Computer shutdown and is making a beeping noise

Q: Computer shutdown and is making a beeping noise

Okay never had this one happen.
I just recently replaced the mother board and power supply on my system.
My processor is an AMD Athlon XP3200. The mother board is an ABIT KW7. The power supply is an Antec SP500. Windows XP pro.

So its all been running smooth for about 3 weeks up until Friday night. I like to leave my system up and running, just letting it go into stand bye mode. I do shut it down at least once every couple of days. Well all of a sudden Friday night I come in from being outside and I hear this noise that sounds like an alarm going off. Rather reminded me of how a fog horn is blown. I follow it to the computer room where I find my system had no life but only making this alarm noise. I pulled the plug and felt the system. It felt warm but not that hot. I let it sit for an hour and I fired it back up and everything was fine. For safety sake I shut it down for the night. On Saturday morning I fired it up and things were fine. But come Saturday night I heard the alarm noise again and sure enough it was doing the Fog Horn alarm noise again with no other signs of life. I shut it down for the night.

I'm on it now and all the fans are running just fine. No system glitches either.

Is the processor over heating and just shutting down?? Thats my only guess. Not sure where to start or how and what to check.

Thoughts anyone??

Preferred Solution: Computer shutdown and is making a beeping noise

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Beeping noise making my computer crash

Hi ao6238, and welcome to TSG.

If the motherboard supports it, the beeping may be an internal overheating alarm and the shutdown may be a protective measure to prevent heat failure. Give us some details about your computer hardware setup.

My laptop keeps making 3 beeps the stops for 5second the it continues. How can I fix this?

A:My laptop keeps making a beeping noise.

Depends on your computer model which should always be mentioned when asking a question. Find the answer yourself at Dell Support. Look up Beep Codes for your model.

When I start my Inspiron N5040, it makes audible 3 beeps for 3 times then it goes away but I can hear
faint 5 beeping noises while computer is running at a regular interval.  It beeps for 5 times then pauses for a few seconds then it continues on and on.

A:My laptop is making beeping noise

3 beeps codes is a system board failure and 5 beeps is a CMOS battery failure.
Ensure you backup all imp data on the system first.
Update the BIOS if possible - http://dell.to/2g6cqpK- restart the system and check.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
If the 5 beeps issue persists, then download the service manual from the above link - remove and reseat the CMOS battery and check. Or replace the CMOS battery and check.
If the issue is unresolved, then I would suspect a motherboard failure.
You could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
You could also order the parts online here - http://bit.ly/2gLyEP1
My personal suggestion is for you to invest your money on a new machine than to repair this system. However, that is your discretion.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Recently, my JBL speakers on my Lenovo Ideapad Y580 have been making a beeping noise (two short beeps in quick succession) whenever I play audio through them. I'm worried it's the speakers because whenever I play music/sounds/games through my headset, the audio is just fine. Any idea what could be causing this? I recently downloaded Itunes, but I haven't used my speakers in a couple days before that so I don't know if this was happening pre-install. Any help would be appreciated, and let me know if you need any more info. I'm running windows 7-64bit home premium.

I have a WMA file with an example of it, but this site wont let me upload WMA files....If you need to hear it, just let me know how to upload it.

I am using a Dell Inspiron 14 laptop. A few days ago, I noticed that my laptop has become incredibly slow (the system will hang sometimes, and continue as per normal after a while), and this coincided with my laptop beginning to make this weird, sharp beeping sound. At first I did not pay much attention to it, but later this was joined by several BSODs, and my laptop became even slower (games that usually did not lag was now hanging halfway through, and continuing as per normal after a lengthy period of 1 minute or so). I tried to find the origin of the noise, and I think it came from my Internal hard drive sector, and thus decided to open the sector up (in hindsight I probably should not have). After I replaced it, without doing much (just doing the usual IT-amateur stuff, wiping it and blowing it a few times), my situation has now worsened to the point that startup takes a much longer time, and finally now it hangs at the "Starting Windows" screen, but without the Windows 7 logo showing, and my screen later turns black. Any help is appreciated.

A:Internal hard drive making beeping noise, laptop won't start up

Install a new drive. Use the recovery discs you created when you first bought the computer to restore it to factory new state. If you didn't create the discs then you can order a recovery disc from Dell, just go to their support site at http:/support.dell.com.

You can download a legal copy with SP1 integrated from here: Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River.
Make sure you get the same version you have, Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate and 32 or 64 bit. Note that Basic or Starter is not available.

I recommend using ImgBurn at 4X speed (or the slowest available) to create the DVD from the downloaded .iso file.

You can do this on any computer capable of burning a DVD.

For techies or folks who work on computers: Create Windows 7 Universal ISO With All Editions Selection On Install with ei.cfg Removal Utility.
This will fit on a 6GB flash drive or can be burned to a DVD.

I am sorry if I am off topic but I ran into some power options problems. 3 days ago my computer started making very quiet beeping sounds, it happens mostly when I use Mozilla Firefox and Windows Explorer. My impression is that the sound is coming from the motherboard. When I restarted in safe mode the sound disappeared,
so after a very long elimination process I discovered that when I change control panel-power options-processor power management settings the frequency of beeping changes as well. Until now I was using balanced settings (min processor state 5% and max processor state 100%), if I choose high performance (min and max processor state are both 100%) the beeping becomes very frequent almost continuous, and if I choose power saver settings (min processor state 5% and max processor state 50%) I don't notice the beeping anymore but of course I don't want to keep using only 50% of my processor. I am using a desktop computer, not a laptop. Except for the annoying sound the computer works normally. I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP1. Thanks in advance.

Hey there.

My computer just recently make some bleeping noises (three short beeps, then a pause then another three beeps) and a revving noise either coming from the hard drive or DVD drive (was in the other room at the time so I can't pin point) and turned itself off.

I then tried to turn it back on and it started to boot and made the bleeping noises (same three beeps) again (It doesn't come from the speakers, it comes from inside the computer) and then turned itself off.

I then took the side panels off and got rid of all the dust, in particular in the CPU heat sink. It was absolutely covered in dust and the fan could hardly spin because of it. It is working now and has been running for around 20 minutes. I am thinking it may of over heated or something similar but I am unsure. When I it rebooted I got these error messages:

BCCode : 1000000a BCP1 : 00000004 BCP2 : 0000001C BCP3 : 00000001
BCP4 : 804E1466 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 768_1

Any ideas what may have caused the crash?

It is just that I bought a new hard drive and I would like to know if that was at fault.

A:Computer made beeping noise and turned off

From what you have said its possible it overheated (based on you saying it was badly clogged up with dust).

What make/model is your PC? If we can identify the BIOS make/type then you can find out exactly what the error code means.

Also, you can download a program like Speedfan which will monitor system temperatures (CPU etc) so you can see (at least roughly) what they are running at.

Hi HavardW,

Welcome to the 8forums.

You say it might be a software problem, lets find out using a clean boot.
Please open taskmanager and msconfig (windows logo + r > msconfig > enter)
In taskmanager
go to the tab startupdisable everything.
In msconfig
go to the tab services, check 'Hide Microsoft services'disable every other service, click apply, click ok and reboot if asked

If the problem does not occur in a clean boot, enable in taskmanager 1 item and in msconfig 1 service.
Keep doing this until you find the culprit.

Ok here it goes, I think something is going out in my computer. I think that it is either the hard drive or power supply. For about the last week every once in awhile the computer will make a noise like its not getting any power then power again. The best way to describe what is happening is to think of a big main frame computer and when you turn it on you can hear the energy being sucked out of the wires (know what I mean?). So yesterday I turned it off because it usually runs 24/7 and didn't want anything to happen, well tonight I turn it back on and it says that something is corrupt with the registery. Windows 98 was able to fix itself. Yeah i was amazed too. So for now my computer is working but should I back up my hard drive and buy a new one or do you think I should worry about that power supply? Oh and the specs of my computer is "400mhz amd, 128megs ram, 8gig ide drive"

It sounds like a noisy fan to me the best way to check is when it is making the noise find something you can put in the power supply fan to stop it and see if the noise stops, if so change the power supply also take the case off and when it's making the noise look at the cpu fan and see if that is spinning very fast or stuttering

Since last night my computer has been making this really weird sound. Kind of like a revving sound. I'm not sure what it is. I have an eMachines computer and this has never happened to me before. Anyone had this experience before and may know whats up with it?

On a side note: I saw the stickied topic about eMachines PSU's, and yes I think I need a new one. My computer crashes (often), and some mild things, and some people and forums have told me to get a new PSU, so anyone know a good PSU brand to get? I'll probably buy one from TrigerDirect or NewEgg, just need to know a good brand.

The PCs at the school do the revving thing but then stop 10 seconds later.

On the side note a good company PSU would be OCZ, Antec, Thermaltake, and Enermax. Those should do good. Make sure you get them from newegg.com. They are the best site to buy things from.

I am new on here and still figuring out how to navigate the forums, so I apologize if I'm posting a question that has already been asked (also english is not my first language so bare with me haha). I can't find any article/forum that explains my problem so I am posting here hoping to finally finding out what is causing this sound and how to fix it.

The sound happens almost always when I access my second HDD in windows explorer. Sometimes it happens when my PC is working harder than usual (HD streaming for example) and sometimes (not so often) seemingly random or when I am not even using my PC. It is hard to explain but it is a quick high pitched spinning sound followed by what I can only explain as a clicking sound. It is very quick only about 2 seconds I would say. Previously while playing The Sims 4 the same sound happened right before the game always froze/crashed.

I only know a few things here and there about hardware components, just the basics... I have read somewhere about hard drives "spinning down". Does this mean the drive temporarily shuts down and starts back up when you access a file from it? Or what does it mean? Could this be what is the problem? Or is it something else? I don't want to take my PC in if it is a problem I can fix myself, I am pretty good at following instructions to troubleshoot. I have already run tests on both of my hard drives with a program that checks the health of your hard drive and both my disks are still in e... Read more

Ever since i opened up my case and took out my hard drive and slaved it on another computer to transfer the files then reformat it and reinstall it in my computer. I've been hearing this wierd noise in my computer. At first it was just a sort of loud hum i thought maybe i bumped the fan a little so i tilted the case and the sound subsided but as soon as I stand it back up it comes back.. Just earlier today it started to sound like a fly stuck in a windowpane buzzing around.
Now its making this terrible sound its like "ugnh- - - ugnhh - - - Ugnhh" I'm pretty sure its the fan on the processor. When I was reformatting I decided to spray air duster around and i accidentally sprayed the can upside down on the heat sink and some of the liquid came out. That stuff evaporates pretty fast though so I didn't think anything bad would happen, and nothing did. I don't know if this is related or what?

My theory is that the cold *** liquid made the heat sink brittle and the fan is pulling it with the airflow sorta like a kazoo. But i not even sure if its the fan. My computer is working properly and everything. This sound is getting very annoying though.. please help me. Thanks

A:Computer making wining noise?

Okay, the an will make loud noise when a game is being played because it uses your graphics card *more*. If I am correct the sounds you hear are a code telling you what the problem is, the only problem is I dont know how to identify them.

So the sound of the fan is not a problem.

EDIT: Is the whining noise your talking about like a fan spinning, because that does happen if you know what I mean, then it slows down.

A:Solved: Computer keeps making restart noise

I would guess that your power supply isn't giving you consistent power, but that's just a guess. To test it I would plug in a different power supply, if the problems goes away, that was it. If you have a tester power supply, or another comp you can pull one out of, that should work.

my hp 6730 b laptop charger was beeping and eventually stopped working i replaced it with a loaner ..The loaner is a original hp charger but has less power volts are .5 off but the original had 90 watts the loaner has only 65 watts...it charges the bat to 100 percent..although i noticed the lightning bolt led is not staying blue like it was...it goes to amber at 60 percent charge and then blue like itshould somewere working up to full charge then it goes off..it used to stay blue.. i dont leave it plugged in at night..i figure i better not..NOW 3 DAYS LATER MY LAPTOP CRASHED TWICE AND BUZZED... NO SCREEN ...FAN GOING AND LEDS BLINKING...it would not shut down from power off on button....so i umplugged the charger and pulled the batt out...put batt back in and it said windows did nor shut down correctly..hit enter and it rebooted fine....how serious is underpowering a devise...in general i always thought under was ok within reason over was bad....??? im buying the original 90 watt hp block today.....cant risk it did i damage any thing...???

That all depends. If you are not using the laptop while the "under powered" charger is plugged in, the battery will just take longer to charge. BUT, if you are using the laptop while the charger is plugged in, you could very easily do some serious damage to the laptop. The charger is meant to supply a certain amount of voltage at a certain load. If you are drawing more from the charger, more than it is meant to put out, you can fry the charger resulting in a short circuit and subsequently fry your motherboard.

Best thing to do is not use it anymore until you get either the OEM charger or a direct replacement from a company like Targus. Targus USA | Cases, Bags and Accessories for Laptops and Tablets

After you get the new charger, if you are still having problems, you will likely need to bring your laptop to a tech who can bench it and test the MoBo. Hope everything works out for you.

Hi all,

I just recently built a new PC (back in December) and today it made a weird loud grinding/spinning noise. I immediately powered it down, and now it is running OK. There was no burning smell or anything like that. I'm concerned though. It has never done this before, and I'm not sure what component caused it. It kind of sounded like the DVD rom drive, but there was nothing in the drive. The DVD drive does make weird noises when a disc is put in or when it's reading, but I don't know why it would have this time before no disc was inserted. The case (coolmaster centurion) does have two fans built in, one in the front and one in the back. But they are usually quiet.

Specs are:

Mobo: MSI P67A-G43 (B3) P67 ATX LGA1155

CPU: Intel Core i5 2400 Quad Core Processor LGA1155 3.1GHZ Sandy Bridge 6MB

RAM: G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL Ripjaws PC3-12800 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600

Video card: Radeon HD 6950 2GB

HD: Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA3

PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W

Please help.

EDIT: Actually, IIRC I have heard this sound before under a previous configuration. Could it be one of the case fans? I'm surprised because of how loud it was.

Your hard drive could be going bad. Download Crystal Disk Info and have a look.

If you could tell us the make of the hard drive, we could post more tools.

So my desktop keeps making that annoying ding sound that it makes when you connect a new device, but whats strange is that im not connecting anything. Also, if that wasnt all bad enough, every time it makes the noise it causes my mouse to hiccup which is making gaming very difficult. I have run both anti viruses as well as a spyware and maleware killer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also dont know if its related, but when i try to play my game and run by holding both mouse buttons i notice that my charactor stops constantly. Tried updating the driver and removing the mouse to no avail. Could this maybe be a bad connection and the cause of the noise? Thanks in advance!

A:computer keeps making the device connect noise randomly

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Move the USB mouse connector to a different USB port, see if this fixes the issue.

Otherwise, sounds like the USB connector of the mouse is bad.

I just started noticing a constant buzzing/whining noise coming from my computer even when it is turned off. I've tried unplugging everything (speakers, mouse, keyboard, network cable, etc.) but it seems that the only way I can get rid of the noise is to power it off completely. Why is this? And is there anything I can do to fix it? Thanks!

playing audio. audio of any kind. its coming through the detached speakers. do you know what this could be?

the noise is sort of a fast, digital "do do do do do do" & it sort of has a vibrating sound to it.

A:my computer is making this occasional disruptive vibrating noise when

It's interference, do you have a phone nearby your speakers? If so, just move it away a meter or two, happens to everyone.
