty much full, but there's nowhere near that much data on it!

I did a little bit of digging, and noticed that when I right click a folder on the external hard drive and go to 'Properties' that the size of the file shows as one value and the size on disk value is significantly larger in most cases.

In some cases, both values do not reflect the actual size of the file on my desktop.

The ExHD is in ExFat format, and I'm assuming it's something to do with the way it's formatted, I just don't know how to fix it. I've tried it a couple of different ways, with different 'Allocation Unit Size's, but for how long it takes to complete the back-up's each time I'd rather just ask for help and find out where I'm going wrong.

If anyone could help me sort this out I'd really appreciate it.

I edit a lot of home movies of my daughter, some video files are as large as 10GB so I cannot use the 4GB file size maximum given by NTFS.

Thank you so much!

My 32GB Windows 10 Home PC (recently upgraded from 8.1) is low on disk space. I deleted Windows.old and I have hibernation disabled. Apart from a few browsers, very little else is installed, yet I only have 11.7GB left?

One reason may be the size of the Windows folder:
Size 14.7GB
Size on Disk 9.91GB

From my calculations, Windows appears to be using the higher figure in determining available disk space.

Why is 'Size' so much greater than 'Size on Disk', can I do anything about it? I have a similar 8.1 machine, it does not have this disparity (12.4GB and 12.3GB).

What would be a normal 'Size' for a Windows folder on Windows 10 Home PC very recently upgraded from 8.1 i.e. with few, if any Windows live updates run ?

A:Windows Folder Size greater than Size on Disk

I imagine its because windows compresses some system files currently it may be using 9gb but with all files uncompressed you may be looking at 14 which is why it uses the higher value

Windows 10 will save disk space and no longer require a recovery partition | Windows 10 content from SuperSite for Windows

Hackers Target Microsoft JPEG Hole

Tue Sep 28,10:00 AM ET
Paul Roberts, IDG News Service

Malicious hackers are seeding Internet news groups that traffic in pornography with JPEG images that take advantage of a recently disclosed security hole in Microsoft's software, according to warnings from antivirus software companies and Internet security groups.

The reports are the first evidence of public attacks using the critical flaw, which Microsoft identified and patched on September 14. Users who unwittingly download the poison images could have remote control software installed on their computers that gives remote attackers total control over the machine, experts warn.
The images were posted in a variety of Internet news groups where visitors post and share pornographic images or "binaries." The altered JPEG images were posted to groups such as "alt.binaries.erotica.breasts" on Monday by someone using the e-mail address "[email protected]," according to information published on the online security discussion group Bugtraq and on Easynews.com, a Web portal for Usenet, the global network of news servers.

Corrupt Images

The corrupted JPEG images are indistinguishable from other images posted in the group, but contain a slightly modified version of recently released exploit code for the JPEG vulnerability called the "JPEG of Death" exploit, which appeared over the weekend, according to Johannes Ullrich, chief technology of... Windows 10.

I am having much fun grappling with my displays. I say grapple because I CANNOT see the text!

I have a laptop, with a display that has up to 2048x resolution and an external monitor that does 1920x. I have tried to keep both set the same resolution so the mouse will easily go back and fort.

If I bump one setting, others seem to change. Like after an update too!

I need a script, to set, then set again, and again, the
display settings,
the custom scaling level, and
the "change only text size".

Keeping the monitor placement geometry the same would be great for me too.

Oh for a cross reference on Outlook 2013 to the system setting. I keep manipulating the view settings there too.

Probably to get started I could use a "settings display" script.

Help, please

Not sure which sub-forum to post this; apologies.

I want to print this image, 1:1 precisely: http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-conten...hone-scale.pdf

In Europe we use the A4 image size; and I guess the original was formatted to US paper size (different). I am not a printing expert; do I need any sizing or adjustments?

To add insult to injury I even do not own a printer; I have to bring this thing to a print shop and possibly instruct them accordingly. By the law of large numbers, the print shop will likely use Windows; the 7th.

A:How to print image from US paper size to A4 size 1:1, precisely?

The print shop should have no problem adjusting the print size on there equipment.
The adjustment are not made with Windows 7 they are made with the printer program that came with the printers they use.

Are you using the email through a web browser like Internet Explorer or Chrome or with an email client like Windows Live Mail, Outlook, or Thunderbird?

If through a browser, what browser are you using and have you tried another browser?

I created a free account and I am given options to forward and reply to messages at the bottom or if I right click on the email.

I want to increase the type font display size globally, for all applications & windows features, but I want to preserve the smaller desktop icon size. Is there any way to adjust them independently?

I know about the advanced display settings for window color & appearance, and that has some good settings, but it is not sufficient, because it does not change most instances of text as it displays in applications.

Thanks for any suggestions.

A:Any way to change type size but NOT icon size?

Here's my whole list of font size change settings, one of which might provide the answer for you. You've probably tried some of them, but see if there's something here that might change the font size on those icons, without changing the size of the icons themselves:

1. This is the one of the main setting tools for setting various locations of Windows font sizes. Right-click on the Desktop and go to Personalize, Window Color and Appearance. Click on Advanced, and in the drop-down menu, select the item that controls the location where you wish to change the font size. (Note: the last one, Window, does not have an option to control font size.)

2. DPI - Right click on Desktop, Personalize, On Personalization Page, go to left column to: Adjust Font size ? DPI, DPI Scaling: Click on Large scale (120 DPI), and click Apply.

3. Screen Resolution: Right-click on the Desktop, choose Screen Resolution, click on the down-arrow at the end of the Resolution box, and pick the desired resolution. Check OK.

4. Display: Right-click on the Desktop, select Personalize, then Display. From the 3 settings: Small, Medium, Large, if screen defaults to Medium (125% size for font and images) and that?s too large, use Small for 100% size (aka ?normal?)

5. At the lower right hand corner of every IE web page, there?s a Zoom control that lets you increase the size of every web page, and it stays at that Zoom setting for every page until/unless you change it.

6. Open Internet Explorer, go to T... Read more
